Dear Potter,
I know that we’re not friends and won’t pretend anything different. However, we have one thing in common and that is Hermione Granger which is why I am sending this letter, it came to my attention that you are about to walk that difficult line of magical divorce. It seems like an easy thing for a wizard to divorce a witch but it really isn’t because you need to have hard proof that she’s cheating or an admittance, a time-frame, a good/great job, stellar reputation and the ability to be home with the child or have someone to take care of the kid while you’re working. Then there is a personal life thing, that’s where it gets really messy because people start to watch your every move. I can help you better if you come to the manor, say tomorrow morning around eleven I’ll have my personal elf show you to my office. But remember, Potter, that my help never comes for free.
-Draco.
Harry leaned against the back of his chair and reread the letter in his hands. He never realized that there would be so much to go through in order to be free of your wife, even messy divorces in the muggle world were easier than what Malfoy had explained. He sighed heavily to himself, he had absolutely no hard proof that she was cheating just a hunch but his instincts had always served him well in the past. He walked to the Floo and threw some powder in to the fireplace and called the only person from his past that Ginny hadn’t dragged him away from or turned against him.
“Harry!” George Weasley greeted with a big smile on his face “I haven’t seen you in an age, how are you?”
“I’ve been better” Harry told him “But I’ve also been worse”
“I hear you” George said “You should come by the store, it’s going great since I found Fred’s notes…he was brilliant if a little insane”
“We knew that” Harry said “You both were/are insane”
“Too true” He laughed “So, what can I do for you. You’re messaging me around lunch so I doubt this is a social Floo”
“I” Harry said slowly, trying to figure out a kind way of saying what he needed to tell the man before him “Am about to embark on a mission that I only have one ally on and it is someone that I don’t trust at all”
“Malfoy” George said, laughing when he noted the confused expression on the younger man’s face “Come on, Harry. You trust everyone you meet, even after the war…one would think you’d learn but no you never do. There were always two people in the entire wizarding world that you didn’t trust who would have ever tried to get your trust…Malfoy and Snape”
“That’s not true…” Harry lied, red-faced.
“Come on, Mr. Potter” George said, with his best Professor Snape imitation “You are aware that five out of six Defense Against The Dark Arts professors tried to kill you, and why you may ask?” Harry narrowed his eyes “Because you trusted them…actually, if you want to get technical Remus tried to kill you too but you know, he was a werewolf so…it wasn’t really his fault”
“Well excuse me for thinking that a school should not hire murderers!” Harry snapped, his face turning red from embarrassment as well as anger.
“Okay, okay” George said soothingly “Calm down there killer”
“Anyway!” Harry said a little more forcefully than was really necessary “I am trying to…find something that Ginny may have hidden”
“Like proof that she’s cheating?” George guessed.
“What?!” Harry looked around “No, of course not. Why would you…do you know that she is for certain?”
“No” He answered “My sister is smart, she’s been keeping it well hidden if she is cheating which she likely is”
“Why don’t you seem to care about the fact that I so obviously am going to divorce her?” Harry asked after a moment.
“Why don’t you come through?” George said.
“I can’t” Harry said “I have to find something that she’d have hidden in the house where I would never think to look”
“When Fred was alive” George spoke slowly “We lived in our own world, never saw what was going on right around us after he died…after my, err…meltdown, I looked around me and realized that my family was filled with social climbing monsters. Not Bill or Charlie but you’ll notice that they stay as far away as possible…it wasn’t until I was seeing clearly did I realize what they were capable of, like pretending to love a boy who had never known it before just to further climb that social ladder”
“Where would she hide personal things?” Harry asked again, his stomach hurting because George had confirmed what he’d always wondered which was that he was not loveable in anyway. The Dursleys couldn’t love him and now he was finding out that even the Weasleys didn’t love him.
“She has a diary” George said “I made it for her when she was thirteen to help her hide her private thoughts after the whole Tom Riddle thing…this potion” He handed him a green potion “Works like a skeleton key, it’ll open the diary and if she’s hiding something in there like pictures, notes, jewelry the sort it’ll be in there. It has an extended box charm on it so it can hold a lot, almost as much as Hermione’s little beaded bag, it can’t have a weightless charm put on it so it’ll have been in the same spot since you guys moved in”
“Okay” Harry nodded “Thank you, very much” He started to pull back.
“Whatever help it is that Malfoy’s offering you” George said “I’d take it, no one knows how to pull themselves out of a rut better than a Malfoy”
“How’d you…” Harry started.
“Since Fred’s death” George said “Since I realized that my eyes have been closed for far too long, I decided to keep them open” He smiled “People forget me, I am technically nothing without Fred, so I am able to see what others don’t pay attention to”
“Thank you” Harry breathed.

Hermione was sitting in a sitting room with Andromeda at her house. They were sipping tea and discussing the healing projects that were being worked on in the medical universities. It was nice to have a conversation with someone other than Draco, not that she was complaining about talking to him. He was still the smartest person she’d conversed with in many years not including Andromeda of course. But she was the only person that Hermione could talk to about Draco himself which she had to have someone because she had all sorts of questions.
