No One Comes When You Cry
Chapter 55
After taking a couple of sips, Sybill lifted her large eyes to Rowena’s portrait. I have to admit Madam Ravenclaw, Mrs Snape the infusion is more than pleasant. What did you say you … “ Sybill’s voice trailed off into a whisper as her eyes glazed and she relaxed into the chair.
Sky moved to crouch in front of her and waved a hand in front of her.
“There’s no reaction Rowena. Shall we start?”
Rowena nodded and Sky held the tip of her wand against Sybill’s temple.
“Relevare Trelawney’s praevius propheteia Tom Riddle” (reveal Trelawney’s previous prophecy of Tome Riddle)
Sybill’s eyes cleared and she looked at Sky, a slightly puzzled expression overcame her and she started to speak.
“The one with the power to Vanquish
the Dark Lord has been approached
Born to one who has tried to defy him.
But as the seventh month dies, the
Dark Lord will meet his equal and she will survive him with
powers the Dark Lord knows not
and he must die at the hand
of the other, for neither can live whole while the
other survives.
The one with the power to vanquish the
Dark Lord will be known as the seventh month dies.”
Sky was writing everything down, word for word as Sybill spoke. She would need to compare it to the original prophecy to be sure, but Sky was certain there were some differences.
“Professor? Professor Trelawney are you alright?”
“What? Oh yes dear, I’m fine thank you. I don’t suppose …?”
“Yes it worked Professor. You are a wonderful seer and I really am grateful to you for showing me just how it should be done. If I can ever return the favour, please let me know.” Sky said earnestly.
Sybill Trelawney was not just flattered, she was amazed. “You mean it worked? I gave a new prophecy?”
“Oh no Professor. I’m afraid I wasn’t too sure how to balance the ingredients for the prophesising potion. Then Rowena told me we should be using your blood and not mine so, you repeated the prophecy about Voldemort instead.”
“Oh my dear girl, you must not speak his name so freely.” The Professor said fearfully. “Still, at least you know now what a rare gift it is I carry. Madam Ravenclaw, it was a great pleasure to meet you. I hope that Mrs Snape will allow me to speak with you again in the future. It is not often I have the opportunity to meet a kindred spirit such as yourself.”
“That would be wonderful Sybill, and please call me Rowena. As you say, we have much in common.”
Sybill Trelawney felt as though she was floating on a cloud as Sky led her back into the Potion Masters study.
“Severus, Albus, I have had the most wonderful time. Thank you Severus for persuading your lovely young wife to seek the knowledge of a true seer. I was of course able to reveal to her the correct way to bring forth a past prophecy. Is that not so my dear.” She said to Sky.
“Yes. Yes it is Professor. I would never have been brave enough to ask you if it wasn’t for Severus telling me how gifted you are in the art of divination and how much he admires you.”
Severus’ eyes were about to pop out of their sockets as his teeth gnashed painfully together. The pleasant buzz he’d been feeling from the brandy he and Albus had drunk left him as he felt a weight settle in the pit of his stomach when Sybill batted her eyelashes at him.
Albus chuckled quietly to himself at the expression on the Potion Masters face and the sheer horror in his eyes.
The fact that Sky was stood behind her grinning like a kneazle that got the cream was not helping his efforts at holding in the need to laugh out loud.
Only when Sybill approached Severus with her hand out, obviously expecting him to do the gentlemanly thing and accept it and place a kiss upon it, did Severus drop his brandy goblet, accidentally on purpose, so as to cause a much needed distraction.
Albus took this as his cue to suggest he and Sybill make their ways to their own rooms as the hour was late and he believed Mrs Snape must surely be tired, considering her condition.
“Of course my dear.“ She said to Sky. “You know I predicted that you and our Potions Master would have three healthy sons before you give birth to a daughter. It was quite clear in the tea leaves you know.”
“Really?” Sky said. “Maybe I could come to you for a reading sometime, if you don’t mind that is.”
“Anytime my dear. Anytime.” Sybill’s voice floated back to the room as Albus escorted her through the door.
Severus jumped from his seat and all but ran to close it behind them before letting out a long breath. Then he turned to narrow his eyes at Sky, angry at having to waste a whole evening entertaining the damned praying mantis in her floaty scarves. Gods, and the woman actually had the nerve to bat her eyelashes at me. Severus had almost thrown up when she did that. No he wanted retribution from Sky. The trouble was, Sky was no longer there.
“Sky.” He roared, marching in the direction of the bedroom, only to find it empty. He checked his office, the labs and the classroom before finally opening the door into the wall. “Sky.” He called again, only slightly calmer now.
“I’m down here with Rowena.” He heard through the door that led to whatever subject she was concentrating on at the time.
“I cannot believe what you forced me to go through up there. How could you?” He raged, as he made his way down the steps, only to pause and look over her shoulder curiously.
“What are they?”
“Sybill’s prophecies. This is the original.”
The one with the power to Vanquish
the Dark Lord approached.
