When Christmas Eve arrived, Severus was a little worried. “Are you sure they will be fine with it?” He was pacing as she sat calmly with her parents at their house.
Jean Granger smiled and stood up to hold him still. “I know Harry will be fine with it. Remus sent a letter saying he was fine with it. If Ronald has a problem with it, then he can go bugger himself.” She smiled and pushed him into a seat facing away from the door. “Now sit your ass down!”
Bill Granger laughed at the dumbstruck look on the man's face. “She doesn't like pacers.” He smirked when Hermione nodded. “She also doesn't like when someone worries too much, even though she does it all the time.” He ducked when his wife swatted at him. “You will get used to it Severus.” the man jumped up when the doorbell rang. “That will be them.”
Hermione smirked and went to sit on Severus's lap. “Just relax. Harry will once he sees it is you. Ron, I'm not sure about. He may be fine with you being around and civil but it's Ron.” She squeezed his hand as her dad returned with the two boys and Remus. “Hello!” She got up and gave them each a hug. “Harry, Ron, he's here. If you have a problem with who it is, then you can turn right back around and leave once you see who it is.”
“Hermione, we will be fine. As long as you are happy and trust him.” Ron smiled at her. “Do you trust him?” He watched her walk back around the chair and sit on the arm.
Hermione grinned down at the man. “Ron, I trust him with my life. You and Harry can too.” She waved them over.
“Hello.” Severus smirked when Harry burst out laughing and Ron just gaped like a fish. “Well, that was a better reaction than I expected.”
Harry shook his head. “I had a feeling who it was. After that day at the school, I thought back on Remus's reactions and thought about who he would know that would fit with her. You were the only one who came to mind.” He smirked at them. “It's awesome.” He gave Hermione a hug. They then both looked at Ron.
Ron shook his head. “It makes sense.” He smiled and shrugged before pulling Hermione into a hug. “He's honestly about the only one I would trust to make sure you are in good hands.”
“Thanks Ron.” Hermione smiled down at the man and took his hand. “It actually started that day you know. We were talking and it just went from there. We were talking about how I could get your mum to stop with her pushing. Just don't tell her who it is. We will make you take a vow if it will help.” When he nodded vigorously, they laughed. “Sev?” The man nodded and quickly cast the vow spell.
Severus then leaned back and pulled her down to his lap. “Now that we have that taken care of, what's next?”
Harry grinned. “Presents!” He pulled out a shrunken bag. “Sev, I wasn't sure if you wanted yours tonight or not but brought it anyway since I will be staying at the Weasley's tonight.”
“Now is fine. I brought yours as well.” He smiled and let Hermione get everyone's gifts sorted. He then began opening his gifts as they did the same. He froze at the gift from Hermione. He looked up to see them all watching him. “How did you manage this?” He fingered the dragon hide vest and felt a soft liner to protect his shirts from the dragon hide. “This is amazing.”
Hermione grinned. “I had some help from Charlie, Madame Malkin, and Flitwick. It's spelled to fit over whatever clothing you have on that day and will be good when teaching the more dangerous potions, as well as when making them.”
Remus nodded. “Being dragon hide, it will help protect against many spells your enemies may try.” He chuckled. “It may come in handy once word gets out about you two.”
“I'm sure it will.” Severus shook his head before pulling her into a quick kiss. “Thank you.”
She grinned and turned back to her gifts. Her gasp got the others looking again. “Colin got a picture!” She grinned and showed her parents the throw with the picture of the two of them together in their Christine and Phantom costumes. “I will have to thank him once school is back.” She smiled and gave Severus a hug. “It's perfect! Thank you.”
Harry laughed. “Open mine next, you will be pretty shocked again.” When she quickly opened his, she stared. “Severus helped me collect the skin. It has a layer of dragon hide underneath and is reversible.” He smirked when she launched at him with the shiny green cloak. The opposite side was a dark red. When her parents looked at it, he smiled. “Basilisk skin and dragon hide. It will protect against the elements and can be worn under or over another cloak.”
“Sounds like a good idea.” Jean smiled and returned to her gifts. She shared a surprised look with her husband when they opened their gifts from the boy. “Harry, is this what I think it is?” She pulled out a small clutch and a small purse. The material was a shiny green. Her husband had a shiny dark green wallet and an umbrella of the same material.
Harry nodded. “They are spelled to protect them against the elements. The umbrella would be one of those bigger ones that will cover both of you.” He smirked at them. “They should not wear out for you either. If anyone asks what it is made of, tell them it is a treated alligator skin.”
Bill nodded and smiled. “They are amazing Harry. Thank you.” His wife nodded. They turned to Ron who was opening the gift they had given him. “Ronald, we weren't sure what to get you since we don't know you as well. But Harry and Hermione said you should love it.”
