“Oh, bloody hell,” Sirius moaned, putting his head in his hand and shaking it after seeing Harry transform. While he expected a snake by now, what with all they knew was going on, being confronted with the huge cobra that was his godson's Animagus form was still unsettling to see.
As he listened to Harry laugh after changing back, he lifted his head and smoothed down his goatee then grinned a bit before saying, “Right unnerving, that. And Remus is going to have a bloody heart attack! You managed, though. Good job, Harry!”“I did,” Harry told him with a huge grin. “Severus and Lucius haven't yet, though. They haven't managed to get much beyond visualizing their forms yet.” Then he added, laughing again, “And I want a Marauders name, Sirius! I think I earned it, don't you?”“You did,” Sirius admitted, grinning himself. “Remus and I will come up with something good for you, I promise. Give me some time.” Then he added, looking smug, “Your dad would be proud of you for doing so, too! You managed in about the same time we did with it.”Still looking smug, Harry nodded, “It should help for plenty. While the stag would have been great, I can see where this would work better for many reasons. Far more intimidating.”“It is, I admit it,” Sirius agreed.Harry settled back at the head of the bed with a groan then asked, “Anything going on we need to know about? And we have the research on the diadem. We started working on that this morning to see what we can find on the ruddy thing. So far we don't have a clue.”“Not so far, no,” Sirius told him. “We're waiting, though. All we've heard about is some covert bits with the evil arse trying some underhanded whatever with Gringotts and the Ministry. He hasn't managed to get anywhere, thankfully. From what we've heard and know, he might try for a bigger plan since he isn't having any luck” or something along those lines. Just what that might be—no clue there.”“You coming up with anything that could help with the diadem?” Sirius asked, hoping to figure out what they did have so he and Remus could look somewhere else that might give them more information.“We have a drawing of it and some of the history. So far, all we know is it was stolen at some point,” Harry explained. “While that's all, we do have plenty more to go through yet. Not sure what we'll find. The library here has some bits, but not much. Give us time. Before you say it, we know there probably isn't a lot of time, we know.”“There isn't,” Sirius sighed. Leaning back in his chair with a groan, he said, “Remus and I think, and Minister Bones agrees, he knows most are gone and he might be checking on them. Not sure there as we have no way of getting information.”“If he knows his keys to immortality are gone, he's probably going to end up worse,” Harry tossed out there quietly. “I realize I don't know what Lucius and Severus do about him, but I get a feeling he will from all I do understand. Well, and what they've talked about on the matter.”“I'm sure it's a damned accurate statement,” Sirius agreed with a nod. “Look, we've backed him into as tight of a corner as we have Albus, so something is bound to pop. Unlike Albus, that git will go completely off his nut. When he does, violence comes. It's something I think most are prepared for. Well, if they're smart that is. Plenty remember what he was like from the last war. If they want to keep their heads in the sand over it, not our issue. Minister Bones has made it as clear as she can what's going on and for them to protect themselves. If they don't, it's their problem.”“He's counting on plenty not wanting to admit it I bet,” Harry said with a sigh and shake of his head. “It only helps him in the end. Though the papers have made that clear as well. It seems plenty don't care who they're helping.”“It was the same with the last war. All they want is to ignore it and hope it'll go away,” Sirius groaned, slouching down. “You can't force them to do anything or pull their heads out, so you just go for doing what you can that helps keep them safe, nothing more.”“Anything the old man is pulling we need to worry about?” Harry asked, knowing Dumbledore was always up to something. So, the more they knew about his plotting, the better off they would be.“He's hunting for the diadem as well mostly. At least from what we can tell,” Sirius explained. “He's also being pulled in a number of directions by other bits. While he is still hunting for you, it's taken a backseat to plenty else.” Then he chuckled and added, “From what Minerva told me he's getting nowhere in finding clues to where you might be. Amelia is of the opinion that if your notes say you're safe, she'll go with that and focus where she's needed most. It works for us.”He then pressed on and said, “Albus is focusing on protection of some of his Muggleborn students, like Hermione. He's having plenty of us go put up all the protections we can for them. Of everything he could have us do, it's the one bit we're not complaining about. Hermione is in danger, we all understand she is. Her parents are vulnerable. So, we we're doing what we can. We're also focusing on neighbors of Wizarding households. They would end up collateral damage if the arse goes after those close. It's at least something that's helping.”“What about the Dursleys?” Harry asked quietly. Though he didn't like his family, he didn't want anything to happen to them either. He knew they would be a target because of him, so he hoped there was something in place.“We have as much in place with them as we can get,” Sirius assured Harry. “While I'm sure the arse could find them if he truly wanted to, they are hidden the best we can get and haven't moved back to Privet Drive though the house is being rebuilt. We've made damned sure we put up everything we can for them and have signals up if someone from that side shows around there. It's the best we can do for them.”“Good,” Harry said with a sigh of relief and a nod.Sirius then filled Harry in on all they knew of what was going on. It probably wouldn't help much, but they would know. He also asked about what was happening on their end, especially with people trying to keep an eye on Lucius' properties.
