Chapter 5: Question and Answer
Athyr was warm. She could feel that she was comforted, but could not remember how she came to feel that way. She could tell she was dreaming and welcomed the oblivion of sleep. Suddenly mists formed in her consciousness and turned from pale white to dark red. Suddenly the feelings in her body went from comfort to arousal. She could feel lips dragging across her skin. The lips seemed to be nowhere and everywhere at once. The gasp she let out seemed to enter the darkness and then magnify. The lips gave way to bodies, two bodies that she could make out, were rubbing against her.
Lips caressed her hips, one tugged lightly on her nipple ring and a husky chuckle teased her ear when she gasped again. Suddenly hands were grasping hers and pulling them above her head. The mists seemed to part and she was able to make out the face of one of her lovers.
Silver eyes looked into amber with adoration; "I love you, my golden eyed goddess."
Athyr tried to fight the love that welled up in her heart at the words were spoken. She knew he loved her. Her heart would not let her deny this. "And I too, love you as well," a voice behind her echoed in her ear. Glancing over her shoulder she looked into the eyes of her green-eyed lover. Athyr knew that this would never be and with a thought her lovers were gone and the swirling red mists were replaced by dank gray ones.
And at Athyr's feet lay her two lovers, her warrior form standing over them with their blood on her hands. Eyes that she knew so well looked up at her, anguish that she knew filled her heart and tears flowed freely from her eyes.
"You know what we are," her other form spoke. "This is our future, our past, and our present. You must not give in to this self Athyr. The fate of the world rests in your heart. Remember who you are. You are mother, nurturer, lover and sin. To love them is to doom them, so it has been and so it will be."
The form vanished before Athyr could ask any questions of it. And she could hear other voices in her subconscious.
"I think we should wake her up and find out who she is," one voice said angrily.
"Look at her, she's bruised and battered, and she looks exhausted. Why don't we just let her sleep? We can question her to your heart's content, Draco, when she wakes up," another voice answered him.
"She looks just like that woman that Sirius described from his time on that Egyptian island. I bet it is her. Sirius said that she had been around 13 or 14 when he had been there and that was only a few years ago. The years seem to match up," the angry voice continued to protest.
Athyr struggled to pull herself into complete wakefulness and was able to open her eyes and stare at the two young men arguing over her. She felt emotions well up in her heart as she remembered a similar situation from her past. These two always seem to be arguing over me, her subconscious chuckled.
"My name is Athyr," she said softly, startling Harry and Draco. Boy wizards stared down at her as she struggled to sit up and immediately placed a hand under a side of her shoulder and aided her in the process.
"The island is Dendera," Athyr continued as she took in her surroundings. She appeared to be in a living area of some sort. There were several comfy couches and a fire blazed in a hearth to the right of her. She noticed that there were two other gentlemen sitting on the floor as well. With widened eyes she launched herself out of the arms of Harry and Draco and into Sirius Black.
"Dog Star," she cried out placing both hands on the cheeks of Sirius. Turning blue eyes to gaze into amber she murmured, "it is you. I knew I would see you again."
"How do you know who I am?" Sirius asked placing his hands over hers. He gently drew them down and away. "You only ever saw me in my animangus form."
Giggling as if she were privy (and was) to information that Sirius wasn't she replied, "You appeared in your animangus form, but I saw you in your mortal form. I see all animangi in their mortal form. It comes from my affinity with animals. All creatures are revealed to me." Taking a deep breath Athyr stood and moved around the room. Paying very little attention to the men whose day she had interrupted she picked up the little nicnacs that lay on the tables. She took particular delight in the moving photographs that smiled and waved at her when she picked them up. Harry even nudged Draco and pointed at her when she began waving back at the picture of Hermione and Ron that she had picked up.
"Athyr," Sirius began standing. "Don't get me wrong, it's wonderful to see you again, but what are you doing here?"
