"To tell you the truth, not much. Do you remember that Platinum mine robbery I told you and Harry about just over ten yahren {years} ago?"
A frown as he thought. "Hum...vaguely, but then I would have been about eight. Why do you ask?"
"There were actually six people involved in it. We only captured four of them because the other two escaped. Simply...disappeared. Both were dark of hair, eyes like that sherry your grandmother likes to drink after supper, faces tanned with an angular, almost autocratic look. They were tall, over six feet, and probably in their mid to late twenties. They were both extremely fit, lean...and strong. Now that I think on it, they both looked a bit like you, except when it came to their hair, eyes and build."
A slight lifting of his lips. "I suppose they do. They're also quite a bit taller. way more muscled than I am, or will ever hope to be."
"Don't sell yourself short, Roark. You're young yet, with perhaps a couple more yahrens {year} of growing to do. Well, as much as you may look like them, your personalities are completely different. They were both extremely hard, cold...and deadly. They took out several security officers, though...now that I think on it, neither ever once struck out at a Colonial Warrior, except in self-defense, and it was to wound, never kill, which I found to be odd. After their escape, we never found any trace of them, and that was with Roark and Thorin sending out their best trackers. They just...disappeared."
A wry grin. "Well, that certainly sounds like the Rodolphus and Rabastan we have here, ghostly shadows that they are. I believe their inherit magic may be shadow magic, though I thought I'd heard somewhere that Rodolphus was a water mage." 'As for the cold part,' he thought, 'not so much.' The memory of their passion two nights ago was still very fresh in his mind, suddenly flooding him with heat, making him shift in his chair as he felt himself harden."
Oh no, Rodolphus had certainly not been cold that night, and from what Harry had told him of his night with Rabastan, neither hadn't been anywhere near cold. "Roark," came his grandfather's voice into his thought, "are you sure I can't convince you and Harry to come home?"
'Not a chance in HELL,' he thought. "No Grandfather, you can't. I'm sorry, but we aren't going to leave now." Especially if there was a chance of another night in the arms of his Terminator. They had said only the one night, but Roark found himself wishing for another one...and so much more.
'Well, FUCK,' he swore. 'How right Alexei and Tyler had been right. That kind of passion WAS hard to resist. Oh dear, sweet, Kobol, I'm in so much trouble. We both were, as he was beyond sure that Harry wanted the same.'
"Of course, you won't," came his grandfather's disgruntled tone, pulling his attention back to him. "You know, I could have you recalled."
"Yes, you could," he agreed with a smile, looking at his grandfather's stern facade, "but you won't. Any more than Thorin would recall Fili and Kili, or Roark would recall Logan, or they would recall us. Like it or not, Grandfather, we are now Counter-Intelligence Officers. All of you know very well that to recall us now would destroy all the hard work that we've put in to get where we are. Besides, we can't...no, we WON'T leave the Durins here on their own with the leak that murdered their brother, their cousin. The very same one who has had hits put on Logan and Kili."
"I just don't want to believe that Ardyn had gone so bad, Roark."
"None of us wanted to believe it, Grandfather, but his actions these last few sectars {months}, have really put him in question. Besides, Harry and I NEED to stay here. We have to find out the truth of what happened to him, and finally, we HAVE to stop Tom Riddle's reign of terror."
He gave a deep sigh. "Why you? Why Harry? Why are you and your brother so damned determined to stay there and see this through despite the danger Riddle represents to the two of you?"
Roark had to smile. "You know very well what our reasons are, Grandfather, but I'll tell them to you again if you really need to hear them. Because he killed Mother and Father. Because he tried to kill us. Because he's done the same to other families. Because it's the job we were sent here to do."
Adama began to mutter a few choice words that had his grandson blinking. As he listened to him, he suddenly began to chuckle. A chuckle that soon broke into a full-fledged laugh. "Really, Grandfather, aren't you a bit old to be throwing a temper tantrum?"
A rough chuckle sounded. "Show some respect, brat," he told him, looking back at him.
