No One Comes When You Cry
Chapter 50
“Mr L …Remus, are you feeling any different to how you normally feel?”
“During or before the run up the full moon?”
Both.”
“I feel like I do before the run up.”
“If you were still taking Severus’ wolfsbane, what would you be feeling now?”
“Slightly aggressive, wound up and at the same time ill at ease, my se …I would have certain urges. It worsens until the actual change.”
“But you don’t feel that now?”
“No. Actually, I feel like my normal self, only better because I do not feel like the change is nearing. Does that make any sense to you because it doesn’t to me.” Remus looked slightly perplexed.
“Sky couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped her. “It makes a lot of sense. You’ve been used to those feelings for too long I suppose. Well you’ll just have to get used to not feeling them any more. It’s not a cure Remus, but it means you can live like anyone else and not have to worry about the whole werewolf thing. Are you any good at potions? It’s easy enough to make so I can give you the recipe if you want.”
“I’m reasonable at potions, though I would prefer to watch you make it first. Any extra potion will not be wasted I can assure you, I do know of others who, like me, who do not like being lycanthropic.”
“Well you have three spare bottles, you can give that out and I’ll show you how to make it sometime next week. Is that okay?”
“Most definitely. Erm, where will we be making the potion? I do not think Severus would be too keen on having me present in his dungeons.”
Sky rolled her eyes. “I don’t know what it is between you two, but if you want I’ll bring what we need here. We can make it in the kitchen just as easily.”
“No you won’t, I am not letting you two loose in this kitchen. I have to prepare food in here. You can use one of the cellar rooms the same as Severus has to.”
Everyone looked up at Mrs Weasley’s stern expression. The Weasley matriarch stood with her hands on her hips and a stern expression on her face.
Sky gulped and paled, unsure as to how she should react to the angry looking woman in front of her.
She was surprised when Remus stated laughing.
“Alright Molly, keep your hair on. We won’t go messing up your kitchen. Besides, Severus already has a small laboratory set up down there, we may as well use it.”
“See that you do.”
“Albus can we go know?“ She eyed Molly warily.
“Very well. I do not suppose you will allow me another ten minutes to sample some more of Molly’s marvellous chocolate cake?”
“You can take a piece with you Albus.” Molly told him kindly. “And you had best take some for that husband of yours dear.” She said to Sky. “He’s a one for his chocolate is Severus.”
Sky frowned as Molly wrapped up a slice of cake for Albus and an even larger one for Severus. He never let her have chocolate, said it was bad for her and would rot her teeth. “Erm …I don’t think he likes chocolate Mrs Weasley. He says it‘s bad for your teeth.”
“Nonsense, he loves it. Besides, witches and wizards don’t need to worry about things like that, we just mend our teeth with magic.”
Sky darted her eyes in Remus’ direction when he let out a snort and grinned at her.
“Here.” Remus passed her a bar of chocolate. “I’ll bet you a Galleon that if you eat that in front of him, he’ll want to share it with you.”
“Thank you, a Galleon? I haven’t got one, what is it?”
Albus took her gently by the arm. “I shall explain it to you when we are back in my office.” Picking up the pieces of cake Molly had wrapped, he led Sky to the door, chuckling as he went.
“Now, you wanted to know about Galleons, our monetary system is rather different to that used in the muggle world.
At the confused look on Sky’s face he knew this was not the right way to go. Removing a small pouch from his robe pocket he emptied the contents onto his desk and held up a round gold disc.
“When we wish to purchase something, like a book or a new robe, we use money. Money consists of Galleons, Knutts,” Albus replaced the gold coin with a silver one. “Of which there are seventeen to a Galleon, and Sickles.” Now Albus held a small bronze coin to show her. “There are twenty nine of these to a Knutt. If you wish to purchase say, a new robe, these are what you would pay with.”
Sky picked up some of the coins and studied them. “But I haven’t got any. When Severus took me to buy robes and books, I didn’t have any then either, he must have used his own money.”
“No he did not. The school provided those for you from a special fund.”
“So everything I got that day, it belongs to the school?”
“No, they belongs to you.”
“And the gown Minerva took me to get for the wedding, and everything from the founders, none of it’s really mine is it?” She asked sadly.
“All of it is yours. Those items were bought specifically for you.”
“So why don’t I have any? How do I get some?”
“Most people earn them. Severus tells me that you wish to work, though now that you are expecting, that may prove difficult, but that is how most earn their galleons. Others, the more fortunate among us, come from very affluent families and do not need to earn their money.”
“But if I can’t work, that means I can’t get any of those.” She pointed at the coins on Albus’ desk. “Is that what Mr Malfoy was talking about when he said the school was supporting me?”
“Pay no heed to what Lord Malfoy told you. You are part of Hogwarts, as it is part of you. You have more right then anyone to reap the benefits of this establishment. Besides, Severus is quite able to take care of your needs, in fact I think he would prefer to.”
“But I don’t want him to, I want to pay for myself like everyone else does.”