With this the smile that has graced Athyr's face fell before she appeared to straighten her spine and turned to Sirius with a resolved face.
"I have a story to tell you," Athyr began and took a seat on the floor between Harry and Draco.
Taking another deep breath Athyr launched into her story.
"It is true what they say about Egypt being the seat of all magic. However, as the magic made its way across the world it has changed," with a gesture Athyr muttered a small spell and a small world appeared in the palm of her hand. All four men stared amazed at her ability to perform magic without a wand. "With its travels magic has acquired many things, wands for example," she continued and a wand took the place of the world in her palm. "In Egypt, old gods and goddesses have had to adapt. Moving into the magical world and doing what they will with their life. But chaos is always there. Threatening the boundaries of their happiness. The island is one such thing. Your Voldemort prevented me from moving on into the magical world."
"What do you mean, our Voldemort?" Draco asked.
"Voldemort is yours, because of the simple fact that he is a wand user. He wished to rule the world. Something that was far above and beyond him. But because he had tampered in such dark magics he had changed himself into something so dark that my entering the magical realm as expected would have provided him with the opportunity to truly rule over and destroy the world. Unfortunately, he sought another outlet to provide him with that power," she stared intently at Harry.
"Me?" Harry questioned.
"Yes, you Harry. You are very rare. As are you Draco," Athyr cast her amber gaze on the blond. "You are children of the original descendents of my sect in Egypt," she smiled and when Sirius and Remus both raised an eyebrow she laughed reading the question in their eyes. "I see that your godfather and his companion doubt that such a fair complexioned individual could have come out of Egypt. Allow me to explain. Your two family lines where originally from Egypt with time and the intermingling with other magical families you have changed much, but one thing has remained the same," she stared intently at Draco as if willing him to know what it was.
"I think your Harry can tell you what it is," Athyr glanced over at Harry.
"His eyes. It has to be his eyes," Harry murmured.
"Yes. Yours too. The peoples of Egypt are varied and the eye color of you two marked you from birth as my original consorts."
"Consorts," Draco blanched.
"Would it have been such a bad thing?" Athyr raised a brow. "But I digress. Let me explain to you who I am. I am the original descendent of Hathor. Actually, a better term would be incarnation. I am Hathor and she is me. She is my past, present and future self. In the beginnings of magic there were gods and goddesses. I was and am goddess supreme. Mother of all deities. Over time there have been several names for me, "Eye of the Universe" was one. During my first lifetime, I was many things to the people of Egypt. I was protector of women and sovereign of imeniment, song and goddess of fertility. However," a coldness seeped into Athyr's golden gaze, "there is my other self. That once invoked is hard and often impossible to turn back."
Athyr rose from her seat between the Gryffindor and the Slytherin. She wandered around the room, this time not taking notice of the things she appeared more introspective. "Ra, or Re as he is known to me, the sun god grew angry with man, and in due course he called upon the Eye of the Universe to smite man from its existence. My other self, Sekhmet, was called upon and I fell upon mankind and devoured them. Ra took pity on mankind and attempted to call me back, but it was too late. I had tasted mortal flesh," Athyr's eyes seemed to glow as she turned to face the four men seated on the floor. "I would not come back. He sent the two I loved most to stop me thinking that surely I would not devour my beloved," Athyr let her eyes rest on both Harry and Draco before she continued, "unfortunately, he was wrong and I devoured them both." Tears welled up in her eyes, but Athyr forced herself to continue. "After realizing what I had done I came to myself and cried and my anguish made its way over the land. Blood ran from my eyes with the force of love that I had killed." The tears flowed freely now. "I could no longer fathom what I had become. I cast myself into mortal form, but sent with it my memories. Through each lifetime I mourned for the loss of my two loves until I met them again. I had resolved myself to never loving them again, but they would not listen," she smiled at the fond memories that assailed her.
