Review Responses:
Severus1snape: So, I hooked another, huh? Not sure which four chapters you liked in your review though, heh. Snape will have things he didn't have in canon, maybe love, but not sure... I can't think of any canons that would match him realistically. As far as true happiness, it might not be possible with him?? One reviewer wants him to fall for Dahila, I am not against it, but I can't do that. Draco- *smirks* He's so much fun to torture. Thanks for reading and reviewing! Prepare yourself for more omgness and wows :)
imran ramji: Blake is a sadistic asshole. Dahila thinks she's a witch. Dumbledore is not too sure though, heh.
Staar: It's okay, she's not gonna kill the rat, hehe!
Chapter 51-
"Where are you going?!" Ron demanded as Dahlia got up from the table. "I thought you're going to heal my rat?!"
"Oh, I am." She drawled. "First, I'll need help with his diagnosis."
Harry had Scabbers and spoke encouraging words to Ron as she walked away from the group and up the aisle between the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff tables, stopping at the Head table, in front of Professor Dumbledore. The teachers had been speaking about something that they didn't wish for her to overhear and had all halted their conversation rather abruptly.
"Miss Dursley, hello." Professor Dumbledore greeted warmly. "What is it that we can do for you?"
"Harry and I would like to privately speak with you and..." she glanced at the sickly looking Professor Lupin, who sat next to Professor McGonagall. A surprised expression flooded his face when she looked at him. "Professor Lupin." She added, turning her head back to Professor Dumbledore. "Perhaps... maybe even Professor McGonagall too?"
"What do you wish to discuss?" Professor McGonagall asked curiously.
Dahlia had the whole table's attention. She gave the teachers an innocent smile. "Sirius Black." She said casually.
"There's nothing really to discuss with you about him." Professor McGonagall said, her nose flaring with fury. "Return to your table, if you would please, Miss Dursley."
"He knows." Dahlia told her. "Harry knows about him. Everything." She emphasized.
Professor McGonagall's face flushed from color, and many of the other teachers reacted by whispering to each other. Whispers Dahlia couldn't understand.
"Miss Dursley-"
"Minerva." Professor Dumbledore raised a hand to stop her. Professor McGonagall pressed her lips together so tightly that they paled. To Dahlia, Professor Dumbledore asked, "When would you like to hold this meeting?"
"Could we do it after dinner?"
Professor Dumbledore nodded. "Very well. We'll meet in the staff room."
"Be ready to arm yourselves." Dahlia warned them seriously. "And..." she glanced at Professor Snape who stared at her blankly, masking his own curiosity. "It would be best if you didn't attend, Professor Snape." She said very gently. "Emotions are going to be heavy enough." at that, she turned from them to return to Harry, but not without noticing the quirk of one of his eyebrows. She felt the eyes of the teachers on the back of her head. If this wasn't such a serious issue, she would have find it incredibly entertaining.
She'd gloat later when this was all over.
"They'll meet us when the students have been dismissed for the night." She informed Harry, and took Scabbers from him, forcing herself to pet the rat gently for Ron's sake. To keep Harry's friend at ease, she magically cleaned Scabbers, making his coat shine. She also avoided the rat's eyes, figuring it was a trigger to her terrifying vision of Blake's flesh eating rats. She didn't know why that man was so evil, and why he insisted that she was too, but he frightened her enough. After having that potion from Madam Pomfrey the night before, she was going to see if she could get some more to keep her nightmares at bay.
When dinner was through, Ron followed Harry and Dahlia to the staff room and they all waited outside for the professors that Dahlia requested to meet. She held Scabbers firmly, talking sweet words to him. "It's okay, Scabby." She said coaxingly, scratching behind his ears. "We'll get you all fixed up." Scabbers was fine with this until the professors joined them minutes later. 'Surprisingly', he became very nervous and started fidgeting to break free from her grasp. To prevent him from trying to bite her, as she feared he would end up doing, Dahlia froze his movements with her mind.
"Mr. Weasley too?" Professor McGonagall asked uncertainly, eyeing the students disapprovingly.
