Chapter 52: The Darkness Returns
Hermione sat on her bed shaking uncontrollably. She had so wanted to hex that old man into outer darkness. Her hands were gripping her wand so tightly she thought she was going to snap it into two pieces. How dare he threaten her son? Also, it was a pretty ballsy move to do it in front of other people. She needed to make sure tonight that he understood that he would either leave her and her son alone or he would die. She was going to protect her young son at all costs. This is where she needed Tom helping her. She had never felt so vulnerable. Sirius would never believe her if she told him everything that Dumbledore had done to her and Tom. Gryffindors believed that Albus Dumbledore walked on water and that he was perfect and kind. There were a select few that knew how manipulative and sadistic the bastard could be. Hermione chose carefully to dress in clothes that would allow movement in case she needed to fight him tonight. Hermione thought back to what she had worn when she had dueled Tom in Defense Against the Dark Arts class. It had given her power to wear something so suggestive. Considering where she was going tonight, she had to wear something more conservative. But by God, she was going to get her point across to this wizard that she and her son would be left alone…or else.
Tom knew that tomorrow would bring something he wanted, information about Hermione and Thomas. It was just another task to finish up in his list of things to do. You know, kill a few Muggles, blow up a town, and sleep with a Goddess: All in a days work in the life of Lord Voldemort. He actually laughed at himself. There hadn't been too many things to laugh about recently. With Dumbledore's blasted interfering Order, dealing with young Death Eaters that didn't match up to their predecessors, and now recently searching for Hermione and Thomas to no avail. Things had been going along so well for him and Hermione before Dumbledore had taken her away from him. They had been so close to graduation and the baby being born. The more Tom thought about what the barmy Dumbledore had done, the angrier he became. Now, it was only a matter of time before the old codger went after his heir. He had to be stopped before anything could or would happen to Thomas. First things first, get the night over with and then his plan to secure those who belong to him.
Hermione smiled as they apparated to the Weasleys. It felt like coming home as she stood looking at the Burrow. There was no one that she could share that with, but deep in her heart it brought some peace to her as she contemplated what she needed to do tonight. Walking through the door she saw a much younger Molly Weasley bustling about the kitchen. Mr. Weasley sat at the table holding a crying 6-month-old Ronald Weasley. Hermione couldn't help but smile to see another of her best friends alive again. His bright red hair stuck out all over his head. She walked over to him and smiled down at baby Ron. His big blue eyes looked into hers and he immediately stopped crying.
"Blimey, would you like to come round more often? All this baby seems to do is cry unless we're feeding him." Mr. Weasley held him up again and gave him to Hermione. "He likes you…a lot."
Hermione didn't know whether to laugh or cry when he mentioned that he was only happy when he was eating. That explained a lot about the large appetite he always had.
Sirius stepped near the table, "Mr. Weasley this is the woman we've been telling you about. Hermione MacMillan, meet Arthur and Molly Weasley."
"It's a pleasure to meet both of you. Your son is quite the bouncing baby." Hermione made more faces at the baby who laughed at her silliness. Running into the kitchen were two look-alike toddlers screaming loudly. One was trying to hit the other one with a small broom.
"Fred and George you stop that right now. Do not hit your brother with that broom Fred." Molly threw her hands in the air. "I don't know if I will live long enough to raise those two. They are always in some mischief or another." Hermione again tried not to burst into laughter. Molly at this point had no idea what was ahead with those two wild boys. They were actually very cute, but she couldn't tell which brother was which at this age.
"How many children do you have Molly?" Hermione politely asked even though she knew the answer.
"I have six boys, Ron is my youngest. I'm feeling very tired these days. It's the two-year old twins that are aging me quickly." Molly collapsed into a chair. "If I'm not constantly watching them I'm always sorry about it later."
"Hermione, didn't you just have a baby before Lily?" Mr. Weasley inquired.
"Yes, our boys are about a month apart. My son Thomas is a good baby." She was missing him already tonight, but knew that there was no way in hell she would have brought him. A house elf from Hogwarts was staying with both babies while their parents came to the meeting tonight.
Lily piped up, "We are having a fun time raising our baby boys together." She smiled at Hermione who was still enjoying playing with Ron.
"Good evening everyone." Remus Lupin came through the Burrow door. "Am I late for dinner?" He looked around the room looking for food.
