As they all resumed their seats, Corvus looked at his eldest. "Sit a bit longer, son," he said, a knock sounding on the closed door. "There is yet time for you to talk to Rodolphus."
"Not much. Presentations begin in a few hours."
"Come in," came Sirius' deep growl, the knock coming yet again.
A warm smile. "So they do, but there are no worries, there is still plenty of time. Sit, Christian. Yes, what is it?" James asked as a footman appeared in the doorway.
"Forgive the interruption, your Majesty," he said with a bow. "Their Majesties, King Ethan, and King Rohan, their Highnesses, Prince Aidyn, Prince Fili and Prince Kili," he said, stepping aside to allow them to enter.
Of the five who entered the room, three were tall, standing over six feet. Fili, Crown Prince and Heir to the Throne of Erebor, stood at five eight, while his younger brother, Prince Royal Kili stood at five ten.
King Ethan of Caldonia and his younger brother, Crown Prince Aidyn both had dark hair, thick and long to their shoulders, pulled back and held with black satin hair ties at the nape of their necks. Both also had the dark, sapphire blue eyes that most of the Potter men had. Only Adreian, Hadrian and Hunter had their mother's emerald green.
Fili was the only blond of the group, his hair was also quite thick, long to his shoulders in loose waves, a few braids visible and pulled back to keep at least some of his hair out of his eyes. Kili, however, had his father's thick, wavy black hair, and his mothers dark brown eyes. They were, even now, sparkling with the ever present look of mischievous amusement.
The final man of the five, King Rohan of Elendia, was slim of build, muscled where many a young woman or man thought counted, with midnight hair of an almost silky quality, and in certain light seemed to show bluish highlights, and like all four of his younger brothers, he had the bright silver eyes of his father, Devlin.
The other four were built rather well, with lithe, nearly lean bodies, each with the muscles of men that worked out regularly, and obtained in weapons training classes. Thorin gave them all very warm, welcoming smiles. "Boys," he said to his sons. "Ethan. Aidyn. Rohan."
"Afternoon, Uncle Thorin," Ethan said as he returned the smile. "You are looking quite well. Where is Uncle Bilbo? I have yet to see him."
Thorin gave a laugh, "Now think about it? Where else would you find my beloved Consort on this wonderfully warm, sunny day?"
"In other words, Ethan, if you wish to talk to Papa, you will need to look for him in the Palace gardens," Kili answered with a laugh. "Hey Alek, Chris." His head tilted, the smile wavering. "What is it? Why so serious?"
"A serious discussion, Ki," Alekzander answered with a smile at his younger, so mischievous cousin, who; whenever he got together with some of his younger brothers, namely the twins, Braeden and Brenden, and especially Hadrian and Hunter, chaos tended to rein supreme, sending those not used to the boys and their shenanigan's into hiding until such a time as they could be reined in. Usually by James, Sirius, and Remus, or some of the Guardians, who had long ago learned to control them. "Welcome to all of you. Rohan, the rule of Elendia is obviously agreeing with you."
He chuckled. "That it does, Alek," he told him. "Especially as Brady and I now have a few hand picked advisors. The only real trouble we are still encountering...and giving me migraines, is the Royal Council. Most of them don't want to listen to us, and are fighting me on several key decisions that I have decided needs to be implemented. They just keep smiling condescendingly, calling us pups who--"
"You're twenty eight!" Alekzander exclaimed with indignation. "Brady is twenty five."
"Yes, and most of them are in their late sixties to mid seventies, with three being in their early eighties. In any case, I think we have a few of them sorted."
"But not all of them?"
"Oh no, not NEARLY all of them, but I'm not giving up."
"That's good, Rohan. Show them strength, confidence, even if you so not feel it. Any sign of weakness on your part will have them trying to walk all over you." James told him.
"I agree. I'm quite sure they'll come around eventually." Corvus spoke up.
"Hum...not necessarily, Cor." Thorin said as he sat forward. "And were I you, I wouldn't be giving them much more time to make up their minds. Chances are, if they haven't fallen in line with your plans and decisions of what you would like for Elendia by now, they aren't going to. You've been on the Throne now for seven years. That is more than enough time for them to accept that you are their King, and that you are NOT your father."
A snort. "Which seems to be the way my Steward is leaning. If he had any say at all, and believe me, he has had a lot to say, nothing would ever change, but stay exactly as it is. The way, he said, that father intended."
"Your father, for all that he was a very good King in that he put his people first, is dead. You, his son and Heir, are now their King, and from what little I have seem of your plans, they are sound and will get Elendia moving forward again. Change must happen, Rohan, for any Kingdom to grow and thrive. If you don't have at least some change, then you cannot thrive, and if you cannot thrive, you stagnate."
"I know," he said, running a hand through his hair, dislodging the golden circlet with rubies and diamonds interspersed all the way around that he had chosen to wear for the day. "I learned so much watching James, Thorin, and Corvus, but my Steward seems to have become far to used to the power he had before I finally came of age to take full control of the Throne. He's fighting me on nearly everything I want...or NEED to so. Keeps telling me how things were when father was on the Throne...how they SHOULD be, compared to what I think we need, what I would like them to be, and he has more than half the Council backing him."
"Oh yes, I remember what kind of mess Caldonia was in when I finally took the Throne. If you remember right, Uncle James, Uncle Thorin, I had a good many of the same problems."
They both nodded, frowns curving their brows. "We do remember, Ethan," James said. "It was after a threat was made against Jacen...that was later tracked to your Steward, forcing you to remove him from his Office and charging him with High Treason. You also called him on several key matters of state, as well as using funds from the Royal Treasury that were not his to use."
Rohan hummed. "While there has been no threat made against Brady, the triplets, or myself, there ARE other issues that have been discovered that will need to be dealt with. I may have to do the same in the end, especially if I find the proof of misconduct, and misuse of Royal Funds."
"Threatening a member of the Royal Family is instantly punishable by death," Thorin said, "and therefor, few seem to want to go that far. I'm also quite sure they remember that Ethan had to have Lord Barisol executed for his crimes. As for the rest of your issues...Come sit. Tell us everything that has happened since you took the Throne. James," he looked to his brother in law, "how about a few snacks, and perhaps some tea or coffee wouldn't go amiss."
James chuckled, immediately reaching for the comm. "Agreed," he said, calling down to the kitchens as Ethan, Rohan, Aidyn, Fili and Kili moved to sit down.
