When Draco awoke, it was to familiar surroundings. He recognized the feel of his black silk sheets and the slight bump in the mattress that he’d never bothered to fix. As the memories of what had transpired started to leak into his mind, he thought for a moment that maybe it had all just been some horrible dream. But that illusion was destroyed as Ron walked into his room carrying a tray of food.
When he saw the look of pain that crossed Draco’s face when he walked into the room, he stopped. He stood there in the doorway for a moment, unsure of what to say. He knew that nothing he could say would erase what happened, or help ease any of Draco’s pain. “I..brought you some food.”
Draco just closed his eyes, his hands clenching into fists under the sheets. It couldn’t have happened. He refused to accept it. Things like that didn’t happen to him. He couldn’t have been so weak and helpless to allow that to happen. But he knew it had. And it filled him with disgust causing bile to rise in his throat. He choked it down and turned onto his side. He didn’t want to look at Ron. He knew what had happened. He’d seen.
“I’m not hungry.”
Ron stood there silently for a moment. “Snape said that food would counteract the weakening effects of the drug.”
Draco sat up abruptly in bed. “You told Snape? YOU TOLD HIM!”
“I..no. Calm down. I just told him you’d been drugged. That’s all. I swear.”
Draco closed his eyes, trying to slow down his racing heart. “You will tell no one of this. Do you hear me? No one!” He wouldn’t be able to handle it if anyone else knew. It was bad enough with just Ron. It was bad enough that he himself knew, that he remembered. It was bad enough that it had happened at all. It was taking all of his strength just to deal with that fact.
“I want your oath, as a wizard, that you will tell no one.”
“Draco how could you think..”
“Your oath,” Draco snapped.
“My oath as a Wizard. I won’t tell anyone.”
“Good. Good.” Draco lay back down on his back, clutching the sheets at his chest. “I’d like you to leave now.”
Ron looked startled. “ But Draco you shouldn’t be alone.”
“I’ll be fine. If Snape said for me to eat, then I’ll eat. But I would like to be alone.”
“Draco...”
“Just...I need to be alone. Please.”
“Okay..I’ll...just owl me if you need anything.”
“I will.”
But he didn’t owl. Nor did he answer any of the many owls that Ron sent him over the next two weeks. His boss had told him that Draco had requested and been granted a sabbatical from work. He didn’t know how long he was going to be gone, and he’d been worried sick for the last two weeks.
He’d had no idea how much he’d come to rely on Draco’s company. His worry for Draco had uncovered a surprising depth of emotion toward him that Ron hadn’t known was there. After everything that had happened it seemed ridiculous to try and ignore his feelings.
“Harry, no one’s seen or heard from him in two weeks. What if something’s wrong? I’m going to go over there, I don’t care if he gets angry with me.”
Harry put a hand on his arm as he started for the door. “Ron I don’t think that’s such a good idea. You know how Malfoy can be sometimes. He probably just wants to be alone.”
Ron tore his arm away from Harry, snapping out angrily, “His name is Draco. And I don’t care what he wants. I’m going to go make sure he’s alright.”
“Well then, I’ll save you the trip,” Draco said from the doorway. “I’m fine. And back on duty as of today. I must say I’m touched by your concern.”
He turned to Harry. “Potter shouldn’t you be off playing quidditch. Last time I checked this was a building for Aurors and unless a lot has changed in the last two weeks, you’re not a Auror.”
“I came to see Ron,” he answered defensively.
Draco stared at him silently for a moment.. “I see. Yes of course you did.”
“Draco..you’re back,” Ron finally said.
Draco rolled his eyes. “I see that against all possible odds you’ve managed to become even more dense in the time I’ve been gone.”
Ron ignored the insult and walked towards him. “I was worried about you. You didn’t return any of my owls.”
“I wasn’t in the mood for correspondence.”
Ron placed his hands on Draco’s shoulders, looking into his eyes. “You’re my partner. You’re important to me and I needed to know that you were okay. I was worried.”
Before Draco could tell him to take his hands off of him, Ron crushed him in a hug and Draco was too shocked to speak for a moment.
After a moment Draco started to struggle, but Ron wasn’t letting him go this time. He wasn’t going to go down this path again. He finally knew what he wanted, and he was going to get it.
“Ron..what in the hell are you doing? Let go of me!”
Ron didn’t let go, rather he tightened his grip and said into Draco’s ear. “I’ve been going insane with worry. Don’t you know what you mean to me?”
Draco stopped struggling. “I..no. I really don’t. What do I mean to you?”
“Everything,” he whispered and brought his mouth around to meet Draco’s.
Both of them ignored Harry’s shocked gasp.
Draco, who had been thinking over the last few weeks that nothing could ever make him happy again, was reveling in how wrong he’d been. When Ron had whispered everything, he’d felt the suffocating weight that had been resting on his chest for the past few weeks lift. As their tongues met, and Ron’s hand slid lightly along Draco’s neck, they both wondered why they’d waited so long. Waited so long for this. Waited so long for..everything.
The End
AN: Thanks to everyone who reviewed. I know the ending seems kind of abrupt, but this story wasn’t supposed to be long and I’ve been trying to end it for sometime. I know it was kind of a weird little ficlet, but I hope you all enjoyed it. Peace love and understanding, Zookyyook