“So…what’s wrong with Draco” Hermione asked.
“I’m not sure” Andromeda said “He’s not my patient but according to what Luna’s told me it sounds like he’s agoraphobic”
“No” Hermione said “Agoraphobia means not being able to leaving ones house…Draco leaves the house just not usually during the day but he was able to leave to come to the ministry to help me when I had my panic attack” She shrugged “That means that he’s not agoraphobic”
“I know” She sighed “I’m sorry, Hermione I’m just…stressed”
“Worried about Teddy going to Hogwarts?” Hermione laughed lightly “It’s safe now, Harry’s no longer there”
“I’m more worried about if he’s going to Hogwarts” Andromeda sighed “Tuitions gone up, robes are more expensive, books are…I don’t even want to think about and a wand?” She gave a humorless laugh “I lost all my money fighting the ministry for custody of Teddy”
“What do you mean?” Hermione asked “Harry never told me any of this, why were they fighting you?”
“I’m the sister of Bellatrix LeStrange” She answered “I look very similar to her so I must be just as bad and of course, well Teddy’s a “half-breed” and Height wanted to take him and put in that horrible orphanage they’ve set up for the children of magical creatures”
“Harry wouldn’t have allowed that!” Hermione assured her but got a laugh in response “Why are you laughing?”
“Potter isn’t a bad person, I know that” She answered “But he was trying to get custody of Teddy when he heard that Height was trying to take him and his little, red-haired demon of a wife was fighting against Harry and me with Height feeding him lines about how horrible werewolves are and how the child will be the same”
“Really?” Hermione leaned back, interlocking her fingers together in front of her chin with a speculating look on her face “Where is this orphanage for the half-breed kids?”
“I don’t know” She said, standing up and walking to the window that looked out over the backyard and to the turquoise haired ten year old boy who was playing with some house-elves “Half-breed children just…go missing and are never heard of again. Apparently, it really exists but no one knows what happens there, I keep him very close even in our own yard since the kids all go missing in the most normal of places”
“Wow” Hermione breathed, she was thinking back a couple of weeks “Andromeda, what can you tell me about a man named Carl Spear?”
“Spear?” She frowned, a small crease forming between her brows “Nothing…well, I mean there was a Darlene Spear who had been attacked by a Vampire years ago…it was all over the Prophet”
“Why?” Hermione asked “They never make mention of the attacks like that”
“She was pregnant” Andromeda said “Everyone was really surprised that she gave a normal birth, considering that technically…she was dead”
“So she had her baby…would the baby be considered a half-breed, I mean her mother was bitten and then gave birth?” Hermione asked.
“To some she may, I suppose” Andromeda answered “I mean she was born four months after her mother was bitten”
“Four months…” Hermione repeated, eyes wide “They never found her body…OH MY GODS!” She stood up “I’ve got to go”

Draco was seated behind his desk and looked at the door, Potter had come to talk to him and that made him smile however he was a little nervous. He hated people, he hated the judgmental stares he got when he was in the public but Hermione had been right when she said that they both needed to relearn to exist without the things that had once defined them. Hermione, though amazing on her own, had always been defined by Potter and the Weasel and had to learn to stand on her own without them to lean on. The same could be said about him, he needed to learn to stand in the light and be seen as Draco Malfoy, not stay hidden in the shadows forever hiding behind the image that his family before him had made for the Malfoy name. He knew that Potter would be able to help him with that, grudgingly Draco had to admire the fact that Potter had stayed calm and cool while the ministry, prophet and then some were dragging his name through the mud and that was something that he needed to learn.
“Enter” He called out, the part that idolized his father wanted to be intimidating but the part needing to ask for help wanted to appear friendlier than he used to be.
“Malfoy” Harry greeted as he walked in to the office and closed the door, he walked over and sat down. His piercing emerald eyes locked on the cold grey-blue ones of the blonde haired man and he sighed “You wanted to help me?”
“For a price” Draco said immediately, to make sure that Potter knew where they stood.
“Which is?” Harry asked.
“You want to get divorced and I’m sure you want custody of your son” Draco said, tilting his head to the side and offered a small smile “I want to change what’s been going on for far too long at the ministry”
“Height” Harry said simply raising a dark brow at him “How?”
“He needs to be replaced” Draco said “It’s really that simple”
“With who, though?” Harry asked and it was Draco’s turn to raise a brow “You?!”
“No, you…idiot” Draco growled, he dropped his face in to his hands “You…you, moron”
“Are you going to help me” Harry asked “Or just insult me?”
“I’ll likely do both” Draco answered, Harry was about to say something before he just shrugged it off because at least he was being honest, that was more than most of the people that were his ‘friends’.
“What makes you think that I’ll be accepted as a potential Chief Warlock?” Harry asked “I’ve not been in the public eye in so long…”
“But you’re Harry Potter” Draco sneered slightly “The ‘Chosen One’, the ‘Boy Who Lived’ and all that shit…no matter how many interviews you do or don’t do, the public will forever remember you”
“And?” Harry asked.
“You know what the problem with the Malfoy family always was?” Draco asked, meaning it to be a rhetorical question.