"With each incarnation my powers returned until I was once again the embodiment of the goddess Hathor. I returned to nurturing and providing for my disciples in Egypt. I was content with my existence. I had allowed myself to be won again by my loves and I had repented for the mistakes of my past or so I thought," a weary hand rubbed over her furrowed brow. "Ra had also returned and as before he called upon me to smite mankind. I refused and in his anger he killed my loves, taking them from me again."
"This time Ra is determined to have from me what he has wanted all along, my total obedience, he again craves to destroy mankind and wishes for me to do this. But Ra has grown weaker in his incarnations where I have grown stronger and he no longer has the ability to control me because of the strength of my will. However, others who are not so strong are open to his control. He is fast gaining followers for a return to the old ways. In fact Voldemort was one of them. Had Voldemort succeeded in defeating the light he would have attained enough power to bring me to my knees," Athyr sighed and continued, "However I was determined to be in control of my destiny and I decided to return to Dendera around which I placed many wards. I also sealed off my heart," again Athyr gazed at Harry and Draco. "Unfortunately, even my island proved to not be safe enough."
"The reason I ended up here is because Ra has been gaining power and was able to send abominations to my island and kill everyone there. I was only able to escape with the sacrifice of my mother, Nut. However, before I stepped into the fire I did destroy the manticore and being that had been marked with the Eye of Horus, but I can not return there. The time is drawing near when I will have to face Ra and my other self if it comes to that. Ra will stop at nothing, not killing, not bringing down the heavens themselves in order to reclaim his place and bring me to heel," she finished with a sarcastic laugh. "I am NOT a dog, present company excluded of course," Athyr added with a smile. Sirius and Remus nodded their acceptance.
"Because Ra has forced me from my island he is capable of coming after me. But, for the moment he has no idea where I am. And it is time that I returned to the world. I must face my fears and finally defeat Ra. I must seek my happiness in this world and make amends for past mistakes," Athyr finally wound down and returned to her seat on the floor.
"That's some story, Athyr," Sirius said after taking several minutes to digest everything. "This question may sound totally out of context, but how old are you?"
"In this body or total with all my incarnations?" Athyr asked back.
"In that body?"
"I'm sixteen," she began, "and I will soon be seventeen, but total I am over 5000 years old and let me tell you I've seen quite a bit of this world. It's been a long time since I've been off the island. In this lifetime I should have gone to Hogwarts at the age 11, but things being as they were it would have been too dangerous for me to leave the island, but I did get to have contact with those from Hogwarts. I met the founders of Hogwarts in one of my incarnations. And then I was able to meet you Sirius," Athyr continued. "You smelled of Hogwarts and I wished to go there so much. So meeting you and taking care of you let me have part of that experience no matter how little." A yawn escaped Athyr and she covered her mouth mumbling, "Excuse me."
"You must have seen so much in your lifetimes," Remus replied in awe. "The things you've had the opportunity to see and do."
"Yes, but now I really would just like the opportunity to just be a regular teenaged girl. I know that Ra is there and I will have to face him in time, but right now I just want to try and have a regular life."
"Well, you picked the wrong household to land in, because between Golden Boy here, and a former murderer," Draco began, but cursed as Harry slapped him on the head, "ah, exonerated murderer," he corrected, "the son of a supposed Death Eater and a werewolf, you're hardly gonna be able to hide from the public eye," he deadpanned.
"I do not need to hide. I have left Dendera and now I will enter the magical world. Ra will try to get to me, but I will not let him harm me or mine," the power behind the word mine left all in the room feeling as if she meant more than the people that had been killed on Dendera. "And after the blow that I've just dealt him he will be hard pressed to come after me again. I have gained time, gentlemen and with that I'm finally going to do what I want."
AN: Whew!!! This chapter was really taxing to write. Let me know what you think. Have I given you enough explanation? Now, that we've revealed my chara and we've introduced her to the duos, where to go from here. . .well, there's always Diagon Alley.
