Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: Y’all are
probably about ready to stone me, but I have an excuse for taking so long I
swear! My stupid landlord was dog
sitting for her stupid boss and the stupid thing never shut up! But to make up for it this chapter is longer
than normal so… please don’t hurt me….
As for the Draco/Harry action, I know Werewolf Mistress
commented on this, as did my beta. It
didn’t turn out exactly how I’d originally planned it, but it’s how I saw them
acting. I want to keep this at least
mostly realistic, and Draco can’t magically go from evil to sweet and
romantic. The poor guy tries though… There’s
a little more on that in this and future chapters, as well as some other
goodies.
Thanks for all the reviews, and don’t hesitate to leave
more.

On the morning of April twenty-first Lucius had Julian
propped up in a sitting position on the bed and he was on his knees
entertaining the three-month old with puppets he’d made out of socks. James was sitting at his desk grading papers,
and occasionally looking up at Lucius and laughing silently.
There was a knock at the door and Sirius entered the
room. “Hi,” he greeted James.
James got up and greeted his best friend with a hug. Then he motioned to Lucius. “Welcome to the great Lucius Malfoy’s sock
puppet theatre!” he chuckled.
Lucius stopped long enough to turn around and give his
fiancé a dirty look. Sirius chuckled and
shook his head. He went over to the bed
and gave Julian a big gray teddy bear.
“I just wanted to bring this bear down for Julian, and to let you two
know that since the baby isn’t showing any signs of moving into position,
Severus is going to be induced today.”
James smiled. “Then I
guess early congratulations are in order!
Are you nervous?”
“Terrified,” Sirius admitted. “It’s just now starting to sink in that I’m
going to be a father. Until now the baby
has just been this lump. Now it’s coming
out!”
James grabbed Sirius’ hands and gently squeezed. “You’ll be fine. It’s completely normal to freak out like this
for the first one. Severus is probably
having a massive panic attack.”
Sirius nodded. “Yeah,
he’s been snapping at every tiny thing all morning. I want to comfort him, but I’m afraid he’ll
hex me.”
“That’s Severus for you,” James shrugged. “He’ll need you when labor starts, but he’ll
never admit it. The whole process will
probably take a while, so we’ll all be there sometime after dinner.”
Sirius nodded and pulled James into another hug before
leaving and going back down to the dungeons.
Severus was pacing back and forth in his bedroom. James was right; he was having a panic
attack. He was extremely thankful that
Sirius was being supportive and was going to be by his side.
Sirius and Lysandra arrived at the same time. “Ready to make history Severus?” Lysandra
asked, setting her bag on his desk.
“No,” Severus answered truthfully. “I’ve changed my mind, I don’t want to have a
baby anymore.”
“It’s a little late for that,” Lysandra said as she directed
Severus to undress and climb into bed.
She examined him one more time. “The
baby is fine, but there’s still no sign that it’s moving into position. So what’s going to happen is I’m going to
give you a little injection of some hormones and a potion. It shouldn’t take long for labor to start.”
Severus reached out to grab Sirius’ hand. Sirius sat down on the bed beside him,
determined to support his partner.
Lysandra gave Severus the injection and then they
waited. They sat in silence, no one
knowing what to say. About twenty
minutes passed before the potion started to work. Severus’ eyes widened when he felt a
tightening in his lower abdomen. It
didn’t really hurt, it just felt strange.
He was more bothered by the butterflies in his stomach. What had he been thinking? He wasn’t prepared for this, but the baby was
coming whether he was ready or not.
Harry sat with Draco up in their dorm room after
Potions. They were alone since the other
boys were taking the Apparation test.
Harry had mixed feelings about being alone with Draco again. He still didn’t know how he felt about what
had happened before. He hadn’t really
wanted to do it, but he couldn’t say no to Draco.
Draco seemed to be modeling his behavior on what other couples
were doing, and taking cues from his own father. The problem was, Harry wasn’t his
father. He wasn’t Ginny or Ron
either. Harry had been excited about
their relationship at first, but it didn’t seem to be working.
As soon as Harry finished putting his things away in the
boys’ dorm he was pinned to his bed by his blond companion. Draco started kissing him passionately and
groping his lean form. Harry sighed
inwardly, but returned the kisses. He liked
kissing, he just wished Draco wasn’t always so demanding about it.
Then Draco started to pull Harry’s shirt off, and Harry
shoved him away. “What are you doing?”
he asked.
“We’re alone again, and we don’t have a baby to watch,”
Draco replied with a confused expression.
“So?” Harry responded, but before he could say anything more
Draco resumed trying to rip Harry’s clothes off. “Stop!” Harry cried. He couldn’t believe Draco was doing
this.
Draco didn’t stop however.