Ron grinned when he saw what they had gotten him. “They told me about these!” He laughed as he looked it over. It was a Rubik's cube, magic 8 ball, and a matchbox car that let you open the doors and trunk. “My dad will have a heart attack when he sees these.”
Harry laughed with the others. “Just wait until he opens his gift from Hermione and me. We got him a collection of stuff, including those three!” He shook his head and they all returned to their gifts. Once they were all unwrapped, he looked up at the Grangers. “Hey mum, did you make any of those oatmeal cookies? I told these two they need to try them.”
“I did!” Jean smiled and uncovered the tray of cookies on the coffee table. “We also made chocolate chip, sugar, and lemon cookies. We also have a plate to take with you to the Weasleys. Severus and Hermione will have a tin of the oatmeal for you at his manor.”
“Awesome!” He grinned at her and handed the two an oatmeal cookie. “Just don't take too many of the lemon ones.”
“Why not?” Remus looked over to see Hermione and Severus each with a lemon cookie. “Oh.” He laughed when Hermione blushed. She had a plate of lemon cookies in front of the,. “Someone's favorite.”
“We both happen to like lemon cookies.” Severus chuckled and took another one. “Just don't tell Albus or he will keep pushing those lemon sherbets at me.” He shuddered. “Those things are horrible.”
“They taste like a lemon sherbet but only hard.” Harry shook his head. “Not right at all.” He smirked at them. “For Christmas I sent him a few boxes of lemonheads, cinnamon hearts, and those good and plenty candies.”
“Oh he will love them!”Remus laughed as Bill Granger motioned them to the table. “Wow, this looks amazing!” He turned to the Grangers. “You two did all this?”
Hermione grinned. “They are both very good cooks.” She sat down next to Severus and they quickly dug in. Later, only she and Severus were the ones left. As they put their jackets on, she smiled at her parents. “Thanks. Enjoy the day tomorrow. You will still come for New Year's right?”
“Of course!” Jean smiled and pulled them each into a hug. “You two be safe out there. Severus, you take good care of her.” She smiled when he nodded and moved so her husband could hug them both. “We will see you on New Year's Eve!” They nodded and Severus popped them back to his manor.
Severus sighed and shook his head as he set their gifts down. Molly had knitted him a black and green scarf. “At least Molly didn't make one of those sweaters for me. I can tolerate the scarf.”
“She had strict instructions of no clothes.” Hermione laughed as he took her coat and hung it with his. “I told her that you were picky about your clothes and a scarf would be better.”
“Thank you for that.” He smiled and pulled her in for a quick kiss. “Now, what do we want to do?” He jumped as Ava popped in with 2 small boxes. “What are these?”
Ava handed one to each of them. “They arrived right after Master left to Grangers.” She smiled up at them. “Ava find no spells.”
Severus nodded and smiled. “Thanks Ava.” the elf nodded and popped out. “Well, let's see what we have.” They quickly headed to the sitting room and opened the boxes. They each contained a small medallion and a rolled up parchment. He unrolled the parchment in his and read it. “Wow, the Merlin Award for Potions. Only 3 Potions Masters have ever received one. Until now.”
Hermione grinned as she read her parchment. “Now there are 4 and me.” She smiled up at him. “This should help with my mastery shouldn't it?”
Severus nodded. “Absolutely. I could certify you for it today if you so choose.” He held up a hand at her frown. “I know you want to do it the regular was so I won't.” He took her medal and set them both down before pulling her in for a much deeper kiss. “I think we should celebrate.” He summoned 2 glasses and a bottle of wine. He then led her to the ballroom for some dancing.
When they returned to the school, Minerva was waiting for them at the gates. Hermione grinned at her. “Did you have a nice holiday? We did.” She still had her hand in his and saw the older woman look down at the hands. “Yes, it is what you are thinking.”
“That is wonderful news!” Minerva smiled at them. “Though I wish you had told me.” She laughed and pulled them into quick hugs before taking Severus's face in her hands. “Your mum would be happy for you.” She smiled and released him when he flushed. “Now come along. Be prepared for a lot of questions at supper.” They nodded and followed her up to the school and headed for their rooms.
At supper, the two were indeed pressed for information. Hermione held a hand up and waited for it to get quiet. “It is still new and I would appreciate it if everyone were to just not make a big deal out of it. We also ask that nobody really make it a public thing for now. We will let it slowly out into the open when we are ready.” When they all nodded, she sighed and turned to Poppy's raised hand. “Yes?”
Poppy smiled at her. “I just wanted to say that we are all happy for you.” When the two nodded, she smirked. “Also, we will need to discuss some potions. We had an incident a couple days ago that almost used up the healing cream.”
