Chapter Four
(Fourth year)
"Drink slower, Ginny." Luna scolded the ginger that didn’t seem to realize that they could get more. It wasn’t meant to be guzzled like water. Sneaking the butterbeer onto school grounds had been simple. Befriending the house elves had it’s advantages. They all seemed to adore Luna in the kitchens. She went down to speak to them every Sunday after breakfast. Thanks to the lot they were in the process of enjoying a wonderful picnic near the lake. There was enough food to feed their entire house. Food which Severus was currently munching on like he hadn’t eaten in a year. "You’re almost as awful as Sev."
"Not likely, I close my mouth when I chew." Ginny reached for a drumstick. She was starving. Practice this morning had been hell. Their team captain was wonderful but very strict. Yaxley made sure they were in top shape for the upcoming game against Hufflepuff. It never took much to defeat that house. Their game against Gryffindor was weeks away. With Luna as their seeker they were sure to win, hands down. There was no reason to make her so sore on a Saturday.
"I beg your pardon," Severus swallowed the meat before carefully wiping his mouth with the silk napkin. He was hungry. He had missed breakfast this morning to finish up a potion. Then he had promised to meet Lily in the library to help her with a Charms essay, that had taken care of lunch. Plus, he was sure the house elves never made the food this good on a normal day. He was sure this chicken had some sort of extra flavoring. No doubt the little creatures went out of their way to make the meal extra special for the blonde they had befriended.
"Now you’re speaking with food in your mouth." Lily elbowed him in the side. She didn’t want to see the processed meat. The only one with better table manners than herself was Luna. As much as she adored her best friend, he needed to refine some of his personal skills. Perhaps adore wasn’t the right word for it. It was more than that. They had a special bond, one she cherished. It didn’t matter that he was in Slytherin or that she was in Gryffindor. None of her friends seemed to care about her blood or where she was from. Yet, she knew that Luna had already heard about the association from her brother. Being Luna’s guardian, the former Head Boy was trying to dictate who she befriends.
Ignoring the two open mouths flashing food, Luna turned her attention solely on the only one besides herself not acting like a wild boar. "So, Lily, what exactly was Potter saying to you this morning in potions? You didn’t seem too happy. Not that you’d have a reason to be after that foul statement Black made about your arse."
"He told me not to be upset with his friend since Black had a point. ‘You really do have nice arse, Evans.’ Foul git, he seemed to be waiting for a positive response to his idea of a compliment." Lily didn’t care for those types of crass comments. She’d prefer it if a boy were to tell her that she had nice skin. Or that she had a beautiful smile. In her opinion when a male pointed out three attributes he was thinking of only one thing. She knew that she liked it whenever Sev told her that she looked nice.
"Please, don’t ruin my appetite by speaking about those four." Ginny did NOT want to discuss those people. They were a bane to her existence, and Sev’s too. Even after three years the toads would not leave her friend alone. Oh, she knew better than to defend his honor when he could see it. She would always wait until she was alone with the group before getting revenge. There was one thing she had learned about their only male counterpart, he had his manly pride. It often caused him to lash out but she never took it to heart. Hell, she’d heard worse insults coming from her sister, Bella.
"They are actually calling themselves the Marauders. As if such a group needs to be recognized by anything other than their need for attention." Severus sneered recalling the four boasting about their new name. It was nothing short of announcing that they had a total disregard for the rules or for the feelings of others. Of course, that didn’t stop half of the female population from fawning all over three of them. He was glad that Lily hadn’t fallen for that fake attention Potter liked to hand out.
"They just like attention." Luna knew the type. That didn’t mean she supported what they were doing. Skipping classes, causing mayhem, and picking on other students. It was sort of like what her brother did, minus the skipping classes. Lucius seemed to be over the need for attention these days. She knew it had something to do with the death of their mother. Unfortunately, their father had joined his wife three months later. His death had been classified as an accident but she knew better. He had been slain while out playing with his friends. Upon the funeral last year she had been handed over to her brother’s guardianship. Lucius mostly had his hands busy with the family affairs so he didn’t have too much time to worry about hers. Which suited her just fine. She had been getting tired of him mentioning the fact that she was consorting with not only a Gryffindor but a Mudblood. She only pointed out that she wasn’t going to marry Lily so who she spoke with while at school shouldn’t matter. Being a female meant she had no sway over what her family did. Lily was Severus’ best friend and Severus was their house mate and friend. Lily was also the only one she could have an intelligent conversation with. Ginny and Sev were brilliant in their own ways but their mannerisms often made it difficult.