"No Remus, you're just in time. How about you and Sirius come and help me set the table and serve the food." Molly was being her bossy self, but if also felt comforting in a way. It had been nice getting to know Harry's parents, but the Weasleys had been like family to her during her years at Hogwarts.
After dinner, the rest of the Order of the Phoenix members arrived at the Weasley home. The living room had been given an expansion charm so that all the members could fit comfortably. When Professor McGonagall arrived she looked at Hermione her eyebrows lifting up high. Of course she had recognized Hermione, as she hadn't aged at all since the last time they had been around each other at Hogwarts in the 40's. She gave a tight-lipped nod in her direction and went and sat down. Next came the Longbottoms whom were vaguely familiar from pictures she had seen and from the time she had seen them at St. Mungos. Of course they were younger and more coherent now before being tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange. In Alice's arms was baby Neville, soundly sleeping. It was such a peculiar thing to see all of her schoolmates as babies. Lastly, Albus Dumbledore came a minute before the meeting started. Smiling at everyone, except Hermione, he called the meeting to order. Not much was discussed when he asked Minerva to take over in leading the meeting. He walked back to where Hermione was sitting between Lily and Sirius.
"Now would be a good time to talk." He didn't ask, he just told what he expected and assumed that everyone would follow him.
"I will meet you in the shed round back of the house Dumbledore." Hermione rose and walked out the back door. Sirius started to stand when James gripped his arm and pulled him back down. The three friends looked at one another with concern, as Dumbledore followed Hermione out the door.
Hermione waited in the dark shed for her nemesis to enter. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath trying to control her feelings. Tom had always told her that her powers would be stronger if she could control her emotions. She quickly went through her plan before Dumbledore got there.
As Dumbledore came into the shed, Hermione, wandless, closed the door and locked it using a Curse-dependent locking spell. This Dark Arts spell tied the integrity of the lock to a floating eye curse that was in place over in the meadow out of sight. The door would remain magically locked so long as at least one floating eyes curse remained in place. Dumbledore whipped around looking at the door. "Clever girl. But do you really want to be locked in here with me for an exorbitant amount of time?" His pompous nature only made it harder for Hermione to stay calm and levelheaded.
Before Dumbledore could smirk again, Hermione cast a spell, "Everte Statum," and he was thrown into a corner onto a pile of old crates. Simultaneously she also cast the curse, "Incarcerous Momentum" and thick black ropes came out to tie Dumbledore's hands and feet together.
"You are foolish if you think this silly spell will hold me." Dumbledore squirmed around trying to get out of the ropes. As he was chanting other spells the ropes only grew tighter and tighter.
"Au contraire, you big piece of shite! The more you try to wiggle your way out, the tighter the ropes will bind you." Hermione went and removed his wand and tossed it in the farthest corner of the shed.
"Is this something your boyfriend Voldemort taught you?" He grimaced as he stopped trying to break free. His limbs were already starting to go numb. The hatred clearly showed on his face when he uttered The Dark Lord's name.
"Why yes! This one and many more…shall I show you more?" Her confidence was growing as the feeling of using dark magic was seeping into her soul. "You are going to answer some questions or I may try one of my favorite Dark Spells on you."
Dumbledore glared at Hermione, "What would that be? Avada Kedavra?"
"Of course not, that would be too fast. I want to see you suffer slowly, just as you made me suffer." She stood back a way as she continued, "I want to see you in pain, to experience what you put me through that night on the astronomy tower."
Dumbledore said nothing as he held still, not wanting to tighten the ropes that held him bound.
"Why? Why did you send me through time when I was eight months pregnant? You could have killed me and my baby." Hermione could feel the deep, dark fury building inside of her. There had been plenty of time to think about what had happened and it was coming to a crescendo.
"I think you have already figured this out haven't you? Yes! I wanted you and the baby dead. I wanted Tom to fall apart along with his Death Eaters." The ugly sneer on his face grew wider.
"The only thing you truly accomplished was to start this war and escalate it into what it is today. How many people have died because of your selfishness? You are a manipulative bastard! How many more people will have to die before it ends?" Hermione's imposing figure only grew more impressive as she shouted out her fury.
"I'll tell you who dies. You know I was there to witness it all. Harry Potter will die at the hand of The Dark Lord. So will Ron Weasley, Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, Hagrid…" Hermione went on to list all the names of people who had died by the end of the great battle that had taken Harry and Ron from her. "That doesn't even include the many people who will die here in the first war, including Harry's parents." Hermione's eyes were blazing a golden brown color. Her hair seemed to be sparking electricity as she spoke.