“Sky, you do not owe anything to anyone. Besides, once we have proven that you are who you are to the Ministry, you might find that you already have galleons of your own, to do with as you please.”
“You think so? I still don’t know how I can prove I’m me.”
“It’s quite simple Sky, only a true Morrigan would be wearing that stone you have round your neck. Only a true Morrigan could hold the wand of bloods and use it. That alone is irrefutable.
Sky that wand holds a drop of my own blood, your grandfather and I were both still young men when Nicholas Flammel and I gave up our precious drops of life’s fluid for that wand of yours. Your identity is unquestionable.”
“I hope so. I‘m taking this piece of cake to Severus now, and I have a bar of chocolate to eat.”
Albus smirked at the slightly petulant expression on her face. What he wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall when she began eating that chocolate bar Remus gave to her.
“Would you like me to accompany you? I am sure Severus is eager to know what happened at number twelve.”
Sky remembered the drawing she’d left with Severus and gave a lopsided grin at the Headmaster. “It’s alright Albus, I can show him anything he wants to know. I’ll see you later.”
When she entered the bedroom Severus was fast asleep, a very contented look on his face. The drawing was laid on the bed beside him.
Sky knew he’d made good use of it. It was one of the hardest ones she’d ever drawn and she’d added sound to it.
Standing at the bottom of the bed she ran a finger up the sole of his foot.
“GAH!” He shouted, sitting up suddenly. His hair was mussed up and his eyes were wide but still sleep fogged. Severus quickly focused on the woman standing at the bottom of the bed. “What did you do that for?”
“I’ve got something for you, a present from Mrs Weasley. She said it’s your favourite.” Sky ran a finger along the sole of his other foot before moving to the side of the bed and sitting down.
“UGH! Leave my feet alone, now what have you brought me?”
Sky couldn’t keep the grin from her face at his reaction to being tickled. Conjuring a plate, she placed the chocolate cake on it and laid it on his lap.
Severus’ face lit up when he saw it. “You say Molly made this?”
“Yeah, I’ve had some too and it’s really nice. Chocolate Severus, you know, the stuff you wouldn’t let me have.”
“He frowned and cleared his throat before speaking. “Yes, well as I said, it is bad for your teeth.” All the while he looked longingly at the piece of cake.
“Do you eat chocolate?”
“Never.” He barked.”
“Oh. You won’t want any of this then.” She stood and removed the plate before he could make a grab for it.
“But you’ve already had some, and it would upset Molly greatly if I were not to eat it now.”
“She won’t know will she. I’ll put this in the bin shall I?”
“Noooo, don’t.” He looked at her desperately. “Alright, I like chocolate cake. Give it back.”
“Alright.” Sky passed him the plate back and he tucked in with relish. “Mmm. This is lovely, I haven’t had some of Molly’s chocolate cake for ages.” He mumbled through a mouthful.
“So it’s alright for you to have chocolate but not me?”
“No it is not, but you already told me you had a piece.”
“And you never eat chocolate at any other time?”
“What is this, twenty questions? No I do not. Now let me eat my cake in peace.”
Sky stood and picked up the drawing she left him earlier. Rolling it carefully, she placed it back in her desk.
“That was delicious.” Severus licked his fingers clean before using his wand to clean his hands properly.
Sky sat at the end of the bed with her back to him and where she knew he couldn’t quite reach her. Removing the bar of chocolate from her pocket she started to unwrap it. “Did you like my drawing?”
“Very much so. What is that?” He asked her, leaning sideways and trying to peer round.
“Oh, just a present from Remus to me. I didn’t want to offend him by refusing.”
“What kind of present?” He could smell the dark chocolate. “Why would Lupin give you presents?”
“He wanted to say thank you for the wolfsbane, so he gave me this.”
Sky held up the bar and let him watch as she broke a piece off and popped it in her mouth. It really was nice and she tried to make it last, letting it melt in her mouth and making ‘Mmm‘ noises as she ate.
“Give that to me now.” He demanded. “It is not good for you. Besides, it is dark chocolate and is much too rich. Give it to me and I shall look after it for you.”
Sky turned to see him with his hand stretched out. “No. I’ll keep it in my desk, then I can have some when I feel like it.”
Severus’ jaw dropped. ‘Did she just tell him no? In addition, if she put it in her desk he would not be able to get at it. Dark chocolate was his favourite.’
“I do not think that is a good idea at all. No, it is best you give it to me for safe keeping, you‘ll only end up making yourself sick with it.”
Sky liked the chocolate and didn‘t want to part with it, but after what Mrs Weasley and Mr Lupin said, she was more intrigued as to how Severus would react if she handed it over to him.
“Okay. Still, it should last a while since I’m the only one who likes it.” Said Sky innocently as she passed him the chocolate.
Severus looked at it longingly as he placed it in his bedside drawer. “Why don’t you go have a nice long soak in the bath, you must be tired after your visit?”
“I’m fine, besides, I had one earlier.”
