Chapter 6: Learning Something New Every Day
“Hey kiddo,” said Sirius the next morning as Harry walked downstairs and into the kitchen.
“Hey Siri,” mumbled Harry who then yawned a few seconds afterwards. He was so tired and it was very understandable why. The conversation with his grandfather wouldn’t stop repeating itself in his head and he had a restless night because of it, only finally falling asleep when the sun began to rise.
“Get enough sleep?” Remus asked as Harry sat down at the table and dropped his head, making a loud bang.
“No,” mumbled Harry again.
Harry couldn’t stop the yawn that escaped him once again as he lifted up his head and held his hand over his mouth. Harry stretching as his yawn subsided and looked around the kitchen to find Remus sitting at the table with Sirius. At the moment, Sirius had his arms wrapped around Remus’ waist and was giving him little kisses on his neck. Harry thought that that was so adorable and vaguely wondered if he and Draco would ever be like that.
“What are you guys doing here?” Harry asked out of curiosity.
“Remy and I had some catching up to do with James and decided to take you and your sister to school today,” said Sirius.
“Oh,” Harry nodded, still half asleep to really hear his godfather’s response.
“Morning all,” said Lily as she walked into the kitchen. “Harry, are you okay?” She asked upon seeing Harry drop his head back down on the table.
“I’m fine,” Harry’s muffled voice came. Then Harry suddenly lifted up his head. “Mum did you know that Cedric goes to Hogwarts?”
“No I didn’t,” said Lily as she sat down beside Harry with a worried expression on her face. “Did anything happen?”
“No. It’s just that yesterday at school he came up to me and told me that he wanted us to get back together, but I told Cedric -”
“What’s this about Cedric?” James asked as he walked into the kitchen and kissed Lily on the forehead.
“James did you know that Cedric goes to Harry’s school?”
“Yeah… That’s one of the reasons why I sent him there. I remembered how depressed Harry was when he left. I thought it would be a perfect chance for them to get back together again.”
Unfortunately for him, Harry had only told his mother and sister about the little fiasco that had gone on between him and Cedric. He had never gotten around to telling anyone else. He had felt, and still feels, that telling his father, or his godfather for that matter, about someone trying to take advantage of him would be unhealthy for that person.
“Why, was that a bad thing?” James asked uncertainly.
“No,” Harry shook his head, but mentally groaning at the prospect of going to school with Cedric for a whole year.
“Harry what would you like for breakfast?” Lily asked, hoping to change the subject.
“Coco Puffs,” he answered quickly.
Just then, Sammy walked into the room and sat down beside her brother. Harry thought that this was the best time to ask his parents about going to the amusement park with Draco. Of course knowing that his parents didn’t really like the Malfoys very much he would have to be careful about what he said.
“Um Mum, Dad,” said Harry as he was given his cereal, “I found out yesterday that Mr. Diggory owns a Fair somewhere around here and was wondering if I could go on Friday after school.”
“Ooh there’s an amusement park here?” Sammy asked excitedly as she too was handed a bowl of cereal. “Where is it?”
“I don’t know exactly. One of my friends told me about it and said he’d take me there on Friday if I could go,” Harry said, stretching the truth only a little. After all, Draco was going to take him; it was just going to be against the blonde’s will. “Please Mum can I go?”
“Are you sure that you want to go?” Lily asked, looking a little worried.
“Mum it’s an amusement park,” said Harry, thinking that it was a good enough reason for wanting to go.
“I don’t see why he can’t go,” said James, with a smirk on his face, which surprised Harry.
“Alright, but take your sister along with you, just in case.”
“Just in case of what?” Harry laughed.
“Just … in case,” she said, looking pointedly at Harry, who understood completely. Just in case Cedric tried anything.
“Cool,” said Sammy. “I’m going to an amusement park. I think I’ll ask one of my friends if she’d like to go as well. I think she will because she told me she thinks Harry’s a hunk,” she said and laughed when Harry coughed into his cereal bowl. Sammy started eating her cereal and smiled as she saw Remus leaning on Sirius’ shoulder and sighing. “So what brings two of the greatest godfathers in the world here anyway?” Sammy asked.
