No One Comes When You Cry
Chapter 54
Sky could not believe what she was hearing.
Severus’ face set like thunder and he was about to curse the auror into another dimension.
Albus stepped forward and spoke before he could. “Auror Prod, considering Mrs Snape’s co-operation, and the fact that the Gringott goblins themselves were satisfied with her explanation, I do not see what proof you have that Mrs Snape has committed any of the crimes you mention. The only thing she did, in fact all three of us did, was to leave the vaults in a manner we have of late become accustomed. Perhaps if you were to try it for yourselves, you will understand her … our preferred method of travel. Besides which, Askaban would not have the necessary means to detain Mrs Snape. Her cell door would merely give her access to a location you would never find. We are well aware of the Ministries desperate attempts to sequester the last of the Morrigan family. She will however stay here. If you wish to take this before the Wizongamet, I am perfectly happy to assist you, seeing as how I am the head of such department.”
Auror Prod blustered in much the same way that Fudge had earlier that morning, but was at a loss as to what to do about the situation.
“Headmaster, I really need to take the young lady in with me. I am under direct orders from … from … “
“And those orders would be from whom, auror Prod? I believe you were sent here to help the Gringott officiates to rectify a situation that is already resolved. I believe Mrs Snape is ready and willing to show you the way out, which considering her condition and your treatment of her is very magnanimous on her part. Good day to you all.” Albus said his voice like his expression one that would not be disputed. “Sky, if you would be so kind as to open the door to the Ministry foyer for these gentlemen. I am certain they have other things to occupy their time this evening.”
Sky opened the door again and Prod’s eyes were wide when he saw the main entrance to the Ministry of magic, complete with fountain, fireplaces and Mr Munch sitting at his desk waiting to check in the wands of all those entering the building.
Prod stormed through the door, quickly followed by the rest of the aurors who mostly looked confused and apologetic as they passed Sky.
Severus slammed the door behind the last one and pulled Sky into his embrace, resting his lips gently on the top of her head. “Are you alright?” He asked softly.
Sly nodded, though she trembled slightly in his arms. “I … it was just a bit of a shock. I am really sorry for getting both of you in trouble like that. I didn’t think when I … “
“Shh.” He told her. “We were as much to blame as you for what happened. Maybe more so. I think perhaps we should have mentioned to the goblin what we were about to do, rather than follow you blindly through the door to come back here.”
“Severus is quite correct my dear. Please do not berate yourself over what cannot be changed. As Severus says, we should have informed the goblin of what we were about to do. Shall we head to the Hall before dinner is finished?”
“I think not Albus. I do not think my wife is up to company this evening. We will see you at breakfast tomorrow.”
The headmaster did not argue and left their rooms.
After a quiet supper, while Effy repaired the damage caused by the aurors, the couple spent the rest of the evening cuddled up on the sofa until it was time for bed.
The following morning, they received a missive asking if it would be convenient for Mrs Morrigan Snape to attend Gringotts and take the life oath in the presence of the board of directors of Gringotts.
Severus sent a reply saying they would attend that afternoon.
It took only a short while for Sky to take the oath and Gringotts were happy to let the matter drop.
Sky however could not resist suggesting that they adapt their method of transport too and from the vaults before Severus dragged her to the nearest door before she caused a ruckus.
“Are you trying to get us into more bother wife?” He asked incredulously when they were safely ensconced back in his study.
“No. I only made a suggestion. Anyway it’s true, those carts are dangerous.”
Severus decided to drop the matter and headed for the bedroom. “You are to head up to the infirmary to see Madam Pomfrey. She wishes to give you the once over before we leave.” He called through the bedroom door.
Sky turned and followed him. “Go where?”
“On holiday of course. We have not yet had a honeymoon, and it is many years since I have bothered to take the time to relax somewhere other than Hogwarts.” He turned from his packing to look at her. “Well go on, chop-chop. I want to be out of here within the hour.”
Sky frowned and opened the door to the infirmary. “Poppy, what’s a honeymoon?” She asked as the medi-witch approached her.
For the next three weeks, Sky and Severus enjoyed themselves on an almost secluded beach in the south of France. No more than a handful of muggles shared the small stretch of sand with them and both relaxed on the warm sand for a large part of each day.
Severus was forced to constantly remind Sky not to use magic in front of anyone, even wandless, otherwise the French Ministry of magic would be complaining about the amount of alleviates they were forced to do. Other than that, they had a wonderful time.
Although shy at first, Sky found she enjoyed talking to knew people and Severus would often find himself forced to share their dinner table with several other guests because Sky invited them to dine with them. He put up with it because it made Sky happy. All he cared about was having her to himself in the evenings. That was the only time he used magic himself, to put up strong silencing wards in the en-suite room they had.
It took both of them a full week before either was willing to appear on the beach in anything less then a sundress for Sky, and shirtsleeves for Severus.
Eventually they relented, heading into the small coastal town and purchasing swimsuits.