It was official; Voldemort was done playing. And he was furious. While Amelia Bones was a huge thorn in his side it didn't seem like he could do anything about or get rid of, what he just found out was worse. His Horcruxes, the ones he could get to anyway, were gone. He was also sure that the one contained in Bella's vault was as well. Nagini—he assumed she was as well since there was no sign of her since she had been taken. On that front, he still blamed Wormtail, sure the man had something to do with it along with the two who it appeared were helping him. As of now, the only one he knew was safe was the diadem. The locket—he wasn't certain there, but leaned towards it was gone after he found the dummy in its original place. No, not good.
He paced his room, hands locked behind his back, and thought about what to do. Oh, he was going to press on with his original plans of course, but he now had to worry about what he was positive was the last of his Horcruxes. It needed protected. While he didn't think anyone alive knew of the room it was in, he wanted to be damned sure. Albus had this odd way of finding items he shouldn't, something self-proving over the years, so he was understandably concerned about its safety. However, the rub came in about how to get to it. As he well knew, he couldn’t just get in that castle and retrieve it. He also didn't have anyone in the castle that could retrieve it for him. There wasn't anyone he could trust enough not to ask questions. The students—no, there wasn't one he would trust. Hell, he wasn't sure they could manage to retrieve it for him without mucking up the mission. With a sigh, he shook his head and lowered his eyes to the floor. There had to be a way to get to it that wouldn't look like it was the only reason he was there. It was imperative he did get his hands on it, though. Which meant he needed a plan, one that wouldn't look contrived, to get into the castle. As he paced faster, his mind worked over the problem, trying to find a solution when he glanced up at the wall which held a map of places he wanted under his control, fast. Then he stopped.Red eyes taking on a malicious gleam, he began to smile. That smile turned into a feral grin as the plan began to form. Oh yes, this could work wonderfully! While the Ministry and Gringotts were targets he wanted under his control as fast as he could manage, Hogwarts was a prize that could give him the other two. After all, their world would do anything to protect their children, including giving him what he wanted. He could also strike a blow to the other side by taking out Albus. While he wasn't in power in the Ministry, losing the old man could be a huge blow to so many. Yes, it was good to take him out for a myriad of reasons, including the help it could bring him. After stepping over to the map, he lifted one hand then ran a finger along the area around Hogsmeade. It was time to plan the biggest strike he made to date. And he needed to plan it carefully. If he went about it the right way, there wouldn't be much of a fight and Hogwarts would be his. Once he was in charge of the castle, and all the children in it, he could push for plenty else. And he would have his Horcrux. It was time.He took a step back, mind working over the issue, foot tapping, as he decided the day he would make his huge move. If he remembered correctly, the next Hogsmeade visit for the students was two weeks away. The perfect time to strike a blow that would get him a huge prize. With a nod of his head, he strode over to his desk and took a seat. While he didn't have much time to plan out what he needed to do and no longer had the inside information Severus could give him, he knew enough that he could make a strike that would drive their world mad then almost hand it over to him. He needed this, desperately. After summoning a quill and parchment, he went to work on the plan that would give him much of what he wanted and get rid of Albus. He didn't have a lot of time to work, but he was sure it was enough. Yes, Lord Voldemort would rule the school in a couple of weeks. When he did, it was only a matter of time before the Wizarding World was on their knees before him then he could do what he wanted to implement the rest of his plans.
With a groan, Harry leaned back against Severus' legs then stretched out his long legs and crossed his ankles. They were once more ensconced in the parlor as the wind blew the snow around outside. While it wasn't currently snowing, it sure looked like it could again, so they were staying inside.