"Yes Sir," he replied with a mock salute, but then he sobered suddenly, his expression becoming more serious. "About Logan and Kili--"
Adama held up a hand. "Think nothing about it. Knowing you as I do, while you told them this wouldn't be a permanent assignment, that's exactly what you would like for them. So tell me, what would you LIKE to see happen to our two young Lieutenant's?"
"Logan misses Christopher something awful, hell, come right down to it, he misses all his brothers, and I know Ki misses the cousins. At the moment though, the only ones within his reach would be Chris, Colten, Damien, Dylan, Payton, and Ethan."
"Hum...mmm," came his hum.
"Do you think it could be done?"
Commander Jacob Adama gave his youngest grandson a smile. "Well, we could always use more good pilots aboard the Galactica, and I must admit, those six have been coming to me on a regular basis to express their concern, especially after Kale was murdered."
"You can reassure them that he's doing much better than when we first arrived here. If they could be posted to the Galactica, that would be one major worry off my mind. It would also very likely get them out of the reach of those Terminators that are sure to be coming after them sooner, rather than later."
"Then I will see what I can do, but keep in mind they could just as easily go to the Solaria. Roark has been grumbling rather loudly that he doesn't have near enough family around him."
Roark laughed. "Of course he has. I swear, that family is so close, I'm surprised they can be separated for long lengths of time without going through separation anxiety. Well, if he DOES manage to snatch them from you, all the better. Thank you, Grandfather."
"You're welcome."
"How's grandmother?" Uncles Apollo and Zac? Aunt Athena? They're all well, I hope?"
"Your grandmother is just fine. Worried out of her mind for her grandsons. She's informed me that if I heard from you or your brother, I was to be sure to tell you both she loves you."
"We send her back our love. Give her a kiss and hug from us both. Uncle Apollo?"
"Fine. He and Zac just started a leave cycle. Colten and Dylan drew the same leave period, as did Lt. Starbuck and Boomer. Athena is still aboard the Galactica doing some work on the Viper control mainframe. Once that has been completed she is due a leave period as well."
"Well, I certainly hope Uncle Apollo and Uncle Zac are enjoying themselves. Tell them hello from us, and not to let Starbuck get them into too much trouble."
A chuckle sounded. "So says our little demon imp who could never seem to stay out of trouble himself, and always managed to drag his brother right along with him. Along with a few certain Durins, I won't name."
"Why Grandfather," came back in as innocent a tone as he could muster, "I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about." Suddenly he began to laugh. "We certainly did manage to keep all of you on your toes didn't we?"
"That you did."
"You know, it really is amazing to me just how much I miss all of them. We spent nearly as much time in the Durin home as we did in ours. I miss Aunt Athena, Uncle Apollo, and Zac just as much. None of them were home when Harry and I returned from Virgon, nor were they home when we were deployed here."
"Trust me, they're missing you and Harry just as much. Perhaps you'll get to see some of them soon."
Roark shook his head as the door chimed, then slid open. Turning his head to see who entered, he gave a slight frown. "Listen, Grandfather, I need to get going. Give everyone our love, and do tell Logan and Kili I'm sorry. I just feel that this is the right thing for me to do. I know they'll see my hand in this and likely be furious about it."
"I'll do that for you, Rory," he said seeing the frown and how his normally bright silver eyes dimmed, how he grew guarded, which could mean only one thing. Ardyn. "Promise me you'll take care of yourself, young man? You and Harry are to watch each other's backs."
"The Lestrange's don't hit from behind. They like it too much when their victims can see exactly who is killing them."
"As true as that is, Roark, THEY are not your only enemy there, now are they?"
"No, that they are not, but do try not to worry too much, Grandfather. Trust me when I say Harry and I have our backs VERY well guarded."
"Fine then, do give those Durin boys my best, and be sure to tell them that if anything happens to my grandsons on their watch, I'll kick their asses to the outer rim territories and back again."
"Grandfather!"
"I love you, Roark. Be sure to give Harry my love as soon as you see him."
"I will. Love you too, Grandfather."
The screen went blank as soon as the call disconnected.
