Sansa: Your answers are coming, eventually. To tell you now would spoil the story. But keep asking. Might end up sending you the chapters by email since no ones interested enough to review and feed my muse.
Yes readers, that was a VERY blatant hint. I’m evil that way. Lol
Seriously though, Pease, if you are reading, it only takes a minute or so to leave a comment and it really helps the writer. A LOT.

Chapter 51
“Paula! Wh… what time is it?” Remus asked when he opened the front door of 12 Grimauld Place. He’d been woken by her incessant knocking, or rather by Mrs Black who screamed the house down after she’d been awakened by Paula’s incessant knocking.
“About six o’clock. Is no one up yet?”
“No.” He muttered, half trudging to the portrait and tugging at the drapes that normally covered the screeching woman behind them. He was still in his dressing gown and not fully awake yet.
“Go make tea, I will deal with her.” Paula said, pushing him out of the way.
Remus half stepped, half fell to the side as Paula brushed him aside and opened the drapes fully. She confronted the portrait and placed her hands against it.
Mrs Black began a new tirade of screams then quieted a little as she tried to figure out what this new person was doing. “You cannot remove me you know.” Hissed Mrs Black. “This is the Noble house of Black and you have no right to be here. Get out.”
Paula said nothing as she eyed the moving, screaming painting before her. Placing her forehead against that of the painted witch she spoke. “You are Prastlo. Jill. Jill te aves yertime mander tai te yertil tut o Del” (You are dishonoured. Go. Go pay for your shame) She clapped her hands loudly.
Remus jumped at the sudden noise.
Before Mrs Black had the chance to utter more of her vicious grievances, she slowly began to fade. The faint image shimmered for a few minutes, then settled back into view. Now though she was as still and silent as any muggle painting.
“Erm Paula, what did you just do?”
“I did what needed to be done, sent her on her way. She is at peace. Is that cup of tea ready?”
“Oh er… no I was just going to… at peace you say?”
“Go get Kingsley up and get yourselves ready. The day is wasting.”
Paula headed for the kitchen, leaving a somewhat speechless Remus at the foot of the stairs trying hard to recall what is was he was supposed to be doing.
Half an hour later, Remus, Kingsley, Tonks and a man Paula had not seen before all stumbled into the kitchen and flopped down at the table.
Paula slapped a large platter of bacon, eggs, sausage, black pudding and tomato’s on the table, along with a pot of tea and a rack of toast.
Within ten minutes signs of life were actually beginning to emerge from the three wizards and Tonks.
“What time is it?” Kingsley asked.
“Late.” Paula told him. “Are you nearly finished?”
“No, I’ve hardly eaten anything. How late?”
“Leave it Kingsley and eat, or she might send us the same way as Mrs Black.” Remus told him.
“Why, where’s Mrs Black gone?”
“I don’t know but she’s not screaming any more.”
“She is where she belongs. We are not.” Paula said, a scowl on her face.
“Wait a minute, what’s going on?” Tonks wanted to know.
“The painting is silenced, I have been here nearly an hour and these two” Paula indicated Remus and Kingsley. “are supposed to be escorting me to St. Mungo’s before noon.”
“Wocha goin there for?”
“To do what I must. Hurry up you two.”
“Gods, it’s no wonder Snape complained about you being a bossy boots.” Remus grumbled, shoving a piece of bacon in his mouth and grabbing a couple of extra sausages as he stood.
Kingsley copied him and trudged out the door with a ‘What have I let myself in for’ expression on his face.
Tonks chuckled into her tea.
Once inside St. Mungo’s, Remus and Kingsley led Paula to the lifts and pressed the button for the fourth floor.
“Fourth floor: Spell damage and refreshments.” A disembodied voice piped up.
“We want the Janus Thickey ward.” Kingsley said quietly. “That’s where they’ve been kept all these years.”
“Will we be disturbed?” Paula wanted to know.
“I have no idea, I hope not. Remus and I will do our best to keep the staff occupied while you… do whatever it is you do.”
Paula and Remus sat on the provided chairs while Kingsley produced a letter of authorization from Augusta Longbottom, stating that one Paula Vance had her permission to visit with and assess Frank and Alice Longbottom without hindrance.
The nurse at reception eyed them all suspiciously and took the letter to show her supervisor.
“This is most unorthodox Mr Kinsley.” The supervisor said. “They are already receiving the best possible care.”
“No one is disputing the level of care given here Matron. Miss Vance is an old family friend of the Longbottom’s and has experience in alternative healing. She merely wishes to evaluate the couple and has no intention of intervening with their treatment. She is here at Mrs Longbottom’s request, and she is the one paying for their treatment.”
The Matron scowled. “Very well, but you will all have to wait until breakfast is over. I cannot have my patients routine disrupted. It upsets them.”
“That is fine with us Matron. We can wait.”
It was almost an hour later when the trio were allowed to enter the room where Frank and Alice Longbottom both sat in easy chairs.
Alice was restrained with a strap across her waist to prevent her from falling out of the chair when she tried to stand on her own.
Frank sat staring intently at a spot high on the wall, a small dribble of saliva unhurriedly sliding down the side of his chin.
When Remus followed the mans gaze he saw nothing but the plain expanse of wall, much like the rest of the wall in the room.
Remus and Kingsley both found it extremely difficult to see the couple this way. They’d all been friends at one time, they’d fought together, laughed together, shared jokes and heartbreak together. Now those times seemed a million years ago.
Remus’ eyes filled with unabashed tears as he looked at the Longbottom’s and remembered the old days.
Kingsley simply turned to the window, watching the muggles in the street below as they went about their everyday lives, completely oblivious to the goings on inside what they believed to be an empty store, or the traumatic events that were sending all of wizarding England spiralling down an endless dark path of doom, death and despair.
“Please watch the door one of you.” Paula said as she made her way towards Alice.
Remus obliged.
Kneeling before the woman, Paula spoke to her. “Hello Alice, me som Paula.”
(My name is Paula)
Alice gave a lopsided grin, let out a low wail, then quieted.
Paula placed her hands gently on Alice‘s face, cupping her cheeks and gaining eye contact.
“Bhen, hear my glas. Chindilan? Del opre bhen, del opre. Palecido pain, tu trupos has zor, Merripen. Na diran. Opre Alice Longbottom, Knau pukker tute mande? Alice, cam.
(Sister, hear my voice. Are you weary? Spirit arise sister, spirit arise. Set apart your pain, your body has strength, life. Do not fear, now do though answer me? Alice wish, desire, love.)
