Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
These characters are not mine. They belong to J.K. Rowling...but they do come out to play with me and in the process they become a bit OOC because face it...most Fan Fiction has our beloved characters VERY OOC and it makes for some great storytelling. Let's deal with it and move on, and enjoy the story!
Chapter 55: Reclaiming What is Mine
Hermione remembered where she had apparated before when she had gone looking for Tom. She came to Malfoy Manor holding Thomas in a front baby pouch that she had transfigured from a scarf. It was comforting holding her baby close to her as he slept soundly. Thomas wasn't stirring after the trip. Her shrunken suitcase was in her pocket. Hermione took a deep breath, praying that what she was doing would be a new beginning. She hoped that this would be her chance to finally make things right between her and Tom. She wasn't sure how this plan would all work out. In fact, she wasn't sure it was even going to work out at all. But, she knew that she at least had to try. If she didn't even try, there would have been no reason to hurt Sirius like she did. Hermione knew that she wouldn't truly be happy without Tom in her life. She knew what she should do.
Standing there lost in her thoughts, she didn't notice the two Death Eaters that approached her from differing directions.
"Hermione," the slow drawl came from the immaculately dressed Lucius Malfoy to her left, and the dark, brooding stare from her old Potions Professor at her right. "How can we help you this fine morning?"
"I'm looking for Tom," answered Hermione.
Pointing to the baby he asked, "And who is that?"
"Don't be obtuse, this is the Dark Lord's son." She answered, tiring of Malfoy's games that he thrived on playing.
"Take me to him now. I'm sure the Dark Lord wouldn't be pleased to know that I was kept waiting outside of the manor." Those words seemed to spur on Voldemort's minions.
"I would love to," said Lucius in his ever polite, but snobbish way, "but I can't."
"What do you mean that you can't?" Hermione asked in a snappish tone. Conversing with Lucius Malfoy was not in her plans for the day and the longer she was delayed here with him, the shorter her temper became.
"He is out of the country for the moment." Lucius said. His eyes looked away trying to conceal something he didn't want to reveal. Though he did wear the classic Malfoy smirk boldly on his face.
Hermione looked over to Snape, and noticed him trying to get a better look at the baby. This made her giggle inside, knowing that later in life he would act like he hated all children, especially Harry Potter. Hermione supporting Thomas held him out to show his face to the men. A slight smile crept over Snape's face as he peered at Thomas like some rare potions ingredient. "He has a lot of curly hair," the tall man observed, "Also a lot more than is atop of Draco's head."
That statement brought a sneer to Lucius's face as if anyone could ever be better than his son. Snape almost laughed at Lucius's reaction. Hermione noticed the quiet interplay between the two men who one day would not be as close.
"So, when do you expect him back?" she asked. Snape and Malfoy glanced at each other and then in opposite directions. "What's going on? What are you not telling me?" Both men were acting so suspicious she knew Tom was up to something that they didn't want her to know about.
'We are not exactly sure when he will be returning, do we Snape?" Lucius was busy picking something off his sleeve that wasn't really there. "But we would be happy to escort you into the manor where you can wait until his return." Lucius started walking away with Snape following him, the whole interchange having been very odd. Hermione set off after the men who both had much longer legs than hers.
Inside the manor Hermione was brought into one of the smaller sitting rooms. There sat Narcissa Malfoy holding a sleeping Draco Malfoy. "This is my wife, Narcissa Black Malfoy and my heir, Draco Malfoy." She nodded her head to Hermione. "This is The Dark Lord's fiancé, Hermione, and his son, Thomas." There was a hint of surprise in Narcissa's eyes and she tried to hide her curiosity.
The lull in conversation in the room was interrupted by a loud voice behind Hermione, "Why it's the beautiful Hermione and the baby!" She whirled around to see a painting of Abraxas Malfoy grinning at her.
"Oh Abraxas it's you. I've missed you so much." Hermione could not hide her enthusiasm for one of her good friends that had helped her and Tom through many hard times. Holding up Thomas to the portrait she said, "You were right Abraxas. You said the baby's hair would be more like mine than Tom's color." Thomas opened up his eyes to stare at the taking portrait.
"He's a right handsome little fellow isn't he? Abraxas admired the baby up close. "He has a lot more hair than your son Lucius." Abraxas said almost jovially. Lucius's pinched face matched that of his wife's rather pale one. No one responded to Abraxas.
It felt strange being back at Malfoy Manor under different circumstances of course. It had also become very awkward to all be standing around chatting with the portrait of Abraxas Malfoy. She wished that the man were still alive. It would have brought her great pleasure to truly chat with the real man.
"Please sit down Hermione and I will have our house elf bring us some tea," said Narcissa, ever the perfect hostess. Hermione chose a chair next to Narcissa while Lucius and Snape sat down on the settee. Dobby popped in with the tea service, served everyone and popped out just as quickly. She could see how nervous Dobby was around the Malfoys. The sounds of sipping and babies babbling were the only things heard for a while. Hermione hoped that wherever Tom was, that he would be back soon and take her away from this very uncomfortable situation.
