Chapter Five
Warnings: From here on out, this story is going to get fairly graphic. At some point in time, Willow is going to either talk about or relive thru flashbacks her rape. Sex is a given, as these are adults and pubescent teenagers, i.e., horny bastards. I have always written down what the character in my head told me and sometimes it’s rough. I try to stay with cannon as much as possible, but honestly, some of what happen to these characters pissed me off. So, my version of people like Severus is quite different from JKR’s, even though I love him in cannon, I can’t see him like she did. Also, as she was writing a children’s novel, people like Ron, Draco, and Harry were virtually sexless beings. I see a lot more action going on behind the scenes; as in, they aren’t near as vanilla as cannon makes them.
To my questioner about why Snape is exempt: It’s one of two reasons and he hasn’t revealed it to me yet. He does have to make his mind up though, as it is only a chapter or two away from unfolding. But either way, he isn’t the sexless, pining creature JKR wrote about. Severus defiantly knows what it’s all about.
And, now, back to our story.
…..
Several days had passes since bringing Willow to Number 12 Grimmauld Place and no one had yet to see her. Molly had kept her in an upstairs bedroom and was personally attending to her needs. Professor Snape had been around a lot more than usual overseeing the use of many different medicines and complex spells. For the most part, the occupants of the home were told, the newest member of the house was sedated. Molly announced some sort of update each day, and today’s was somewhat disturbing in nature. Madame Pomfrey was to travel to the home, to perform a series of spells making certain the girl was not pregnant and if she was, terminate the child. This particular news had been debated among several individuals of the house. Bill Weasley finally won.
“No woman deserves to give birth to a child she cannot even name a father to!” he roared. “She didn’t ask for this, she didn’t consent to this and she damn certainly shouldn’t have to face a reminder each and every day!”
His voice was so loud the light fixtures shook in the dining room. Arthur had never seen his son so upset; “Bill, how do we take the life of an infant she doesn’t even know about?” he questioned.
“I knew her in school; she was…a friend. She wouldn’t want this.” Bill whispered as he scrubbed his hand down his face. “Just, trust me. She wouldn’t want to keep a baby that didn’t derive from a loving relationship.”
“And the two of you spoke often about this, did you?” Snape hissed. “In between all the snogging the two of you were caught in, you spoke at length about what she would want if she was someday taken by force?”
“No,” replied Bill. “But we did talk about family. And children someday. I wanted a big family. She didn’t. She talked about how she wasn’t even sure if kids were right for her, with her…magic. She thought her parent’s decision to have her was premature and she wasn’t certain she wanted to pass on her mother’s powers.
“What in the hell does it matter to you anyhow, Snape? You know her best of everyone. Certainly, you of all people would not think it right for her to endure more pain and humiliation from this. Tell me, Snape, were the rumors true? Were you fucking your student? The two of you spent an awful lot of time together?”
No sooner were the words of out Bill’s mouth that he was thrown across the room and pinned against a wall by what only could be described as the Death Eater in Snape. He had Bill by the throat, cutting off his air supply. Snape could hear the bustle of people behind him, shouting to put Bill down, but he was unconcerned and unmoved by the outpouring of emotions fellow Order members were giving off.
“How dare you accuse me of wronging that child? She is now and has always been more of a daughter to me. I have taken care of her since she was ten years old and will continue until my last breath leaves my body. If you would like to cast stones as to who has hurt her in this lifetime, take a long look in the mirror, Weasley.” Snape slammed Bill into the wall once more and allowed him to fall to the ground. Bill sat, gasping for air. He looked up into Snape’s eyes and saw the light dim once again, as if he suddenly became in control of himself once again.
Severus Snape turned on his heel and left Number 12 Grimmauld Place.
…..
Madame Pomfrey walked out of the room she had been working in for over 2 hours. As she made her way down the staircases and into the dining area where people were gathered, she wiped her tears away and took a deep breath to attempt to control herself.
Willow had not wanted any information. She allowed Poppy to do her job and asked that she remain quiet about her findings. Not only did she not want to know if she had been carrying a child, she did not want to know any of the details surrounding what other test were being performed on her.
She had asked that no one else, Severus included, be told of this procedure.
Poppy thought it was a mistake, and told her so. Poppy was a witch that thought if you knew all the facts you were that much closer to moving past them.
Obviously, her former student was not in agreement. That had to be respected and Poppy vowed never to speak of it.
Entering the Dining Hall she knew she was going to be questioned, so right off the bat she said, “I am not at liberty to tell anyone anything nor will I speak in hypotheticals. The patient has made her wishes known and I am honor bound to them. I can tell you that she is doing well and should be up and on her feet soon.”