“Too much pride?” Harry asked “Too much money, not a lot of sense, no backbones, too much inbreeding, this unearned sense of entitlement, unbelievable views on blood purity…would you like me to go on?”
“Nice” Draco hissed, his upper lip curling away from his teeth in irritation then stood up from the table “Have a good divorce I hope you have a place to live when the She-Weasel is done with you”
“Oh come on, Malfoy” Harry called after him as he walked out the door, still stifling a laugh over the look on Draco’s face when he made his list of all things wrong with the Malfoy’s “You’ve been insulting me since I came in, I needed to get one in there, it’s only fair!” He chased after the blonde man, laughing louder than planned “It was a good one too…come on, come on you know that it was slightly amusing” Draco’s lips twitched slightly but he didn’t give in.
“Kippy will see you out, Potter” He drawled “Nice talking with you, remind me never to do it again”
“Please…” Harry said, the word stopped Draco in his tracks but he didn’t turn “I don’t have any friends that I trust other than Hermione and she trusts you…I want to trust you too and I want to be friends, if we can be…things can be forgiven and forgotten”
“Potter” Draco sighed and turned around, he found Potter standing just behind him with his hand out readying to shake his own. The blonde remembered a time when he’d been in the same situation with the same man, he thought about how different his life could have been had Potter taken his hand. His life would have been easier, kinder, maybe he’d have had real friends, been happier, safer but Potter had snubbed him. He looked at the other man and wondered if he was experiencing the same thoughts that Draco was having. Finally, after what felt like a century the Slytherin gripped his hand and they shook, keeping their eyes locked on one another. After a minute Draco dropped his hand, turned and continued down the stairs, leading him to the front door.
“Please” Harry said “Draco…”
“Contact Pansy Parkinson and her partner Lavender Brown” Draco said at the doorway “You can only do so much at home. The she-weasel is smart, she will know if you’re following her and that will tell her all she needs to know about what you’re planning and with a divorce you want it to be a surprise”
“Okay” Harry said, taking the card “Why do I need Pansy and Lavender?”
“They are the best private investigators” Draco told him “Contact them and give them the money and information they need and then while the wife is away go through all her personal papers and pictures to see what you can find” Harry nodded but looked confused a little bit “Notes, letters, pictures of her lover or lovers is proof that she’s unfaithful. You make copies of that stuff and put it back exactly where you found it, I suggest that you wear gloves and be mindful of dust displacement, maybe she’ll never notice maybe she will wouldn’t you rather be careful?”
“Yes” Harry said “I may need help, that’s a lot…”
“Draco!” Hermione said as she flung open the door, she stopped upon seeing both men on the other side having a completely normal conversation “Oh…sorry, I need to talk to Draco…Harry it’s good to see you”
“You too” He hugged her “Malfoy, if I need help who should I Floo?”
“Like I said” Draco answered “Get Pansy and Lavender on her trail and I’m sure that Granger here would love to help you take down your wife, wouldn’t you, love?”
“Yes” Hermione answered with a grin “Call me when you go through her stuff and I’ll be there”
“Thanks” Harry breathed “I should be going, anyone I should be weary of?”
“Everyone” Draco answered “Until you know for certain that they are on your side, be in the mind frame that everyone is against you and that way you won’t be easily attacked” Harry nodded, gave Hermione a hug and then left the manor home.
“So you need my help?” Draco asked after Hermione explained about the half-breed orphanage “What makes you think that I know anything about it?”
“I don’t think you do” Hermione admitted “But I think that you can figure things out or you can tell me where to go to figure things out”
“I have a contact” Draco said “We’ve spoken quite a bit, he see’s things that others do not, I can’t promise anything Hermione but he may know something or someone who does”
“Thank you!” Hermione exclaimed “Thank you, so much”
“If he tells you to meet with someone” Draco said “You are not to go alone, I will accompany you and keep you safe…got it?”
“Yes, sir” Hermione smirked and he shook his head with a smirk of his own. He walked over to her and kissed her forehead, a movement that had slowly become normal for the two of them and comforted them both “So who is this contact?”
“George Weasley” Draco answered, she pulled back and looked at him making him laugh a little “I know, I don’t have much connection with the outside world but one of the people that I’ve been in touch with was George Weasley and if anyone knows anything about that orphanage it’ll be him”
“Thank you” Hermione said “The first floor is almost completely done being repaired and when it is I’m going to move outside to fix up out there” He nodded “We need to get Malfoy manor looking a bit more, suitable for a Malfoy to be living in, don’t you think?”
“If it pleases you” Draco answered, she smiled and turned to walk away “I took the liberty of having numerous outfits sent over for you. Formal attire, work attire, lounge wear, workout clothes, whatever you could want and if you need something else there’s an account at all the stores in Diagon Alley all you have to say is ‘Malfoy account’ and that will pay for anything you could want”
“But…” Hermione tried to argue with him but he just walked by up the stairs.
“It’s okay, Hermione” Draco said on his way up “I’m taking care of you”
“Yeah” Hermione said, as she watched him walk away back to his office “Like you’re my keeper or something”
