Harry frowned down at the letter. “I don’t want to right now—”
“I can watch over Severus while you are gone.” Lucius offered.
“I know. And I know I need to. There is a spare bedroom on this floor, and Dumbledore said he can create return Portkeys to land Blaise just outside his home’s Wards. So I have no excuse to say no.” Harry mused. “And the incubus is ravenous.”
“So go say yes, and send the message with Dumbledore’s Phoenix. It will get there fast enough.” Lucius said.
Harry sighed and went to write a quick reply.
Lucius smiled.
Zabini had the right idea, even if cheering Harry up hadn’t been his sole intention. Harry needed a distraction right now, since Severus would soon unleash the full fury of his acid-tipped tongue on the poor boy as his health returned, and he needed to be able to count on the support of his other two mates under the onslaught of what his vampire would certainly see as a rejection.
And Lucius would need Zabini’s help to ensure that Harry bore up through the fight he’d need to wage to weather the coming storm.
If he and Zabini could keep Harry alive through the coming ordeal, both Harry and Severus would find themselves with a deeper connection to each other than Lucius had conceived of them having within the first year of their relationship. It had taken Lucius three years of knowing Severus to find the hateful man he became when trying to push someone away, and it had taken knowing the man like he did to realise that he was intentionally going after weak spots. Once he had seen that, he had refused to be pushed away and had broken through the armour Severus had built around himself and the man had finally let himself be weak in front of Lucius without fearing that he’d lose the older man.
They had shared things Severus usually buried deep down inside himself since then, because Severus had finally felt secure enough in Lucius’ affections to let himself be the damaged and vulnerable man he truly was.
Harry needed to see that side of him before Lucius could be sure that the Vampire was safe from rejection, but the perilous part of getting to that level was the false rejection that would come before the reconciliation.
Harry would need them, and Lucius was prepared to be there for him.
He truly hoped Zabini would do the same.

Harry tugged at his dress robes’ collar. “It itches.” He complained.
Lucius tilted his chin up with a finger and told him sternly, “You look delectable. Stop fidgeting and ruining the effect.” Then he kissed him lightly. “Go on, Dumbledore is downstairs waiting to Apparate you to Italy. Be good, then come back here and be bad. And then you can send your little dominant back home and you can get some sleep so I can have you the next night.” He added with a smirk.
Harry laughed. “Alright, I’ll see you in the wee hours of the morning after he leaves for a goodnight kiss, then. To tide you over until then.” He agreed, then headed downstairs.
Dumbledore held out his arm. “The sun has just gone down over there, so you should be fine. This is the Portkey back here,” He handed over a handkerchief, “the activation phrase is Phoenix. Use it if you need to make a quick escape, Mr. Zabini knows how to handle himself, his mother has assured me.” He added.
Harry took a deep breath and nodded. “Yes, Sir.”
Dumbledore held out his arm. “Let’s be off, then.”
The disappeared in a whirl of colours and landed in an alley.
“Harry?” Blaise’s voice came from the end of the alleyway and Harry saw his mate step into the light. “Hello, gorgeous.” He said happily. “Miss me?”
“I’ll leave you two young men to it, then. Have a good time, my boy.” Dumbledore said before leaving.
Harry smiled and went to meet Blaise. “Yes, I missed you. It’s been a full week, Blaise, what took so long?”
“Mother wanted to make sure tonight was perfect, and she also was very upset that we haven’t had a proper date yet. For that, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to make it seem like I didn’t value you the same as anyone else. You deserve a proper courtship, and I was remiss in not providing that without being reminded to.” He was flushing just a bit, Harry could see.
Harry smiled. “It’s fine, I don’t think you take me for granted. I don’t need all those fancy dates and stuff, I just need you.” He said, taking Blaise’s hand.
Blaise smiled sheepishly at him. “You are far too forgiving. And it makes what I did to you—to us—so much worse.” He opened Harry’s hand and kissed the palm, then drew a small box out of his pocket. “I did get you something, too. Just something small.”
Harry took the box and opened it. “Oh.” It was a small locket.
“There are pictures of all three of your mates inside. Each was taken at the beginning of their sixth year.”
Harry opened it and it folded out to reveal three heart-shaped pictures. His breath caught at the three faces, two of them looking younger and more carefree than he’d ever seen them. “Thank you.”
“It’s not much, but I was able to find those pictures of them, and this puts us all on even footing. I don’t want my youth and beauty to give me an unfair advantage over them, after all.” He teased.
Harry snorted. “Trust me, you’re not in competition with either of them, there’s enough love in my heart to go around.”
Blaise took his hand and tugged him forward. “I believe you. Come on, there’s a good restaurant this way that serves French cuisine. I had to explain to Mother that you were also a vampire, so Italian restaurants were probably a bad idea.” He grinned. “Unless you can have garlic?” He checked.
Harry winced. “Not even a little bit.” He informed the Italian.
“Didn’t think so. It’s a pity, really, we have good food here. I’ll cook for you sometime and leave out the garlic.” He offered.
“You can cook?” Harry asked.
Blaise gave him a droll stare. “Every Zabini learns to cook. Mother won’t have it any other way. We don’t keep elves and we are very proud of our culinary prowess.” He lowered his voice and added, “Rumour has it my father insulted her cooking once, and that’s why he’s dead.” He grinned. “She refuses to either confirm or deny that.”
