"Many of the new face you see and some that many of you already know will be taking part in this year's Gathering." Dumbledore announced cheerfully.
Yes; Draco was sure the world wanted him to suffer.
"Tomorrow the Gathering will be explained in full by a veela representative then the introduction of the veela taking part in the Gathering will be held." Dumbledore finished then turned back to the main table to discuss his exciting news with the Professors.
Within moments the hall was filled with conversations about the Headmaster's announcement.
Draco stood signaling Blaise to do the same, his face void of any emotion he might have been feeling; he then turned to the first years quickly introducing Blaise and himself as their Prefects and ordered them to get their things together and follow him to the Slytherin common room.

Two tables down Harry Potter got up to leave; deciding he had enough to deal with at the moment, not to mention the disaster which was Triwizard Tournament being the last event Hogwarts had the great privilege to host. He was still trying to get over that traumatic experience and wasn't about to allow himself to be pulled into another.
Lucky for him Ron and Hermione had been dragged into a conversation about Dumbledore's news and didn't notice him make his way down the narrow space between the tables and out the main doors.
But the owner of a light blue pair of eyes had noticed and had discreetly got up and followed after him.

Draco breath a quiet sigh of relief once he was out of the Great Hall and in the dimly lit corridor; the pounding in his head had slightly subsided leaving him with the pulling feeling in the pit of his stomach which had been lingering since the hike earlier that day.
Unfortunately for the Slytherin prince his moment of relief was short lived as his headache came back like a hammer knocking him in the back of the head. He looked up and noticed that Blaise seemed to be perfectly fine and was staring at him worriedly along with the group of Slytherin first years.
Just when he thought his current situation couldn't get worse, someone came out of the Great Hall and ran into him; causing his whole body to shiver with a sensation Draco had never felt before.
The blond cursed under his breath and fought the urge to fall to the ground when he turned and noticed who it was that ran into him. Draco turned and glared at a surprised Harry Potter who had stumbled back into the large doors of the Great Hall.
The Gryffindor quickly recovered and fixed Draco with an equally hard glare. "Move Malfoy, I don't feel like dealing with you tonight."
At that moment Draco would have liked nothing more than to comply... but he was Draco Malfoy and it was Harry Potter who had asked... so he did what he was expected to do. Draco with much effort ignored the stabbing pain in his head, his stomach which was now doing flips and forced a smirk on his face.
"Well that's too bad Potty, since you're the one who ran into me." The Slytherin prince noticed Potter's hands tighten to fists at this sides; and if six years of history was anything to go by, that meant if Draco pushed any further… and he would… this confrontation was about to turn into a fist fight.
"Just move out of the bloody way Malfoy!" Potter's voice was just below a shout as he took a step toward his blond nemeses.
Draco's heart began to race; any pain he had been feeling was drowned out by the pounding of his heart. Usually in these situations he would feel a similar sensation; a jolt of adrenaline, but for some reason beyond his comprehension Draco felt extremely excited and anxious to fight Potter… to show the Gryffindor that he was the stronger one.
He was so consumed by these new urges that the blond didn't notice the fist flying toward his face until it made contact with his nose.
Harry watched with satisfaction as Malfoy stumbled backwards clutching his bloody nose in pain. 'Stupid git; he got what he deserves he should have backed off when I told him to… he's not worthy...'
Harry had less than a moment to question why he would think 'not worthy' before he was tackled ruffle to the ground. He gasped in pain as his arms were forcefully pulled up and held down by his wrist above his head.
He opened his eyes to give Malfoy a death glare and to tell the bastard to get the hell off of him, but stopped when he noticed how labored the Slytherin's breathing had become.
The blond was leaning over him; his entire weight pinning Harry beneath him. His head almost touching Harry's collar bone making the Gryffindor feel like he was slowly suffocating.
"Get off Malfoy." The brunet barely got out as he weakly squirmed against the body on top of him.
This only caused Draco to emit a low warning growl in the back of his throat; it was this sound that knocked the feeling of panic into Harry. He began to thrash with all his strength; the only thought flashing through his mind was 'I have to get away!'
Realizing it wasn't working, Harry dug his nails into Malfoy's hands. The blond hissed in pain and slightly loosened his grip on his captive's wrist.
Harry took this small opening; using all his strength he throw Malfoy off of him then quickly scrambled to his feet in the opposite direction. Which ironically enough was into the group of startled Slytherin first years.