And she is pissed off that she is here, Poppy added to herself.
“Now, I must return to Hogwarts, I have patients in the hospital wing. If you need me, use the floo.”
…..
Charlie dropped his things in the foyer of Number 12 Grimmauld Place and made his way to the dining room where everyone was waiting to eat one of Molly’s famous dinners. He was greeted with ease by the occupants, and took a seat between Bill and Remus.
“How’s your trip?” asked Bill. “How long you staying?”
“I put in for two weeks. Thought I would spend some time here and attend that damn ball before I leave. Mum says you put in a transfer for Gringotts here?”
“Yeah, wanted to be closer to the Order and well, I, kindof met a girl.”
Ron, Bill and Charlie’s youngest brother, a third year at Hogwarts started to laugh. Bill shot him a look and Ron buried his head in his dinner plate once again.
“So,” Charlie asked, “you gonna marry her?”
“I just met her! I’m using this time to get to know her well enough to see if I want to marry her. It’s nice though, if you’re getting to know someone, you aren’t required to jump hoops at the balls. I might possibly get to know her for a while.”
“Like to the end of the season?” questioned Fred with a smile. “Then maybe you can get to know another girl next season!”
“I’m so happy that you find this entertaining, Fred. I can’t wait to see what becomes of you during your time under the Ministry watch”, said Bill.
Dinner was entertaining. There were many order members, both ones Charlie knew and had never met before. He was amazed that Mundungus Fletcher lit up a stogie at the dinner table and took the opportunity to blaze a smoke himself. Half way through his nicotine enjoyment, his mother came in screaming about the filthy smell and made Mundungus put his out. Charlie took one last long drag and stubbed it out in his salad plate.
The wine had been free flowing and the conversation volleyed like the Quaffle in a long sustained Quidditch match. Members had excused themselves with other obligations and now the party was moving into the kitchen where Remus, Sirius, Bill, and Charlie broke out a game of Exploding Snap. Sometime in the middle of the night, the kitchen door eased open and in walked in Willow Scott.
She was wearing her night gown with a teal colored robe over it. Her feet were adorned with fuzzy house slippers and her hair was placed high on her head wrapped in a black ribbon. Bill and Charlie stood immediately upon her arrival.
“I’m sorry to disturb, the house elf, Kreacher , showed me where I might get something to eat,” she said.
“You’re not bothering anyone, come on in. We have loads of leftovers and seven different types of pie,” Sirius said, “Pick your poison and have a seat with us.”
Willow stood in the kitchen and looked at him, “Thank you. Are you certain…” she started.
“Anything means anything in this house. If it’s in the cupboard or the icebox you are welcome to it.”
Sirius went back to his game but watched to make certain she was indeed going to make herself at home. At one point he magically opened the doors to the utensils and plates when he noticed that she was about to start looking in all of the cupboards.
After placing a warming charm on her food and pouring herself a glass of pumpkin juice, she once again had a question. Where to sit. If she sat with them, as told, she would have to carry on a conversation, thus most likely making Bill uncomfortable. Should she take her plate to the dining room, or even back to the room she had been staying in? She was so tired of looking at the walls in her given space. She wanted noise. Some type of comfort that she was not the only person here in this home.
A chair backed out from against the table and a sandy haired man said to her, “Why don’t you sit beside me? As much as we enjoy the company of each other, we certainly can use a distraction. My name is Remus Lupin and this is Sirius Black. I believe you already know both Bill and Charlie.”
“Willow Scott. It’s a pleasure to meet you. I went to school with both Bill and Charlie. Of course, I do think that another brother joined them at some point, but I was never properly introduced to him.”
“Percy,” said Bill and Charlie at the same time, somewhat embarrassed .
Bill cleared his throat, “Percy came to Hogwarts my 7th year, Charlie’s 5th. Bit of a bookworm, Percy is. Made Head Boy this year.”
Charlie guffawed, “Bookworm is putting it nicely! The boys down right nerdy.”
She smiled at Charlie’s easy way of teasing his younger brother but caught the eye of Sirius and her mind wandered.
Sirius allowed her to look at him; he knew what she was thinking. However, when a beautiful woman stares at you, you just let them stare. After what seemed like forever, Sirius spoke.
“I remember seeing you as a child,” he said quietly.
“Yes. I remember seeing you at Azkaban on visiting days in the Day Room. You were always doing the crosswords. You were always very kind to my mother and me.”
“How is your mother doing? There came a point where she stopped coming with you and I assumed your parents separated. I can only imagine the strain incarceration could place on a marriage.”
“She passed in my 6th year. Pined for my father, she did. Never would take a lover and well, you know, due to her magical makeup, she needed the affection that only a man could offer. But, no matter how much father encouraged her, she just wouldn’t see anyone else.”
