As he dried his robes off, Sirius grinned then snorted as the two snakes slithered in from the outside in fur coats that were the color as their scales and headed to find Harry. Though he and Remus had seen this before, it was still fucking hilarious. “That is still a right riot! I mean, there are warming charms to do the same thing,” he snorted to Snape.
“Yes, true,” Severus told him, looking smug. “Harry had those down pat, so he concocted this as a way to go further with some Charms work. As the snakes don't mind and it was actually a wonderful way to continue working on what he was learning, we voiced no objection. Besides, it helps protect Kaliya and Nagini from getting wet since we got that latest round of snow. The charms we used didn't do that well and neither of the serpents were pleased about dealing with the cold moisture that came from the melting snow as the charms on them came in contact with it.” Motioning the two to follow, he led them towards the library. It was now about three weeks from what would be traditionally winter break at Hogwarts. The three in the house had managed to stay safe while their world exploded. Though this wasn't the best way to deal with what was going on, as the danger was increasing with each passing day, it was working. He supposed that's all that mattered in the end. Black and Lupin had provided plenty of assistance in many areas to help them and do what they could to help stop the nightmare that was going on.Fudge was out. He was gone two weeks after the attack on Hogsmeade station. All his lies and denial had been laid out by every paper out there, save the Prophet. Even the Prophet had been taken to task by the other papers for what they had done, hurting them, badly. From what all of them could tell, most in the UK were now viewing anything written in it with a jaundiced eye and viewed it similar to a tabloid rather than a real news source. The UK Crystal Ball had stepped up then to become a daily paper rather than a weekly and they were doing a booming business because they were telling it like it was, reporting facts with only editorials speculating. And they were pulling no punches with anyone when it came to taking those to task that they thought weren't doing the right thing to end the war. It was perfect and what their world needed despite the danger it put some of the reporters in.Amelia Bones was the Minister of Magic and she was not one to trifle with. She was taking the fight to the other side in a way no one else ever had, even in the last war. And it wasn't only them, either. When it came to those on the so-called right side, she was as well. From what they knew from Black, Lupin and the papers, she had also taken after Albus, letting him have it both personally and publicly. While Albus hadn't done much, Amelia had blasted him, especially after Black and Lupin went to her and spilled everything, after getting the spells put on them that the Ministry used for confidential informants. What she was irate at was him not giving up information that could help all of them. And she took it to him, making it clear he was either helping or hindering. If it was the first, she would welcome it. If it was the latter, he was going to find himself in trouble that would land him in Azkaban. From what they heard, she had called him into her office and lambasted him over everything, demanding the information he had. They weren't sure what was said or how much the old man gave up, all they knew was she was still irate with him, making it clear to him, and the papers, he was to keep himself at Hogwarts at all times with no covert whatever taking place. One hint he was trying to maneuver around the Ministry to pull something and he was not only out as Headmaster, but in Azkaban for the duration of the war. From what Lupin and Black said, she was dead serious and Albus was worried, curtailing all but the most covert whatever he was up to. Good! The students in that castle needed him more than he needed to play his games.Black and Lupin told them all but two of the Horcruxes were gone. One was in Bella's vault, from what they could determine from information Albus had given up, something they passed along to Amelia, and the other was the Ravenclaw Diadem. No one knew where that was, including the old goat. Amelia had found a ring in an old shack and had it destroyed. Good! As far as any of them knew, Voldemort wasn't aware that the Horcruxes were gone. They were certain that was coming, though. Amelia was planning to go after Bella’s vaults with the help of Black, as she was sure one of them was in there. That would probably tip off the maniac and a worse hell would come when he realized all that was gone.As of now, it was bad enough. The Dark Lord was trying to make a play for the Ministry, but failing, thankfully. Rufus was gone, killed one night in his home. So were several other high ranking members. Amelia was trying to protect everyone the best she could and doing what she could to hold it off, including weekly checks for the Imperious on all Ministry employees, but it was still plenty bad. There was more, of course, but it was minor. The search for Harry was still going on, especially by Albus, but not so much by the Ministry as the war came first. Sirius had told Madam Bones about the Prophecy, something that he said made her seethe at more manipulations from what he said. While the hunt for Harry had taken a back burner to all that was going on, Madam Bones told Sirius and Remus, both, that it might be best to leave it alone if he was safe like the last notes that were found stated. If he did turn back up, he would get Ministry protection against both Voldemort and Albus, as they were all sure the old man wanted to use him. That was good. For now, as Harry was perfectly safe, they weren't going to worry about any of it.