Severus turned to Hagrid. “Your animals again? Or someone else?”
Hagrid laughed.”Both I guess Perfessor. I was helping the centaurs hunt down a wounded unicorn. We found it in a patch that had some mighty big thorns. We used it on the unicorn, myself, and 2 centaurs.”
Severus nodded. “We will make some tomorrow.” He returned to eating his supper. The others did the same. He smiled at Hermione when she slid her hand onto his thigh as they ate.
The students returned the following afternoon and things quickly got back to normal. As Valentine's Day grew closer, he got more excited for the dance. They were having a masquerade ball again and he and Hermione had amazing costumes planned. The dance was on February 13 because that was the Saturday date. A week before the dance, he was walking to his classroom with Hermione when she suddenly dashed ahead and grabbed a quill and piece of parchment from his desk. “What have you thought of now?”
She grinned as she finished her arithmancy problems. “I think I may have figured out how to strengthen the effectiveness of our potion.” She smirked and looked up at him as he joined her at his desk. “If we strengthen it at each stage with certain spells, we may be able to double or triple its effectiveness.” She laughed and gathered her things. “I will work on the spells needed while you teach your class.” He nodded as she headed for her desk near his office door. The students soon began to wander into class.
On February 13, she was just putting her headpiece in place with a spell when he knocked on her door. “Come in!” She smiled as Severus quickly entered and turned to her. “Wow, you look just like a knight. My own Sir Lancelot.”
He smirked and bowed to kiss her hand. “Lady Guinevere.” He grinned as he straightened. “Shall we?” He held his arm out to her. He led her down to the Hall and smiled when everyone turned to look at them when they entered. “Another success.”
Hermione laughed as they walked up to the rest of the staff. “I think they were shocked to see you smile.” She grinned at their nods. “But I do believe we agai9n shocked everyone.”
“I think that is beginning to be customary for the two of you.” Poppy smiled as Remus joined them dressed as a jester. “Whose idea was it this time?”
“His.” Hermione grinned at them. “I am doing the Halloween costumes.”
Remus smiled as they watched the students. “I have heard some students talking. They are suspicious.” He motioned to Ginny. “There is your biggest supporter though. She keeps trying to tell everyone to mind their own business. She knows doesn't she?”
“She does.” Hermione smiled at him. “She is keeping it a secret though.” She grinned when Severus held a hand out to her for a dance. “See you later Remus. We are going to give them some more gossip ideas.” She smirked when he laughed.
Severus smirked when they started to dance. “I have a feeling that it will be like this for a few years, if we are still together that long.”
She nodded. “That's because they are used to the snarky, almost invisible Professor Snape. They don't know what to make of the dancing, mingling, and smirking Snape.” When the song ended, she smiled at him. “I'm going to go talk to Ginny for a few minutes.” He nodded and watched her head over to her friend.
Ginny smiled as Hermione joined her. “I love the costumes. He did an amazing job with the idea.”
Hermione smiled. “Thanks, I will tell him you said so.” She looked over at her friend's date. “How are things with you and Devon?”
Ginny smiled and looked over at the Ravenclaw. “It's going good. He is nice and hasn't tried anything except holding my hand.” She laughed and looked at her friend. “He's way different than Dean. Much better actually.”
Hermione nodded and looked over to see Severus motion her over. “That's great Ginny. I have to get back to my own date.” She smirked at the girl. “Just to warn you. Be prepared for a shocker later. If anyone asks, just tell them we ask only for our privacy.”
Ginny nodded. “Tell him I said to make it worth your while.” She laughed as Hermione smacked her arm and headed over to Severus.
“Do I have to ask what that smack was for?” Severus smirked when Hermione blushed. “Ok, I'll bite. What did she say this time?”
Hermione grinned at him. “She said to tell you that she said to make it worth my while.”
“Oh, I'm sure I will.” He smirked before heading off to do a round of shadow and corner checks. He saw her blush as she followed him. She followed him around nervously. “Are you ok?” He paused after checking down another hall.
“A little nervous but its about what the older kids may say or do.” She shrugged and bit her lower lip as they continued on. “It shouldn't really matter though because they are still afraid of you and I can easily remind them what I can do to them. Plus, anyone who has a problem with it can sod off.”
Severus nodded as they returned to the room and opened the door to continue the search for errant students. “That's the most important .” He smirked as they finished up and met up with Remus. “Just make sure they see what you have planned.”
Hermione nodded. as Remus laughed. “I trust Ginny to rein in most of the Gryffindors.”
As the dance wound down, the song they asked to be played at the end finally started. Severus led her out to the dance floor for a waltz. Only a couple others were dancing. Everyone else was too busy watching them. As Ginny and her date waltzed past them, the girls shared a smile. At the end, he led her towards the door, handing her two slips of paper as they walked. “By the way, Happy Valentine's Day.”