Harry’s eyes widened. “I’ll keep that in mind.” He said as they entered the restaurant.
Blaise led him to the host and told him his name, and they were led to a quiet table near the back.
“Can you drink wine?” Blaise asked Harry.
Harry frowned. “Some of them. Some reds are okay. Lucius and I had a taste test last night. Fuller-bodied ones work the best. White is definitely out.” He explained.
Blaise looked at the list and ordered a deep red wine.
As the waiter hurried away to get the wine, Blaise cocked an eyebrow at Harry. “I thought Snape would be the one to try you on wines. He knows more about vampires, I thought.”
Harry sighed. “He does. But he went to see Voldemort when he got called, and... Voldemort threw him in the dungeons. I had to go rescue him, so he is stuck in bed until he recovers.” Harry hung his head. “And it’s my fault.” He whispered.
Blaise’s eyes widened. “No, gorgeous, it’s not! He knew the risks, he’s been part of the group for how many years, and he still thought he wouldn’t find out? These things never stay a secret, not in Hogwarts! He took a risk, you are not to blame! And you said you got him out? How badly off is he?”
Harry waited until the waiter had served their wine and left again, then picked up his menu as he told Blaise, “He’s getting better. He’s in a foul mood, though.” He said in amusement.
“That sounds like him.” Blaise agreed lightly.
They ordered their food and chatted about other things, Harry telling Blaise about Draco’s attitude lately, and Blaise chatting about his mother’s ideas for welcoming him into the family. “She’ll love you, but don’t be surprised if she comes on a bit strongly; she is a force to be reckoned with sometimes, but she means well.”
“I’ll keep that in mind.” Harry said.
“I never really asked about your lessons with Hagrid and Snape.” Blaise mused. “How are the herpetology studies going?”
Harry winced. “We've studied flobberworms, tadpoles and frogs so far.” He told Blaise.
The Italian made a face. “So dreadfully dull?” He asked.
“Yes.” Harry said, then laughed. “Hagrid claims That saving the most interesting things for last is the way to go.”
“So basically mind-numbingly boring, then snakes?” Blaise asked.
Harry grinned. “Mind-numbingly boring, then dragons, then snakes.” He corrected.
Blaise frowned. “How the hell is he going to teach you about dragons?” Blaise asked as their food arrived.
“Hopefully not by getting another egg.” Harry answered, then flushed at his slip of the tongue.
“Another egg?” Blaise asked. “Oh, there’s a story there. Care to tell it?” He propped his chin in his hand.
Harry sighed. “Fine, you’ll ask Draco if I don’t tell you, and he certainly will.” He said, then told the tale of Hagrid, Norbert and the daring task of smuggling him out to Romania.
Blaise looked interested the whole time, and afterward Harry turned a pleading look on him. “Please don’t tell anyone!”
“On one condition.” Blaise said flatly.
“Anything!” Harry offered.
“Drop the sensory glamour and give me your hand.” He held out his hand over the table.
Harry frowned, but did as he asked.
Blaise took the hand, stroked his thumb over the back, then turned it over and kissed the palm. “I’d do anything for you, gorgeous, you know that. All you have to do is ask.” He let go of the hand. “You can put the glamour up again if you want. I just wanted to touch you without it in place.”
Harry smiled and put the glamour back up. “Charmer.”
Blaise smiled. “How else am I to keep you?” He shot back. “How about the private lessons with your submissive? Are those going any better? Getting all hot and steamy behind closed doors?” He purred.
Harry stared at him incredulously. “Do you even know Severus Snape?! Like, at all?! How likely do you think it is that we’d be getting ‘hot and steamy’ in his private Potions lab?! The chance is non-existent, the man is ridiculous about cleanliness! There is no way a stray drop of some bodily fluid is going to end up in one of his potions unless he puts it in there!” Harry finished.
Blaise broke down in laughter. “Right, sorry. I momentarily forgot who we were talking about.” He agreed.
“He’d probably rip your tongue out for the very suggestion.” Harry added.
“And use it in a potion.” Blaise agreed.
“I’m sure he knows of one that needs ‘tongue of a wealthy Pureblood heir.’” Harry added.
Blaise snorted. “Unfortunately, you’re probably right.”
They finished their meals and Blaise looked over the dessert menu. “Want to get dessert?” He asked lightly.
Harry looked over the menu too. “Chocolate, chocolate, cream, cream... I don’t think there is anything here I can have.” He remarked.
Blaise frowned. “Pity.” He remarked. “Let me just pay, and we’ll head back to your place for our own, dairy-free dessert.” He leered. “There will be chocolate, I’m afraid.” He added.
“I can indulge in that kind, don’t worry.” Harry told him with an appreciative look of his own.
Blaise paid and they left to head back to the alley to use the Portkey.
“I can’t wait to have you under me again.” Blaise said softly. “I’m going to make you sing tonight.” He promised.
Harry flushed. “Just don’t try to make the silencing charm fail. Severus is recovering and doesn’t want to be reminded about you and the incubus. And I don’t want to disturb him.”
Blaise grabbed the other end of the Portkey. “Of course, gorgeous. We’ll be very discreet. The last thing I want to do is cause a rift between you and one of your other mates. You need us all to live, after all. We need to attain a certain level of harmony. I won’t rock the boat.” He promised, and Harry brought his dominant to his home for the first time. It would not be the last.