He crawled on top of Harry and grabbed his writs with one hand,
effectively pinning him down once more, and his other hand was undoing Harry’s
belt. Harry managed to get a hand free
and smacked Draco hard.
Draco jumped back looking hurt and confused. “Wh- what are you doing?” he stuttered.
“I could ask you the same thing,” Harry spat angrily. “I told you to stop!”
“But you’re my boyfriend,” Draco said as if that one
sentence should explain everything.
“What’s that got to do with anything?” Harry asked as he got
off the bed and straightened his clothes.
“You’re supposed to sleep with me. I waited until you were ready to start, and
you did it when we were watching Julian so….”
“So I’m supposed to just lie down and let you fuck me any
time you feel like it regardless of what I want?” Harry shouted.
Draco was quiet for a moment. “Isn’t that what a boyfriend does?”
Harry was so angry he could hardly stand. “Well, if that’s how you feel, then maybe I
shouldn’t be your boyfriend.”
Before either boy could say anything more there was a knock
on the door and James poked his head in.
The older man paused for a moment, sensing that he’d interrupted
something. “I just wanted to let you
boys know Severus is being induced today.
Sirius wants all of you to come down after dinner. Is everything all right?”
“Everything is fine,” Harry lied. “Dad, could I come to your room to work on my
homework?”
“Of course,” James answered and gave Draco a suspicious
look. He didn’t know what he’d walked in
on, but he could tell it was something big.
Draco stood dumbstruck as he watched the Potter men
leave. He couldn’t understand why Harry
was so upset with him. After several
minutes he crawled into his bed; a small tear sliding down his cheek.
Ron and Hermione came back for lunch. Hermione had passed the Apparation test with
flying colors. Ron had failed because
he’d left half an eyebrow behind. Harry
told them about Snape as they ate.
“I still can’t wrap my mind around Snape having a baby,” Ron
commented. “The two pictures just don’t
fit you know… By the way, where’s
Draco?”
Harry shrugged. “No
idea. I guess he’s taking a nap or something.”
Harry was relieved that Draco hadn’t come down for
lunch. He’d calmed down, but he wasn’t
in a very forgiving mood. Draco hadn’t
changed at all; he was still a self absorbed Slytherin through and through.
Draco didn’t even show up for Charms, and Professor Flitwick
sent a note to Lucius about it. Lucius
was worried and started looking for his son.
To his relief he found Draco in bed in Gryffindor tower.
“Draco, why didn’t you show up for class?” he yelled,
angrily striding over to the bed and looming over it.
He regretted yelling when Draco rolled over and Lucius saw
his tear stained cheeks. “What’s wrong?”
Lucius asked as he sat down on the edge of the bed.
Draco sniffed and wiped his eyes. “Harry hates me,” he whimpered.
“Harry doesn’t hate you,” Lucius tried to comfort him.
“Father, can I ask you something?”
“Anything, Dragon,”
Draco sat up and took a few deep breaths to calm
himself. “When someone’s your boyfriend,
aren’t they supposed to sleep with you?”
Lucius stared at him a moment, then let out a deep sigh and
frowned. “Draco, I’m sorry.”
“What are you sorry about?” Draco asked, more confused than
ever.
“I’m sorry for raising you the way my father raised me. After knowing James like I did I should’ve
known better.”
Draco sat quietly and let it all sink in. “So I was wrong?”
Lucius nodded. “First
of all, you’re too young for that kind of relationship. Second, when you care for someone, you don’t
force them into something like that. I
assume you care for Harry?”
Draco nodded. “I love
him.”
“Do you want him to be happy?”
Draco nodded again.
“Of course I do.”
Lucius took a moment to think about what he wanted to say to
his son. “Those who grow up in pureblood
families tend to have a rather warped sense of reality. Part of the reason I fell in love with James
was because he shattered those delusions for me. I think you’re starting to understand things
better, but because you lived in that environment so long there are still some
things you’re a little confused about obviously. I really am sorry; I thought I was doing what
was best for you.”
“Don’t be sorry,” Draco frowned. “I’m the one that screwed up. Did you ever fight with James?”
“Of course. All
couples fight. I’ll tell you about the
worst one though. It happened when I
gave in to my father and took the Dark Mark.”
“I guess James didn’t like that much….”
“Definitely not. When
I told him I’d prepared myself for the fit I thought he was going to have. I thought he’d scream at me, maybe even
attack me.”
“But what really happened?”
Lucius took a deep breath.
Just thinking about it made him want to cry. “Nothing.”
“Nothing?” Draco raised an eyebrow.
“Yes, nothing. I’ll
never forget the defeated look on his face when he just turned and left. I didn’t think I’d ever see him again.”