Severus was disgruntled when Sky first stripped down on the beach and he saw what she was wearing. Or wasn’t. The woman in the sports shop had persuaded Sky to by a tiny bikini that barely covered her assets. Though she did suggest that Sky buy herself a bottle of hair removing lotion or a razor before wearing it. The bottom half was nothing more than a piece of string with a small triangle of fabric as far as Severus was concerned. The top being barely more than two triangles held together with more string.
Sky did not give Severus a preview of her swimsuits, but she did ask him that night why she would need a razor and hair removing cream.
Severus assumed she had bought a normal one-piece swimsuit and was delighted to use his wand to remove every last hair from her body, especially her pubic hair and was quick to show her how much easier it was for him to pleasure her with his mouth without the encumbrance of hair.
“Severus look around you. All the other women are wearing them.” Sky said when Severus objected openly to her bathing suit the first time he saw it in full view of everyone on the beach. Besides, the lady in the shop said I should show off my stomach.”
“It is not your middle section that concerns me; it is the rest of you that you are displaying to all and sundry. Only I should be allowed to see … well, certain parts of your anatomy.” He grumbled while trying to wrap a large beach towel around her.
“You can talk. I can see everything through those trunks you’ve got on, and it’s obvious you like what I’m wearing.” She retorted.
Severus looked down at the obvious bulge in his trunks and whipped the towel from her to wrap around himself. Unfortunately, that left him with a view that only served to make him harder than he already was.
“You will be the death of me woman.” He grouched, flopping down on the sand with a long face while trying to adjust himself underneath the towel.
Each day Sky sported a different bikini, and each day Severus was forced to take to the water while his erection went down. He managed to persuade Sky to come in up to her waist but she refused to go any deeper, especially when something touched her leg beneath the water.
She fled to the safety of the sand, screeching as the piece of seaweed stuck to her ankle followed her. Severus found it hilarious.
When they returned to Hogwarts, both were browned and happy.
One of the first things Sky wanted to know was whether or not Albus had spoken to Professor Trellawny.
“Ah, no I have not. You see she was away for a while, and when she returned she was a little out of sorts with herself. Then I was rather busy myself and …”
Albus rattled off excuse after excuse until in the end, Sky sent an elf to invite the Professor to share dinner with her, Severus and Albus in their rooms the following evening.
When Severus found out what she’d done, he went spare. “I cannot, will not spend an evening with that overgrown dragonfly of a woman in our rooms. It is out of the question.” he ranted. “You will have to make other arrangements.”
Albus too tried to wriggle out of the arrangement, but Sky was adamant and told them that Madam Pomfrey said no one was supposed to get her upset because it wasn’t good for the babies and that if they didn’t turn up or tried to spoil her plans she would be upset.
Sybill was delighted to get an invite to a private dinner party by Mrs Snape. Even though they’d never actually met, the seer had heard much about her and it was unusual for any of the staff to actively seek her company.
Sky was unsure at first what to make of the scarf infested woman that sailed into their rooms that evening. True she’d seen the woman in Dumbledore’s pensive, but she couldn’t remember her wearing this many scarves, or such a variety of colours all at one time. Every time the woman moved, she rattled and jangled from the array of beads and bangles she wore.
Poppy told Sky to keep the sherry hidden away when she discovered Sky planned to have the woman over for dinner, so Sky asked Effy to find a bottle of sherry especially for that evening.
“Hello Professor. I’m really pleased to meet you at last. I’ve never met a real seer before.”
Severus scowled deeper than he already was. He wanted to remind his wife about Rowena Ravenclaw, but Sky was not really being untruthful. Rowena was a portrait after all, whereas Sybill was a living seer. He almost snorted at the thought; he did not believe for one minute that Sybill had the gift of sight.
He sulked all through dinner, grunting when forced to acknowledge a comment put his way and wishing all the time that Sky would stop kicking his blasted ankle just because he kept fingering his wand.
Albus did his best to be polite, though the slight tic in the side of his face became more noticeable as the evening wore on.
Sybill noticed none of this however. She thought Sky was charming, she showed a genuine interest in divination and Sybill was more than happy to give her as much information on the subject as she could.
When the meal was over and the two wizards moved to the fireside chairs for brandy, Sky whispered to Sybill.
“You know, I have a crystal ball of my own. It’s really old though; would you like to see it?”
“Oh indeed I would. A family heirloom by any chance?”
“No, it was given to me by someone very special. You can meet her too if you like.” Sky whispered conspiratorially.
“Oh, where?” Sybill had supped at least half a bottle of sherry by this time and was more than willing to go anywhere with the charming young woman who latched onto every word that passed her lips.
Severus and Albus tried very hard not to notice when Sky opened the door into the wall.
“Circe. What is this place?” Sybill asked, her large eyes growing even larger.
“This is my secret place Professor. Only Severus and Albus have ever been in here with me, and now you. You will keep it a secret won‘t you.”
“But of course my dear. Where are we exactly?”