“Bella and a few others have turned up then?” Remus asked, looking between the three. Nagini was draped over the back of his chair, her head on his shoulder. Though he was very unnerved by snakes, she was one he didn't mind as all she seemed to want from him was her head stroked. He could deal with doing so and petted her softly.
“Yes,” Lucius confirmed with a nod. “Both here and at every other property I have, from what the elves have reported. They've not focused on one in particular, but there have been showings.”“Bloody wonderful,” Sirius moaned, shaking his head. “Anything you can think of to help? We know he's gone after, and killed, several so-called traitors and those that have deserted him. We don't want him finding you.”“I've done something to throw him off and, hopefully, get him focused,” Lucius told him. “Yesterday, I made a covert foray to the Manor and locked the wards down, solid. Only I can get through them now. As that wasn’t the case before, that should get them to focus there. We hope, anyway. I'm going to say we leave it for now and see what he does. The elves at the Manor will keep watch for us. It's our hope that he will focus there as it shows something that hadn't been there before. If it grows worse, we'll see what else we can do to throw them off track. As it is, most of the properties they can't even see, let alone get into. That helps. The ones that are visible, I might be able to do something with.”“The only other bit we've come up with, if it does get worse, is a diversion to get him focused elsewhere,” Severus interjected. “What that might be isn't something we know, however.”“We might have that, Severus,” Remus told him softly, watching as Nagini slithered into his lap and curled up, head resting on the arm of the chair for more pettings.“What's that?” Lucius asked, curious.“Madam Bones is locking down the vaults of all known Death Eaters tonight after business hours. Once the goblins have them re-keyed, she's going in and looking for whatever it is in Bella's vaults. We're sure it's a cup by now. I'm damned sure that's going to unleash Fiendfyre as the insane arsehole is going to know what's contained in that vault.”“Sirius is turning Bella's vaults over after revoking her status in the House of Black. It's being done quietly with only a small handful of those in the Ministry knowing. As they are handpicked by Amelia herself, this is not going to leak out.”“That should set him off nicely,” Harry chuckled. As he was seated on the floor in his normal place where he worked, he shifted around then crossed his long legs, leaning back against the chair behind him. Then he smiled when he felt Lucius' hand on his head and one of Severus' on his shoulder.“We think so too,” Sirius grinned. Then he sobered up and added, “If she finds the damned thing, that leaves only one left. We think it's that Diadem, but aren't sure. Even if it is, we're not sure where the damned thing is. Amelia is trying to find hints about it, sending several Unspeakables to search for any clues about it, but there are no leads.”“We aren't even sure if Albus has any,” Remus added with a soft sigh. “If he does, he's not talking. He got a right bollocking from Amelia on plenty, so we're not sure if he's going to talk or just keep it more covert than before.”“Any leanings on what you think he'll do?” Severus asked. Then he added with a shake of his head, “I'm going with the latter what with all we know about him.”“We are as well,” Sirius admitted with a resigned shrug. “And we told Amelia that last night when we met with her. She's of the same opinion, which means we have to go it alone.”“What we were hoping was to pass along what research we have to all three of you and see if you can find something we can't to give us even a vague hint where to look for the blasted item,” Remus told them, looking between the three.“We'll take it on without issue,” Lucius assured him with a determined nod. “Leave all you have. If we find anything, we'll pass it along then you can put it out there the way you feel best.”“If you have to do research, give us the names of the books so we can include it. Going about it that way will make it look like we did the research ourselves and no one will question where we came up with the information,” Sirius told them.“We'll be sure to include it,” Severus told him. “We'll footnote and make it clear how we came to the conclusions we did.”