Hermione looked at the paper as they reached the doors and froze, pulling him to a stop. They were VIP tickets to see the Phantom of the Opera. “Oh my gods! Thank you!” She grinned up at him and hugged him before kissing him soundly on the lips.
He smirked and quickly pulled her through the doors. “I think you got your point across my dear.” He led her to her rooms. “They were definitely shocked.”
She kept glancing at the tickets with a grin as she opened the door to her rooms. “I can't believe you got tickets. I thought they were all sold out!” She looked up at him when he closed the door behind them.
“I got them the day they went on sale, thanks to your mum.” He laughed at her look. “I gave her the money so she could get them. Though you get to choose where to have supper before the show.”
Hermione grinned and kissed him lightly. “That is amazing. Thank you.” She pulled back and summoned a glass for each of them. “Have a drink with me?” He nodded and sat down while she poured them each a glass of wine. When she looked back up at him and handed him a glass, she frowned at the odd look on his face. “What's wrong?”
“Nothing.” He smiled and looked at her. “Have I told you how lucky I am?” When she shook her head, he reached up and ran a hand along her cheek. “I'm the luckiest man in the world to have you. I don't know how I could manage any longer without you.” He frowned when he saw tears forming in her eyes. “What's wrong?”
“You really mean that?” When he nodded, she let the tears fall. “Nobody has ever said anything like that to me. It means a lot.” She felt him pull her into a hug and over onto his lap.
“I mean it Hermione.” He smiled and kissed her forehead. “You and your friends have completely changed my life for the better.”
She smiled at him shyly. “Severus, would you stay with me tonight?” When he stiffened, she laid a hand on his cheek and made him look at her. “Just to hold me, that's all.”
He looked at her for a moment and nodded. “I just have to get a few things.” He let her move so he could stand up and headed for the floo. “I will be back in about 10 minutes.” She nodded and he let the fire carry him to his rooms. He quickly gathered what he needed for the following day and took the floo back to her rooms. She was still sitting on the couch but now held an empty glass. He finished his and turned to her. “After you.” He followed her into her bedroom, noticing that it was pretty similar to his, except in color. “I will change while you use the bathroom.” She nodded and headed to the bathroom with her things. He quickly changed. Leaning against the wall by the door, he waited for her.
Hermione smiled when she returned to her bedroom. Severus was wearing a tee shirt with the name of the band Police. “I never pictured you as a tee shirt person.”
He smirked as she walked up to him. Running a finger over the little ruffle along the hem of her tank top, he shook his head. “I half expected to see you in one of those long gowns. I do admit that I prefer this over that.” He looked down to see she had on short shorts. “Those aren't worn in public are they?”
She shook her head. “Just for sleeping and lounging about the house when I'm alone.” She ran a finger across the band's name on his tee. “I think I like this look on you. A tee and lounge pants are completely opposite of what one would expect from you. It's a good look on you.” She led him to the bed and climbed in.
He smiled as he climbed in behind her. “Like you, these are just for sleeping and lounging around the house alone.” He pulled the blankets up and turned to face her. He smiled and pulled her over against him. “Goodnight Hermione.”
She smiled and kissed him lightly before sliding an arm over his chest. She then lay her head on his shoulder. “Goodnight Severus.” She smiled when he wrapped his arm around her waist and held her close.
He smiled at her mumble. He lightly kissed the top of her head and closed his eyes. For the first time in his life, he felt content and happy. When he awoke in the morning, he smiled when he realized she was still asleep. He moved slowly so he could look at her. He lightly rubbed her back as she slept.
Hermione woke up to a slow breath on her shoulder. His hand was lightly rubbing back and forth on her back. She smiled and opened her eyes, seeing his dark brown eyes looking back at her. “Good morning.”
“Good morning.” He smiled when she snuggled up against him. “Did you sleep well?”
“The best sleep I've had in a while. How about you?” She smiled back up at him and received a light kiss.
“The same.” He pulled her closer and grinned. “I haven't slept that well in years.” He motioned to a small table set up nearby. “Ava usually brings me a special breakfast on Valentine's Day. She brought enough for two.”
She smiled and sat up. “It looks delicious.” She let him pull her up and over to the table. “I know where I want to have supper.” At his questioning glance, she smiled. “The Italian restaurant that is right down the street from the theater.”
“I'll make the reservation then.” He smiled as they dug into their food. They stopped momentarily when an owl tapped on her window. Once she spelled the window open, it flew to him. He retrieved the letter and fed it a piece of biscuit. He opened the letter and read it, his face going pale. “Great.”
