Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. That lucky duck JK Rowling does. I don't make any money from this fanfic. I just play with her toys and put them back in relatively good condition. |
Draco finished the final tie and sat back, taking in the beauty that was his wife. She looked amazing in blood red silk sashes. They crisscrossed in between her breasts and then wound around them, making them stand at attention. The sashes continued to cross her torso, framing her abs. He made sure to tie them to where all of her tattoos were visible. The tie continued down her legs, not binding her, merely accentuating her beauty. He didn’t want her to be hindered but he knew she loved the feel of the silk against her skin.
“I’ll remember this always,” he whispered.
Hermione smiled at him and carefully stepped her way over. He hadn’t immobilized her, but the ties were tight and somewhat constricting. She loved it. And the way it made Draco’s eyes light up only increased her enjoyment. He always had a thing for her in ropes… or sashes… or cuffs… or any other restraining thing he could get a hold of at the time.
“I’ll miss this,” she admitted.
He sighed and pulled her into his arms. “We have tonight.”
“We can’t stay away, Draco.”
“I know, love, but I want a chance for a proper goodbye for us.”
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Eternity. That’s what we were promised.”
“And those promises have been so iron clad,” he said dryly.
She sniffed and reached up to kiss him. The kiss was slow and sweet, reminiscent of another time they thought they’d have to say goodbye. They’d made it that time, but they weren’t so sure about this time. Harry had been the sacrificial lamb. Now it was all them. Oh, they wouldn’t be going down like meek little mice, they’d go out scratching and biting and breathing fire. It would be brilliant. But she couldn’t help but wonder if they shouldn’t make a deal anyway, just in case.
“It’s an interesting thought,” he said aloud. “What would we bargain with though?”
“Guarantees,” she said.
“But we can’t do that. And I doubt they are in any shape to see into the future.”
She shrugged. “Just make love to me and we’ll figure it out later.”
He was more than happy to comply with her request. They moved slowly, worshiping each other with their mouths, their hands, and their words. At times, they couldn’t tell whether they were speaking to each other in their minds or aloud… or perhaps a combination of the two. When it got to be too much, he entered her, reveling in the feeling of being one.
They made love for hours, losing track of time and how many times they had climaxed. Their magic kept them from getting tired, spared them from being hungry or thirsty, kept them focused on each other. It was like their cores had sensed the absolute importance of this last unhurried coupling. They might get a quick fuck in before the war, perhaps a bite or two, but this was their last chance to reconnect at the deepest level, their souls.
Finally, when they couldn’t stand it any longer, they bit each other, slowly sipping their lifeblood. The bonds flared brilliantly, taking their sight away. All they could feel was pleasure and each other but unlike all the other times, they didn’t feel the need to consume. They didn’t have to gulp. They didn’t even have to pull the blood, just simply lie there with their fangs inserted into one another. Black dots entered their vision and they pulled back, licking their wounds before falling into a sated sleep. Whatever came next would be tough, but they’d make it… somehow.

“Are you sure about this?” Melody asked as she huddled on the cold floor of the guest house with her sister.
Harmony snorted. “I’m sure. They’ve decided to make a deal. We need to make one too.”
“But won’t that negate theirs?” Cadence asked sleepily as she cuddled with Rhapsody across from their mentors.
“Not if we don’t counter it,” Rhapsody said softly.
“Right,” Harmony said. “We agree to their terms… but with our own terms as well. But… it will mean giving up our gifts.”
“They can have them,” Rhapsody and Cadence said at the same time.
Melody chuckled. “Well said. I just hope I don’t go blind again.”
“You shouldn’t,” Rhapsody said with a frown. “It was the, ahem, gift that caused it in the first place. No gift, no reason to punish you.”
“True,” Melody said. “But we also won’t have leverage.”
“For?” Cadence asked slowly, her eyes darting between her mother and her aunt.
“Holy shit,” Rhapsody breathed. “Mom’s going to try to be a daywalker.”
“For dad?” Cadence asked.
Harmony nodded. “He’s miserable and I can’t stand it.”
“Think they’ll go for it?” Rhapsody asked.
Melody shrugged. “Only one way to find out.”
“Besides,” Harmony said. “Without the gift, I’m sure we won’t be immune to venom anymore.”
Cadence teared up. “You’d become a vampire for him?”
“Of course I would,” Harmony said quietly. “I’d die for him… quite literally.”
“So what are our terms?” Rhapsody asked.
Melody sighed. “Well, they’re going to agree to being used at the weapon, so to speak. We can agree to gift them with everything, make sure the end does happen, at the cost of our gifts and servitude.”
