“Tempus!”
Draco bit back yet another nasty retort. Granger was driving him insane. She’d been checking the time every five minutes for the last few hours and it was wearing thin. He was just as anxious to get the hell out of here as she was but watching the clock wasn’t going to help.
“Come on,” she snapped.
“Granger,” he sighed, trying to remain civil. “Time isn’t going to magically speed up unless you have a time turner hidden in your robes.”
“I’m not wearing robes,” she spat. “And if I was, McGonagall took it from me third year.”
“So you did have one,” he mused. “Always wondered about that.”
“I needed it for class,” she huffed.
He smirked. “Figures. They would let a learning obsessed goody-two-shoes have one.”
“Shut it Malfoy,” she spat. “They should have gotten the message by now.”
“Perhaps the door stopped it.”
“No, I felt it,” she countered.
“Pardon?”
Hermione sighed and shifted against the hard ground. “When you send a patronus to someone, you feel it when they receive it. It’s like a shiver.”
“So who did you send it to?”
“Harry. He’ll come.”
“For all we know, Granger, they could be trying right now. Remember, no one could hear us. It could be the same the other way around.”
“True,” she admitted, squirming again.
“What is your problem Granger? Can you not relax for five bloody minutes?”
Hermione wanted to punch him. It had only been a few hours but the chill in the room and her recent dinner had combined to make her rather uncomfortable and in need of a loo. She’d been silently willing the room to respond for the better part of an hour and had all but given up hope. Malfoy’s irritation with her fidgeting was only making her angrier. In fact, he was glaring now. She’d had enough.
“I need to use the bloody loo, damn it. I’m sorry I’m not proper company right now!”
Draco rubbed the bridge of his nose in irritation. He couldn’t call Granger on that. He was in need of a piss himself. She was probably mortified if the tears in her eyes were any indication. He couldn’t even bring himself to enjoy her misery at the moment. He just wanted out but that didn’t seem to be an option at the moment. Her jerky breathing let him know that she was about to lose it. If it was one thing he did not want, it was to listen to an emotional Granger.
“Look, just go in the corner and then scourgify it,” he growled.
She sniffled again. “That’s disgusting.”
“Do you have a better option Granger?”
“N-no…but-“
“Then get on with it,” he growled. “I’ll turn my back. Just tell me when you’re done.”
Silence followed. He opened one eye to see her trembling, trying desperately to keep still. Damn. He was going to have to be nice again. He hated being nice. It created expectations. Still, she was going to drive him barmy if she didn’t just get it over with. Even he wasn’t cruel enough to berate her for caving to bodily functions.
“Look,” he sighed. “I’ll put up my cloak across a corner so neither one of us can see the other. Would that work?”
Hermione lost the battle with her tears. The pain was almost unbearable now. That coupled with her quickly waning hope and the fact that Malfoy wasn’t ripping her to shreds about it made the dam break. She hated herself for showing weakness in front of Malfoy. He’d surely throw it back in her face and she couldn’t even hex him. She did need to use the loo though…desperately.
“P-please.”
Draco stumbled up from his position on the floor. He hadn’t realized that his arse had gone numb some time ago. Now that he was standing, he realized he needed the loo a lot worse than he’d thought. Well, maybe it was a good thing to get it out of the way. They’d promise to never speak about this again. Granger would go for it, he knew.
He pulled off his cloak, shivering at the rush of cold air that hit him. Granger wasn’t wearing a cloak. She must have been freezing, though she didn’t say anything. That little bluebell flame wasn’t doing a whole hell of a lot of good. He pushed those surprisingly caring thoughts from his head and walked to the far corner. They were occupying the back two and the door was close to another. It would make sense to use this one. Merlin this sucked.
Hermione stood up slowly, breathing through her nose to calm herself. She would just help Malfoy put the cloak up with a sticking charm and then do her business and sourgify everything. It didn’t make it any less embarrassing though. They worked in silence, tacking one side of the cloak at the top and bottom. Before they got to the other, a flash of light appeared.
“What the bloody hell is that?” Draco asked, staring at the piece of pottery that appeared in the corner.
Hermoine’s mouth dropped open. “It’s a chamber pot!”
“Wait, like an old loo?”
She nodded, happy for the small reprieve. At least they wouldn’t have to use the floor now.
“You think the room is starting to respond?” Draco asked hopefully.
“Maybe. It’s a start.”
Draco nodded. It was better than nothing. He tacked the other side of the cloak, leaving the bottom alone so they could enter the shut off corner. It was crude, but private enough to count.
“Hurry up Granger. I’ve got to go too.”
Hermione scampered inside the cloak, surprised at the temperature difference. Malfoy’s body heat still clung to the fabric. It made her wish she had her own even more. Her hands were like ice as she fiddled with her jeans. Maybe the room would let her conjure two fires. She didn’t really relish risking frostbite. She hurried, flushing red when the sounds reverberated around the room. There was nothing for it. Her silencing charms failed. She immediately felt better though.
Draco tried to ignore what was happening, turning his back on the corner. It was one thing to have a bloke down a few urinals, another entirely to know that Granger was half undressed behind a flimsy cloak. It was highly uncomfortable and made him feel a little like a pervert. The sounds of a whispered spell and a rustling cloak caught his attention, though he didn’t dare turn.
“I’m done,” Hermione croaked, slinking back to her corner. She was embarrassed but she felt much better.
Draco nodded and practically sprinted toward the corner. Once inside, he let go, breathing a sigh of relief. He didn’t care how it sounded, or at least tried to ignore it. He could imagine Granger’s virgin ears turning pink with embarrassment. If they were stuck in here for any length of time, they were going to get to know each other a lot more intimately than they ever wanted. It made him shudder.
While Malfoy was taking care of his business, Hermione tried to conjure another flame. It was utterly unsuccessful. Why would the room give them a chamber pot but deny them heat? It was just as essential. Her fingers were going to fall off if she didn’t warm up soon. She tried sticking them closer to the flames, flexing them to keep the blood flowing. This was going to be a miserable experience.
Draco finished, cleaning everything in sight before taking his cloak down. It was great for privacy, but he needed it for warmth too. He could feel the goose bumps on his arms already. If the way Granger was huddled around the fire was any indication, they might be sharing the damned thing…if only to stay warm.
AN: Well, that takes care of the loo. Embarrassing, right? I've decided to go ahead and write about Snape, but he'll be at least ten chapters away. Sorry, but that's just when it fits in. He'll be there though, so never fear. As always, thanks for everyone for reviewing. I made me grin and write some more. Keep them coming and let me know how I'm doing. Until next time... Love you guys!
