Chapter Five-
“And this is where I plan on sending the children if they're bad...are you listening to me Harry?” Hermione asked with a frown as she stood next to a stool in the corner of her classroom.
“Yeah I'm listening. Do you really think putting them in the corner is going to work?”
“Well they're in my Muggle Studies class so they'll be punished like muggles are.”
“You get put in the corner at home not at school.”
“Well in my class they'll be in the corner. Besides if you want to punish misbehaving students in a different way you should go and tell the Headmaster that you want the DADA Professor position. Which, if I may say, you're being very disrespectful to the Headmaster by turning him down.”
“I'm disrespectful because I want to go to a University and enter a different career path?”
“Yes. The Headmaster is just trying to help you so you don't have to worry about anyone offering you a position just because of who you are.”
Snorting, Harry said, “No one has offered me a position that I wasn't qualified for since I ripped into the last person that did that.”
“And the newspaper wrote a horrible article about you because you did that. You're really only making yourself look bad.”
“Well then I'm making myself look bad and maybe people won't try to marry their children off to me.” Harry said with a shrug.
“Oh honestly, Harry. Stop acting so immature. You're letting everyone down by not accepting the Headmaster's job offer and the children are going to suffer because there is no DADA professor as of yet. And while you're at it why don't you change back whatever you've done to your ears? It isn't getting you any attention and just looks absolutely ridiculous."
“That is on the Headmaster, Hermione. I told him thank you, but no thank you months ago. If he hasn't found anyone to take the position then that is his fault.” Harry said, ignoring her gibe about his ears. If she was acting like this she didn't deserve to know about his inheritance.
“Oh you're so selfish right now. The children need the best and you won't because you don't want to be handed such a good position?”
“Alright you know what I'm done right now, Hermione. I'm not being selfish or immature. Quite the opposite actually. I'm done talking to you right now because if you keep on the track you're going on one of us is going to say something we might not mean.”
“Oh you can be sure I'm not going to say anything I don't mean right now. And you definitely are being immature and selfish. Look at how you're treating poor Ginny! She's terrified you're going to go away and cheat on her with some University floozy! Just man up and go propose to her!”
“Oh my god, Hermione how many times do I have to tell you and Ginny that I'm not with Ginny! I don't love her and I don't want to be with her. Look I don't know why the two of you think that and quite frankly I don't care because I'm not going to be with her just because others think I should. I'm not going to sacrifice my own health and happiness for the delusions of others. Now if you'll excuse me I have things to do today.”
Walking out of the classroom, Harry ignored the screeching coming from Hermione and hurried down the hall.
Running his fingers through his hair, causing the spikes to become a little messed up, Harry headed down the stairs and towards the front door. Heading out the door he heard Dumbledore calling out for him, but ignored him, acting as if he didn't hear him, and made for the edge of the wards so he could apparate away.
When he landed in the back yard next to the newly painted barn that housed a few horses, Harry gave a sigh of relief. At least he had managed to avoid one person that caused him stress today.
Heading towards the picnic blanket where he could see his adorable one year old godson hesitantly tottering towards Sirius who had a large grin on his face and his arms held open while Remus recorded it with a video camera.
“Aw isn't this just a perfect family moment?” Harry called out, loudly.
Turning with a squeal and falling to his bottom, Teddy quickly and clumsily climbed back to his feet and headed towards Harry.
Laughing at Sirius' cry of 'hey', Harry dropped down and scooped the baby into his arms and spun around in a circle causing him to squeal in joy.
“Good job, Teddy! You're getting so good at walking.” Harry praised the baby. Nuzzling into Teddy's soft hair, Harry inhaled the clean baby scent and walked back towards the two men sitting on the picnic blanket.
“Aw don't be so sour Sirius.” Harry said when Sirius pouted at the two. “Teddy's just smart enough to come to the person who isn't as likely to prank him or his father than to the one who would.”
“I wouldn't prank you two!” Sirius protested, even though his lips were twitching with repressed laughter.
“Tell that to the pillow I had to throw out because of your joke.” Remus said, setting the camera aside and taking Teddy from Harry. Opening up the picnic basket, Remus pulled out the mixture of chopped fruit for Teddy and handed him a small slice of banana.
Making sounds of pleasure, Teddy happily devoured the fruit he was handed.
“Are you looking forwards to starting classes soon?” Remus asked while handing out sandwiches.
“Yeah I can't wait. Then maybe I won't get as many letters offering 'paid training' for a job I'm no where near qualified for.”
“I thought they stopped after that one incident.” Sirius said, with a mouthful of food.
Making a face, Harry said, “Finish chewing before you talk. And they did...they just started offering in letters which don't bother me as much because I can just stop reading them and get rid of them.”