"I wouldn’t take it heart, Lily. Just last weeks in Muggle Studies, him and Black were trying to get two other girls to meet them in the Astronomy Tower to look at the stars. Which we all know means they wanted them there to snog." Ginny still cringed inwardly recalling those simpering giggles from the two hollow-headed slags. Didn’t they realize they were just notches to the Marauders? The two seemed to be making it a game to get them in pairs. They were making a name for themselves as being a lady’s man. Well, none of the slags they hooked up with could ever be confused for being ladies. "I’d just ignore them. Even if you were looking for a boyfriend, you can do a lot better than Potter. If he can’t take his studies or the way he treats others seriously, how can he take a relationship seriously?"
"Oh, I know. I’d never mess with him. He’s not my type." Lily knew what she wanted. Someone sweet, brilliant and handsome in their own way. He was sitting next to her but hadn’t gotten the nerve to ask her out yet. They were going to attend the upcoming Halloween Ball together but just as friends. She was hoping to move their relationship in another direction soon. The problem was she wasn’t sure how he felt and was too afraid to ask. She didn’t want to ruin their friendship but making the mistake of admitting that she liked him as more than a friend. He was also so hard on himself that if she were to confess he’d probably think she was doing so out of pity. Severus didn’t see his own good qualities but was extremely focused on the bad ones. "Have you two gotten dates for the ball?"
"I’m not going." Luna didn’t feel up to it. Going meant finding a date. There was no way she’d embarrass herself by stagging the affair. She’d been asked out by a Hufflepuff yesterday but she had kindly turned him down. Rumors were that he had more arms than the Giant Squid. She would like to go for the dancing but not to be pawed. "I’m going to remain in the Common Room and get some extra studying done. It’s next weekend so I doubt I’ll get a date in time."
"Luna, dear, you don’t need to improve your brain to get a date. You’re blonde and a Malfoy. Maybe you’d get a date if you’d stop scowling at everything with a penis that glances in your direction. You are officially no longer the Slytherin Princess but the Slytherin Iceberg." Ginny rolled her eyes at the glare. It was true. She had at least ten of their classmates approach her to see what their chances were of her blonde friend agreeing to go out with them. Sadly, she had to be honest with most of them. "Why are you so damn picky? Just ask someone, you’ll score. I, myself, intend to ask Yaxley. He’s been rather sweet to me lately. Nothing hotter than having an older date."
"Then ask Dumbledore, he may have the night free." Luna did not want to go with anyone. Well, she wouldn’t mind going with someone but he would never ask her and if he did she wouldn’t be able to accept. They had done nothing but bicker with one another in the last three years so there was no way he’d ditch his latest ‘bird’ to ask a Slytherin. There was also the little fact of their canceled engagement. Over the summer she had learned that she had been originally betrothed to Sirius Black since birth. That had been canceled over the summer. Neither of them were supposed to know about the engagement until they were sixteen but she had chanced upon a conversation his mother and Lucius. Lucius had been wanting to terminate the contract completely with the argument that Sirius was a disgrace and not fit to be part of the Malfoy family. That horrible woman had argued that she did agree, her eldest son was a disappointment but she had more than one son. As of August, Luna was engaged to wed Regulus Black after he graduated Hogwarts a year after she did. She was kind of disgusted with the idea. Regulus was in their house and had already brought up the engagement. He pointed out that he was the better brother and would be a husband worthy of her. She didn’t want a worthy husband, she wanted one with dark grey eyes and a tilted smile.
That was wrong. Ginny didn’t want that old. She wanted someone handsome not a hundred. If she couldn’t get Yaxley to agree then she’d be forced to ask someone in her own year. That Michael Blighthouse wasn’t that bad on the eyes. If rumors were true then he was a great kisser. She would enjoy herself during the Ball. They didn’t have them often."That’s disgusting! I can’t eat now. Ugh, wrinkled, baggy, Merlin’s balls."
"Or in this case Dumbledore’s." Lily chuckled when the other ginger made retching noises and spit out half chewed white meat onto a napkin. The laughter was cut short hearing the screaming voices of females. She assumed they were supposed to be laughs but the sound came off more like nails on a chalkboard. Instantly, she recognized the two Ravenclaws that were in their third year walking alongside Potter and Black. Lupin and Pettigrew were trailing behind in a conversation with each other. However, the git duo were both walking with their latest conquests, arms draped over bony shoulders. "Speak of the devil."
