Severus decided to wait until the weekend to speak to Hermione and Adrien together about how he'd gone about things. Hermione, being beside herself with a dire need to see Severus, Adrien had agreed to accompany her to his private rooms. It was Saturday, and it would most likely be the day that they were to have a meeting with Minerva.
"I spoke to Albus.." Severus began hesitantly. "I told him everything."
"You what!" Adrien exclaimed nearly spitting out the drink he just took.
"I told Albus." Severus repeated. "He says that since Hermione is of age, and doesn't necessarily have to be here this year, then it's really no problem, but there is always Minerva and her old fashioned ways."
"So what are we going to do?" Hermione asked.
"The best possible thing to do is... Talk to Minerva. And I was hoping you two would accompany me to Dumbledore's office so we can talk about it. So you can tell her your side of everything, Hermione. As well as you, Adrien."
"Why me?" Adrien asked.
"Because this is all your fault." Severus smirked.
Adrien and Hermione laughed. "It is your fault, Adrien."
"Oh fuck me... I guess it is." Adrien beamed.
"So I take this as a yes? Unanimous?" Severus asked with a raised brow.
"Yes." Hermione and Adrien both agreed.
"Thank you... You two are the very best. Now... Go about your business and I will come find you when it's time."
"We'll be down at the lake. I need to skip some fucking rocks." Adrien said.
"Don't be throwing them at Merpeople." Severus warned before sweeping from the room.
-----
"So what are we going to tell McGonagall?" Hermione asked, watching Adrien launch his rocks.
"The truth" he shrugged. "I'll tell her that you expressed having feelings for my father, and I'll admit that I... Pushed you two together."
"Do you think she'll really go for that?"
"Why wouldn't she? She knows I have a certain aptitude for trouble. And you can tell her your side of it. Tell her you began having feelings for him in third year, and we'll go from there. It will be fine, Hermione. Like my father said, you don't have to be here this year. You're here by choice. There really isn't much the old arse witch can do." Adrien grunted out as he tossed another rock.
"Adrien, Hermione."
They heard Severus call to them, and looked around to find him striding toward them.
"Minerva and Albus are waiting."
Hermione rose from her position on the ground and she and Adrien followed Severus back to the castle; her stomach doing flips the whole way up to the Headmaster's office. If she hadn't been telling herself it would be fine the entire way, she probably would have gotten sick.
"What's this all about?" Minerva demanded seeing the three come into the room.
"Minerva... Severus, Hermione, and Adrien, would like to speak to you." Albus said softly.
"Me? What ever for?" she asked sarcastically.
"I'll go first." Adrien said. "Have you ever loved anyone Professor McGonagall?" he asked boldly.
Hermione and Severus looked to one another confused, and then back to Adrien.
"Well... Yes, I have, Adrien. What meaning does this hold?" The old witch asked, sitting down.
"Well, if you have loved someone, I can tell you, you ought to know how hard it is to keep things together. Do you know what it's like to fight for someone you love?" Adrien asked.
McGonagall looked at the same time, confused, and touched. "Well, yes. I was young once." she said.
"Do you know what it's like to save someone's life? Do you understand how much it takes to try to ignore the feelings that come from your life being saved by someone?"
"What is the point of this, Mr. Snape?"
"My point,-" Adrien began pacing. "Is that Hermione here, saved my father's life. I think you know where I'm going with this."
"This is a scandal." Minerva said, realization suddenly dawning.
"It is not a scandal. Because Hermione, is of age. She does not have to be here. This young woman, is here entirely out of her own will."
"How did this happen?" she asked, rubbing her face in her hands.
"Hermione... I believe that's your question to answer." Adrien said.
"Well, Professor... I suppose I'll start at the beginning. The night Sirius lead us into the Shrieking Shack to expose Pettigrew, Severus came to help. Of course I didn't know if his intention was to "rescue" us, or to get satisfaction out of catching Sirius and Remus, but... Either way... Ever since then, I've had very strong feelings for Severus. At first I didn't understand it, and then came the last night of the war. Severus almost died, and Harry, Adrien and I saved his life, and since the time I kept close watch over him until he was able to move around again, I realized I was deeply in love with him." Hermione explained carefully.
"Miss Granger..." Minerva sighed, at a loss for words. "You're okay with this, Adrien? She's your friend."
"Well, to be honest... I'm the one who pushed them together." Adrien admitted, causing Minerva to give him a quizzical look.
"What do you mean?"
"Hermione had been telling me for years that she found my father attractive, and she was also attracted to his skills, and his intellect and just him all around. And being that she is nearly a match for him in his abilities, I figured why the hell not? So I began giving Hermione hints as to what he likes, she executed the plan perfectly, and now here we are. If I may say, Professor... You can't put an age, or a restriction on love. There's no fair way to go about it. And, as you well know, my father hasn't loved anyone since Harry's mother, and you have to understand just how unfair that is." Adrien said.
Minerva lowered her gaze to her aging hands and smiled slightly. "Okay. You've plead a fair case, I suppose. Severus, I apologize for threatening your job, but I do ask that you and Hermione keep it under wraps. In other words, this conversation does not leave this room."
"Alright then. Problem solved." Adrien proudly stated.
"Yes, well.. I say this, because other students' parents may find it unsettling." Minerva said. "With that being said, I'll take my leave."
"Thank you, Minerva." Albus said with a small smile.
The older witch stood and nodded to the Headmaster before sweeping from the room.
"Oh that was fucking brilliant. I just schooled that old witch." Adrien exclaimed, throwing a fist in the air in mock victory.
"I say, Adrien, you really are something else." Albus said, eyes twinkling brightly.
Severus felt himself deflate with relief, and the best part of it was, he didn't even have to say a damn word. He really did have the best and brightest son any father could ask for.