“They’re dropping us off at school today,” Harry said, answering for the aforementioned godfather’s.
“I don’t think so. Getting dropped off by a teacher is the fastest way to drop in popularity,” she said as she sat down at the table.
“So I take it that you’re popular?” Sirius asked with a small smirk on his face.
“Of course I am. I’m the new girl. I’m automatically cool because of the mystery thing. All the cool girls want to be my friend, guys are asking me out every second and one really weird seventh grader keeps following me around wherever I go.”
“What do you mean?” James asked suddenly. “Who’s been asking you out?”
“Oh Dad relax. It’s not like I’ve accepted any of them … yet,” Sammy reassured, though she mumbled out the last word.

‘I can’t wait to see him again…,’ thought Draco as he sat in the back of his Hurst, ‘…to see those bright green eyes smiling at me.’
Draco shook his head. ‘What is wrong with you, Draco?’ The blonde asked himself. ‘You’re a Malfoy. Malfoys don’t act like some kind of a disgusting lovesick schoolboy.’
“Master Malfoy,” the chauffeur said in a monotone voice, pulling Draco out of his train of thought. “We have arrived at the Potter’s house.”
“Well then get out and go and get Harry!” Draco snapped.
“Yes sir.”
The blonde watched as the chauffeur got out of the car and walked up to Harry’s house. ‘I can’t believe I got so far with him already,’ he started thinking happily. ‘Contacting my father and asking him to invite Harry’s grandfather and the rest of the Potter’s over to dinner helped a great deal. I know my father has something else planed concerning Harry’s family, but what? The sooner I figure this out the better. I should probably ask Severus. He will tell me what I want to know. After all, he would do anything for his precious godson.’
As Draco was thinking, he noticed that the chauffeur was coming back to the car, without Harry. When the chauffeur got back into the car, Draco was beside himself with confusion and anger.
“Aren’t you forgetting someone?” The blonde asked coolly.
“Young Mister Potter will not be accompanying you on your ride to school today Master Malfoy,” the chauffeur informed him in that same monotone voice before starting the car and driving away from Harry’s house.
“Why?” Draco asked as he pushed himself against the driver’s seat.
“I was told that he will be taken to school by someone else.”
“And do you know who this person was?”
“I’m afraid I was not given that information, sir.”
Disappointed, Draco leaned back in his seat and frowned. ‘Didn’t he want to ride to school with me?’ The blonde asked himself almost fearfully. ‘Was it something I said? Maybe it was that whole thing with the Slytherins and Gryffindors that bothered him. That Granger must have warned him about being friends with me. I hate that girl so much.’

Draco, who was in a very disturbed mood, arrived early at school like he always did. He walked down the halls and into his favorite class. He sat down at his seat and stared straight ahead, thinking about what to do next to win Harry over. Anyone watching Draco wouldn’t have known that he was in any kind of a mood for Draco had mastered the ability to hide his emotions from people. However, those who knew him well could always see past his mask and tell what he was really feeling, as Professor Snape was doing right now. Professor Snape knew something was wrong as he watched Draco come into the room and sit down at his desk.
“Is there something wrong Draco?” Professor Snape asked, concern only showing in his eyes.
“No… Nothing,” said Draco.
The blonde was thankful that Professor Snape didn’t pursue the matter. It wasn’t a surprise that he was left alone, though. Draco knew his godfather was and always will be a private man. Of course, when his Professor hadn’t pursued the matter, the blonde remembered he had wanted to discuss something with his godfather.
“Severus?” Draco started, and knowing he was the only student privileged enough to call this man by his first name.
“Yes,” the aforementioned teacher said as he stopped cleaning the chalkboard to face his student.
“Do you know how my father and Harry’s father know each other?” The blonde asked.
