Chapter 57

�Shitshitshit.� Severus had not felt so desolate, so helpless, so desperately anguished since the death of Lily. Only this time it was worse, Kathy was alive, he didn�t want her to die, no matter what it took.

�Please my Lord, don�t kill her. I didn�t betray you, I didn�t, but the woman, I have grown fond of her. You promised me Lily�s life once and took it, don�t take Kathy�s. I will do anything you want of me, but please, let me have the woman. Pepper-Up potion, that�s all you need to regain your strength. Please don�t hurt her.�
He tore his eyes from Voldemort to the doorway when she let out a howl of pain or rage.
The Death Eaters that had taken her from the room, now returned hot on her heels. They were badly weakened and she�d managed to escape their grasp. Others joined them to hold her back.
Her face was contorted with hatred, her eyes a red glow that pierced all who dared to look at them.

�You. You plead for my life Severus. You are nothing. He is nothing.� She spat, looking to Voldemort. All of you are nothing against me.�

She crackled with energy and in a split second the ones holding her fell to the floor in a flash of green light, lifeless eyes staring up at a lifeless ceiling.
Severus paled, wandlessly releasing his own bonds as she radiated the evil power, hatred, and cruelty the Dark Lord had harboured. Only now it was worse, she had no control over it. Instead it controlled her, used her, making her more dangerous than the Dark Lord had ever been.

�Kathy don�t do this. It�s not you, this� it�s taking over you. Fight it Kathy, please. Don�t allow yourself to be the same as those who took away your family, your children. Fight it Kathy. Take control of it.�
She looked at Severus, head tilted slightly as, somewhere inside herself, she strove to listen to what he was telling her. The red glow in her eyes faded slightly, flared up and faded again.
�That�s right Kathy.� Severus said softly, inching his way towards her as the others watched silently, not daring to move in front of the spectre she had become. �Take control, remember who you are. Remember David, remember Elizabeth and Gwen, your love for them. Remember us Kathy, what we had, what we shared.�
The green light that still encompassed her slowly began to fade, the red light in her eyes dimmed as tears filled her eyes and rolled down her cheeks. �My babies Severus. I want them back. I want you. I want to be free of the hurt. I want to be loved. I want my life back.�
�I can give you love Kathy, if that�s what you want, but I cannot give you back your children. But don�t kill anyone else, don�t lower yourself to that. Let me take you away from here, then if you want your life, it�s yours.� He reached out his arms and she fell into them, clinging to him, sobbing loudly.
Severus accio�d his wand, and no one attempted to stop them, as he led her from the room and out of the Manor. He knew there would be a lot of explaining to do, and even worse punishment if he was to make Voldemort believe he was acting for the good of pureblood supremacy, but right now he needed to get Kathy back to Hogwarts. He needed Albus� help to keep her calm and in control of herself. If he�d allowed her free reign in there she would have destroyed Voldemort, killed him quite easily in fact, but then he would have returned and that couldn�t be allowed to happen.

As soon as they reached the boundary of Malfoy grounds, he apparated.

At the gates of Hogwarts he sent a red flare signal from his wand immediately, and it wasn�t long before Albus and several of the staff arrived to greet them.
�Help me get her inside Albus. I will explain once Kathy is secure.�

�Secure? Severus, why on earth would she need securing?�

Minerva gulped when Kathy looked at her with loathing, the redness of her eyes beginning to flare again.
�Fight it Kathy. Fight it damn you.� Severus ground out. He felt her slump against him slightly and scooped her up into his arms. �Make sure there are no students about. We need the corridors and stairs clear. I can think of only one place that will hold her while she is like this.�

Flitwick and Hooch ran ahead to ensure all the students were in their common rooms by the time Severus entered with Kathy. He stared straight ahead as he made for the main staircase and began the long climb to the seventh floor.
Still holding her, he paced back and forth in front of the seventh floor wall until a heavy duty door appeared. It was intricately carved with symbols, bound with thick iron bands and lined with lead.

He glanced at Albus and the older wizard opened the door.
When Severus first entered he thought the room had made a mistake, or that he�d not made his request clear enough. It soon became apparent that the room knew exactly what was required.
It was almost a replica of her rooms downstairs, this time however there was no fireplace, no sharp edges, no mirrors or paintings, and the furniture looked to be bolted firmly to the floor.

The walls, though they seemed to be made of stone with wood panelling on the lower half, were actually lead, disguised to give the appearance of wood and stone.

Whatever happened with Kathy now, she would not be able to leave this room without his express permission, nor would she be able to break out, or cause harm to anyone that happened to be outside the ROR.

He laid her down on the settee, sometime on the way up here she�d fallen asleep in his arms and he didn�t want to waken her.

He placed a finger to his lips and gestured to the others to leave the room.

Giving her one last glance, he followed, closing the door behind him and watching as it disappeared from view.
Once they were all ensconced in the Headmasters office, Severus related all that happened since he was summonsed.

�I didn�t know what else to do, she would have killed all of us, the Dark Lord included. Even if I survived I would not have his trust when he returned. This way I can go back and hopefully make him believe I was ignorant of this sudden newfound ability of hers. At least until you have some other marvellous idea to try and get me killed Albus. For now he is weak, weaker than he has ever been, but it is not enough, he still retains some element of magic and from that he will regain his strength and power. There was not time enough for Kathy to complete the Leeching.�
Severus knew the only way to convince Voldemort of his loyalty was to return immediately and grovel. He left the castle grounds and apparated directly back to Malfoy Manor, and a welcoming committee that was far from welcoming.
