Author's Note: Thank you all for continuing to read, I hope you like another new chapter! The thing about working second shift is sometimes I can't fall asleep as soon as I get home. so last night I banged out another chapter. Also I promise soon we will have some hot and heavy stuff, I just happen to be one of those author's that needs groundwork and backstory before the steamy bits. Thank you all for your patience!

The eighth years crowded together, standing and looking at one another. Out of forty of their original class, less than twenty remained. While some decided not to return to school like Pansy Parkinson, others like Pavarti Patel, died in the battle. McGonagall approached the group, and looked each person in the eyes trying to give them some of her strength before speaking.
“As you all know, you have been invited back to fully complete your studies this year. And tomorrow morning you will each meet with me for a quick practical examination to determine what areas of schooling you need or would like to focus on to achieve your N.E.W.T.S. That being said,” She continued, ignoring Ron’s groans, “Our dormitories are full up this year with our newest batch of first years. I considered placing you as best as we could in your houses, but I’ve come up with another idea. Please follow me.”
Without any fanfare the headmistress turned on her heel and started walking, knowing everyone would follow without hesitation. Harry noticed Ron looking for Hermione in the small group, but dissuaded him with a quick shake of his head, trying to warn Ron not to do anything in public. Ron took the hint, but frowned, clearly unhappy with having to wait. Harry spotted Hermione at the front, which was typical. She was talking to Padma Patel, she appeared to be soothing the young woman.
Harry scanned the rest of the crowd, noting familiar faces. Each person that caught his eye gave him a nod and a brief smile, including Draco Malfoy, which he wasn’t expecting. Then again, Hermione wasn’t the only one who had been writing to Draco over the summer. Harry had received a letter at the same time as he kept up the correspondence, though not to the degree that Hermione had.
Harry noticed Draco’s eyes narrow, and his jaw clench when he spotted Ron, but dismissed the notion. Everyone didn’t have to become best friends just because a truce had been declared after all.
They kept climbing stairs and the young adults murmured more as they climbed, wondering if a new tower had been converted for them. Once they reached the seventh floor McGonagall headed towards the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy and it clicked into every student’s brain where they were headed.
Minerva stopped in front where the Room of Requirement used to be, and turned to look at her charges.
“I thought this place was destroyed by some cursed fire.” A voice said from the gathering, Harry was pretty sure it was Blaise Zabini who spoke.
“It was.” The headmistress said sedately and offered a rare smile. “However, the other professor’s and I, while being unable to restore the room, did manage to put new enchantments on it and we have made it your new dormitory.”
She stepped up to the wall and pressed her palm to a stone that looked slightly scorched. When her flesh touched, a door appeared in front of her and she entered, beckoning everyone to follow.
“The door will only appear when a teacher or one of you press your hand to the stone, for everyone else, it will be a blank wall. However, you will be able to bring other students here, they just won’t be able to come alone.” She said over her shoulder as she showed them to their new common room.
It was decorated simply, banners of each house on the walls, black furniture with pillows in the colors of every house, and plenty of desk space for studying. There were two fireplaces, one on each end of the room, next to dormitory doors and one seemingly random doorway directly opposite of the entrance.
“Gentlemen’s dormitories are on the left, ladies on the right. They will be slightly different from what you are used to, but I’m sure you all are intelligent enough to handle it. This door however, is a special privilege. The secret passage to the Hog’s Head remained intact. Aberforth Dumbledore has graciously agreed that as war veterans, and of age witches and wizards, you may have the use of this shortcut to go back and forth to Hogsmeade as you please, as long as you abide by curfew and class schedules.”
The student’s seemed to cheer up by that news based on the chorus of excellent, wow and smiles that appeared. “I’ll see all of you tomorrow for your practicals.” Minerva tapped a piece of blank parchment on the notice board by the door with her wand, and scheduled time slots for each person appeared. “Good night.”
With that pronouncement the Headmistress left the students to themselves. Hermione immediately led Padma to a sofa, where she and Hannah continued to console the twin. Other conversations broke out as they settled into the common room, some went to look at the dorms, and others simply looked shaken and worn despite the excitement.
Ron was determined to talk to Hermione alone, but froze when he saw Lavender approach the trio. To his dismay, she helped Hermione and Hannah lead Padma off to their dorm to get settled in. Even though Ron was desperate, who would want to proclaim your love in front of the girl you were shagging and the girl you were in love with? Not even Ronald was about to go into that viper’s nest.
Instead Ron trudged to his dorm, hoping to claim a bed and sleep well enough to wake up early. He wanted to invite Hermione on a walk of the grounds before breakfast, explain, apologize and then, produce flowers from his wand like the muggle magicians his dad told him about and ask her to be his girlfriend. He was so wrapped up in his thoughts he didn’t notice someone was following him into the empty dorm.
Harry looked around the common room, pained, but relieved to be back. He was contemplating getting out his cloak and going on a stroll through the castle when he noticed Draco Malfoy following Ron into the dorms. He followed, curious and a little wary to make sure that nothing happened.
He walked into the first room just in time to see Draco punch Ron in the face, making Ron reel back against one of the bedframes and topple onto the ground. While Ron was gasping Draco spit out, “That’s for Granger,” before whirling around finding himself face to face with the boy who saved his life.
