Classes resumed as normal on Monday and even though they all remembered only too well what had happened in Greeter Hall they had not spoken about it. Lidia threw herself in to her studies and found herself avoiding everyone except for Lanni. She would spend hours with her in the library and then hours after she left in there as well. She would walk to her dorm room alone and go to bed well after and sometimes well before Natasha was in the room. Remus tried to talk to her a few times and had even cornered her a few times to try to find out what was wrong with her. But it was hard to explain something to him that she didn’t understand herself, she left the hall feeling scared for once. Fear was not something that she was well acquainted with, so in order to not feel it she kept her mind occupied with other things. Her classes were doing very well as all her work was perfect and she even worked on homework that had yet to be assigned.
“Lidia” Remus called from the door leading out of the dorm “Come on, wait for me” He jogged over “What are you doing?”
“Oh” She thought for a second “Um. Going to the library”
“Cool” He said “I’ll go with you”
“Well actually” She said, worried “Maybe I was going to go to my room and...shower”
“Then I will go with you there!” He snapped and she turned to look at him.
“I said I was going to shower!” Lidia repeated with a look of horror on her face.
“And I said that I would follow you there” Remus repeated as well “I will follow you everywhere this weekend” He told her “Just talk to me, tell me what’s going on...tell me what’s wrong”
“There’s nothing wrong” She told him feeling a lump forming in her throat “I’m just busy...”
“You don’t talk to me” He pointed out “Natasha is worried because you won’t talk to her either and Scorpius said you don’t talk to him either” He took hold of her arms “You will, however, talk to Lanni and anyone else who wasn’t at Greeter Hall that night”
“I’m just...” She started.
“You’re scared” He finished “What happened that night was fucked up, it shouldn’t have happened and we shouldn’t have separated...you should have never been alone for as long as you were”
“No, Remus” Lidia pulled away from him and started to walk away but he swung her around so that she was staring at him again.
“I won’t allow that to happen again” He promised “We’ll quit that stupid group, we’ll hang out with Natasha and Scorpius outside of the group”
“Remus” Lidia said as he put his hand gently on her cheek and caressed her skin lightly with his thumb.
“I’ll protect you against anything” He promised.
“And I will protect you against anything” Scorpius announced dipping Natasha low to the ground and peppering her neck with kisses.
“Oh Remus!” Natasha said with a breathy voice as she pretended to swoon repeatedly “How I’ve dreamt of your big manly arms...and your even bigger...”
“NATASHA!” Lidia gasped she acted horrified but couldn’t help but smile.
“Are you done being a drama-queen?” Scorpius asked “Because there is only two weeks until the end of this term and then we are all going to your house to party until January”
“And we don’t want you to be all whiny” Natasha finished for him “Come on, let’s go get some food”
“But” Lidia tried but they just continued to push her.
They ended up throwing a blanket down on the grass far away from the dorm building and eating the sandwiches that they had bought from the deli across the street. Natasha laid her head on Scorpius’s lap and was reading one of her Paranormal textbooks, Scorpius was leaning back on his elbows and Remus was reading something that he had snatched from Lidia’s book bag. It was cold outside and yet warmer than it had been the last few days so they wanted to absorb as much good weather as possible before the snow started to fall.
“So we are all going to your house, Lidia?” Natasha asked looking over the top of her book “Because I have spent all my money on my books for next term...I will not be able to buy presents”
“You can’t buy me presents?!” Lidia pretended to look outraged “That’s it...we can’t be friends...I mean I have been friends with you since September only because I thought that you would get me Christmas presents!”
“And she’s only been friends with me because of my amazing arse” Scorpius announced as he picked up a notebook and made a note in it.
“No” Lidia said “I’m friends with Natasha because she’s an amazing person that needs someone to keep her feet on the ground” She smiled when Natasha waved her wand and made herself float in the air “And Malfoy” She glared at him “I’m friends with you out of pity”
“Keep telling yourself that, love” He grinned “But I know that you want my cock”
“I’m sure that I would” She answered and looked at Remus curiously when he snorted at something he was reading, she couldn’t see what book he had in front of his face “If I could find your cock, that is”
“This is a common problem” He said “Women are always getting my cock mixed up as a third leg. But that huge rod between my legs that I have to magically stick to the side of my left leg...that is indeed my cock and that’s only when it’s soft, I can understand you being afraid of it when it’s hard”
“I can assure you” Natasha said with a grin “That is not the case”
“Is this really how you see me?” Remus asked holding out Lidia’s journal to her and raising his eyebrow at her. The page he was on was one of the drawings she had done at some point of him when he was studying in the library. She didn’t think she was very good at drawing and the thought that he was seeing how she saw him made her blush.
