Chapter 4- First Dream Lesson
After a long day of chores, a dinner of cold Chinese food Harry collapsed in bed.
He opened his eyes to find himself on the lawn in front of Potter Hall again.
Standing there toying with a wand was Ieson…
"Hullo there Harry. You ready to learn?"
Harry nodded.
"Let's see. You fell asleep with a book. Let me see it would you?"
Harry looked down to see it clenched in his hand and handed it off to the man.
"Years wise I'm older then you. I'm at the teenage part of my cycle. Unless I get burned against my will again I should remain this age for a while." Ieson opened the book, "Charms? First year? Well then let's see where we ought to start…" he flipped through a few pages, "That's a good one. Levitation. This is the wand movement." He slowly moved his wand, "Now the incantation is: Wingardium Leviosa."
A small stone that lay between them on the lawn jumped into the air and floated.
The pronunciation was curious, putting emphasis on parts of the incantation that Harry didn't expect.
Harry swallowed, "How do you get it back to the ground?"
Ieson grinned, "That's easy. Finite."
The stone dropped, well dropped like a stone.
Harry watched the casting of that spell as anxiously as the first. Then he proceeded to do both in quick succession.
Ieson hugged him, "You're a genius…"
Harry blushed.
"Let's try something harder. How about conjuring fire? I think you could do that." Ieson said thoughtfully
Harry bounced up and down on his heels, "How strong is it?"
"As strong as the caster. If you are as strong as I think, very strong indeed. Now I want you set the stone on fire. The incantation is: Incendio."
Harry watched the wand movements and listened to the incantation. Then he repeated it, "Incendio."
The stone burst into flame at once.
And didn't spread…
Harry glanced up at Ieson in surprise, "What?"
"You do have the talent to wield fire." A swish and flick of his wand, "Aguamenti." Water flowed from Ieson's wand to try to put out the fire.
It did not.
Ieson laughed, "Now that is valuable knowledge. It seems that I cannot quench a fire that you begin. You try."
Harry cast the spell and the fire went out.
"Again."
Fire, water, fire, water.
The cycle continued on and on.
"That's enough. Try this: Diffindio." Ieson aimed it at a boulder.
Harry watched in awe at the boulder split it half, "How did you do that?"
Ieson illustrated the wandwork first and then the incantation and then cast the spell over Harry's shoulder so the boy could see better.
Harry nodded learning at once; he aimed his wand at one half of cleaved boulder.
It split again and then he cast it on the other boulder half, it split as well.
"Close your eyes." Ieson said taking his wand hand.
Harry heard the word, 'Confringo' and his hand moved in a particular pattern.
"Cast it together."
Harry repeated both the spell incantation and the wandwork.
He jumped when he heard an explosion.
Harry's eyes flew open.
The boulder they had both cut had exploded into gravel.
"That was impressive. I think you've done well. Tomorrow bring the Transfiguration text. Now for your reward:"
Out of the trees came a woman with red hair and green eyes, her eyes wet with tears.
"Harry…"
Harry knew her, the tone of her voice, the sheen in her eyes and ran.
Familiar arms embraced him.
"Harry…my dear sweet boy. You've grown so much." She knelt rocking him tight. "I love you so much. Your father loved you so much. I can hardly believe we're here together. Oh Harry, I've missed you…I missed so much of your life."
Harry had only vague recollections, dim as dusty cobwebs of this woman holding. "Mum…"
"Yes Harry. Mummy is here. I'll look after you. You might not realize it's me though but I am here for you. A mother's love never dies remember that. It goes on forever. Remember Voldemort isn't dead. Protect yourself but trust your instincts."
"You don't like Hagrid. Why?"
"He worships at Albus' feet. I don't trust anyone who believes everything he says and supports his every choice. Sirius maybe a great fool and sometimes cowardly but he is not a traitor. He is not the man who betrayed us. Albus owns some responsibility for it."
Harry yawned.
Lily lay him down with his head in her lap and gently stroked his hair, before singing.
"Hush little baby don't say a word
Mummy's going to buy you a hummingbird
If that hummingbird flies
Mummy's going to show you the evening sky
If that sky grows dark
Mummy's going buy you a Crup that barks
If that Crup goes away
Mummy's going to take you to the bay
If the water is cold
Mummy's going to buy you a bracelet that's gold
If that gold turns to brass
Mummy's going to take you to run on grass
If that grass is dry
Well you'll still be the sweetest baby in her eye'
Harry drifted off to a sleep without dreams…
His mother maybe gone but she still loved him and that made a difference…
What do you think? Outstanding? Exceeds Expectations? Acceptable? Poor? Dreadful? Troll?
