Molly Weasley burst into Albus Dumbledore’s overly cluttered office. “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!”

“Molly, how nice to-“

“YOU SENT HIM LEMON DROPS AS A CONSULATION FOR HIS GODFATHER DYING?! ARE YOU MAD?!”

“Well, yes, I did but if you’d just allow me to explain, I’d-“

“EXPLAIN?!” she shrieked. “THERE’S NOTHING TO EXPLAIN! DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT DID TO HIM?!”

“Well, yes, I did but-“

“HE’S SITTING IN ST. MUNGO’S OFFERING LEMON DROPS TO ALICE LONGBOTTOM!”

“Well, yes...but...”

“AND YOU ARE SENDING HIM MORE AS WE SPEAK! MEANWHILE, MY DAUGHTER GOT KICKED OUT OF HARRY’S ROOM BECAUSE SHE ATTEMPTED TO SET HIM STRAIGHT AND...”

“She did WHAT?!?” Dumbledore all but roared.

Molly blinked, and stuttered. “Well, she...she was trying...to...to help and...”

Dumbledore shook his head, sighing. “Please, Molly, believe me when I say it saddens me to see Harry in this state, but that doesn’t mean we can just...”

“Of course we can just, Albus!” She frowned. “And we will, do I make myself clear?” She gave him a look she normally reserved for the twins. “You will send someone to snap him out of this, Albus!”

“Now, Molly...”

“You do it, Albus...” She threatened darkly, “or I will! Understood?” When he nodded, she smiled and turned to leave, saying pleasantly. “You have a week, Albus. One week.”

Professor Severus Snape had woken up to a lot of strange sites in his life but this one took the cake. He opened his eyes to find himself nose to nose with one of the ugliest creatures he’d ever seen-and he’d seen Voldemort.

The little creature on the bed had large, bat-like ears, bulging green eyes the size of tennis balls and the tip of its long, thin nose was actually touching the professor’s.

Professor Snape bolted up while back-handing the creature halfway across the room. “What the fuck are you?” he yelped.

“I is Dobby, sir.”

Severus blinked then snarled nastily, still angry at being woken up, “Yes, yes, but what are you and why the fuck are you in my rooms at...” he glanced at the clock next to his bed and became angrier still, roaring, “AT TWO IN THE BLOODY MORNING?!”

“I is a house elf, sir. Professor Dumbledore sent me, Sir. He is wanting to see Professor Snape in his office immediately, Sir.”

“Albus is a barmy old codger,” Severus growled.

Dobby giggled. “Dumbly is nice, Sir. He is a good wizard, Sir, not a codger.”

Severus sneered at the obnoxious elf. “I said he’s a barmy old codger and he is. Now leave!”

“Yes, Sir. Dobby is sorry, Sir,” the house elf squeaked as he backed towards the door and left.

Severus pulled himself out of bed, grumbling to himself. It was never a good thing when Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Order of Merlin, First Class, and Grand Sorcerer, Founder and Secret Keeper of the Order of the Phoenix, Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards, Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot summoned you to his office. Especially at two in the morning. It wasn’t good when you were a student, it wasn’t good when you were a teacher, it wasn’t good when you were an Order member and it was even worse when you were Professor Severus Snape.

“Ah, Severus! Please, please, come in. Lemon Drop?”

”No, thank you, Sir,” Severus growled through clenched teeth. “May I ask, sir why it is you sent a house elf to summon me to your office at this hour?”

“Well, you see, it’s about the Lemon Drops, Severus...”

“The Lemon Drops, Sir?” Severus’ left eye began to twitch. “You awakened me at two in the morning because of LEMON DROPS, Sir?”

“Yes, Severus. You see, Harry Potter-“

“Harry Potter, Sir?”

“Yes, I sent him Lemon Drops and-“

“Harry Potter and Lemon Drops...you dragged me out of bed for Potter and Lemon Drops?!” His eye began to twitch a little more uncontrollably as he added, “Sir?” through his tightly clenched teeth.

“For the last time, Severus, yes. And I wouldn’t be doing it of Molly Weasley hadn’t stopped by. That woman is scary.” Before Snape could interrupt him again, Dumbledore pushed on and explained the situation to the obviously irritated and confused Potion’s Master.

At the end of his explanation, Dumbledore added, “By the way, Severus, you may want to see Poppy about your eye...”

His eye was now twitching uncontrollably. “You want me to do what?”

“Snap Harry out of it,” Dumbledore said simply.

“No, you must have misunderstood my question, Sir. How exactly do you expect me to do this?”

“Oh, I’m sure you’ll think of something, Severus.” The obnoxious twinkle hadn’t left the old coot’s eye since Severus had entered his office nearly thirty minutes earlier.

“Something, Sir? That’s all you can give me to work with?”

“Yes, Severus. You’re an ex-Death Eater, a spy, a member of the Order of the Phoenix and the best Potion’s Master Hogwarts has ever had. As I said, you’ll think of something.”

An hour later, as Snape walked out of the Headmaster’s office, he muttered darkly to himself. “Damned old man. Butters me up, strokes my ego, pricks my damnable pride...then sends me off to help a Potter. Thirty years and the man never changes!”