He turned, his eyes frantically scanning the hall and landing on Malfoy who was standing a few feet away; eyes clouded over almost completely sliver. The panic Harry had felt before was now mixed with rage as he starred at the crazed Slytherin.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" He asked; narrowing his eyes at Malfoy who had taken a step toward him, causing Harry to take a step back, bumping into a body which felt way to tall and muscular to be a first year.
He was about to take an quick glance back to see who it was, when Malfoy charged forward; his usual emotionless features were contorted with rage.
The first thought to pop into Harry's mind was that Malfoy was about to tackle him again, he readied himself refusing to be pinned down. But the impact never came; instead Harry felt a rush of power fly past him taking with it the body he had been leaning against.
The Gryffindor turned in time to see Blaise Zabini block Malfoy from pounding his face into the ground.
The crowd of first years, who were too frightened to care, ran behind Harry; who was starring dumbfounded at the two boys fighting on the ground.
It was only when Zabini didn't react fast enough and Malfoy punched him on the side of his stomach, that the person who had been watching from the shadows stepped forward.
Harry watched in surprise as their new Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor came out of nowhere, her wand pointed at the two boys on the ground; the words of an incantation spilling forth from her lips too fast for Harry to make out.
But Harry being the skilled seeker he was, did see the blast of magic shoot from the professor's wand into the oval pendent hanging from the necklaces around the boys necks.
Malfoy who was about to knock a still recovering Zabini in the face, stopped just short of making contact with the other boy's nose.
The Slytherin looked down into the very pissed off face of his best friend and quickly pieced together what must have led him to his current situation. For the second time that night Draco was sure the world was paying him back for every bad thing he had done over the years.
Blaise noticing the familiar look of 'my world is coming to an end' on Draco's face quickly decided to save his anger for later. "Get off Draco." He said quietly so only his blond friend could her him.
The blond complied and got off the other Slytherin as gracefully as the position would allow, ignoring the frightened looks he was receiving from the first years from his house.
Draco straightened himself refusing to make eye contact with the Professor standing a short distance away and in doing so his eyes inadvertently locked with a pair of forest green ones.
Harry stood across from him the Slytherin, first years still clinging to his robes like they would their mother's skirt. For the first time Draco took notice of how Harry's appearance had changed, his face had softened his eye lashes had grown longer and fuller. And his dark black hair had also grown longer and now cascaded down his head stopping just short of the bottom of his chin, giving him an ethereal look.
Draco unknowingly shifted his gaze from Harry's eyes to further down the other boy's slender… slightly curved… body.
'Since when did Potter have curves?' He made a mental note as his eyes continued to travel.
When Harry noticed where the blonde's eyes had strayed a familiar intense wave of anger washed over him, he was about to tell the bloody Slytherin to 'go sod himself' when his two best friends came busting out of the main hall nearly hitting him along with the first years clinging to him.
Both were looking at him like he had somehow brought Voldermort back to life and was now joining the evil git in taking control of the world. Harry gave a half smile, hoping Hermione's lecture would not be too harsh, fortunately for him Professor Median once again came to his rescue.
"Miss Granger and Mr. Weasley I presume, would either one of you care to explain to me why the two Gryffindor prefects are not doing one of their most important duties?" The young professor stepped forward blocking Harry from his two very confused friends.
Ron opened his mouth and was about to mouth off when Hermione grabbed his arm squeezing it in warning. "Harry wasn't feeling well earlier professor; we wanted to make sure he was o-"
"Miss Granger you'll find I'm not one to tolerate excuse when it comes to ones responsibilities. Headmaster Dumbledore has entrusted you two with the duty of not only helping the first year students learn what they need to know about Hogwarts and its classes but also with the duty of setting a good example for your lower classmates. With that said; Miss Granger, Mr. Weasley, am I to be assured that I will not have to remind you of your responsibilities in future situations?" Professor Median finished by crossing her arms in front of her chest, waiting for their answer.
Harry watched as Hermione's expression changed from shock to watery eyed, he appreciated the professor getting him out of one of one of Hermione's lecture, but he hated to see one of his best friends upset.
It had always been that way; Harry had this strong instinct to protect the few people he held dear to his heart. This instinct however didn't go over well with the people he choose to protect, mostly because he was constantly throwing himself in harm's way to protect them and barley making it back to them alive. But it couldn't be helped, he was a Gryffindor after all and they were known for their courage… well most of them were anyways.
He opened his mouth ready to spout something out to redirect the professor's harsh words to him, when his attention was once again drawn back to a pair of steel grey eyes, Harry narrowed his eyes at Malfoy thinking the blond Slytherin git must have thought of a way to hex him by using his mind.