“More research papers,” Harry laughed then he snickered with Lucius gave him a playful swat on the back of the head. After chuckling himself at what Harry said, Remus sobered up then pressed on to the next topic, “We talked to your solicitor, Lucius, just like you asked. As he received the owl from you with the instructions, he was more than happy to discuss the matters with us and is working on the issue of what he can do to make sure the two of you aren't charged when this is over.”“Does he have a line on anything that could help?” Lucius inquired, leaning slightly forward in his chair. While it wasn't time to worry about this overly much yet, that was coming, so he wanted as much in place as he could get before then so there wasn't a mad scramble when it ended or he and Severus finding themselves in Ministry custody until his solicitor could come up with a viable way to get them out of what charges might end up leveled.“So far there is nothing,” Sirius told him softly with a shake of his head. “The only way he sees so far is the one I mentioned to Harry at one point; a bonding of some kind to tie you together. If that's in place, and the one Kaliya did won't be the right sort, they can't get shite out of Harry that would implicate you in anything. The line would only need to be that he was protected by both of you, nothing more than that.”“There is one glitch in that way, but it's one we can easily overcome if it comes down to it,” Remus told them, looking between the three. Before they could ask, he pressed on, “Sirius could do the bonding. As he's cleared and is Harry's godfather, he's in a position to perform a bonding and no one can quibble that it's legal, despite Harry's age.”“Look, I'll lay it out here,” Sirius started, glancing between the three. “If it comes down to it and you three need that to keep the two of you safe, I'll do it. You have my word. No questions asked. Might not be what all of you want, but I cannot see you two landing your arses in Azkaban, something we all know will happen if all this comes out, over doing the right thing even if it didn't start out that way.”“It's something we'll consider as the time draws closer that this mess is ending,” Severus told him quietly. “Just not right now.”“Think about it seriously, Severus,” Remus added. “I don't think we have much time before the head comes and this war will end, one way or another. You've seen what is in the papers like we have. We're sure that taking Bella's vaults will set it off worse. The attacks and other manipulations are already more overt than they were before. We all know what the last war was like. This looks to end up no differently. That side and Albus might both be looking for Harry over that Prophecy, but we're sure it'll all blow up completely before that comes. If a confrontation happens, Amelia isn't apt to let it get drawn out. She wants this over and will do almost anything to get it there.”“A true assessment,” Lucius agreed with a nod. “Give us time. We need to discuss it. Unlike the bonding Kaliya did, there is no breaking the sort you're discussing. That's life altering, for all of us.”“We get it,” Sirius nodded. “Just—unless your shark can come up with something else, we don't have much to protect you from prosecution. Even this isn't the best, it just means that the only ones that really know what happened and were there can't talk as it would incriminate the other members of the bond. We might know, but no one knows that and it won't end up brought in.”“Understood,” Severus sighed, though he pushed that aside in favor of what was going on at the moment. Besides, he didn't want to admit to himself just how much he might want that bond. After tabling that proposal in his mind, Lucius pressed on to get the information they needed about what was going on that didn't make it into the papers. Black and Lupin didn't have much time before they might end up missed, so he wanted as much as he could get before they wanted to spend time alone with Harry. They wouldn't have much with Harry either before it was time for them to leave, so he wanted as much as they could give him. The more they had, the more questions they could ask. As that was their way of helping with the nightmare, they would do what they could.
As he watched out the balcony door, seeing the heavy snow fall, Harry sighed contentedly. It was plenty warm in here without feeling even a touch of the cold blustery wind that was driving the falling snow. Not to mention Kaliya was draped over him, hissing contentedly as well.