“What are you doing looking at my journal?!” She snatched it out of his hands and turned her back to him.
“I just wanted to see what you thought about” He defended himself “And I didn’t realize that it was a journal at the time when I picked it up”
“Jerk” She muttered hiding her red face and wondering how much he had read. She mostly just wrote stupid little thoughts, but there was a page where she had admitted to finding him sexy and wondering what he looked like with...a little less clothing on. She was praying to whatever god was listening (other than her father and uncle maybe) that he hadn’t looked at that page. A bell sounded over the campus and Natasha and Scorpius stood up because their next class was starting even though neither Remus nor Lidia had a class for the rest of the night.
“See you two later” Natasha said winking at Lidia and physically dragging Scorpius away before he could say anything sexual.
“I especially like the parts in that journal” Remus said quietly as they walked away “Where you wrote our names together” He pointed to a heart that had Remus & Lidia written in it and it was surrounded by little words that read Lidia Lupin and she wanted to climb under a rock and die.
“I didn’t mean...” She started but he shushed her, dragging his thumb across her bottom lip. Her breath caught in her throat as he leaned forward and slowly brushed his lips against hers “No!” She pulled back looking at his surprised and hurt expression “No, I can’t do this...I just...Remus I literally just ended a long-term relationship with someone back in August”
“How long-term?” He asked wondering if there was the possibility of beating the bastard up “And who?”
“Kale Weasley” She answered “We were together for about four years”
“What happened?” He asked, leaning back and mentally kicking himself for putting the moves on her.
“He cheated on me” She answered “And I tried to make things even by cheating on him and it was blown completely out of proportion” She sighed “I think he was cheating on me the whole time he was at college that first year, it just hurts”
“I won’t hurt you like that” Remus promised, he moved closer to her again he looked deeply in to her eyes and hoped that she would believe him “I won’t ever hurt you and I won’t allow anyone to hurt you like that again” Lidia pushed herself in to the safety of his arms and clung to him as tightly as possible. She was crying out emotions she hadn’t even realized that she had been feeling until that moment, that moment when he made her feel safe instead of scared and loved instead just tolerated.
“Why did he cheat on me?!” She sobbed in to his shoulder “Why...why wasn’t I good enough...what’s wrong with me?”
“There is nothing wrong with you” He said pulling her back so they could look in to each other’s eyes “He cheated because he was obviously too stupid to realize that what an amazing woman he had right there in his arms. But his loss is my gain” Lidia’s eyes, though still wet with tears and stinging slightly, locked on to his amber eyes and then became entranced with what she saw there.
It was her future. She knew it. His amber eyes seemed to take up all of her vision, his pupils dilated and dragged her in to them. She saw images of their shared past, his reading to her, dancing with her, bringing her swimming and joking with her. It was strung together with images of a life that she wasn’t a part of, his teaching life and living alone and for him he saw her growing up and dating Kale, her fights and victories and all of her failures. He knew what she learned from each experience and how she felt about everything including her mother, someone he used to think was an amazing and loving woman he was now looking at as a villain from a Brothers Grimm story. Lidia saw them together in every sense of the word, he was protecting her, loving her in a way she never thought possible, she saw them fighting impossible fights and winning and always together, she saw them married and she saw herself pregnant. That was when she was suddenly pulled back away from the vision that had been presented to her through his eyes. Her breath caught in her throat and she looked at him in confusion.
“What was that?” She asked.
“I don’t want to tell you” He whispered.
“Werewolf thing?” She asked.
“Yes” He answered.
“Will you tell me at some point?” She asked and he smiled.

“Yes” He leaned forward and kissed her cheek “You are mine now” His whisper was soft, sexual and possessive and it both worried and excited her.

A/N: I hope this was okay. That whole thing with the future and past and all that junk was the whole Mate thing taking over. Next chapter will be Christmas and meeting (re-meeting) the family and all that fun stuff. PLEASE REVIEW.