Then remembered he needed to draw Professor Median's wrath to him, Harry smiled as he slowly reaching for his wand, musing that a bouncing ferret should do the trick. He got his wand about half way out of his pocket when the doors to the Great Hall were pushed open and out marched a group of Gryffindor first years lead by no other then Neville Longbottom.
"There you are Harry." Neville smiled as he walked up to Harry stopping when he was about arms length away. When Harry only looked at him dazed and confused, Neville continued. "The first years were all so nervous to be sorted into the same house as the great Harry Potter Savior of the Wizarding World, so Dumbledore decided it would be a good idea if they met you." Neville side stepped giving Harry a full view of the first year Gryffindors; many of whom were looking nervously away.
Harry tucked his wand back into his pocket and smiled softly at the younger students, remembering how intimated he had been his first day at Hogwarts. "Hi; I'm Harry. If there's anything you need help with please don't hesitate to ask. I know this place can be very disorienting at times."
He was glad when a few of the braver students looked up at him and nodded; when he shifted to straighten up he felt extra weight clinging to his school robes. Harry looked down into twelve or more sets of eyes staring back up at him, his eyes drifted to the Slytherin emblem on their robes.
He raised an eyebrow questioningly at them allowing them to continue to cling to him; he then turned to Blaise Ziniba; who was in the process of straightening his robes.
Blaise looked up, then quickly tired to smoother the snicker at the site that greeted him. Potter was staring at him; one eyebrow raised in confusion, as the new Slytherin first years clutched to the Gryffindor's robes while starring nervously at Draco.
He cleared his throat as he stepped forward. "Come on now, let go of him. Your Slytherins now start acting like it." Blaise berated the little snakes, smiling approvingly when they all released Potter and quickly walked over to him.
Next he turned to Draco and sighed when he noticed his friend still eyeing Potter. He knew that Draco's aggression would only get worse until he claimed a mate but he had hoped it would be directed at the other dominates and not Potter. Blaise quickly decided that he needed to sit down and have a talk with Potter and his friends concerning Draco; they had no idea what a little aggression on their part could trigger in Draco.
But for now the best plan of action was to get his friend and the first years away from the Golden Trio. "Come on Dray, we still have to assign their rooms, explain all the rules of the house and pass out the class schedules." Blaise turned walking toward the direction of the stairs, the first years at his heels.
Draco pulled his eyes way from Potter, as he heard the last bit of Blaise sentence, just in time to see the last of their first years turn the corner. He scowled at being left behind, forgetting what he had been previously doing he walked briskly after them.
Harry watched Malfoy leave, the tension leaving his body once the platinum blond was out of site.
"Mr. Potter?" A woman's voice caught his attention; he turned to lock eyes with the icy blues of Professors Median. "I'd like to have a word with you, while Miss Granger, Mr. Weasley and Longbottom escort their first years to your tower.
Harry looked nervously at the professor, it was only his first day back and Malfoy had already managed to get him in trouble. He took a deep breath then started to nod his understanding, when the groups for Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw emerged from the Great Hall, followed by a sour looking Sevours Snape.
The Potions Professor motioned for the two groups of students to get going, then walked up to Potter and Median.
"Median, the Headmaster wishes to speak to you about tomorrow's event… now." Snape ordered the dark haired woman, completely ignoring Harry's presence.
Upon seeing Snape, the new Professor's expression turned from stony serious to a playful smile, much to the irritation of the already agitated Potions Professor.
"Well since you asked me so nicely Sev…" Median winked at her fellow professor, stepping forward to take hold of the taller man's arm. "It will give us some alone time to discuss what you promised to explain earlier." She tightened her grip when the brooding man tried to pull away.
At that moment Severus Snape seriously considered hexing the Headmaster for putting him in charge of retrieving Median. At his failed attempt to escape the woman's grasp, he glared straight forward allowing himself to be pulled toward Dumbledore's office.
Harry watched as the two professors walked away in the direction of the Headmaster's office, thanking Merlin for… he never thought he'd be thinking this… Severus Snape.
He turned and smiled at the group of Gryffindor's watching him, his fatigue from earlier starting to set back in. So he was relieved when Neville stepped forward saying he'd walk to the common room with Harry so Hermione and Ron could finish up with the first years.
Hermione and Ron looked unsure for a moment, before Ron spoke. "Make sure he goes straight to bed Nev, will be there as soon as were done."