At the moment, he was going through more bits about a choosing a career. While he now had some leanings of areas he liked, he wasn't sure yet. So, he would just keep going through what they had to see what else was out there before settling down and choosing from what he was interested in.When he felt Severus' fingers began to comb through his hair, he smiled. Lucius had told him he talked to Severus the day before and they were now on the same page. That pleased Harry and meant they could push onwards, at least a little. After leaning his head back so Severus could get to more of his hair, he asked, “Finding anything?” The two were working on what Sirius had sent them about the diadem. They were trying to find clues to its whereabouts so people had at least somewhere to look.“I have it traced to Albania,” Lucius told him with a sigh after taking a sip of his tea. “It's there I've been halted from going any further. And how it will help is beyond me.”Head coming up, Severus listened in with a frown then said, “The Dark Lord was in Albania, as we discussed.”Remembering the conversation with Kaliya about where he picked up Nagini, Lucius stroked the snakes head then asked her about what went on. From what he found out from her the diadem wasn't involved. Then he shook his head and sighed, “If it was, I'm not sure how it relates. I don't think any of us, aside from Albus, know anything of his movements when he was younger, before he became Lord Voldemort. Ask your godfather to see what he can wiggle out of Albus on the matter. As they're hunting the nasty things as well, he might give it up.”“I'll get with him tonight and see what he can find out for us,” Harry assured him with a nod. “Anything else on it that might be of help or is like everything else with us just spinning our wheels?”“There are mentions of Rowena Ravenclaw's daughter taking it and running off, thus it ending up in Albania. It isn't much help as she is long dead, so we can't talk to her,” Lucius admitted with a sigh, shaking his head.“No, I don't see where she's much help unless she didn't move on and became a ghost,” Severus snorted, shaking his head. “Even then, they would have to track her down and get her to talk.”“And how it would relate to the Dark Lord is beyond me,” Lucius sighed and gave a shrug of his shoulders.“In other words, a giant mess,” Harry groaned, shutting his eyes.“Yes,” Lucius nodded. “If he did find the blasted object in Albania, I doubt he would have left it there. Everyone seems to lean towards he did find it. My guess is if he did, he brought it back with him and stored it somewhere safe.”“And somewhere that had meaning,” Severus added. “Some we do know the meaning behind, such as the shack where they found the one. It was relatives. Bella's vault. Gringotts has meaning to all of us in one way or another. Not sure about the cave when it came to the original place for the locket, but I'm sure it did as well. Which means he probably put it somewhere that had meaning. Without having the full history of the Dark Lord, something most of us that followed him didn't have, I wouldn't hazard to guess where it might be.”“Let me see what Sirius can find out about his history,” Harry muttered, thinking it over. “It might give us some hints at least. Two, though, are from founders of Hogwarts. If the diadem is as well, it's a third from them. Which means it connects to Hogwarts. Maybe it's there?”Severus then pondered what Harry said and gave a slow nod then looked at Lucius, who was nodding as well. “It could be. The rub comes in where it might be stashed. As we all know, there are plenty of places in that blasted castle to hide something. And I doubt it would be easy to find if he did.”“Yes, say something to Black. He might be able to wiggle something from that old man. He can also pass it along to Madam Bones to see what she can find. We'll send along what we have so far so it looks like they've put together some of it on their own. Maybe she has a way to find a trail of the object we don't.” Lucius suggested. “Anything will help at this juncture as what we have here isn't going to lead us to the trail. It's too historical to be much help.”“I'll do it before I go to bed tonight,” Harry assured the two, mind already working on what was going on.Severus gave Harry's head an affectionate rub then told him, smiling just a tad, “See what he says. If he has anywhere else for us to look that isn't historical, we'll gladly take it on.”“I'll mention that as well,” Harry told him with a smile himself, adoring how Severus’ hand on his head felt. With a nod, watching the two, Lucius gave a small smile. He changed topics as he put aside the book he was finished with. He then asked, “Have you found anything else in the way of a career you're interested in, Harry?”“Maybe,” Harry told him. “I like the idea of curse breaking. Not something out of the country, but more along the lines of dangerous objects. The careers listed in the one book said there is a department in the Ministry that needs them for various areas.”“It's a good career path,” Severus agreed with a nod. “Add it to your list. When you're done with all you have, we'll go over all of them more in depth and see what you want to do by hashing them out, both the pros and cons.”“I will,” Harry assured him with a smile. He was sure in a few days he would find something he wanted to do.
“What did Black have to say?” Severus asked Harry after stepping into his room and walking over to where Harry was standing by the balcony doors. Putting a hand on Harry's shoulder, he gave it a slight squeeze and waited.
“I gave him everything we came up with and passed along what we had found so far. He said he and Remus would see what they could wiggle out of the old man with what they found. Then he said he'd take it to Madam Bones and see what she might be able to find on the topic. He also said that if it is at Hogwarts, he has no clue where it could be.”“I thought as much,” Severus nodded, pressing closer to Harry and slipping an arm around him, pulling him close. “Let's see what they find and we'll go from there with research.”Harry leaned into Severus and smiled, adoring the feeling. As this was more overt than anything they had done, other than the kiss, he was happy with it.After giving Harry a kiss on the side of the head, Severus sighed contentedly. “It's something that they'll work out eventually. Either that or we'll manage. One of the two. It'll just take some effort, nothing more.”“True,” Harry nodded. “I think it's just—well, everyone wants this to end before it grows any worse.”“A line of thought I understand completely,” Severus told him softly.Pressing back against Severus, Harry's head went back and his eyes shut as he smiled. Then he said, quietly, “This is nice and I adore it.”“As do I,” Severus admitted honestly, giving him a squeeze. As his only real interest in this area had been Lily all those years ago and he hadn't tried with anyone since, Severus wasn't sure how to proceed in a way that wasn't him fumbling like an unskilled teenager. He also wasn't the type to articulate what he was feeling to anyone, beyond the basics. So, he decided to just go with what was happening and figured Harry would understand. As he looked at Harry, Severus smiled a little. Kissing him on the side of the head, he just held him there. In its own way, it was more satisfying than anything he had done with anyone in the past and had more meaning to him. While he held Harry, he stared out over the darkened yard and didn't make a move to pull away. This was fine with him. It wasn't all he wanted, but it was a start. That's all he was going for tonight. He would then press on from here. Well, him and Lucius both. In the end, they would all get what they wanted out of it and, hopefully, find happiness.