Sirius contemplated this for a moment; on one hand, this was a great testament to the love a witch and wizard can feel for each other, on the other hand, she died rather than live to see her child grow and mature. Sirius stated, “I can only imagine the amount of love and loyalty she felt for him. A man would be lucky to find companionship that strong. I am sorry that you had to lose her so young.”
“Thank you.” She whispered as she took a bite of her meal.
For a while no one spoke of anything other than their game. The men allowed her to tuck into her food and refilled her glass when it was empty. The laughter and easy conversation allowed Willow the time she needed to escape her head filled with memories. She didn’t want to think about the incident beside the lake. She was hoping to bury it down so deep that it didn’t affect her. This was not the first time she had been taken advantage of and most likely would not be the last.
When she finished her meal she took her plate to the sink, cleaned it and replaced it where she found it. She then turned to the men and thanked them for their hospitality. Feeling somewhat awkward, she decided she needed to return to her room.
“Before you go,” the one called Lupin said to her, “There is a library downstairs with plenty of literature if you would like to find something to read during your stay. We would like for you to join us at any time, but we know you need your rest, but whenever you get lonely up there, feel free to venture out. There is a nice yard out back with tables and benches. You’ll have to endure Charlie’s pack a day smoking habit, but don’t feel like you have to hide in that horrible room they stuck you in. We strive to be social people.”
Stopping at the doorway, she turned a little and said, “Thank you for the offer. I shall consider it.” Looking at Bill for a moment, her eyes moved to Charlie where they stayed for a moment too long, then traveled to Sirius and finally to Lupin. “Good night” she said as she headed out the door way.
….
“Spill,” stated Sirius staring straight into Bill’s eyes.
“Huh,” said Bill, hoping the stupid act would work.
“No fucking way, mate. What the hell is up between you two? I mean, I get it, you dated in school, fooled around, probably your first real fuck, but come on, the tension that rolls off your body when she walks in the door is unmistakable. And you,” he turned to Charlie, “what about you? Her eyes linger on you like you’re the last ginger in the bucket and she needs the root for an antidote.”
Charlie looked at Black and Lupin and announced, “She is probably just angry with me, I did leave her alone to be brutally violated. Most likely, she is attempting not to hex my nuts off. As for her and Bill, well, he won’t spill, I’ve been asking for ages and he just tells me to ‘shut the fuck up’.”
“I’m going to bed,” announced Bill. He rose from his chair, placed his dishes in the sink, thanked everyone for a pleasant night and took the stairs two at a time.
….
Charlie excused himself after Bill left and gone outside with a bottle and a pack. Under the moonlight he sat and thought about everything that was going on in his life. There were so many changes that were being thrust upon him.
Lupin slid in the chair next to him and grabbed a smoke out of his pack.
“Wanna talk about it? I really am a great listener and quite honestly am the most trustworthy of all the people here.”
Charlie looked at him and smiled, “I’ve been told that when people bill themselves as trustworthy, they’re actually not.”
Lupin smiled and nodded at him. For a while they sat in silence, each trapped in their own thought. Finally, Charlie spoke.
“Everything is changing and it’s all happening way to fast. I don’t want a wife, but I am forced to search for one. I want to make my family proud but I can’t just settle on a nice Gryffindor girl that I don’t care for. Bill has transferred, he is being pressured to take a wife by the bank; he thinks I don’t know, but I do. He’s my best mate. We talk about everything. But lately, he has been so preoccupied with finding a wife; he’s never allowed himself the time he needed to get over his first love, and you can’t deny that she was his first love. Something happen.”
“You’re attracted to her,” Lupin stated. “You want to make a move, but you’re worried about your brother.”
“No. I mean, yes, I think she is gorgeous, but most everyone thinks she is.”
“Then why do you stare at her with such abandon?”
“She belonged to my brother. I have no idea why he gave her up; it baffles me as to why. One day, they were snogging in the dungeons and the next he was telling me never to speak her name again. I suppose it’s never sat right with me.”
They sat in silence for a long time. Each pouring more wine into their glass; Charlie chain-smoking. Finally, Lupin got up and announced, “Going to bed. The sun will be up soon. Oh, and Charlie, you’re a young lad and a heck of a fine man; there’s nothing wrong with courting the woman who saw your brother as a girl.”
…..
Charlie opened the door to the room him and Bill were sharing for the moment. As quietly as he could he removed his boots, pants and shirt before lying down in the bed adjacent to Bill’s. He knew Bill was awake but wasn’t going to attempt conversation.
He lay there for a long while before sleep and drink came over him.