Born to those who have thrice defied him,
Born as the seventh month dies, and the
Dark Lord will mark him as his equal,
But he will have power the Dark Lord
knows not and either must die at the hand
of the other, for neither can live while the
other survives.
The one with the power to vanquish the
Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies.
“And this is the one she gave tonight under the influence of the kahs and stony cors brew.
“The one with the power to Vanquish
the Dark Lord has been approached
Born to one who has tried to defy him.
But as the seventh month dies, the
Dark Lord will meet his equal and she will survive him with
powers the Dark Lord knows not
and he must die at the hand
of the other, for neither can live whole while the
other survives.
The one with the power to vanquish the
Dark Lord will be known as the seventh month dies.”
“See where they differ from one another. What do you think?”
Severus re-read the prophecies several times each. “So Potter was not even in the running.” His face took on a pained, lost look as he remembered he was the one that went running to the Dark Lord with part of the original prophecy in the first place. It was because of him that Voldemort murdered Lily and James Potter, leaving the boy an orphan after trying to kill him too.
“Severus, are you alright?” Sky asked him, concerned at the sudden despair in his eyes.
Blinking, he lowered his gaze back to the parchments, unable to face his wife with the guilt of what he had done.
“I am fine, I was merely considering the implications of what this new prophecy means.” And he was. It was suddenly brought home to him just what it was she had to do. Where as to Sky it merely confirmed what she was already told she must do, for Severus it meant that the future of the wizarding world now rested firmly on her shoulders and he did not think his misery could sink to a lower level than it was at that moment.
He studied the second parchment again and again.
“I assume your mother defied him by refusing to give in to him willingly the night you were conceived. It would be prudent to discover what month it was when your mother and grandparents were attacked and you were abducted. I dare say the elf could answer that question. Looking at this, it was most likely in the month of July. It also seems likely that his demise will occur sometime at the end of July, though which year I have no idea.”
Severus was really thinking out loud, pacing the floor slowly and absently rubbing his chin with his fingertips, rather than offering an explanation to Sky or Rowena, who up until now had remained silent.
Rowena quietly left her frame, leaving the couple alone to come to terms with their own thoughts.
At first Sky was just pleased with herself for getting Sybill to come down here and re-prophesise, now she was listening to Severus’ mutterings and knew he was becoming more and more agitated about it. She did not know about his past mistake with the original prophecy and thought his attitude a bit odd. After all, he knew why she was brought here in the first place. He was the once who brought her.
It was well into the early hours before Severus came to bed, thinking over the memories of his past while Sky slept.
A couple of days later, with the headmaster present, she stood beside Severus and aimed her wand at the reflection of her stone in the mirror as she thought of Voldemort. He’d been quiet for quite a while now and the Order were worried the despot was busy forming some great plan of destruction.
Instead they found he was lying in bed, looking more repulsive than usual as his face contorted with pain.
“She. Must. Die.” He let out in a higher than usual voice to the squirming Wormtail who hunkered at the side of the bed.
“Yes my Lord. She must. Who my Lord?”
The Dark Lord groaned at his servants obvious stupidity. “Fool!” He bellowed, then immediately winced at the pain his outburst caused. “The one that did this to me. Who do you think. As soon as I am able, my Death Eaters will storm the halls of Hogwarts. They will find the girl and bring me her head. Only her head.” Then he smirked grotesquely. “Along with that stone she has fastened round her throat and that blasted wand of hers. Now give me my medicine you imbecile.”
Sky lowered her wand and looked at Severus and Albus, who in turn looked at her enquiringly.
“What exactly did he mean when he said “the one who did this?”. Severus asked her.
“I don’t know. Honestly I don’t.” She reiterated at the suspicious look he gave her. “But whatever he thinks I did, he plans to come here and get me for it. But I haven’t done anything apart from what you know about, and we already know his hands are alright. So why is he in bed. He looked to be in a lot of pain. All I did was burn his hands when he tried to hurt one of us.” She said puzzled.
“Well clearly something has happened that he seems to hold you personally responsible for.”
Sky was irked that he didn’t believe her. “Look for yourself if you think I am lying to you. I don’t know what’s happened to him any more than you do.” Sky was telling the truth, since Shannon had removed the memories of what she did to obtain the necessary ingredients to totally eradicate the mark from Severus’ arm. “Go on, I know you don’t believe me Severus.” She stated angrily.
“Sky, we do believe you. Severus is just sceptical of Voldemorts motives, nothing more.” Albus said, trying to smooth the way a little. He too was curious as to what it could be the despot deemed her responsible for.
Severus’ eyes were intense as he looked at his wife, but the genuine confusion he saw in her was enough to convince him she was telling the truth. “The man is clearly delusional. What matters more is his plan to have Hogwarts stormed some time soon. At least I assume it will be sometime soon. If we knew what ailed him exactly, we might have some idea as to how long we have before he recovers enough to put forth his plan. Albus, we need to call the Order and have them meet this weekend.”
“I quite agree with you Severus.” the older wizard said. “Sky, I do not suppose you would care to put your talents to work and see if you can come up with a way that will give us a constant view of Voldemort? I will provide you with a mirror that, once charmed, can be kept in a safe location, available only to us and the Order. It would be of great help to us.”