“So let me get this straight,” Cadence said slowly. “When the time comes… we’ll all be lending our powers to Draco and Hermione.”
Melody nodded. “Do you know any other way to defeat a God?”
Cadence shook her head. “Not particularly. And when that happens, they’ll end the war.”
“We hope,” Harmony said.
Cadence bit her lip. “And the price of perfect obedience is giving up our gifts.”
“And our servitude,” Melody said. “Remember, our family has served them since the Dark Ages. We have gifts, they use them to balance the world. If we save the world and renounce the gifts, we have the right to refuse servitude.”
“We’ll be free,” Cadence whispered.
“Finally,” Melody sighed.
“No more headaches,” Cadence said dreamily.
“No more nightmares,” Rhapsody said soberly.
“And no more warnings,” Harmony said sternly. “We’ll be ordinary witches, if that. They might even take the phenom powers away, balance us out.”
“I’m not seeing a downside,” Rhapsody said with a grin. “Lily and Cecil will be normal. There will be no bindings for ultimate balance. We won’t be freaks.”
“I beg to differ,” Melody said. “We’ll always be a little freaky… but I’m pretty sure that has nothing to do with our powers.”
Rhapsody chuckled. “Too right.”
“So we’re doing this?” Cadence asked.
Melody nodded. “We’ll move after they do. That deal has to be constructed first. They’ll make contingencies for us that Nemesis will have to consult with us to uphold. Got to love the mind of a Slythern combined with a Gryffindor. Bold and sneaky, my favorite combination.”
“How will everyone else take it?” Cadence whispered.
“They’ll have no choice,” Harmony said quietly. “And for once, I can’t find it in me to find fault with it.”

“We’ve never done this before,” Hermione murmured, looking out into their back garden.
Draco sighed. “We’ve got to try.”
“Think she’s listening?”
“We’ve summoned Fortuna before.”
“Because she promised us a boon.”
Draco hummed in agreement and took her hand before venturing into the back yard. They knelt facing each other, hands clasped and heads bowed. He took a deep breath and cleared his throat, preparing to sign their death warrants.
“Oh Goddess Nemesis, we have a proposition for you. Please bestow us with your presence.”
CRACK!
“I do believe that is what you humans call overkill.”
Draco sniffed at the newly arrived goddess and got up off the ground, pulling his wife with him. “We weren’t sure you were listening. Every god loves their egos to be stroked.”
“Good point,” Nemesis said with a smirk. “Your young ones need to learn that.”
“What happened?” Hermione asked.
Nemesis looked to be suppressing a laugh. “It seems that one of the walkers, the quarterling, told Triton exactly what he thought of him.”
Draco winced. “How did he take it?”
“Not well. However, he did gain his attention. He had gained an audience with Lord Poseidon.”
“When?” Hermione breathed.
Nemesis frowned and closed her eyes for a few minutes before nodding and looking at them again. “Now.”
“Shit,” Draco hissed. “We shouldn’t have stayed away.”
“You made the correct decision pure couple. What was it you wished to speak with me about?”
Draco sighed. “We know your plan. We’re the catalyst and we’ll be destroyed to restore the balance.”
“How did you learn of this?” Nemesis asked with feigned interest.
“Oh please,” Hermione said petulantly. “You’ve played with the very fabric of magic, bestowed powers on enough people to tip the balance you work so desperately to keep. But you were careful about it. You made sure to keep it as close to the family you’ve had under your thumb as possible. And combined, we’re strong enough to fight a god. It was a perfect plan.”
“You are very smart,” Nemesis said softly. “And I know you would not believe that I do not wish for it to end this way.”
“Give me a break,” Draco said. “You haven’t suddenly become attached to mortals.”
“Not suddenly, no.”
Draco and Hermione paused for a moment and studied the Goddess. She didn’t look like her benevolent self, detached or even smug. There were no Fates with her to torment, no Fortuna to grace them with, no Persephone for them to interrogate. She looked… disappointed. And sad. It was a strange look for her.
Nemesis gave them a weak smile. “So you know the plan the Fates have set for you. What did you want to speak with me about?”
“You like revenge,” Draco started, allowing the goddess time to agree. “Mostly on the Fates.”
Nemesis grinned then. “Now you have gained my interest.”
“We agree to the plan,” Hermione cut in. “We’ll accept the power, wield it, crush the mortals, and fight Hades. But if we do this, we want a guarantee.”
“You believe you deserve one?” Nemesis asked.
Draco smirked. “Our orders were to balance the mortals, not the gods. We could just crush Moira and leave without penalty. Rules are rules.”