"And he shall appear." Ginny closed the napkin to hide her moment of weakness. She didn’t have to turn to know who was walking their way. The high pitched snorting said it all. If that didn’t clue her in, then the heated look of hatred Severus was wearing spoke volumes. There was only two people that could anger him without doing anything but breathing. "Deep breathes, Sev. They won’t start anything when we are with you."
To prove her correct, the pair walked by with their slags while only briefly glancing in their direction. Luna wanted to call them cowards but doing so would only instigate a confrontation that would be mainly focused on Severus. Being the male of the group he’d try to take on the brunt of the duo’s anger. For the most part they didn’t attack unless Severus was alone. He was the one that received their negative attention all of the time. For the most part they left nasty names and glares for the female’s of the group. Except Evans, who had to deal with Potter’s obnoxious flirtation. They hadn’t bothered to try and hex Luna since second year. Black had hexed her hair an ugly green color. In retaliation, Ginny had broken into the forbidden section of the library to find a very nasty curse. It had turned Black into a female for two weeks. It had been hilarious to see the boy crying over having his first menstrual cycle. That alone kept them all from trying to throw anything at Ginny as well. When all was said and done, there was one Black they didn’t want to mess with.
"Is it just me or does Lupin look like someone beat his arse?" Ginny was positive that the tallest of the Marauders looked extremely tired. There were dark rings under his eyes as well. His hair was also disheveled. She had her guesses. The best idea she could come up with was that he had a drinking problem. At least once a month she would notice that he’d come back to class with a hangover. Must be tough being friends with Potter.
Luna had her guesses as well, him being an alcoholic was at the bottom of her list. Since second year she had begun to notice that at least once a month there was a period where he was haggard in appearance. He also appeared to be rather moody during this time. During potions she had noticed him snapping at Pettigrew a few times. It wasn’t until last year she decided to take note of the exact dates. After three months she came to the conclusion that the times were during the full moon and the cycle surrounding it. She knew of only one dark creature that was said to have these qualities. It made her wonder why Dumbledore would allow a werewolf on campus. Where did he go during the full moon? Did he have a place inside the school? Or did he leave the grounds? Whatever the case, he looked especially worn today. Last night had been the full moon. He had to feel like utter shite. "I’ll be right back. I just remembered that I wanted to ask Lupin something about the Transfiguration essay."
The group was already a good distance away from where she’d been sitting. Not one to be thwarted due to having short legs, she sped up to catch up with the trailing duo. Would he speak to her? Or would he allow his cronies to chirp in? If Pettigrew said anything she’d just hex him bald again. "Lupin! Remus Lupin, can I have a minute, please?"
What did she want? He was instantly wary having a Malfoy trying to speak to him. The only time she ever spoke in his direction was to trade insults with the others. He was by nature an observer, so he left all of the fun to the others. Not brought up to be rude, he paused in walking to allow the girl to catch up with them. Petter had also stopped at being called upon. He watched as the short girl ran daintily towards him. If she didn’t share classes with him, he’d mistake her for a first year, maybe a second year. Well, if he didn’t look at her chest. She was petite but she was already starting to developing up front. Nothing like the thick mounds Sirius’ newest bird possessed but a nice little set that could clearly be seen beneath the pink sweater. The jeans would also show off a well formed backside. It was just something he had noticed lately whenever she would leave class before him. "What can I do for you, Malfoy?"
Get rid of the dead weight, for starters. Luna did not want to speak to him about his problem in front of the other male. She had no idea how close he was to his friends and in the slight chance that they were not aware of it then she wasn’t going to be the one to inform them. Not to mention the way the rat-faced git stared at her chest, really chapped her arse. She waited until she was close enough to speak without having to raise her voice before speaking. "Luna, please. May I speak to you for a few minutes? Alone."
"It’s alright, Peter. I doubt she chased me down to throw a hex. Go catch up to the others." The others having stopped about twenty feet away to see what was happening. Him being outed by the Slytherin Princess was a rare sight to behold. As long as it wasn’t the Queen, then he would have kept walking, fast. He was by no means a coward, he possessed common sense. There was a reason they tried not to get hexed by Black. That one had a nasty temper and a very gruesome imagination. "What did you need?"
She waited until the stout one was far enough away to speak freely. "I wanted to ask if you were feeling well. You are looking rather peaked." His skin was carrying an ill pallor. She knew it would only last another two days but seeing him so pale could make anyone with a conscious worry. She wasn’t evil or heartless. Since she had figured out his problem, maybe she could find a way to help him.