“I see.” He was wondering how he could get rid of her long enough to have a piece of chocolate.
“I thought I might go see Rowena for an hour if that’s okay. We haven’t spoken for a while.”
“Good idea.” He said quickly. “I dare say she will want to talk about the babies, you go ahead.”
After giving him a kiss, she went through to the wall. As soon as she closed the door, she headed for the mirror and sat down to watch Severus.
Severus waited for a few minutes in case she returned. He was fidgeting, those few minutes felt like hours. Unable to resist any longer, he took the chocolate from the drawer, broke of a large piece and put it in his mouth. “Mmm. Oh. Mmm.” He let out, his eyes closing as a look of sheer bliss came over his face.
Sky watched him break off a second piece, even larger then the first and waited until he put it in his mouth. Then she stood and walked back into the bedroom
When Sky suddenly re-entered the room he shoved the now small bar of chocolate under his pillow, his mouth was too full to speak and he tried to look innocently curious as she came to sit on the side of the bed.
“Cat got ya tongue?” She asked.
He frowned slightly and shook his head, trying not to swallow as the chocolate melted deliciously in his mouth.
“Give us a kiss.” She whispered, leaning close to him.
Severus pulled back startled. ’Bloody hell, now what do I do?’
“What’s wrong, I thought you said you felt a lot better, stronger? Aren’t you going to kiss me?”
He shook his head, his eyes wide. Then they narrowed. Severus swallowed as much of the chocolate as he could and spoke. “You have been using that damned mirror.”
“Yes I have, and you lied to me.” She whipped what was left of the chocolate from under his pillow and stood back from the bed where he couldn’t reach. “Oh dear, it seems to have shrunk, I wonder how that happened.”
Alright, so now you know. It is my one weakness wife, so stop tormenting me and give it here.”
“No way, I’m having what’s left. You would have eaten the lot if I’d left you any longer. Molly was right, you do love chocolate and Remus said you’d try and take it from me.”
“You have been discussing me?”
“Not as such no. But your trying to change the subject Severus, how could you be so petty about something so silly as chocolate?”
“I don’t know.” His voice had taken on a whining quality that Sky had never heard him use before. “It is my one weakness, much as I hate to admit it. I do not like to share it and when available, I cannot resist it. That is my only excuse. Were I to see you with a bar of chocolate, I would do my utmost to take it from you.”
“In other words, you’re a greedy selfish pig.” She told him haughtily. Sky sat on the chair nearest the bed and just out of Severus’ reach.
Facing him, she opened the wrapper and happily ate the remainder of the chocolate.
Severus’ eyes were glued to her mouth as she did so, his teeth gnashing. He could taste it and she was tormenting him on bloody purpose. It mattered not to him that he’d lied to her, that he’d stolen it from her in the first place. All he cared about right now was that she had chocolate, and he did not.
“Sky, you are cruel and sadistic. How could you do this to me?”
“I had a good teacher Severus.” She told him, popping the last piece into her mouth and tossing the wrapper into the bin.
His eyes narrowed at her accusation, but he said nothing. How could he, she’d spoken the truth. Nevertheless, she’d eaten all the chocolate and didn’t even save him one piece. Folding his arms he frowned.
Sky giggled. He looked like a sulky little boy. “I’m willing to share if you are.” She told him. “If we ever get any more that is.”
He raised an eyebrow, considering her offer. It might just be that she had another bar hidden away. “Very well, I am agreeable to that, however, regardless of what you have been led to believe, as much as I have a passion for chocolate, I do not indulge very often and it is true that it is bad for one’s teeth.”
“Mrs Weasley said it doesn’t matter because we can fix our teeth by magic.”
“Only up to a point Sky. Too many sweet things are not good for you. I only want what is best for you. When I first found you, you were suffering from serious malnutrition, I became accustomed to controlling your diet, and it has become a habit I find difficult to break. Which leads me to those revolting combinations of foods you have been ingesting lately? Liver and pickled pineapple?”
“Oh I don’t like that any more.”
“Thank Merlin for that.”
“I like cheese on toast now …with honey and horseradish sauce on top.”
“Oh dear Gods, are you serious?”
“Yeah, it’s lovely. You wanna try some?”
“I most certainly do not. I feel sick thinking about it.”
“You feel sick because you guzzled most of the chocolate.”
Severus was forced to sit in bed and watch as she ate this new delicacy for her tea. His own tray of food hardly touched as his stomach churned at the revolting mix she was devouring.
“Do you have to eat that in front of me, it is putting me off my food?”
Sky took a blob of honey on her finger and wiped it on his nose before taking her meal and moving out of his line of vision to eat. “Wimp.” She muttered.
“I am not a wimp, I just do not have your peculiar taste in food, and this honey is damned sticky.”
“I know, I have a jar full of it.”
“Why?”
“I’ll show you later.” She called from the sofa.
His eyebrows raised and his mood lightened considerably as he anticipated what they would be doing, but why did it have to be sticky honey? Still, he was not going to deny her this one little foible, or himself.