Making a show of chewing, Sirius stuck his tongue out at Harry with food on it, causing Harry and Remus to cringe and Teddy to laugh and try to copy the action.
“Sirius!” Remus scolded, covering Teddy's eyes.
Smiling at his family, Harry settled in, eating and just enjoying the calm that came with the war being over.
A few weeks later, Sitting at a corner table sipping at a cup of hot black cherry berry tea, Harry flipped through his notebook for his Wizarding anatomy class jotting down notes and highlighting passages in the book that would be relevant to any tests his Professors might give. He had already finished his two morning classes and he was currently on his hour and a half break from eleven to twelve thirty after that he had two afternoon classes and then he was done for the day.
So far everything was going well for him. He had classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. His first class , Wizarding anatomy, was from seven to nine and then his next class, history of medicine, was from nine until eleven. Then his first afternoon class, medical terms 101, ran from twelve thirty to two thirty and then his final class, basic ailments, from two thirty to four thirty. They didn't need to worry about being late for classes, though, because each classroom had a fireplace set up in the back so that students could floo to their next class instead of rushing through the halls.
Looking up when the chair across from him was pulled out, Harry smiled at Draco as he sat down in the chair.
“Hello Draco I'm surprised to see you today I thought you had a meeting with your guidance counselor today.”
“It's already over. He just wanted to ask if I had decided on a specific major or not.” Draco said setting down his bag beside his chair as a waitress came over and set a salad and cup of tea in front of him. “Thank you.” Draco said with a nod.
Laughing, Harry said, “I guess we're predictable huh? We're here every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on our break, but we don't order the same thing so did I miss you placing your order?'
“I ordered when I came in before I came over to the table.” Draco said with a nod as he made his tea up the way he liked it. “How are your classes going?”
“Good, really good. I guess when there is no threat of an evil person coming after me and I can actually focus on school and classes I'm a good student.” Stretching his feet out under the table he felt his leg bump into Draco's, but didn't move it since Draco didn't seem to mind and whenever they were touching Harry always seemed to feel safer.
“So my mother has heard from a mother of a student that was a year or two behind us that a certain redheaded female is spouting off that you're going to propose to her during her graduation...how could you not tell me such a thing?” Draco teased.
Rolling his eyes Harry snagged a piece of cucumber from Draco's salad and nibbled on it before talking. “You know I might just have to go to her graduation and do something that will finally make her understand that I don't want to marry her and that I want to be with another male than a female.”
“How are you going to do that?” Draco asked leaning forwards. If there was one thing he liked it was teaching certain redheads that Harry did not want to marry them.
“I think I might have to see if I can find someone that is willing to go to the graduation with me and maybe let others see us share a kiss or two or even just us holding hands...is that too childish?”
“It will probably just bring bad attention to you. As much as I like seeing people get theirs for being oblivious and just plain...ignorant after being told something, I think you're better off just ignoring it and not going at all.”
“Yeah you're probably right.” Harry said closing his notebook and slid it back into his bag. “So I received an invitation from your mother for the Halloween ball she plans on throwing next month on Halloween.”
“Yes she told me she sent your invitation when she informed me about the party. She seems to think if she sends it early enough you won't be able to say no to coming.”
Smiling, Harry shook his head and said, “Your mother sure is something else.”
“I told you she's persistent. So do you think you'll give in and go? I would love to have someone there to protect me from Pansy's attention.”
“Wait last time we talked about her she absolutely hated your guts for not supporting the Dark Lord...what changed?”
“Mother and I kept the Malfoy fortune and received a slightly large stipend that some relative had set aside for any Malfoy that didn't follow a Dark Lord. Since mother and I are the only Malfoy's alive we received it after the truth about us not following him came out.”
Nodding in understanding since it was in the paper about certain families receiving stipends like that after the Dark Lord was defeated, Harry set aside his empty tea cup and packed up the rest of his things in his bag.
“Do you have to leave already?” Draco asked with a pout?”
Smiling, Harry reached out and gave Draco a pat on his closet hand. “Yes because it's already the end of September and I have yet to be late for any of my classes...I don't want to start now even though I'm enjoying the company.”
Gathering up his own things, the two dropped a tip on the table for the waitress that had helped them and headed towards the side room where they could floo back to their schools.
****END CHAPTER****
I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. More of the creature part will be starting next chapter. I just didn't feel right with just jumping right into it without building this little back part of the story, but it should start picking up in the next chapter. Anyway I hope you all enjoyed this chapter.
Also, there might not be an update next Friday. The day before I'm having an operation done. But if not Friday hopefully that weekend. I don't plan on missing an update because of it, it just might end up being a little later than normal.