“What is it?” She took the letter he handed to her and quickly read it. “After all that, they still want to put you on trial?” She reached over and placed her hand on his. “You know Harry and I will be there for you, as will the others.”
He nodded and finished his breakfast. “I need to tell Albus. He has a week to find someone to take my classes for at least a week.” He headed back to the bed and quickly got dressed.
She nodded as an idea popped into her head. “Go tell him. I will owl Harry and have him tell Draco.” She followed him to the fireplace and grabbed his hand before he could floo away. “Sev, it will be fine. We won't let anything happen to you.”
He nodded and kissed her lightly. “We will get through this Mio.” He grinned when she smiled at her new nickname. “I will see you at lunch.” She nodded and he was whisked away.
She sighed and got a quick shower before penning a letter to Harry. She then headed to the owlery to send it off. She focused on getting her outfit ready for that night before heading to lunch. She caught up with Ginny and smirked when the girl gave any gawkers a glare. She cast a silencing spell around them. “There is a problem and I need your help.” Once they reached the Great Hall, she ended the spell and swept up to the head table. Sitting down, she leaned towards Minerva.”I need to speak to you tomorrow after classes.”
Minerva nodded with a frown. “Of course. Is anything wrong?”
“Yes and no.” Hermione smiled as Severus and Albus entered through the staff entrance. “Everything is fine but I want to discuss something.” She motioned with her eyes to the two men as they approached the table. “I want to talk to you about becoming an animagus.”
Minerva nodded and sat back as they took their seats. “Of course dear, we can discuss animagus training after classes tomorrow.” She winked at the girl. “Maybe even Severus could help you with clearing your mind for it.”
“I can help with that.” He smiled at her. “I took the classes but never finished. Maybe I will finally get to become one.” He turned back to Hermione. “I made a reservation for 5.” She nodded and took another sip of her tea.
She grinned at him and finished her lunch. “I am going to go write my parents. Come get me at 4.” She leaned over to kiss his cheek. “See you then!” She stood up and headed out the staff entrance. The rest of the staff laughed quietly when he smirked. He quickly ate his lunch and headed off to his office.
Hermione grinned when she reached her rooms. She wasn't planning on writing her parents. “Ava!” She smiled when the elf popped in. “First, thank you for breakfast. It was delicious. Second, I need to ask a favor. It's to surprise Severus.”
“Ava gladly help Miss!” The elf smiled up at her.
“Could you take me to my parents” I need to discuss something with them. You can join us or you can go back home until I need to come back.” She smiled at the elf. “Is that ok?”
The elf nodded. “Ava go with miss. I will stay unless master calls.” When Hermione nodded, she took the girl's hand and popped them out. Around 3 in the afternoon, the duo popped back into Hermione's rooms.
“Thanks Ava.” Hermione smiled as the elf nodded and bowed before popping out. She pulled a small box from her pocket and placed it on her dresser. “Thanks Grand-mum.” She began to get ready. Around 4, she heard her floo activate and Severus call out to her. “I will be right out.! She smirked when he said ok. She took the necklace out of the box and put it on. “Perfect.” She peeked out to see him sitting in a chair with his back to her. “I'm ready.” She moved to stand in her sitting room.
Severus stood up and turned around. His jaw slacked and he froze when he saw her. “ You look beautiful.” She was wearing a flowing navy blue dress that looked like water flowing over her. What drew his attention from her gown was the necklace she had on. He walked up to her and ran a finger over the pendant. It was a silver celtic knot that had a sapphire colored S in it with black eyes. “Where did you get that necklace? It is amazing.”
She smiled as he looked back down at it. “It was my grandmother's. Her name began with an s and she liked snakes.”
He smiled and kissed her lightly before leading her over to her cloak. “I meant what I said. You look beautiful.”
She smiled as he helped her with her cloak. “You look handsome.” She smiled and ran a hand over his charcoal gray jumper. “It's so soft!” She ran a hand over his chest and grinned. “I like this color on you.” She stepped back so he could put his cloak on, then took his arm before heading out the door. Luckily there were only a few students who saw them, all members of the DA. They smiled and nodded as the couple passed.
It was late and after curfew when they returned. She smiled as he helped her with her cloak. “Thank you Sev. It was an amazing evening. I enjoyed it.”
He nodded and kissed her hand. “I too enjoyed it. I am glad you did as well.”
She rolled her eyes. “Would you stop being so proper and kiss me already?” She shocked him by pulling on his arms until she could kiss his lips.
He was so surprised by her strength that he fell against her and knocked them both off their feet. She was kissing him as they fell over onto the couch. He pulled back to look down at her. “Are you ok?”