"Why are you blaming me? Your precious Tom is the evil one. He is the one that hates anyone that isn't pureblood. Kill him and his son and the problem is solved and then lives will be saved. Wake up little girl." If he were loose Hermione could tell he would be wringing her neck.
"Most people don't see this side of you, do they Albus? You are more evil inside than Tom Riddle Jr. could ever be." She walked closer to the fuming wizard pointing her wand at him.
Hermione spoke clearly and precisely. "You are going to listen to me now. You will leave my son and me alone." Hermione flicked her wand slicing Dumbledore's neck. The blood trickled down staining his robes. Hermione cast a dark curse that stung when pronounced something that the wizard had never heard before. Then she sliced her own neck casting the same curse. This shocked Dumbledore as he saw the blood trailing along Hermione's neck and dripping to the floor.
"Now I'll know if you are within a mile of me. The closer you get the more pain you will be in and likewise for me. If you do anything to hurt my son here is what you will feel." Hermione said the curse, "Adlambo Inplico Penitus," and Dumbledore cried out in pain. As he shuddered he yanked the black cords even tighter. "Do you feel the burning inside? This curse is burning you from the inside out. It's a slow process that starts with the lower organs and then eventually will crisp your heart." Hermione whispered a counter curse that he couldn't hear and the burning stopped. The sweat was rolling profusely off his face. "The curse will lay dormant in your system until I wish it to flare up again." She couldn't help but sneer back at the man.
"You are just as evil as Voldemort aren't you? Should I tell Sirius and the Potters of your true nature?" He hissed the words with as much hatred as he could.
"Payback old man, payback! This is for what you did to Tom and me. This is what you did to Harry and so many people who believed in you. They thought you were on the side of the light and were doing these things for the greater good of everyone in the wizarding world." Her voice filled with all the emotion that had built inside of her for years. "It was done in selfishness for your glory. Your manipulations were never brought to the forefront until after your death." Dumbledore showed no emotion on his face listening to Hermione's accusations. He only continued to sit quietly and stare at her until she finished.
"You think that what Voldemort is doing will be for the better good? You are deadly wrong Hermione. Tom is the selfish one wanting all the glory. He has manipulated you and you don't even see it. You need to get a clue and realize that the Dark Lord doesn't know how to love and he will disappoint and betray you someday."
"Shut it you fool! You don't know him like I do!" Hermione was trying to hold her emotions in check, but was losing the fight. Her eyes betrayed what she was really feeling inside. Dumbledore was only adding to some of the doubts that had crept into her mind since she'd been sent to this time period.
"He has changed since you were with him years ago. The Dark Lord is not your Tom that you fell in love with at Hogwarts. He has lost his soul Hermione; he can't be saved." Dumbledore stared at her without the hatred that had been there earlier. "Make a life with Sirius Black and be happy."
Hermione turned away from him so he couldn't see the tears that were falling. She didn't need this man messing with her already confused feelings and thoughts. "The cords will release as soon as I apparate away from here." Her words could barely be heard, "Just remember what I said about my son." She looked over her shoulder to meet Dumbledore's eyes, and he nodded to her. Hermione dropped the locking spell and apparated back to the Potter's house. She needed to hold her baby to find some measure of comfort.
As Hermione had said, the black cords fell away as soon as she left and they disappeared as they touched the ground. Dumbledore looked down at his bluish grey skin, grimacing as the blood started flowing back into his limbs. It hurt like knives being stuck into him. It would be another thirty minutes before he would be able to stand and go back into the house. As he entered the Burrow without Hermione, Sirius became worried.
"Where is Hermione?" Sirius grabbed Dumbledore's arm. The older wizard pushed Sirius away. He had already put up with too much foolishness tonight.
"The bitch is gone and I never want her around me again. You would do good to stay away from her too." Dumbledore stumbled to the sink for a drink of water. One foot seemed to drag along the ground.
A worried Sirius glowered at the Headmaster and sprinted out of the Burrow. What had happened between Hermione and Dumbledore? He was on his way to find out and try to get some answers from the ever-evasive woman that he was quickly falling in love with.
I'm ending this here. Wow! I had no idea the scene with Hermione and Dumbledore would go so long. The dark Hermione made an appearance that we haven't seen in a while. I promise that there will be more of the Dark Lord in the next chapter…and of course Flamina. Please send some awesome reviews!