“In the wall, this is the secret home of Hogwarts founders. It’s where I lived for the two years I was …well, when I was on my own.”
“Oh you poor child. You spent two years by yourself in this desolate place?”
“Well it wasn’t exactly desolate, I had company.”
“Really, who?”
“She had us Sybill. Hello Sky.” They all said.
Sybill turned pale when she looked round and saw all four founders watching her from the portrait frames on the far wall.
“Professor, meet Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff, and Godric Gryffindor. They were my teachers while I lived here, and they’re my family for all time.”
Sybill fell on the sofa in shock. “Oh my. Oh my.” Was all she could utter.
“Professor are you alright?” Sky asked her worriedly.
After bringing her a glass of water and allowing her to calm down a little, Sky apologised.
“I’m sorry Professor, I didn’t mean to give you such a shock. Would you like to see my crystal ball now? Rowena was a seer and she’d like to talk with you about prophecies and things. I was never very good at it you see, but I told her about you and she said she would love to meet you. It was Rowena’s crystal ball that I wanted to show you.”
Sybill was so stunned that she willingly followed Sky through a door and down the steps to the divination room.
“Sybill, I am so pleased to meet another seer such as myself. It is so long since I had the pleasure.” Rowena said, flattering the tipsy woman.
“The pleasure is mine believe me.” Sybill replied, absolutely awestruck at being in the presence of on of the schools founders. “You are aware I take it that I am a true descendant of Cassandra.”
“But of course. Sky and myself discussed it only recently as a matter of fact. We were most impressed.”
Sybill gushed at the praise being heaped upon her and Sky thought the woman would melt if they said much more.
“Erm Professor, I don’t suppose you’d show me how you make a prophesy would you. It’s just that Rowena has explained the procedure to me so many times, but I don’t have the gift and Rowena obviously can’t show me herself. I have everything you need, the blood, kaht leaves, and the opium root incense.”
Sybill looked at Sky with a puzzled expression. “I’m sorry dear, what are you talking about?”
“The things you need to make a prophecy. I know you probably have all these things anyway, you being a true seer and everything, but Rowena said you wouldn’t want to be bothered traipsing up to your rooms to collect it all and risk clouding your inner eye on the way.” Sky looked at her hopefully. “I have some Stony Cors petals if you prefer to go ever a prophecy you’ve already made, Rowena told me it’s not always possible to make knew ones that quickly so I understand if you prefer to do an older one. Oh, I’m so excited about this, maybe you could do the famous one about that boy, Harry Potter isn’t it? Please Professor, say you’ll do this.”
Sybill was lost for words. For a start, she had no idea what the girl was talking about when it came to blood, roots and kaht leaves. She had no control over her prophesies when they happened, they just happened. She glanced furtively at Sky, then at the portrait of Rowena Ravenclaw and just knew she was going to be proven a fraud. There was no way she would be able to do either of the things these two witches expected her to do.
Sky knew Sybill was about to panic, maybe even ready to refuse and leave. “Professor, I know we’re asking a great deal of you, it’s not easy to just prophesise like that, but I know how to prepare everything, so all you have to do is take the kaht infusion and I’ll do the rest under Rowena’s instruction. I would consider it a great honour to witness this.”
Sybill’s eyes rolled wildly in her head as she thought about what Sky was saying. “You would do everything. I am rather tired you know and have been imbibing, not something I would normally do but, it seemed sociable to do so.”
“Everything Professor, I promise.”
“Very well.” Sybill finally said. “But do not be surprised if nothing happens. I have spent the last few weeks trying to clear my mind of all things spectral so that I would have a cloudless eye for the new influx of students in a few weeks.”
“Oh thank you Professor.” With a wink from Rowena, Sky immediately set to work preparing the infusion of kahl leave, making it into a strong tea for the Professor and knowing she had no idea whet was really going on. Sky and added the crumbled stony cors leaves and three drops of her own blood, stirred it and handed the cup to Professor Trelawney. “Here you are Professor. I hope it’s as good as you normally make for yourself.”
Sybill took the cup and saucer from Sky and peered into it, almost gagging at the odour that assaulted her nostrils from the strange brew. “It err seems close, though not exactly how I would make it myself.” She answered warily. ‘What in Merlin’s name was this stuff? And what was she meant to do with it? Drink it or bathe in the blasted stuff?’
“Oh. That will be the stony cors Professor, I only had dried ones I’m afraid.” Sky’s gaze flicked to Rowena, then down to the floor. Rowena was clearly struggling not to laugh and Sky was afraid if she held the woman’s gaze she would be in stitches herself. “It still tastes better then it smells though, honest.” Sky lied, having never tried the stuff before.
Sybill gave a resigned sigh. She was in the presence of a founder, a renowned seer equal only to Cassandra, and a young woman that had been taught by all four of the founders for two years, and they expected her to reproduce a prophecy she’d made seventeen years ago. Hell, she could not remember herself what it said. ’Oh well, here goes.’ Sybill thought as she drank the not unpleasant tasting brew.