“I'm fine.” She smirked and pulled him back in for another kiss. This one was much deeper than the last one. She let out a groan when he shifted to a better position to hold her.
When they stopped to breathe, he leaned his forehead against hers and smiled. “As much as I am enjoying this, I should get going.”
“I know.” She frowned as he got up and helped her up. She kissed him one more time before letting him go. “Goodnight Sev.”
“Goodnight Mio.” He smiled and entered the floo, heading for his rooms.
At breakfast the next morning, 4 ministry owls arrived. Hermione frowned when they landed in front of her, Minerva, Albus, and Remus. “Oh gods, now what?” She took her letter and quickly read through it. “There may be a problem with classes next week.”
Albus nodded. “I suggest we adjourn to my office before dinner tonight.” He looked at Severus. “This may be a very good sign for you.”
By dinner time, they had most of their problems sorted out. They would all have to leave the school for Severus's trial. That left the problem of finding someone to teach their classes. Hermione grinned. “I have the perfect solution! I had it planned for another reason but it will work for what we need.” She held up a coin.
Albus laughed. “Excellent idea Miss Granger. We can use former DA members and a few order members to cover the DADA classes. I will ask Narcissa to cover Minerva's classes, and we will find someone to cover potions.”
:I may know someone.” Severus frowned. “She can be trusted but she's not good enough to teach beyond 4th year. I can set essays and easier potions for them. She is competent enough to handle any accidents and injuries.” At their questioning looks, he smiled. “Vivian Parkinson. Pansy's mother. She was best in her year in potions and is a trained healer.”
“I will owl her tomorrow.” Albus smiled at them. “Now, why don't we head to supper.”
Pansy's mother agreed, as did Narcissa. Both of them had their trials because of their husbands activities and were cleared. They arrived that Saturday to go over everything. As she watched Severus discuss things with Vivian, Hermione noticed something about the woman. During a break, she motioned the woman over. “Are you ok with all of this?”
“Of course.” Vivian frowned at the girl. “Are you? You look worried.”
“I am.” Hermione frowned at her. “What if something goes wrong? What if they don't let him return?”
Vivian smiled “Everything will be fine Hermione.” She placed a hand on hers and patted it. “He has been through this before. Everything he has done since then has only been for the good. If he didn't get arrested then, he shouldn't now. With all of you there, he won't lose.”
“I keep trying to tell her that.” Severus frowned and sat down next to her. “You are worrying too much. It will be fine. The only problem I will have will be not getting to talk to you privately.”
Hermione bowed her head and nodded. “I can't help it. I just don't want to see you suffer.”
Vivian smiled at her. He has the best defense and even more so with Harry Potter and Hermione Granger backing him. If that doesn't mean anything this country is shot to hell!”
Hermione smiled at the woman. “That is true. Thanks.” She laughed as the woman hugged her. “I should let you get back to work.” She turned to Severus. “Stop by my rooms later?”
“Of course.” He walked her to the door and kissed her gently. “I will see you when we are done here.” She nodded and left. He turned with a sigh to see Vivian gathering her things.
Vivian smiled as she finished packing her stuff away. “Leave a note for the upper grades, I will read it tomorrow.” At his frown, she smiled and walked up to him. “She cares greatly for you Severus. You focus on spending what time with her that you can before Monday. I will go talk to Albus about giving you off til Monday morning.” She smiled and patted his arm. “She needs you right now, I can tell. I think that you also need her.”
He nodded as she headed for the door. “Thank you.” He was rewarded with a smile before the door closed behind her. He sighed and sat down. Noticing that Hermione left her book, he picked it up and looked at it. He frowned at the title. In gold letters on a plain blue background were the words All About Soul Mates. “She has a soul mate?” He felt something inside him click and suddenly jumped up and rushed out the door.
Hermione was shocked when she opened her door. “Severus, what's wrong?” He looked like he had just lost everything. But he also looked hopeful.
He walked past her and turned to look at her as the door closed. Once it was closed and she turned to him, he held up the book. “Why are you reading this? For me?” When she nodded, he grinned and pulled her in for a deep kiss. “I have wondered if you felt it too.” He pulled her over to the couch and pulled her down to sit on his lap. “That's why you are so worried isn't it?” She nodded again. He cupped her face to make her look at him. “I'm not going anywhere. I love you.”
She teared up at those words. “You really mean that?” When he nodded, she wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug. “I love you too. So much Sev.” She pulled back and smiled. “Ever since third year actually.”
He laughed and kissed her forehead. “Me too. Ever since that dreadful shack. Harry used your wand to hex me didn't he?”
She gasped at him. “He did! Is that why it knocked you out? I noticed something when you protected us from Moony.”
