Harry shuddered as he closed the door behind him, remembering events during his search and rescue mission.
He had found Antonin Dolohov guarding Severus’ cell, and had engulfed him almost before the man had noticed him. He had had time to pale and open his mouth, but Harry was wrapped around him before he could scream, compressing him and feeling the man slowly dissolving within his folds. He was faster than a regular Lethifold, as the whole ordeal of eating the man had taken but half an hour. Harry had grabbed the wands that had dropped to the ground, tucking Severus’ wand into a pocket before he transformed back, and headed for the cell at the end of the corridor he was in.
So he had killed.
He would do it all over again, and would probably be fine with taking out a few other Death Eaters, and it was all because they had hurt. His. Mate.
His to protect, his to love, and they had taken him.
They would never do it again.
Harry let out a soft sob, sinking to the floor. He had failed Severus, he didn’t protect his mate, and now he lay abed, injured and hurting, recovering from the ordeal Harry should have kept him from.
Lucius came out of his room across the hall and sat beside Harry. “Are you alright?”
“It’s my job to protect you. Both of you. I’m a failure.” Harry whispered.
Lucius wrapped an arm around him. “Severus chose to leave, you couldn’t have known, he couldn’t have known, that this time would be different. It was all in the timing, and this was always a risk he took. He knew that. He chose to go anyway.”
“He’s not going back.” Harry growled.
Lucius laughed softly. “I doubt he will disagree with you now. How is he doing?”
“He’s asleep.” Harry said. “Tired, cold, hungry. I gave him some of that broth Molly prepared for him, and he warmed up some, but he clearly wants real food. He needs a bit before he is ready for that, though.”
Lucius smiled. “You’re going to mother him until he is recovered, aren’t you?” He teased. “He will not appreciate that.”
“I don’t care. He needs to be looked after, and my vampire is overprotective right now. He’ll have to accept that fact.”
“Why aren’t you in there with him?” Lucius asked.
Harry sighed. “I killed Dolohov. I… Needed to let the horror out. Alone. Lucius, I liked it! He tasted good, his terror was delicious, and I wanted more.” He admitted.
Lucius nodded. “You have Dark Creatures inside you, that is only to be expected. You can and will overcome it, though. Vlad told you to embrace your Darker side, you can do this with the Ethologus, too. Let it meld with you, and just make sure your rational mind is in charge. A little indulgence for your dark side will not be awful, as long as you only go after those that harm others. Use the darkness to protect, and it will all be fine.”
Harry hummed. “I suppose I'll just have to be careful. I’m going to go watch over Severus again, now that I'm calm.”
Lucius smiled at him. “Your dinner will be up in half an hour; I will be in half an hour after that for your Feeding.”
“Severus doesn’t need to see that.” Harry said. “He already has insecurities, let's not make them worse.”
“Actually, I believe it would do him some good. I have been trying to open the topic of the three of us being together, but he is surprisingly resistant to the idea. I propose we give him a preview of what he could have at his fingertips. He might not be so against it, then.” Lucius said.
Harry sighed. “Fine, but if it bothers him, we leave the room from then on. I don't want him stressed.” He said.
Lucius nodded. “I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I think he only needs a little push to see it as a viable option.” He said in amusement. “Wait and see.”
Harry snorted and went back into his room, sitting in the chair he had placed beside the bed and taking Severus’ hand in his own. He held it, stroking it and brushing kisses across the back of it, praying for Severus to recover quickly. He hated to see him looking so weak. It was all wrong, his mate was meant to be spitting vitriol and throwing acidic looks at everyone, not lying here wounded and fragile. “Get better, my love.” Harry whispered softly. “I’m lost without you.”
“You haven’t lost me yet, idiot.” Severus rasped, opening one eye. “Water.”
Harry smiled wryly and poured him a cup. As he held it to Severus' lips, he chuckled. “Never thought I'd be so happy to be called an idiot.” He quipped.
Severus' eyes conveyed a clear, ‘You are,’ and Harry just smiled wider. “Did you get my wand?” Severus asked once the water was gone.
Harry nodded. “I have it, and you will get it once you are recovered enough. You can’t cast anything right now, anyway, so be patient.”
“Brat. What time is it?”
“Eleven. My meal will be coming soon. I’m temporarily nocturnal again.” Harry said wryly.
Severus winced. “I’m sorry.” He said quietly.
Harry gaped at him. “What? No! Don’t be, I don’t mind it, I just want you safe! Everything else is secondary, and it doesn’t matter right now, anyway. Everyone here knows, I can afford to be a night owl right now, and you’re in no shape to be brewing. Or bloodletting. I failed you and let you get hurt, now I need to guard you and make sure you get better. The potion means nothing without my mate. If I don’t have you, I don’t want to go on. You know I love you, Severus, I love you the most! You were the first, you’ll always be the most precious! Let me do my job and watch over you while you focus on getting better.”
Severus cleared his throat. “I should try to sleep some more.” He was obviously discomfited by the speech Harry had given, and his cheeks were tinged with a hint of pink.
Harry smiled and brushed a lock of hair off his forehead. “Fine, go back to sleep. I’ll be here when you wake; I’m always here.” He added, then brushed a kiss over Severus’ forehead.