Waking from a fog, Tom tried to remember where he was. He rolled over feeling uncomfortable from all of the nightlong sport he had participated in. He wondered how long he had been sleeping. He heard Nagini moving about the room. As he sat up he felt something strange within himself. Then he looked down at his Eternal Flame tattoo on his hand. It was bright and felt very warm. He could sense that Hermione wasn't in danger, but he tried to remember what it meant. He jumped from the bed looking around for a change of clothes. Then he realized he still smelled of his activity with Flamina. After a quick shower that woke him up and soothed his aching muscles, he dressed for the day. His tattoo was still warm and had somewhat of a glow about it. Then he had the feeling that Hermione was near, closer than she had been in many weeks. He left his rooms seeking out his lieutenants. If Hermione were close, he would not let her slip out of his hands ever again.
Hermione wondered if this little tea party would ever end. There had been many uncomfortable times in her life, and today would be ranked up there in the top three. There was only so much that could be said about Thomas and Draco and taking care of babies. It's not like they had many things in common, despite the babies and Tom. Drinking three cups of tea had only resulted in using the loo and being offered more tea and biscuits. Looking around the room Lucius looked close to snoozing while Snape was reading a potions tome. Both babies were playing on a blanket on the floor. Hermione's face was getting tired of smiling at every small thing Narcissa kept chattering on about. She felt like she was ready to jump out of her skin. At the moment when the only noise to be heard was the babies babbling to each other, the sitting room door swung open with a bang. There stood The Dark Lord with a look of utter surprise on his face.
"Everyone out! Except you Hermione." The Dark Lord's orders were adhered to quickly with Narcissa scooping up baby Draco, Snape following next hugging his book, and Lucius not making eye contact with his Master as he hurried out of the room and closing the door.
Hermione stood up slowly and picked up baby Thomas. She didn't utter a word as she tried to gauge how Tom was reacting to her being here, with the baby. She prayed to every God out there that she had made the right choice coming to him and bringing the baby. They stood there looking at one another with her heart beating faster than a hummingbird. Tom's eyes flitted from hers down to the baby and back up again.
"Is this he? Is this my son?" he asked with such an incredulous tone. Hermione could only nod in the affirmative. Tom reached out to hold one of his fingers. Thomas jabbered and smiled at his father. "He's smiling at me."
Hermione's heart swelled with joy. She could have never anticipated The Dark Lord reacting to Thomas the way he was. Seeing the very fierce wizard interacting with an infant like this made her want to burst.
"Would you like to hold him my Lord?" Hermione searched his face hoping for the best.
"No." he said strongly making her heart sink. She wondered how things could have shifted so fast. "I need to do something else first." He reached out smoothing his hand down the back of her hair and drew her close pressing his lips against hers. She melted into the kiss as they were hurtled back to the years when this came so naturally to both of them. The feelings of love and devotion came swirling through her heart and mind. His tongue probing and exploring opened her up to tingles that shot every which way and headed south. Gods how she had missed this feeling of loving this man! It would have gone on even longer if hadn't been for the baby squealing from being squished tightly or being ignored. He released her and smiled, kissing her quickly one more time. He lifted Thomas away from Hermione and lifted him high in the air.
"Are you feeling neglected chap?" Tom smiled as he spoke to his son. "We all have much catching up to do." He held the baby up to look at his face. "It's like we always said, that he would be a superb combination of the two of us. He has your curly hair, doesn't he love?" He smiled down again at Thomas and the baby complied by smiling right back. "He doesn't do much more than this does he?" he enquired of Hermione with a quirk of his eyebrow.
She laughed, "Well except for eating and pooping, no." Tom winked back at her. Years had been erased from his face from the moment he had walked into the room seeing Hermione and the baby.
"Glawneth, come," Tom called and a female house elf appeared at his side.
"Master called?" the house elf bowed submissively waiting for orders.
"Take the young master Thomas to the nursery that has been finished for him," he handed the baby to the elf. "You will stay and attend to him until I call for you and him. "
"Yes, Master. I's will do as you say." And the house elf winked out of sight with the baby. Hermione tried to squelch any fear of having her son being whisked away so quickly, but she had to start trusting Tom again and this was a good start.
"You my lady are coming with me." Tom put his arms around her and apparated them to a bedroom. Looking around, Hermione could see Nagini in the corner and a pit of fear built in his stomach. She had always hated the large snake at this size. "Out Nagini." The familiar, ever obedient, slithered out of the room. Tom warded the room and lit many candles wandless. She tried to squelch her fears and took a deep breath.
"This is a great day for me. This is the day that I reclaim what is mine." Tom once again pulled Hermione tight against him. She could feel what way he wanted to reclaim her. All thoughts fled her mind as his hands began to explore her soft curves. His lips kissed a trail down the side of her neck. He slowly sucked along her collarbone. Hermione moaned as he cupped her breast, giving it a light squeeze.
"I've wanted this for so long," Tom whispered in her ear.
"It's as if every one of my dreams is finally coming true. I never thought I'd be back in your arms again." Hermione closed her eyes feeling as is she were melting in Tom's arms.
"You are mine! You will always be mine!" His strong grip on her torso only made his words stronger showing his emotion. His intense look backed up his words. Hermione knew, good or bad, this was the man whom she would live with and die for.
"Now it's time to show you I mean what I say," he said as he ripped her shirt off and the cold dungeon air dimpling her skin.