Severus nodded. “Yes, the spell reacted to the magic residue form you when he used it. I too felt it when Moony attacked us.” He shook his head and laughed. “This is amazing.” He sighed. “Let me write up my notes for the older grades and then we are going to sit here and talk about this.” She nodded and let him get to work. When he was done, he had a house elf take them to his desk and then bring the two of them supper.
They ate and adjourned to the couch. Hermione sighed as he held her/ “How long will you stay tonight?”
Severus laughed. “When you went to the bathroom, an elf popped in telling me that Albus gave me off til Monday morning.” He grinned at her. “He's not expecting to see either of us all weekend.”
“Really?” When he nodded, she grabbed his hand and stood up. “Go get washed up. Once I get my shower, I have something planned.” She pushed him into the bedroom and to the bathroom. “Trust me.” She grinned and ran back out to her sitting room. When he exited the bathroom, she ran in with her things. When she finished and entered the bedroom, he was sitting on the edge of the bed. “Good.” She climbed on the bed and motioned him to join her. “I like to read to relax sometimes. If I have the time, I read in bed because I know I will get tired. I thought we could do that.”
Severus shook his head and joined her. When he looked over the books, he laughed. “I should have known.” He picked up Gulliver's Travels. “You can never go wrong with the classics.” He looked over to see she had grabbed Robin Hood. She smiled and sent the rest of the books back to their shelf.
Monday morning, Hermione was as nervous as Severus. They had discussed their possible soul mate bond and had Poppy check. She grinned when the results were positive. Hermione was waiting with him in the Headmaster's office. “Albus, we have something to tell you.” She looked over and Severus handed the man the results of their test. “Poppy confirmed it.”
Albus smiled at them. “Wonderful news!” He smiled as the others entered the office. “Just in time! Congratulations are in order!” He showed Minerva and Remus the parchment. They congratulated the two. “Now the Ministry really can't do anything about you but we will hold this bit of evidence for the right moment.” The couple nodded and sighed as the Headmaster threw some floo powder into the fire. “Off we go!” The group quickly entered the floo and headed to the Ministry. Hermione had kissed him just before entering the floo and she now walked beside him. Once in the courtroom, he was taken to his seat. She joined the other witnesses.
Neville sat down behind her as Harry sat beside her. “It will be ok Hermione. We have our secret weapon.”
“I know.” She smiled at them. “We also got something big planned that I can't tell you about right now.” She winked when Severus looked back at her. “Just be prepared to stand by your statements from last year.”
Harry smirked and leaned in. “Don't worry, we stand by anything you say. I told his lawyer that when outside this room, you are his spokesman. When the man asked me why that was, I pointed out a specific reporter who has it out for you and anyone who befriends you. And that you alone have something over said reporter's head that gets stuff done.” He chuckle3d when Hermione's head whipped around blindingly fast to glare at the group of reporters.
Minerva looked over at a low growl from next to her. “Are you alright Hermione?” She saw the girl's hand twitching and her eyes were glaring at the press section. When Harry mimicked a reporter writing, she nodded. “I see.” She looked over to see Severus looking at Hermione in worry. She motioned with her eyes to look at the press section. His eyes widened before glaring just as hard as Hermione. “Dear, you might want to stop before you pop a vein.”
Hermione blushed and grinned when she saw Severus glaring at the blonde. “At least I'm not the only one.” As if sensing her eyes on him, Severus turned to look at her. She winked and smirked as if she were the cat that ate the canary before turning to face front. Out the corner of her eye, she saw his lawyer lean over to tell him something. He smirked in return and winked at her. Then the proceedings started.
When things paused for lunch, Hermione sighed as Remus joined her and the others in a side room. “Things are going good aren't they?”
Minerva smiled. “It seems so but this is only the beginning. They haven't gotten to the big stuff yet. That is when our defense comes into play.” She nodded to Harry and the others. “We have a solid defense and plenty of backup.” She looked up as Neville motioned them from the door. “It's time to get back. Remember, we have a few big defense items.”
When they filed in, they saw Severus was already there. He was looking happy. As things picked back up though, he seemed to get weary. By the end of the day, he was worn out. He sighed as they packed up their papers. “So far, so good.”
His lawyer nodded. “Wait here, this is an escort to take you to your holding room. It is on the next floor and not a cell. Let me go tell them what is going to happen.” He nodded to the man and headed over to Albus and the others. Hermione nodded after listening to him and headed over to him.
She quickly pulled him into a hug once the press was out of site. “Your escort is here. Tonks is the only auror.” She pushed a folded piece of parchment into his pocket. “They think it's only a note but we charmed it. Tap it with your wand hand as you think of what to say. It will write it. I have the other piece.” She smiled at him. “The only thing they will ever see is a simple note wishing you well and to keep it up.”
