“Albus, I want to go to the library. Won’t you come with me sweetheart?” Emily asked fluttering her eyelashes.
“Sure. Just give me a second and I’ll ask if Scorpius if he wants to go to.” Albus replied knowing that when Emily wanted to go to the library it just meant she wanted a private place to make-out. In the three months that they had been together Albus had learned a great deal about Emily. He learned about her dreams to become a writer, how much she hated peas, why she likes ballet flats over baby doll shoes, how often she gets her hair cut… but most importantly he learned that if he pretended hard enough she could transform into his personal Scorpius, at least until he opened his eyes. It was working well so far though, Scorpius had not let on to any possible suspicions. When Albus was not with Emily and Scorpius was not off flying with David, the two best friends were together just like before. Before when Albus had not been in love with his best mate and things were simple.
“Really? Do we have to take him with us everywhere we go?” She asked becoming annoyed. “Can’t he just go off with David like he usually does when we are together? Besides it has been a week since we have been alone together.” She added with a mischievous smile.
“Emily, he is my best friend, I told you that before.” He replied.
“Well I’m your girlfriend! Does that not mean anything to you? Or perhaps you should be Scorpius’ boyfriend! You seem to care about him so much!” She began to rant.
“Emily! Don’t say stuff like that!” He said angrily grabbing both of her wrists and holding them tightly. “Unless you don’t want me to be your boyfriend anymore? ”
“All I was trying to say was you care about him a lot…” She said beginning to cry.
“Well yeah I care about him! We have been friends since our first day, how could I not!” He shouted at her. “But I’m not gay! That’s just… just sick!”
Suddenly a pile of books dropped to the left of where the couple was standing. Their owner had fled the room a microsecond after slamming the door to the dorm behind them. Albus uncertain of whom had dropped the books walked over to the pile. Once he arrived his fears were confirmed. Scorpius had just witnessed him lose his temper with Emily.
“Are you happy now?” Emily said with a mix of anger and sadness. “He finally got to see what a horrible person you are.” Albus released her wrist and started off after Scorpius. “Albus! Wait! Where are you going?” He ignored her and ran out the door. By the time he made it into the common room however Scorpius was nowhere to be found.

Scorpius Malfoy sat alone in the stands of the Quidditch pitch. He had forgotten his coat again and was freezing in the cold December weather. But nothing seemed to matter except the words he had heard Albus speak. They rang loudly in his head “I’m not gay! That’s just…just sick!”. Tears ran down his delicate cheeks and disappeared into the thin fabric of his jeans. Before he had a small amount of hope that Albus would accept him as he was, but now that hope had been taken away forever.
“I saw you run out of the castle.” said a voice from behind him, “I thought I would find you here.” Scorpius turned around to discover that Rose Weasly had followed him to the Quidditch pitch. “Scorpius what’s been going on with you lately?” she asked removing her cloak and placing it around his shoulders, “You are always upset when I see you alone. That creep David is not getting to you is he? All the girls fancy him, but I think inside he is a horrible person.”
“No, we are just friends!” Scorpius exclaimed.
“Scorpius calm down. I did not say you were anything more than friends.” She said wrapping her arms around him. “But if its not him what is it?”
Scorpius looked at Rose for a few seconds. Her face, so beautifully framed with red hair, was covered with worry for him. “Its Albus…”
“Oh, let me guess, he is blowing you off for Emily?” She said with a small hit of disgust. “Well join the club. He has barely said anything to me in the three weeks he has been dating that… banshee.” She added. Scorpius had a feeling that “Banshee” may have been roses attempt to use a less offensive word than she really wanted to.
“Yeah. That is it Rose.” He lied with a slight smile. “I can’t stand that girl.”
Rose let out a short laugh. “Well, look on the bright side,” she said returning the smile, “at least by the time the holiday is over he will probably be sick of her.”
“Why’s that?” He asked.
“Because Princess Emily is spending the holidays at our house. Lucky me…” She replied.
“So Albus is not staying for Christmas?” he asked, uncertain whether it was a good or bad thing.
“No, we are all going home this year.” She answered. “I don’t understand why he never invited you. James is the only one who has issues with you. Aunt Ginny and Uncle Harry know you have been friends for years now…”
“Oh well.” Scorpius interjected, trying to act like he did not care. “At least I won’t have to be around Emily more than I have to.” Rose laughed again.
“Let’s go inside. It’s almost time for dinner.”
As he ate dinner with Rose at the Gryffindor table, he tried not to think about spending the entire break at Hogwarts alone.