"It's his rat after all." Dahlia informed.
"Rat?" Professor Dumbledore questioned, as they piled into the room. "I thought we were going to be speaking about Sirius Black?"
A loud squeak erupted from Scabbers, and, even though he couldn't move on his own, his body trembled fiercely.
"We are." Harry spoke up. "No sense in keeping from me a person who is the fault of my parents' death. But-" Harry took Scabbers from Dahlia. "It was not Sirius Black who betrayed his friends. No, instead, it was this rat." Harry said bitterly, holding up Scabbers by the scruff of the neck.
"Harry, don't!" Ron shrieked, grabbing for his rat.
Harry twisted around, and Dahlia stepped between the boys. "You'll want to hear this." She told Ron.
"What's going on?!" He snapped. "Give me my Scabbers!"
"He's not a real rat, Ron." Harry explained.
"Mr. Potter-"
"No..." Professor Lupin whispered, interrupting Professor McGonagall. "It's not true..."
"Here's the proof." Harry set Scabbers onto the floor and stepped back.
"Get ready..." Dahlia told the professors as Harry pointed his wand at the frozen rat and cast a wordless spell that Sirius had taught him." There was a faint pop and the rat grew bigger, fatter, and finally into a Peter Pettigrew.
"It-it wa-wasn't m-me." Peter lied with a squeaky voice. His eyes darted around nervously, looking for a way to escape.
"Don't be anymore of a creep than you already are, Peter." Harry glared down at the man. "You framed Sirius! He would have died before he let my parents die. He would have died protecting me! Just as my Mum and Dad did! You are just a bloody coward!"
"Harry..." Professor Dumbledore gently spoke up, sensing Harry's building anger.
"I'm alright, Professor." Harry calmly raised a hand to him. "Now that this traitor is going to get what he deserves."
"No, i-it w-wasn't me! S-Sirius was the Secret Keeper, n-not me! He tried to k-kill me!"
"I thought you were dead..." Professor Lupin cautiously stepped up to Peter, gripping his wand tightly. "Why didn't you come to me?"
"I went into hiding! Sirius vowed to kill me!" Peter's face turned hopeful at the sight of his former friend, he inched to Professor Lupin on his knees, grabbing onto his robes. "Remus, you must believe me! Obviously the children have mistaken! Sirius must have brainwashed them!"
Professor Lupin narrowed his eyes. "If that's truly the case, then why did you live as a boy's pet rat?" He looked to Ron. "For how long have you had your rat for?"
Ron, who appeared to be going through a mixture of horror and confusion, lifted his eyes from his once companion to the professor. "Um... eleven years...?" his wide eyes of horror shifted back down to Peter.
"I w-was scared he'd come back f-for m-me." Peter withered.
"All while he was hauled up in Azkaban?" Professor Lupin asked suspiciously. "What, did you think he was going to break out? Something that was impossible to do?"
"Obviously he has strong powers! He's escaped now, hasn't he?!"
Professor Lupin tilted his head in contemplation.
"Don't fall for it." Dahlia warned him. "He truly is the reason your friends are gone."
"He murdered my parents!"
"Brainwashed!" Peter shrieked out shrilly. "They are only kids! Sirius could have told them anything and they'd believe it! Or, he could have imperioed them to say these things! Obliviated them!"
"I don't believe that their minds have been tampered with." Professor Dumbledore said very coolly.
"Dumbledore!" Peter gasped, he bowed for mercy. "Please, s-sir, you must b-believe me!"
Dumbledore looked between Dahlia and Harry, ignoring the man at his feet. "Perhaps you would like to finish?" He asked Harry.
Harry gave the Headmaster a nod. "Thank you. Dahlia?" Harry prompted, without looking at her.
"Let me show you the real truth behind your friends." Dahlia said to Professor Lupin who looked extremely confused. She shut her eyes tightly, drumming up a memory, focusing heavily onto it. Then, with her eyes still shut, she pointed to an empty corner in the staff room and created a very large hologram image so everyone in the room could see it.