"I wasn’t aware that my welfare meant anything to you." He felt like he’d been ran over by a troll. His entire body ached, he had a migraine, his muscles felt like they were still torn and he was tired. There was nothing for him to do but wait it out. It was something he had become accustomed to over the years. As long as he lived he’d have to deal with what the full moon brought. Why did she care anyways? This couldn’t be the first time for her to notice that he looked like shite. "If that’s all, my friends are waiting."
"No wait," what an arse. She realized that his friends were waiting but he didn’t need to be rude. "Look, I realize me approaching you is rather odd but I’m being sincere in my concern. I also know that your friends are probably stewing over the fact that I thought it my place to speak to you. Just do me a favor, later at dinner ask for some Blackginger tea. The house elves make an excellent cup. It takes a while to get use to the flavor, lemon helps."
"And why would I want this?" He’d never heard of it. Why would he want to drink something besides the normal pumpkin juice? Was she wanting to pull a prank in the guise of being concerned? He wasn’t going to drink something that would give him the shites. What reason did he have to take any advice a Slytherin would give? That brought up the question as to why she would suggest it to begin with.
"Once a month for about a week, I drink it at every meal. It helps to relax sore muscles and is also wonderful for pain. Not to mention it works better than any pepperup potion." Did she need to spell it out for him? "I don’t think you want me to announce out loud why you need it. I’m observant enough to have figured out what your problem is."
"You know?" He didn’t believe that. If she knew of his problem then why was he still in school? He was sure she would go blabbing to that brother of hers to have him removed. After all, he was a dangerous animal. Pureblood families wouldn’t want a wild half-breed dwelling near their children. "I doubt that. Whatever you think my problem is, I assure you, you are mistaken."
"Not likely but I’m not going to argue with you. Try the tea, alright. You know as well as I do that Hogwart’s house elves wouldn’t give you something harmful. I can’t guarantee that you’ll like the taste but it will help." He could take her advice or continue to dwell in pain. If he wanted to be thick-headed then that was his issue. Luna gave him a smile before turning to head back towards her own friends. If she had to stand there another minute while being glared at she might be tempted to send a crude hand gesture. Neither Black or Potter seemed to happy over her speaking quietly with their friend.
Valid point, he gave her that. Remus thought about it while she left him standing alone. Did he want to try it? Was it possible to help with his aches? He could only take so many potions after waking. What harm could come from it? None of the elves working at the school would give him something that would cause injury. Maybe he would try it. She seemed sincere in the suggestion. How could he suspect anything when she smiled like that? One little tilt of those pale pink lips and he understood why she was so highly thought upon. Pureblood, rich, and beautiful.
"What the hell was that? What the fuck did she want?" Sirius screamed the demand, ignoring the nails still clawing at his arms. How dare that pompous slag swatter her boney arse over here to speak to one of them. Anything she had to say to one of them she could say it to them all. It didn’t look to him like they had been bickering. Yet, for what reason would they have to carry on a conversation? Was Moony keeping another secret from them? Was this the first time the two had spoken? He didn’t like it.
"Oh, she wanted to ask about our Transfiguration project. She wants to borrow one of the books I have already borrowed from the library." He came up with the lie rather easy. He did sit beside the girl during class. He just wasn’t sure why he lied. His furry secret was already out. For some reason he didn’t want them to know that she also seemed to know and had made a suggestion that could possibly help. Maybe because they would try to convince him that it was all a hoax and part of him didn’t want it to be. It would be nice to know that someone besides his best friends knew about it and didn’t automatically assume the worse. There was also the fact that she was a pretty girl. As often as Sirius told him he needed to start thinking about dating, he knew he couldn’t. If he spent too much time with a girl then she’d soon learn about his problem. He couldn’t risk someone that wouldn’t accept it finding out.
"That didn’t look like a request for a book. She smiled at you," Sirius had seen that. The sun had practically blinded them off her teeth. No one smiled like that to get a book. She was a fucking Malfoy, she could have any book ordered and delivered within the day. Not to mention she had sent Peter away. She could have asked for a book in front of their friend. It meant they were discussing something that they weren’t suppose to hear. Not to mention Lupin was a horrible liar. "Why couldn’t she ask in front of Peter?"
"Maybe she feels uncomfortable in his presence since he is always staring at her chest." Remus snapped in his defense. A lot of females didn’t want to converse with their stout friend around. Like it was his fault she didn’t want to have Peter around. Hell, a lot of their own birds didn’t really want Peter around. A few had gone as far as to say that he was weird. What the hell did it matter? They had only spoke for a few minutes and she had sought him out.