Sky was elated to have a project to work on and agreed immediately. “I’ll speak to the founders. I’m sure with their help we’ll be able to come up with something.” She said excitedly.
“Not before you have seen Poppy you will not. She is expecting you this afternoon.” Severus told her.
Sky laid back on the infirmary bed, an awed expression on her face at the misty shapes that hovered above her swollen abdomen.
Poppy had invoked a spell that acted in a similar fashion to a muggle ultrasound machine and showed the babies nestled contentedly in their mothers womb.
“Oh Sky, they are beautiful.” The medi-witch exclaimed. Although she’d seen quite a few of these images in her time, this was her first time dealing with triplets. The sight of the three little foetuses all curled up together was a humbling experience for her.
“What is that one doing?” Sky asked, prodding her finger into the misty image.
Poppy looked closer and smiled. “Why he’s sucking his thumb. Oh and look, they all have Severus’ nose.”
For the first time since Severus told her she had a child in her womb, Sky realised the enormity of just what was going on inside her body. She stared at the three little lives, her hands moving instinctively to her belly as she did, her eyes stinging as tears threatened to spring to the surface. For the first time it was real to Sky. They were real and she held her stomach protectively as one of the babies seemed to turn it’s head and look towards her. Another one kicked and she felt the small movement beneath her palm. It was followed by a small fist and another kick as each of the babies batted her from the inside. Sky’s eyes widened even more at the sensation and looked worriedly at the medi-witch.
Poppy laughed softly. “Don’t worry, it’s perfectly normal to feel the babies moving. I take it this is the first time you have felt them.”
“I think so. I mean I’ve felt something before, but I thought it was … well you know … wind.” She ended in a whisper. “But I can feel this with my hand. It’s so strange and nice at the same time. I didn’t realise how real they were until now.” Sky said, her voice cracking with the emotion she felt.
Severus sat staring into his fireplace, brooding about how and when Sky would be forced to take out the Dark Lord. He started when Poppy’s face appeared in the flames of his fireplace an hour later. “Poppy? What is it? Is something wrong with my wife or the babies?” He asked worriedly, instantly on alert.
“No Severus, nothing is wrong, I think you might want to come through though. Sky is a little emotional at the moment and there is something we both think you should see.”
Severus placed his cup on the table and grabbed a handful of floo powder as soon as the medi-witch disappeared.
“Why is she emotional and what is it I need to … “ Severus’ words stuck in his throat as Poppy drew back the privacy curtain and he saw the three tiny curled up images of his sons. He waked towards the bed as though in a daze, unable to tare away his gaze as he sat down on the hard chair. He reach out tentative fingers to the swirl of colours that formed the shapes of his children, as if trying to touch the minute limbs that flayed soundlessly in front of him.
“Severus.” Sky said. “Here, put your hand here.” She told him.
Severus turned to her, his jaw slack as she took his hand and pressed it gently to her stomach. His eyes widened in shock as he looked once more at the image and felt the movement under his hand as one of his sons kicked furiously.
Poppy smiled and went to join Albus in her office, leaving the two to marvel at the sight of the miracles that were their sons.
Sky watched Severus warily for a few moments, wondering if he would faint like he did when he found out they were expecting triplets, but she relaxed when she discovered he was just engrossed at the sight before him and the feel of their movements under his hand.
“Poppy said they all have your nose.” She said, watching his reaction from under her lashes.
Severus narrowed his eyes and turned sharply towards her. Then he looked back at the babies and leaned closer. “Poor little blighters.” He said with a soft chuckle.
“Well I like your nose.” She told him, reaching over and running a finger down said protuberance.
“You have not had to live with it for almost four decades. Believe me when I tell you it is not one of the endowments I wished to pass on to my children.”
Sky smirked. “Seems Steven Barks was right, you really are old. Forty. Wow.”
Severus spluttered and looked at her outraged. He could have kicked himself, he’d been so engrossed in the babies he’d not thought about what he was saying “I am not old. Nor am I forty for another year. I will also have you know that wizards do not even reach middle age until they are at least seventy five, sometimes older. I am barely coming into my prime if you must know.”
A familiar chuckle behind him alerted Severus to the fact that Albus was there and had heard his indignant guff. To make things worse, Poppy was stood behind the Headmaster chortling while Sky tried her best to keep a straight face.
“Well I didn’t know did I.” She said. You always got a choking fit whenever I asked how old you are.”
“Yes, well while muggles only live to around seventy or eighty, we wizards live quite active lives late into our late second century.” He flicked his gaze slyly in Albus’ direction. “Just ask our Headmaster, he is living proof.”
Albus turned red and coughed. “Yes, well. I must say it is marvellous to be able to see all three little ones doing so well. Don’t you agree Poppy?” The old wizard asked, changing the subject abruptly.

Don’t forget, any suggestions as to where this story might go would be greatly appreciated. Having a bit of a slump at the moment. Still thrown by DH. What can I say.