Severus huffed. “I’m not a child.”
“You’re my mate; let me show you affection. It’s just us two right now.”
“Fine.” Severus said reluctantly.
Harry sat beside him stroking his hair as Severus slipped back into sleep.
*****
“Dinner time.” Lucius said warmly as he entered the room, making Harry startle and jerk upright. “Did you not hear me coming?” Lucius asked.
Harry flushed. He should have. He shook his head. “No, I was listening to Severus’ heartbeat and watching him breathe. I was completely focused on him.” He got up and stretched. “He’s doing well for now.”
Lucius took the chair and moved it over to the desk, where he had set the tray. “Eat. I also brought some broth and tea for Severus. We can wake him once you’ve finished so he can get something in him. There is also a nutrient potion and a few cubes of cheese, to get him eating at least something solid.”
Harry frowned. “Is dairy a good idea right now?” He asked, worried.
“Poppy assures me it is the usual food to break a fast; it is easy to digest, and Severus does so like cheese. He will enjoy it.” Lucius said.
Harry hummed. “If you say so.” He said mildly, taking a bite of the rare steak on his plate and eating, though he didn’t much feel like eating right now. He felt he should be punished for letting Severus down, and before, that had usually meant going without food. But with Lucius watching, he found he didn’t want to go through with his self-flagellation. The blond would not let him, at any rate.
He finished his food under Lucius' gaze, and the man motioned to the broth. “Would you like to wake him?”
Harry nodded and went over to Severus. “Love, it’s time to get up. Lucius brought you some more broth and some tea.” He said, gently running a hand over Severus' arm.
Severus opened bleary eyes and shifted into a sitting position with Harry's help. Lucius handed over the broth and Harry held the bowl to Severus' lips. Severus glared at him. “I can do it!” He snapped.
“Your hands are still shaky, Severus. You know you don't have to put on airs for me.” Lucius said. “When have I ever called you weak?”
Severus flushed, but let Harry slowly feed him the broth, eyes flicking between the two. Harry held up the cup of tea next. “Tea?” He offered.
Severus sighed. “It will be horribly watered down, I know Poppy, but why not?” He asked.
Harry helped him with that, too, then handed him the small plate of cheese cubes. “She said you can start back on solid foods. Slowly, and chew them thoroughly.”
“I know!” Severus snapped, and ate the cheese. “There. You can leave now, Lucius.” He said.
“I think not.” Lucius said. “It's time to see to Harry's hungers. Both the Ethologus and the Vampire need to be fed. And you are in no position to feed his Vampire yet.”
Severus scowled. “Then take him to your room!” He snapped.
“No. He can be fed here just as easily, and you need to see what you are throwing away before I will be satisfied that you have fully understood the offer.” Lucius said firmly. “If you still don't want to share your time with either of us, we will continue as we have been and there will be nothing more said about it.”
Severus glared at him.
Lucius stared impassively back.
Severus inclined his head once. “I will watch and see if I can handle seeing you two together. If I can, we will try it.” He said.
Lucius smiled and nodded back. “First, the Ethologus.”
Harry nodded and moved forward, but he sensed an uncertainty in Lucius and the Ethologus knew its mate was not at ease. He let out a musical croon, and saw Lucius relax more, and then leaned in and kissed him.
The Wards, as always, made him ravenous, and he drank deeply of Lucius’ magic, pulling away abruptly, panting. “God, that never gets easier.” He whispered. “Sorry.”
Lucius chuckled. “The Black house simply wants you to let loose, it’s to be expected. I came prepared for the next.” He said, drawing out a blood-replenishing potion.
Harry nodded, and led him to the chair. He sat and pulled Lucius onto his lap, facing Severus.
Lucius tilted his head. “I know I’m not as good as Severus, but even though you can smell him now, you still can’t take from him yet. So, again, I bleed so that you may live.” He offered.
Harry sighed and brushed his hair aside, then bit.
Lucius moaned, hands fisting in the fabric of Harry’s trouser legs as Harry drank from him, taking long swallows of the life-sustaining elixir.
Severus was watching raptly, stunned by the vision they both made, Lucius flushed with passion and getting paler by degrees, and Harry, pale as moonlight, gaining a flush as he fed.
Harry pulled away, and Lucius lifted a shaky hand to his mouth, drinking down the potion.
“He doesn’t usually need that much.” Severus said, frowning.
“He does.” Lucius said. “Have you never noticed the red ring around his irises most of the time?”
“He wasn’t starving.” Severus snapped.
“Not quite, but getting closer than I like. Also, the Wards here feed his hungers even more. He can’t stop when he used to, he needs to take more. It is risky, but I am still here.” Lucius said calmly.
Severus glared at him. “We can try sharing him. When I am better. Now, get out of here. I am going to take my nutrient potion and go back the fuck to sleep!” He snapped.
Lucius smiled, placed one more quick kiss on Harry’s lips, and left the room.
Harry helped Severus take his potion and as the man nodded off, he mumbled, “I only hope you can handle both of us at once, Harry.”
Harry grinned.
He was certainly willing to try!