“So what happened?” Draco asked, now hanging on his father’s
every word.
“I fought for him. I
gave him a few days to calm down, and then I wrote him a letter begging him to
meet with me again. I didn’t know if
he’d come, but he did. We had a very
long talk and somehow we managed to work things out.”
“Was that when you started spying?”
“Yes. It was my
idea. I thought it would help prove to
him that I still loved him.”
“So how can I fix things with Harry?”
“I don’t know, Dragon.
Every relationship is different.
I’m sure you’ll figure it out. In
the meantime, I’ll tell your teachers you’re sick, and you can come down to the
dungeons with me and sit with Severus.
Draco hugged his father and followed him to Severus’. He was still confused, but things were
becoming clearer. He’d have to fight for
Harry, and not manipulate him this time.
He would have to show Harry he really was sorry, and that he had
changed.
James headed down to the dungeons with the kids after
dinner. He hadn’t heard anything yet, so
he assumed the baby hadn’t come. Lucius
and Draco were sitting quietly together with Julian on Severus’ couch. “How is he?” James asked.
“He says he’s ready to talk,” Lucius chuckled.
James laughed and went in to see Severus. Harry sat down in the armchair on the other
side of the room and wouldn’t look at Draco.
Severus was lying in bed covered only by a thin sheet. Sirius was positioned behind him and was
rubbing his shoulders. Severus looked
quite a bit different than usual; his hair was damp with sweat and clung to his
skin, and his complexion was slightly flushed.
“How’s the patient?” James asked, sitting on the edge of the
bed.
“He’s holding up,” Sirius answered, climbing out from behind
Severus and propping him up with pillows.
“Do you want some more water?”
“Please,” Severus answered, his voice raspy.
Sirius nodded and poured his lover a small glass of
water. “Lysandra said he’s progressing
well,” he said to James. “The baby
should come late tonight or tomorrow.”
Severus whimpered and reached for Sirius’ hand. “Couldn’t you just kill me now?”
“Oh, hush up!” James chided.
“It’s not that bad. “At least you
don’t have to go through this for two whole days. Where is Lysandra?”
“She went to get something to eat,” Sirius answered. “And don’t worry, she’s bringing something
back for me.”
James nodded. “All
right, well, everyone is anxiously waiting outside.”
“Thank you,” Sirius smiled and embraced James, kissing his
cheek.
James went back out to wait with everyone else and noticed
that Harry was gone. “Where’s Harry?”
“He ran into the bathroom,” Hermione answered. “He didn’t look well.”
James went to check on his son and found Harry kneeling in
front of the toilet. “Are you all right?”
he asked, kneeling down beside him.
Harry nodded. “Yeah,
I think I’m okay now.” He sat back and
wiped his mouth before flushing the toilet.
“Are you coming down with something?”
Harry bit his lip and didn’t answer right away. “Dad, I want to ask you something, but I’m
afraid you’ll be angry.”
“Now why would I be angry?” James asked, his mind quickly
putting the pieces together. He had an
idea of what Harry wanted to ask.
Harry swallowed hard.
“How- how do you know if you’re pregnant?”
James took a moment to let it sink in. “Well… nausea, lightheadedness, being tired,
being moody… Do you think you might
be….” He couldn’t bring himself to say
the word.
Harry nodded and a few tears slid down his cheeks. “I’ve been feeling like that since soon
after….”
“How soon after?”
Harry shrugged. “A
few days I guess.”
James sighed. Part of
him wanted to yell at Harry for not being more careful, but he knew Harry
needed him to be supportive. “The
symptoms usually don’t start so soon, but if you want to get tested I’ll
arrange it.”
Harry leapt into his father’s arms and hugged him
tight. “Is that what you and Draco were
fighting about?” James asked.
Harry shook his head.
“No, but I don’t want to talk about that.”
James helped Harry to his feet and took him back out to the
sitting room. His mind was reeling. He’d just become a parent again, and now he
might be about to become a grandfather.
It was a bit much to take in, but he decided not to think about it until
Harry was tested and it came back positive.
Ron and Hermione left around ten to go to bed. Neither of them were all that close to Sirius
or Severus, so they didn’t think they needed to stay.
Harry was nodding off in the armchair, and Julian was
getting fussy, so James transfigured the couch into a large bed like he’d done
with a table the night Arthur was injured.
Lucius and James lay in the middle with Julian between them. Draco lay next to Lucius, and Harry curled up
beside James. They were all fast asleep
within the hour.
James woke to Sirius roughly shaking him. He groaned and rubbed the sleep from his
eyes. The fire that had been burning in
the fireplace had gone out and the room was a little chilly.
“James, wake up!” Sirius shouted, grinning uncontrollably “It’s a girl!”