Nemesis bit her lip, a mischievous twinkle in her eye. “A fair point.”
“We’ll include the gods,” Draco said. “We’ll agree to be destroyed, but the others must be set free. This war should balance the world for at least a generation. That is plenty of time to find another couple or couples to do your bidding.”
“You must accept the powers of others given freely,” Nemesis said softly. “They must agree or your deal is over.”
Draco sighed. “Then contact them. Hopefully they will see sense.”
Nemesis nodded but she didn’t blink out. “Pure couple, if this is the last time we speak… I wish you luck.”
“Thank you Goddess Nemesis,” Draco said softly. Hermione nodded beside him.
The Goddess smiled. “I’ll send a flash if they agree.”
The couple stood in the garden for the better part of an hour before the sky flashed a brilliant gold.
“It’s done,” Hermione breathed. “They’re free.”
Draco nodded. “Finally. Come on, love. Let’s finish that will and go back. They’ll want answers.”

“Do we have an accord?” Melody asked the goddess standing before her. She had been nominated to sneak out of the house and speak with her.
Nemesis nodded. “Yes. It has the added benefit of angering the Fates.”
Melody chuckled. “You always did love revenge.”
“Do you not?”
“Oh I do. I’m just glad someone sees it my way.”
Nemesis smiled at Melody and reached out to caress her jaw. “You are so strong fated twin. It will be sad to see you lose the touch. Are you sure you will only obey this way?”
“Yes,” Melody said. “I’d give up everything for this, for my babies to be free of this weight on their shoulders.”
“Has it really been so bad?”
Melody huffed and shook her head. “No. Some of it was very good. But they don’t need to know the burden. They have enough on their minds.”
“Like what happens after the war?”
Melody nodded. “Will they still be soul mates?”
“Of course. Aphrodite would curse me if I broke up soul mates. But they might find their powers waning.”
“Nemesis, how many boons are we owed still?”
Nemesis frowned. “I am not sure of that. I believe there is at least one more.”
Melody sighed. “Would you consider an exchange of a soul for a soul?”
“Harmony and Philippe are not soul mates,” Nemesis said softly.
Melody frowned. “I know but… how can she not read him if they aren’t?”
Nemesis nodded. “It is a very good point. I will inquire about it. Perhaps I can pull a favor.”
“Thank you,” Melody said sincerely.
“You are most welcome fated twin. It is rare to find one willing to give life for life… and you have provided us an entire family of those rarities. Be well in all your endeavors… should we not meet again.”
“Be well, Goddess Nemesis,” Melody said, brushing tears from her eyes as the Goddess disappeared.
“She doesn’t need to do it.”
Melody spun to see brother-in-law lurking in the shadows. “She’s practically drowning in her guilt, Philippe. She blames herself for not being able to let go.”
“I’ve come to understand it now,” he said, zooming up to her. “It took me a few weeks to get used to this. I still hate it. But I could never blame her. I’m the idiot that got caught.”
Melody huffed. “Come on Dr. Phil. Let’s go tell the others the bad news. Hermione and Draco will be returning soon.”
“And Nate?”
Melody sighed. “They’ve been gone for an exceptionally long time. We can only hope that Poseidon agrees to help us.”

Nate climbed out of the water, sputtering at the taste in his mouth. He couldn’t believe his other form was a shark. Furthermore, he had almost suffocated himself because he had shifted on land. Poseidon took mercy on him and threw him into the water, but it wasn’t an easy landing. He’d been shocked to find that Ana was a dolphin but it seemed fitting.
“Little wet?”
“Thank you, Lord Poseidon,” Nate said, careful to keep his bitterness to himself.
Having to suck up to the God of the Sea was wearing on his nerves. Now he knew why his mom was so snippy with Nemesis. They were so full of themselves it was sickening. But they needed the god’s backing so he endured. If his mom could do it with a semblance of grace, then so could he. Besides, everyone was counting on them.
“You do not like being subservient,” Poseidon said thoughtfully.
“Not particularly,” Nate said through gritted teeth.
He casted a wandless drying charm on himself and started picking the algae off of his robes. Ana came out of the water a moment later, drenched but happy. He couldn’t help but smile at her as he dried her off. She looked so happy to be in the water and he wanted to see her like that all the time.
“But you care for others,” Poseidon continued.
“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t,” Nate said.
Poseidon nodded. “I will take everything you’ve said under consideration. You will know my answer on the day of battle.”
Before Nate could protest, the God disappeared into the sea. They silently stared at the sea until the sun set and the weather grew cold.
“Shit,” Nate growled, gathering his mate close. “Come on. We’ll have to be ready, with or without him.”
