Stephanie was shaky, hoping that it was just the fact that the two probably weren’t from around there. Her parents, after all, didn’t have the British accent, much less any, that so many others did. Maybe he was just talking to her to tell her how it was at Hogwarts? At least being scolded was better than trying to hide something or defend herself if he already knew.
“Miss Kirchner…” the Professor stopped in front of a statue, looking over at her he motioned her to get in, when she did he said the password – “Lemon Sherbet.”
She ‘eeped’ as the statue began to twist around, steps being lifted out of the ground, Snape calmly climbing up on one as she frowned. So she was going to the Headmaster, he was freaky – to a degree – seriously; he knew everything… hopefully not everything about her. As the stairs came to a stop, Stephanie walked off and went towards the door, but stopped shy, looking back at Snape.
“Go in,” Snape walked forward towards her as she then pushed the door open, he followed close behind, brushing barely against her as he went past and stood next to Dumbledore.
In her head she was playing music, she tended to remember certain songs and play them out in her mind when she wanted to cover up an awkward silence. Right now what was going through her head was Life in Mono by Mono. Granted the songs weren’t always calming, but it was better than the silence. Her eyes settled on nothing in particular as she stared forward.
“…so you see our issue Miss Kirchner,” her head snapped – turned towards Dumbledore she looked severely confused. Issue?
“I didn’t hear a thing you said before the ‘issue’ thing, Headmaster.” Stephanie wasn’t embarrassed to admit her fault as both hands settled on her hips. Snape gave an irritated look at her causing her to shrink back at the intensity, but quickly turn her attention back to Dumbledore.
“Well, I will repeat myself, but only once,” Dumbledore started. “I can call you Stephanie, can’t I?” She only gave a nod to his question as he then continued, “Stephanie – You are from the US along with Miss Marino. You’ve grown up amongst muggles as a pure-blood. I am here to warn you not to boast about your past life, much less about muggles – including with the house you’ve been placed into.” Dumbledore’s voice never betrayed warning as he walked over and placed his hand on her shoulder.
“Now, Stephanie – Professor Snape here is your guardian while you’re here. I hold no prejudices against muggles, but since you were raised in Missouri along with Miss Marino – you probably do not know what is going on over here. This is to protect you,” the Headmasters hand squeezed down lightly – in reassurance on her shoulder. “There is a war going on over here as of now. Your parents did their years at Hogwarts and then moved away – only to come back and let their daughter experience the same learning experience as they had. You are more familiar with the muggle world than the wizarding world.”
“So, basically, I’m going to be on constant watch?” Her lips curled down in sadness, she didn’t want to feel like she was in prison.
“No, Stephanie – dear. Professor Snape is just here to help you; he is your best source to go to for any issues. I thought you would be more comfortable going to your own head-of-house.” Dumbledore admitted as his hands were now at his sides, though he sounded like he was holding back information. “Though, a word of caution – Do not go too far into the darkness to greet the light. Even with the best intentions, we can tend to pass our limits and destroy ourselves.”
Snape looked down at her, a quizzical look momentarily gracing his features before vanishing. So he knows what I intend to do. She thought and gave a slight nod – she had to open up, to prove she was ready for what she intended to do. “I understand, Sir. Though, I must admit. There is more to me than anyone would ever expect. I also hope using any muggle items won’t get me in trouble,” She smiled innocently.
“Of course it will not get you in trouble. Though, you would do best to heed my warning as best as possible,” Dumbledore moved closer and placed a hand on her back before pushing her slowly towards the statue that had gotten her up – talking calmly to her, in a slight whisper so Snape couldn’t hear probably, “I know what you are, Stephanie. You should read that book your father gave to you, you are quite a value to us – please do not be too reckless. Also, you are our best chance at saving some of the darkness and bringing it into the light.”
“You say too many things in weird ways, why don’t you just outright say it.” She sighed softly as she stopped. “I’m not stupid, I know exactly what you’re saying, but making me decode – it’s annoying,” she mumbled the last part as he gave a soft chuckle and patted her head like she was a small child.
“Not all the answers should come so easily. Now it’s time to go back to your dorms and rest, Professor Snape will take you,” Dumbledore pulled back from the girl and went back to his desk, but not before saying something else, “Stephanie – It was a pleasure meeting you. I believe you will be able to change many hearts, good luck with your studies and good night.”
“Good night, Sir.” She was then quickly ushered out by Professor Snape. Goodness he’s so impatient, then again I feel bad for taking up his time.
“Miss Kirchner, pay attention. We’ll start from the Great Hall,” Snape was walking quickly forward as she just watched – yet began walking, keeping a slight distance behind him. “Now pay attention,” he repeated himself as they walked from the great hall and took a few hallways.
“Ugh… dungeons… down in the depths… it’ll be closed… and dark,” she was mumbling to herself. She liked the dark, but she also liked open spaces – dungeon just seemed like prison. She was hoping it’d be a nice place, at least nicer then what the name implied – whenever she thought of the name ‘chains’ and ‘bars’ came into mind.
Snape glanced back at her from time to time, yet she didn’t notice much. He could hear her mutterings and gave a slight snicker while he thought, Well she’s in the wrong house for windows and freedom. He stopped, letting his eyes ghost over her small form – taking her in. Stephanie was short, standing only about 4’5” – she wouldn’t grow much more if she already had her growth spurt. Her hair just barely passed her shoulders, chocolate brown – but her eyes, they were strange. He doubt that she noticed too often, they changed colors with moods and looked very much cat-like.
“You seem angry Miss Kirchner,” he stopped.
She looked up at him, her eyes immediately changing to a red color. “Why am I being accused of being angry? Now… I’m angry,” she muttered the last two words and glanced away.
So he was right, the colors were mood induced, maybe if she knew her eyes were that way – she’d be able to change them at will. Though, it was strange – she wasn’t a Metamorphmagus – was she? “Miss Kirchner are you a Metamorphmagus?”
“A… what?” She looked at him utterly confused, eyes flickering between every color imaginable – not able to focus on one in the confusion.
“Obviously not… I merely ask because of your eyes. I’m pretty sure you’ve seen them cat-like and they change colors – apparently to your mood so far.” He crossed his arms; if she was a Metamorphmagus then she was a half-blood, not pure-blood. Though she wasn’t and from his knowledge the Kirchner family only had one oddity about them that wizards had completely forgotten pretty much, but he had done some snooping and grabbed her book – reading it. Granted he didn’t want to, Dumbledore had insisted he do so. So it was confirmed, “So you actually are a goddess wizard?”
“Cat-like, change color, and… a what?” Stephanie was so severely confused.
“You didn’t read your bo — ” Snape cut himself off. Clearing his throat he shakily placed a hand on her shoulder and spoke to her, “I owe you no explanation other then I read what you are and you need to read up on it, now. When you turn twelve you will thank your parents, that is when everything will become clear, now go to bed Miss Kirchner.” Snape pushed her off towards a door, “The password is pure-blood,” the painting opened the door and she walked in, nodding towards the Professor.
“Can’t… blame him for going through my things, even though I can’t help but be pissy – Holy crap!” Stephanie jumped as Malfoy popped up out of the shadows – pinning her to the wall. “What the hell are you doing Malfoy? You scared me!”
“I take it you didn’t read the parchment?” He chuckled, grabbing right back into her robes and pulling it out to show her. Letting her read it – the basic message was ‘I’ll be waiting’ – “Also, interesting eyes – very… sexy.” Malfoy’s trademark smirk graced his features and moved in closer – their lips centimeters away.
What is going on here… why is Malfoy like this… what does he know…