He was shocked a moment later when he saw how quickly the older man’s eyes had turned from an almost fatherly kindness to seeing them burning with anger and hatred.
If you’ll excuse me,” said Severus as he left his very confused godson.
Severus hated to think about James, but that was all he was able to do. Severus hated the irritation man with a passion and wanted to make him suffer.
‘After all, didn’t he make me suffer,’ though Severus. ‘Didn’t he ruin my life when I was the happiest man on the face of the earth?
As he was reminiscing about his happier days - and cursing James’ name for taking his happiness away from him - Severus saw the most beautiful person that he had ever had the pleasure of feasting his eyes upon.

Remus Lupin was in his classroom, tuning a violin and humming to himself when…
“Remus,” a voice called out to him.
Looking up to see who had called out to him, Remus was only a little surprise to see Severus Snape standing at his classroom door. “Severus what a pleasure,” he greeted with a kind smile. “Is there something you wanted?”
Severus opened his mouth to respond but his heart was beating faster and faster and his words got caught up in his throat. ‘How does he do that?’ Severus wondered, choosing to close his mouth and shake his head to Remus’ question instead. Looking around the room for a while, and fixing his eyes on anything but Remus, Snape finally found his voice.
“I see that mongrel has left you unguarded for once,” he said in resentment.
“Severus,” warned Remus, his eyes slightly narrowed at the insult to his lover. “I’ve told you a million times not to call him that.”
“I just don’t understand why you left me for him,” Snape said bitterly. “He’s just so…”
“Right for me,” finished Remus, a small smile gracing his lips as he spoke.
“I could have been right for you,” said Severus when he finally looked at Remus before walking further into the room.
“I’m sorry Severus, but I just didn’t feel that way about you back then. And I’m afraid to say that I still don’t feel that way about you.”
“If you had given me a chance, you would have,” Snape said as he stood in front of the still seated man. “You still could,” he said in a low whisper.
“I’m in love with Sirius, not you, Severus. Please understand that.”
“I can’t. I can’t help wondering that if things were different, we would have ended up together.”
Turning his head away from Remus, Severus sighed before tuning around and leaving the room without another word.
= =
Remus sighed as well when Snape left and was about to go back to tuning the violin in his hand when another voice spoke up.
“You … and Professor Snape … went out together,” said a very shocked and disgusted looking Harry.
“Yes, Harry, we did,” said Remus. “But only for a short time.”
“Why did you to stop?” The raven-haired boy asked as he walked up to the man he considered his second godfather. “Not that I’m complaining mind you. In fact I’m relieved that you did.”
“Well then you’ll be very pleased to know that it was because of your father that I stopped dating Professor Snape and started dating Sirius,” laughed Remus.
“You’re kidding?” Harry smiled in awe.
“Nope, it’s the truth. It was sort of a payback for something Sirius had done for James.”
“You mean getting my mum and him back together again after my grandfather tried to split them up?”
“How did you know about that?” Remus asked, looking surprised.
“Grandfather told me,” shrugged Harry.
“Well … yes … that was what Sirius had done for your father. And in return James gave your godfather enough courage to ask me out, even though I was technically seeing Professor Snape at the time.”
“That’s wicked.”
“Indeed,” Remus said in an amused smile.
“I guess that’s why Professor Snape doesn’t like me very much.”
“It’s a possibility,” Remus said, knowing full-well that it was a certainty. “I think you should be getting to your class now Harry, the bell is about to ring.”
= =
Harry had just managed to enter the class just as the bell rang. When he sat down he informed Draco that he was allowed to go to the amusement park with him. Harry didn’t, however, mention that he was also bringing his sister along with him. He was sure Sammy would spend the whole time with her friends and not bother him while he was with Draco.
As the class began Harry noticed, with little discomfort, that Professor Snape’s eyes seemed to be trying to burn a whole through Harry’s head. This Professor, without a doubt, wanted nothing but pain to come to Harry because of what his father had done. However, Harry wasn’t afraid. After all, what could Snape possibly do to him?