He nodded as the doors opened and Tonks led his escort in. “Wotcher Professor. Hermione.” Tonks smiled at him as he stared at his escort.
Hermione grinned when he turned to her. “The best that could make it. It also shows that the students are behind you.” She motioned to Ginny, Colin, and a few other 7th years from all houses. She laughed when Draco waved at his godfather. “Slytherins included. Did your lawyer tell you about not saying anything?” When he nodded, she smirked. “Good, because I have my speech all planned out.” She took his hand and pulled him into a kiss before leading him out the doors. The DA stuck tight around them. She nodded when he whispered thanks.
Rita Skeeter grinned predatorily as they exited. She stepped forward as the group stopped. “Did you imperious students to help you Severus?”
Hermione glared at the woman and held up a hand. Her wand was aimed at the blonde reporter. “I am the spokesperson for Professor Severus Snape. He has no comment. I however have something to say.” She frowned as everyone turned their attentions to her.
“What do you have to say child?” Rita looked at her in a bored sense, completely missing the small flash of glow in the girl's eyes.
“Never call me child again you bug infested bitch!Severus and I are together and I won't have you sticking your nose anywhere near us.” She glared evilly at her. “Also, if I see anything negative in the Prophet about anyone you see here, I will see to it that you will be spending the rest of your life in Azkaban. You know why.”
Rita paled and backed away. “I never write...”
“Yes you do! You have tried to turn everyone's life around that I know for the last 7 years. In case you forgot, I helped create a few potions that helped save lives. With Severus as the other creator. This is a warning. If you EVER write anything negative or untrue about me or my friends again, I WILL tell everyone why I carry around a clear jar!” Hermione pulled Severus forward and the group pushed through the group of reporters.
“That was brilliant Hermione.” Tonks smiled as she led them to the holding room that Severus would be staying in. “Severus, you are the luckiest man in the world right now.”
Severus smirked as Hermione blushed. “I am very lucky aren't I? I'm proud of my lady.”
“She's no lady.” Ron grinned as they all looked at him in alarm. “She's the most brilliant, headstrong woman in the country. And downright scary when pissed.”
Hermione grinned as the others nodded. “I get it from my gram.” She turned to the others. “Thanks guys. I will see you tomorrow morning.” As they nodded and headed off, she turned to Severus. “You take it easy. I will miss you.”
Severus nodded and hugged her tight. “And I you. Get some rest tonight.” He pulled her in for a kiss. “I will see you tomorrow.”
She nodded as he entered the room and was locked in. Tonks walked her to the main entrance and headed off. “Thanks Tonks.”
The next day went as well as the first. The only negative was when Hermione read the article by Rita Skeeter. The DA stood behind her as they lead Severus from the court room. As Rita stepped in front of them, she found herself with 2 wands in her face.
Harry smirked as the woman blinked in surprise.”Miss Skeeter, you were warned. You wrote stories about me and my friends that lied and made it even more dangerous for us. Last night you wrote yet one more false story about my best friend and the man that saved my life more than once. I will be here to testify against you for as long as I live.”
“Auror Tonks, I want this bug arrested for slander, lieing to the readers, helping a corrupt minister by doing said stories, and making it an even more dangerous world because of it. Oh, and one more thing.” Hermione grinned as she held up an empty clear jar. “She is an unregistered animagus. She takes form of an ugly ass beetle. That's how she has broken in and gotten stories all these years.”
“I am not!” Rita turned to run but was cut off by Tonks casting the spell to force a person to transform.
Tonks grinned as Hermione quickly caught the fluttering beetle in her jar. “Thank you Miss Granger.” She took the jar and frowned. “My, she really is an ugly ass beetle. No wonder she wore so much makeup. Must have been to cover her ugly ass face.” She smirked when the other reporters began writing and snapping pictures while laughing.
“You are very welcome.” Hermione smirked and turned to the other reporters. “Tell the truth and I won't have to dig up any of your secrets.” Believe me when I say that even the Hogwarts Professors can tell you how good my researching is.” When the entire DA nodded, the reporters quickly wrote it down.
Minerva grinned. “I fully support Miss Granger in all her endeavors, including researching anyone who tries to slander her or her friends. As do the staff of Hogwarts. We all stand behind Severus as well.” The DA members all voiced their agreement.
Tonks smiled at them. “Come, we must go.” She tucked the jar in a pocket and led them away.
The third day of his trial, Severus found out what Hermione and Albus had in store as their secret weapon. He stared dumbfounded as two people walked in to testify for him. He looked over to see Hermione, Neville, Harry, Albus, Minerva, and Remus all smirking. He took a sip of his water and swallowed hard. “Sweet Merlin.” It was barely a whisper but his lawyer heard it and smirked at him.
