Sebastien looked up immediately from the file he had been making a few notations in, a frown curving his brow, even as Severus, who was watching him with narrowed midnight eyes, sat forward.
"Rory?" he asked with a glance at his brother-in-law, who shook his head, not saying a word, At least not yet.
"Was the antidote found on me poison-specific, or was it universal?"
Twin midnight brows arched at that, amusement appearing in black and sapphire blue. It was Severus who chose to answer. "It was poison specific. Which means, gentlemen," he looked around the table, "that the antidote would only work on the poison it was meant for."
"Thank you, Healer-Colonel Severus, for clearing that up for us," came sourly.
"Not a problem, Lt. Colonel Aubrey," he said, his and Sebastien's expressions changing just enough for Roark to want to laugh, as both CLEARLY wanted to call the man an idiot, and more.
"Lt. Roark," he began again, looking at him, disdain in his gaze. "Why would Rodolphus Lestrange suspect Ardyn of poisoning the knife that was thrown at you?"
'Yep,' he thought as he saw Sebastien and Severus roll their eyes, Severus actually muttering something that had Dacian, Admiral Roark, and Commander Thorin looking at him, amusement flickering through their eyes, which in turn prompted Roark to reach out the water pitcher again.
'You are definitely an idiot.' "Firstly, Sir," he began, sipping as several coughs sounded from the Durins as he looked up over the rim of his glass, silver eyes sparkling devilishly, "the knife was not thrown at me, it was thrown at Rodolphus. I merely stepped in front of it." He drained the glass, set it down. "Secondly, as for why Rodolphus would suspect that there was poison on the blade, I believe I told you we had discussed it at length as there was poison on the knives that killed Kale and Tristyn."
His head turned then. "Doctor-Colonel Schyler, there was poison on the blades meant to kill Logan and Kili, was there not?"
"You know there was as I am quite sure Kili told you that the cut he sustained in the fight with that Terminator, while only a scratch, would not stop bleeding. He was also very sick for a few days after the incident."
"Thank you, and yes, he did tell us...AFTER that is, Fili ripped everyone up one side, then down the other for not calling him to let him know his little brother had very nearly been killed. I won't even get into the severe dressing down they got from Severus," he grinned suddenly at the flinches he saw on several suddenly pale features, some of them glancing over at Severus.
"AH...yes, of course, they would come after all of you once they got home. I DO hope no one was hurt too badly?"
"Not as badly as it could have been, I suppose," Thorin grumbled, not at all happy to have been reminded of the severe scolding that his son had given him for not calling him about Kili. Then there had been Severus...he looked over at him but then looked away quickly at the look in his dark eyes.
"Yes, well, idiot Terminators should have known better than to attack Logan and Kili right in front of Colonial Military Headquarters. As I understand it, you threw aside being an officer in Counter-Intelligence and became the father you are," a sudden deep sigh came as he shook his head. There was also a look of regret in his eyes as he looked up at Thorin. "After Ki told us about it, I was very sorry that I missed it," A grin appeared. "Lots of blood as I understand it."
"Damn right!" he snarled harshly. "The bastards tried to kill my baby boy right in front of me. If Roark had been there to see Logan being attacked, he'd not have stopped with taking the bastards down, he'd have taken them apart piece by piece, and relished doing it."
"Damn straight I would have," came from the Admiral, "but no matter," a sudden, very vicious grin. "I got my pound of flesh by the time we got done questioning the one who survived. Not, mind you, that he told us anything. He's still in lock-up, waiting to be sent to one of the prison barges."
Roark struggled not to let loose a laugh. Not because he didn't want to, but because he knew it would hurt like hell. "Well...there you have it. Of course, I can't be positive about that, you would have to ask him, as I cannot answer for him."
