“So what do we know about Devon so far?” Luna asked as she munched on some toast and eggs the next morning.
“Not much. Don't get crumbs on my bed,” she told Luna as they discussed last night. “We know that he lives alone, and he is a really good kisser.”
“And he has incredible hands. I can still feel them on me,” Luna said dreamily as she rolled over on her stomach.
“He obviously knew us. Maybe not well, but we have met before,” Hermione said as she thought back to the conversations they had.
“He could have been pretending that he knew us. He really didn't seem to know too much, just the basics. We filled him on the rest.”
“We really can't judge him on his appearance, he could have been wearing a glamour,” Hermione said.
“So basically we have nothing to go on,” Luna sighed in defeat.
“Don't give up yet,” Hermione said with determination.
They sat in silence for a few moments before Hermione sat straight up in bed with an idea. “Why don't we just ask Mr and Mrs Malfoy? They knew everyone who was there. They should be able to tell us who he is.”
“What are we waiting for?” Luna said as she bounced off the bed and headed towards the door.
“Ah, Luna maybe we should get dressed first?” Hermione suggested.
“Oh,” Luna said looking down at her naked body. “That would probably be helpful. I should probably take a shower,” she said as went into the bathroom. “Are you coming,” she called out to Hermione.
Hermione jumped off the bed, she didn't need to be told twice.

Hermione and Luna arrived at Malfoy Manor just past noon. A house-elf led them into the sitting room where Narcissa was waiting for them.
“What can I do for you today, girls. Would you like some tea?”
“No thank you. We have a question. Who was the person we won at the auction?” Hermione asked, getting right to the point.
Narcissa started to laugh. So hard, in fact that Lucius stormed into the sitting room wondering why his wife was laughing so uncontrollably that he heard it all the way in his study.
“Didn't you have your date last night?”
“Yes,” Both Hermione and Luna said sheepishly.
“Didn't you recognize him?” Narcissa asked.
“Well you see, he was still wearing his mask and he wouldn't tell us who he was.”
It was Lucius turn to start laughing. “He didn't reveal his identity to you? Wow, I never thought he would do that.”
“Who is he?” Hermione demanded.
“Oh no, you will not get that information out of us. You two have to figure it for yourselves,” Narcissa said as she stood up.
“Thanks a lot,” Hermione grumbled.
“You two are smart, capable witches. I'm sure you will figure it out before the deadline.”
“How did you know about the deadline?” Luna asked suspiciously.
“Owls travel fast,” Narcissa smirked. “Good luck.”
“Maybe you two shouldn't gloat about knowing who the guests are. It's biting you in the bum now,” Lucius gave them sly smile.
“Unbelievable!” Hermione said in a frustrated voice as they left the manor.
“Do we really gloat about knowing who the guests are? I don't remember gloating,” Luna said in a quiet voice.
“I think word got around. We did not hide the fact that we knew who people were,” Hermione said.
“What was the big deal? It's not like we pointed them out at the party and yelled out their identity,” Luna said.
“I don't know, maybe we never guessed the right person,” Hermione suggested.
“What do you mean?” Luna asked intrigued.
“Maybe this is someone who has always been there, but we never tried to guess who he was.” Hermione shrugged.
“I think I would remember him,” Luna said.
“Are you sure? There are a lot of people who attend the balls every year.” Hermione pointed out.
“We need to sit down and start narrowing down who he could possibly be,” Luna suggested.
“Where do we start?” Hermione asked.
“With lunch, at the Leaky Cauldron, I'm starving,” Luna said with a laugh.
After lunch, Luna and Hermione sat down and tried to narrow the list down.
“I can guarantee that it’s not Ron or Harry, but I'm not sure who it could be. We are going to have to ask everyone we see.”
“That is a lot of work,” Luna exclaimed.
“Why don't we start making list and go from there,” Hermione suggested.
“You and lists,” Luna joked.
“You will be thanking me after we solve this,” Hermione said.
They made a list of all potential people to interview. They decided to start with some of there former classmates.
They thought it would be best if they split up and cover more people that way. They wanted to figure this little mystery out fast.
Hermione started with former Gryffindors, while Luna went to former Ravenclaws, they split the list of Hufflepuffs. They figured that would have a coin toss to figure out who would ask former Slytherins. Both Luna and Hermione hoped it wasn't any of them.
Luna visited with a few friends first. She discovered that very few of them were even at the ball, let alone entered into the date auction. They thought it would be a waste of time. By the end of the afternoon, Luna had hit several dead ends and had very sore feet. She had hoped Hermione was getting somewhere with the investigation.
Hermione was not having much luck either. Although a lot more Gryffindors had been at the party then she had suspected. Both Jordan Lee, and Oliver Wood admitted to being there, but they had not signed up for the date auction. Although Hermione did find out that she did dance with Oliver Wood half of the night.