It was late, probably around eleven or so, but he didn't really care and wouldn't bother to check. Like always, Severus and Lucius had retired to their rooms for the night after they all spent time together playing a few hands of cards. That was the norm now and he loved it as they just talked as they did.Lucius and Severus—the mere thought of them made him smile. Since what would have been the start of the term the relationships had shifted slightly. They were closer now, pressing for relationships in another way. He finally learned that the two were as attracted to him as he was to them. Good! Lucius had admitted it easier and seemed more comfortable with the shift in dynamics. In fact, there had been a couple bouts of heavy snogging between them over the last month or so. Severus was a bit harder. Though he admitted it and the relationship had changed, it was slower going for reasons Harry didn't fully understand. From his perspective, as long as it was moving in that direction, it was fine, even if it did go plenty slow. He just didn't understand the why in the way he had Lucius. Severus seemed reluctant to talk about it as well. It was getting there, though, all that mattered to him. After shifting around and pulling the blanket over himself, making sure to not cover Kaliya all the way as the snake would overheat from that, he petted the content serpent on the head. “You know, call me strange, but I don't have a problem with the idea of being bonded with Lucius and Severus forever.”Once he got comfortable in the new position Harry had shifted them to and to where the covers didn't bother or make him too hot, Kaliya said, “I didn't think you would, Harry. You seem to enjoy how the relationship is going. What I get from the bond tells me that you are quite happy with all of it.”“I am,” Harry confirmed with a nod, looking down at the snake he saw as a friend now rather than just a strange pet. “It makes me happy. I think it does both of them as well.”“As do I,” Kaliya confirmed, head now resting on Harry's chest where he could get his head stroked.“Good,” Harry smiled. Though he then sobered up and sighed, “I see the point for them, though. I mean, I'm a lot younger, even if I don't look my age. Lucius still loves Narcissa and has a son my age. Severus' is his relationship with my mum all those years ago. Yeah, I can see where they would have problems with it.”“I don't see where those are insurmountable, Harry,” Kaliya told him honestly, giving a contented hiss as Harry stroked his head in just the right way. “Lucius is already leaning your way. It's Severus that is the issue.”“So, you think we should focus there?” Harry asked, looking down at the snake.“I think you and Lucius, both, should, yes,” the snake confirmed. While he wouldn't give up what he knew behind it, he thought the two, especially Lucius, could sort it out then deal.“I'll get with Lucius tomorrow and see what he says,” Harry told him, already trying to figure out how to go about it.“Good idea,” Kaliya confirmed with a contented hiss as Harry found 'that' spot and began to rub. “I know the three of you aren't the sort to sit and talk out what you're feeling, but this is one you might have to. There are concerns all around over it. While I don't know for sure, I'm wondering if they're worried about how your godfather will react. We know what he said today, which should lean them in that direction, but it's better that they know Sirius is aware and approves.”“Yeah, they might be worried about Sirius hexing them into the next century for it.” Harry chuckled. He had talked to Sirius, though was wary at first, about the attraction. Though blindsided, Sirius had discussed it with him to make sure it was for the right reasons. Then they spent several nights going over the why and all the other bits before he decided he approved. After all, the two were doing everything they could to protect and take care of him, neither of them saw a relationship forming from that as a bad thing.“A justifiable concern if you ask me, what with how your godfather is,” Kaliya told him with a hissy chuckle.“True,” Harry laughed, shaking his head. “I'll get with Lucius first then go from there. Between the two of us, we might be able to get Severus to see it our way.”“Severus will end up knowing he's outnumbered quite quickly,” Kaliya observed, sounding as amused as he was feeling. “That might get him moving.” He was actually sure it would as the man wanted the relationship as much as the other two did. From what he could tell it was just his own insecurities, self blame and other bad bits holding him back.“Yup,” Harry agreed with a grin. “We'll manage, between the two of us. Might just take some time.”“So, did you detect anyone lingering close on your last round around the property? We haven't seen anything on the mirrors or map, but want to make sure.”“No, nothing tonight,” Kaliya confirmed. “Even wizards are apt to stay in with the weather like it is. I do know you all have spells to keep yourselves warm and dry, but it's rather a frightfully bad night out there.”“It is,” Harry agreed, looking out the balcony doors. “I doubt that would deter some, but whatever is keeping them away is good.” Looking down at the snake, he added, “It makes good sleeping weather, though! Lets you snuggle down in the blankets and stay all warm while the wind makes a good soundtrack to sleep to. Which is something I think I'll do.”“Another wonderful point,” the snake admitted, shifting around so his Harry could get comfortable. Yes, this was going well. All they needed was Severus on board and they could go how they all wanted. He thought Harry and Lucius were more than up to that task, so he would let them have at it unless they hit a glitch. If they did, he would just help it along a tiny bit.