"Peter stares at every girl’s chest." Sirius had already noticed that fact. He also knew that he seemed to like staring at the blonde Slytherin more than others. That didn’t worry him, she’d never go for someone like Peter. Now, Moony was something else. Not only was he tall, muscular and fairly attractive, his friend was also brilliant. The only bad mark against Remus was the fact that he was a half-blood. That didn’t mean that someone like Luna wouldn’t see him as something to play with while still in school. "What aren’t you telling us?"
"Enough, Padfoot. Why are you getting so bent? Besides a book, what other reason would she have to speak to him?" James cut in before an argument could break out. He didn’t really care for any of those Slytherins but it was just a short chat. They all knew that Malfoy was the smartest student in their year. Was it really shocking that she’d hunt Moony down for a book? If she wanted to use it then she’d try to get it. He doubted there was more to it than that. "Come on, I want to book the Quidditch field for Thursday before Slytherin gets it."
"Now, be sure you follow the directions precisely. I don’t want any of you to end up with burns." Slughorn underlined to stir GENTLY after adding the fifth bean. His previous class he had sent three students to the hospital wing because their idea of gently was to whip the potion like one would a cake mix. "If you wish the directions are also on page one ninety-two of your text books. You may begin."
"Didn’t we make this last year?" Ginny was positive they had created this potion or something very similar in third year. Not that she paid much attention in class. Being paired with Luna had it’s benefits. All she had to do on most days was do whatever her friend said while they chatted. She was just as lucky as Lily, almost. There was one subject that Severus excelled at more so than the blonde, it was potions. Unfortunately the other duo was seated two rows forward and deeply lost in conversation with their heads bent over the cauldron already. As long as she got the potion completed she didn’t care if they finished first or not. It warmed her heart to see the two together. It was obvious to everyone except those two, how smitten they were with each other. Maybe she should do something to help them along. "I wonder when Severus is going to get off his arse and finally ask Lily out."
"After we graduate." Luna adjusted the heat to make sure it was at the correct temperature. This was a conversation they had already had on many occasions. She had already hinted to their male mate to get around to asking Lily out on a date. He would only scoff and claim that they were merely best friends. He was a genius but when it came to matters of the heart, he was an idiot. They should just snog already and put her and Ginny out of their misery. It was annoying at times to constantly hear the sighs and the longing looks that suggested both needed to either have a serious snogging session or hit the loo. "Speaking of dates, Regulus asked me to go to Hogsmead with him this weekend."
"You told him no, right?" Ginny wasn’t about to be left alone on the weekends. If Luna got a boyfriend, then she would have to get herself one by default. Being an extra was something she would NOT do. She didn’t really want to get a boyfriend yet. There was plenty of time to find love. They had quidditch to worry over. Not to mention Regulus hadn’t inherited the Black’s good looks. He reminded her of a cross between a troll and a pixie. "You can’t date him, I forbid it."
Luna didn’t need to be told not to date him. He was a year younger than she was and not her type. He was too stiff, too demanding and too Black! She didn’t want someone that didn’t know how to be responsible but she didn’t want someone that took them too seriously. It didn’t matter what Ginny had heard over the holidays. Lucius had yet to say anything to her about the new arrangement. She wouldn’t let on that she knew. It made her wonder if Sirius had known about it. Probably not. And if he had known he was probably ecstatic that he wouldn’t be forced to wed her. Or maybe he had known about it and that was the reason he had acted out so much. Everyone that knew his mother would know she would disown him sooner or later. The dark Marauder wouldn’t speak to her, much less want to marry her. "I told him no. I explained that I had too much on my plate with studies and quidditch to worry about a relationship. He kissed my hand and said he’d wait for me."
"I hope you scrubbed it after with lye. No offense to that part of my family but he’s atrocious to look upon. He got the maturity and Sirius got the looks, shame. At least you are no longer engaged to that arse. Imagine what that would have been like. I mean, look at them over there. He can’t even brew a simple potion without getting distracted." Ginny jerked her head in the direction of Potter and Black. They were cackling over something being said by Pettigrew. They were obviously directing the comment towards Severus, who was trying to ignore them. Lily didn’t like to see him fight, so their friend was doing his best to keep his temper in check. "He’d probably get distracted while shagging and forget what he was doing."