“So you and Luna are starting the guessing game?” Oliver asked Hermione.
Hermione laughed. “Yes, but for entirely different reason this year,” she said in a hurry as she was leaving his flat.
“Trying to find someone,” Oliver smirked.
“Yes, but not you, sorry. Hey, do you by chance wouldn't know who was in the charity date auction?”
“Ah so that's it. You have no idea who you bid on. I'm sure you will figure it out,” he said with a smile.
“Thanks,” she said with a sarcastic tone as she left. “Does everyone know,” she whispered.
“Nothing. You?” Hermione asked Luna when they met back at the flat.
“No, although I did get a lot of offers for dates if I can't find Devon,” Luna said as she sat down on the couch.
“Okay we need a break; let’s eat and figure out who we need to interview next.”
Hermione decided to bite the bullet and contacted Draco. Although they had put their differences aside, they still liked to pick fights. She went into work early on Monday and talked with him.
“So you think your dream date was little old me?” Draco said, batting his eyes at Hermione.
Hermione snorted, “No, not particularly, but I needed to make sure,” she said.
“Well it wasn't me. Although you do know who he is. I'm surprised you haven't figured it out. I thought you were smart,” Draco said as he twirled around in his office chair.
“So I do know him?”
“Well, yes I'm pretty sure. You need to find the right person to talk to. Once you do that it will be pretty obvious.”
“Thanks for the tip,” Hermione said sarcastic.
“I think you and Luna can figure it out, but to help you out I will tell you that you are way off in your search.”
“Thanks Draco,” Hermione said even more confused then when she walked into his office.

“I'm about to give up!” Hermione said, throwing her arms up in frustration. It was Wednesday and she and Luna were no close to finding out whom Devon was.
“Have you tried people you didn't think of,” Remus suggested as he closed another book and scribbled some notes down in this book.
“No, because I wouldn't have thought of them,” Hermione laughed.
Remus laughed at himself. “Yes I could see that as a problem.”
“Luna and I questioned everyone we knew who we thought was at the ball, obviously we missed someone. There were only five men in that auction. How hard is it to find one of them?”
“Did anyone admit to being in the auction?” Remus asked curiously.
“A few, Zacharias Smith, Ernie Macmillan, and Terry Boot. There are still two that we haven't found.”
“Are you sure they were not your Devon?”
“No, Draco said we were way off.” Hermione looked at Remus thoughtfully. “Remus, by chance was you there at.... “
“No. Sorry I was not in the auction, or even at the ball for that matter, it was the last day of the full moon.”
Hermione coloured in embarrassment. “Sorry, I forgot all about the moon phase.”
“Well hopefully I won't have to worry about it too much longer.”
“If I can ever isolate the werewolf and shifter gene,” Hermione said aggravated.
“We will get it, it just takes time,” Remus said calmly.
Hermione was thinking. “Draco said we were way off.”
“You said that already,” Remus said.
“We talked to a lot of people,”
“Okay, who did you talk to,” Remus asked.
Hermione brought out her list at all the names that were crossed off and showed it to Remus. Remus looked over the list.
Remus' eyebrows rose. “Wow, this is a very long list.”
“I know. Oh I just had a scary thought, what if Malcom is Devon?” Hermione said in horror.
“Wasn't he drunk in muggle London?” Remus said.
“Yes! Thank the gods! I almost had a panic attack.”
Remus smiled and looked over the list again. “Did you talk to Ron or Harry?” Remus asked, noticing that both of their names were not on the list.
“No, Ron will not set foot in Malfoy Manor and Harry will not go anywhere without Ginny, and we all know she is about to give birth at any moment.”
“Okay, so they weren't there, but maybe they know who was? Maybe someone you haven't thought of?” Remus suggested.
“Why didn't we think of that?” Hermione said in awe.
“You were so focused on finding Devon you didn't think to ask people who weren't there,” Remus said.
Hermione sent an owl to Luna to tell her what she was going to do. Then she sent an owl to Ron and Harry. She got a response back from both of them within an hour.
“Oh, they are all meeting at Molly's for a family dinner tonight. Molly wants me to come.”
“That would be the perfect time to talk to everyone. Maybe you can get this figured out by tonight,” Remus said.
“Hopefully, then I might be able to concentrate on my work, instead of a guy. That is not like me.”
“No it's not, but it's been fun to watch,” Remus laughed.
“Glad someone has been enjoying it.”
“Are you telling me that you and Luna haven't enjoyed yourselves a little in this hunt to find Devon?”
Hermione thought for a moment and a slow smile spread across her face. “It has been a little fun, but I thought we would have figured it out by now.”
“Talk to Ron and Harry, maybe that can give you some name that you didn't think of,” Remus said.
Hermione smiled at her co-worker. “Thanks, Remus. Now let’s get back to work before Severus comes down here and yells at us for talking during class,” she chuckled.