It was fuzzy, like the reception of a Telly channel when it doesn't quite come in, but the picture was clear enough to see four figures sitting around a small circular kitchen table on a dark night. A light overhead provided enough brightness to see who the figures were. James and Lily Potter sat next to each other, Baby Harry sat in a high chair next to James, playing with a few pieces of cereal, and Sirius was next to Harry.
"It shouldn't be me. I really think you should choose someone else." Sirius said. "Everyone knows that you'd choose me."
"He's right, James." Lily put her head into her hands. Her hair was every which way, a mess from lack of sleep and the stress of her little boy's predicament. "Albus offered earlier. He may still do it." She said without looking up.
"No, it has to be someone He would never even consider..." Sirius tapped a finger onto the top of the table in deep thought. "Can't be Remus..." he whispered. "Given Voldemort's latest recruitments, I'm afraid his trustworthy is questionable."
"He would never!" Lily gasped.
"Padfo-"
"You really can't be sure." Sirius said firmly, cutting off James. "People, who we had never thought would, have turned to him." His voice then went hushed. "He is incredibly horrifying standing up against to, only those strong and brave enough have had the guts to refuse him."
Lily nodded in agreement.
"What about Peter?" Sirius suggested suddenly with lit up eyes. "He'd be the perfect Secret Keeper, no one would ever think that anyone would pick him. Everyone considers him pretty useless. Voldemort included."
James nodded. "It could work." He agreed slowly in thought.
"I don't know..." Lily wrinkled her face with worry. "That would make Wormy a target, wouldn't it?"
"He'd be safe though. No one is going to know about it. I would be the one they would look for, distracting the Death Eaters from him."
"Padfoot..." James eyed him questioningly. "Do you realize what's going to happen to you if they catch you? Do you understand the sacrifice that you are making?"
"Of course I do, Prongs..." Sirius swallowed hard, his voice croaked. " If the Secret Keeper dies, it'll be easier to find you. Which is why I am suggesting this. But it's all going to be worth it. I'll do anything I can to protect you, Lily, and the little Prongslet. Besides, haven't we've all been marked for death anyway?"
Lily bit her lip, her eyes filled with tears. "We never wanted this from you!" She whispered.
"I know that, but it's what friends do. You've all saved my life more than once. It is my turn now."
The hologram disappeared then. All wands were pointed to Peter.
Professor McGonagall sniffed quietly.
"No! Please!" Peter wailed. "Please! I was forced! Forced!" He finally admitted, seeing no way out. "He would have killed me if I didn't obey!"
"Enough of your rubbish!" Harry scowled. "Silencio!"
Professor Lupin's eyes were slightly puffy and red. "Where'd that come from?" He managed to ask through an emotionally layoured voice.
"It's from a memory." Harry answered.
"But who's?!" He demanded. "Who was the fifth person there? Who did we not see?"
"Me..." Dahlia announced in a whisper, looking at the ground to avoid any strange looks. "I can... see things."
"See things?" Professor McGonagall asked skeptically. "What things?"
"You won't believe me and frankly that really doesn't matter to me."
The woman looked down at her, narrowing her eyes irritably. "You think you are a Seer?" She let out a deranged laugh full of doubt. "Oh, Trelawney has done it this year!"
"I can prove it to you." Dahlia bit her lip. "But you really don't want me to..." She mumbled.
"Minerva, perhaps now is not the time." Professor Dumbledore urged in. "Let's address the situation involving Peter Pettegrew first." He earned a stiff nod from Professor McGonagall.
"Sirius Black is innocent." Dahlia said. "And he can provide the same memory from his own point of view. It'll match word for word. And..." she cocked her head, scowling down at the traitor who's face displayed a realization of horror that he had lost his argument. "There's a certain potion that can make this rat speak the truth, something he seems to have no idea how to do."
"He's the real Death Eater. Not Sirius." Harry informed. He flicked his wand to magically pull up the sleeve to Peter's robes, revealing the Dark Mark. That, alone, was enough to make their teachers believe what they had been trying to tell them.