"I don’t know." Luna didn’t think that would happen. Well, she had heard that it didn’t happen that way. Rumors were already flying around the school. Rumors were that Sirius Black was great behind closed doors, any closed door to be exact. It didn’t matter if he left the girls alone afterwards, they all bragged about what a good time they had been given. She didn’t want to think about the rumors that he had perverse tastes. Several Hufflepuffs were saying that he had blindfolded them then made them drink a lust potion. That he had them screaming their heads off for over an hour. What did it say for him if he had to use a potion to get them in the mood?
"I do, he’s an arse." That was about to get his head hexed three times it’s normal size if he didn’t shut his bitch hole. Ginny could barely hear what was being said. It was plain as the nose on her face that they were giving out their typical treatment. As seconds went by it became apparent that Potter was doing most of the antagonizing. Whatever was being said was turning poor Severus’ face red with ire. Lily had a comforting hand upon his arm, trying to prevent any hexing. Not getting the desired effect the pompous git flicked his wand to send Severus’ text flying across the room. "I am so tired of his shite. Severus can bitch at me later."
"Wai..." Luna winced as her warning fell on deaf ears. The hex shot from the tip of the cedar wand and hit Potter unexpectedly in the arse. The Gryffindor released a howl of pain that caused Pettigrew to drop the vial of Unicorn urine, it crashed on the floor and hit Black’s shoes. The raven then backed up so fast he hit the table containing Longbottom’s supplies. The upcoming explosion that followed set the innocent boy’s robes on fire.
"What is going on here? Someone put Longbottom out. Black!" Slughorn sighed when the female version opened her mouth to protest. "Not you, the other one. What the devil do you think you are doing? I believe that I already lectured on how dangerous these components could be. Not only did you destroy a fellow student’s assignment but you could seriously injure someone with this nonsense. Detention this evening and what is your problem, Potter? My word, are you swelling?"
"What does it look like?" James rubbed his stinging arse as the laughter erupted around him. He’d experienced many stinging hexes before, most by his friends but they paled in comparison to what had hit him where he sat. The professor was correct, his left arse cheek was swelling rapidly. It was already twice it’s normal size. His eyes swung to the pair that was standing too quiet for his liking. He didn’t need to be as brilliant as Remus to see the triumph in those blue eyes. That Slytherin bitch had hit him in the back...arse with a hex. That entire house didn’t have any kind of honor.
"It looks like you’ve suffered a rather serious snake bite. If you can’t sit then head to the hospital wing. You two have already disrupted my class long enough. Silence and return to your assignments if you don’t want a failing grade, all of you."
"Sorry about that, Sirius." Peter stuttered as the smell began to surround them. With a flick Remus cleaned up the mess. He’d been so busy laughing he hadn’t seen the hex that hit James. No one seemed to have noticed it being done, which meant one person had done it. The only one that was exceptional at hexing was the Slytherin Queen. It explained why his friend’s arse was still swelling.
"No problem, mate." Sirius tried not to chuckle seeing the damage. He was glad that it hadn’t struck him instead. They had been having too much fun to remember that his cousin may be able to hear what was being said. This time James had become a victim to that infamous temper. "How bad is it?"
It fucking burns! That witch had got him good. He hadn’t thought he was being that loud. The slag should pay more attention to her assignment than what he was doing. Nosey wench! Though he had to admit it was a good one. He wouldn’t be able to sit down for a few hours. There was no way he’d encourage her victory by admitting that he needed to see it tended to. He’d deal with it. If Sirius could deal with being turned into a female then he’d take this like a man. He’d just get her back at a later date. A much later date. "What the fuck are you smiling about, Moony?"
"It was a good one," Remus let the grin spread as their friend vigorously rubbed his rear. He had to give it to the girl, she was a clever one. He chanced a look in their direction, he was safe. Unlike the others he wasn’t going to go out of his way to anger them. He wasn’t scared, not much, but he didn’t want to fall victim to a nasty hex. He was just glad that Snape didn’t seem keen to learning from the girl. If he were to then James would think twice about casting his own. Instead, their daily squabbles were kept to whenever Black wasn’t around. Which meant Malfoy, no Luna, wasn’t around either. She had asked him months ago to address her as so. He wouldn’t in front of his friends but it didn’t hurt to call her so when thinking of her. The tea she had advised had helped to the point that he didn’t regret the days following his transformations. He was still digesting the fact that a Malfoy had been kind enough to want to help him. As if sensing his gaze the blonde turned to look in his direction. He couldn’t help himself, she smiled in return. His chest tightened and he found himself smiling back.