Remus laughed, “I wouldn't put it past him.”

After work Hermione and Luna Apparated to the Weasley's.
“Hermione! Luna! It's so good to see you; it has been way too long since you two joined us for dinner.” Molly hugged each of them as she ushered them into the house.
“Thank you for inviting us.” Luna said.
“Oh you two never need an invitation, you are welcome here any time,” Molly said with a smile.
Hermione smiled when Ginny greeted them. More like wobbled over to them. She was very round with the newest edition to the Weasley family. “You look so beautiful, Ginny!”
“You’re sweet, but I am miserable. I can't wait till I finally have this baby,” Ginny said as she sat down in a big comfy chair.
“You’re going to be a wonderful mum,” Luna said.
“How's Harry?”
“He is more nervous then he is letting on. He and Ron are upstairs with George and Fred.”
“Those four together are a very dangerous combination,” Hermione said.
“Especially since Percy and Charlie are in town.” Ginny laughed. “It's like they are back at Hogwarts, except Percy doesn't have a stick up his bum anymore.”
Luna and Hermione both looked at each other. “Charlie and Percy are both here? How long have they been here?” Luna asked causally.
“Percy arrived almost two weeks ago and Charlie just a few days,” Ginny said as she shifted in her chair, trying to find a comfortable position.
“I wonder,” Luna whispered to Hermione.
“Maybe, but I want to observe first. We don't know, it could be either one of them,” Hermione whispered.
“What are you two whispering about?” Ginny asked with a smile.
“Oh we, well...”Hermione began.
“Dish, tell me!” Ginny demanded.
“Well...”
“Just tell me, the only conversations I have lately are what colour is the nursery, and if I am going to I am going to go with a family name,” Ginny said slightly depressed.
“We kind of bought a date at the Malfoy Charity auction, and we have no idea who he is,” Hermione said quietly as she sat down.
Ginny shook her head. “What?”
Luna sat down nodding her head yes.
Well just wait for the date and just try not to act surprised,” Ginny laughed.
“We already had the date; he was wearing a mask...” Luna explained.
“And we are pretty sure he was wearing a glamour.” Hermione finished.
Ginny started laughing, so much that she started to clutch her stomach. “You two are going to make me go into labour!”
“Dinner will be ready in two minutes!” Molly yelled. “Hermione and Luna, would you be dears and help me set the table?” Molly asked when she came into the living room.
“Of course.” Luna said.
“Why are you laughing so much, Ginny?” Molly asked.
Ginny shook her head and pointed at Hermione and Luna, unable to stop laughing long enough to answer her mum's question.
“Apparently we are very amusing,” Hermione said as she and Luna got up and left Ginny to help set the table.
It sounded like a herd of hippogriffs coming down the stairs, as Harry and four Weasley men came running down the steps.
“Hermione! Luna! When did you get here?” George and Fred said as the bounced down the stairs.
“Just now! So good too see you,” Luna said as she hugged Fred.
“Where have you been, we haven't seen you in a month!” George said to Hermione as he gave her a hug.
“Work,” Hermione smiled.
“I heard that Remus is working for you now. That must help,” Fred said giving her a hug.
“Yes a lot, I'm not doing most of the work myself now,” Hermione said.
“I can see you’re already less stressed,” George said.
“Hermione, good to see you,” Percy said as he gave her a little kiss on the cheek.
“Luna, always a pleasure to see you,” he said as he hugged her.
Hermione and Luna looked at each other.
“Okay, everyone let’s sit. Charlie, Bill and Fleur should be here any minutes now,” Molly said, as she and Arthur started putting bowls of food on the table. No sooner then she said that when Bill, Fleur, Victorie and Charlie walked in the door.
“Oh good, we are just about to start,” Molly said as plucked her granddaughter out of Bill's hands and gave her a big kiss on the cheek.
Hermione wasn't sure how Molly managed to squeeze everyone around the dining table, but she did.
Hermione and Luna both observed Charlie and Percy throughout dinner. Taking in their subtle gestures, and how they talk. It was hard to figure out if one of them was their mystery date, if it even was one of them.
After dinner, Luna and Hermione still weren't sure, but they had an inkling it was one of them, or maybe they were just getting desperate to find him.
It wasn't until everyone was saying goodbye that they figured it out.
Hermione and Luna were getting ready to Apparate when Charlie came out and gave Hermione her handbag that she accidentally forgot to grab.
“Oh thank you, Charlie, I can't believe I almost forgot it.”
“You’re welcome, you ladies have a wonderful evening now, it was great seeing you again.” He smiled as he Apparated.
“It's Charlie!” both Luna and Hermione said.
Luna and Hermione ran back inside. “Where is Charlie staying?” Hermione asked Ron.
“He is renting out a little cottage.”
Both Hermione and Luna looked at each other. “Where!”
