Chapter
6 Divide....
Dedicated to Alex.
A/N: Just don't hate me I know we
don't like her, but to break them up I need to pay her some attention, at least
she should be gone soon enough. Hey, if I get enough reviews I promise to
bodily hurt her
would that help?
A/N
2: I know some of
you must have noticed that I took "Getting Drunk" off. I'm trying to
keep the story linear now, so unless people really want it back I won't post it
until its time comes. + If any of you can think of good nicknames for Voldy,
please tell me!!!

The
letter Draco sent his father on that day had a picture of a green frog leaping
over a white picket fence into a lovely garden. The background has a slight
green shade to it.
Dear
Mother,
I
hope you are well and that this letter finds you in good health.
I
had a slight accident this week, as Potter's girlfriend found it fitting to use
me as a cushion to soften her unfortunate fall from the fourth floor. But
please, mother, don't worry about me, I'm doing just fine.
Though
I regret breaking my leg in the process, I can't say I'm too bothered by the
experience. I think you would be proud of me for implementing the values you
taught me, and behaving as a gentlemen should no matter whom the lady in need
might be.
After
the incident I found the lady to be most cultured and helpful, and I believe
the experience might have gained me a new friend. She is a pure blood, naturally,
and comes from a good family the la Pageries thus I'm inclined to overlook
her less than wise choice of companionship. I'm sure she would not have done
such a mistake should she have been in her own native country surrounded by
proper support systems. Here, I fear, she is out of her waters, and socially
lost. I hope I can be the one help her.
My
classes are proceeding as usual, and I can't say there is much more to be said
about them.
Respectfully,
your son, Draco.
Draco
was happy with the letter he made clear that he had a way into the enemy
territory, he informed his father of his desire to remove the French girl, but
made sure she wasn't to be touched by anyone but himself, for now. And he also
knew he would soon get all of the information available on the la Pageries.

Over
the next month no fights ensued between Potter and Malfoy. That new development
perplexed the school, the Gryffindor house, and most of all the Slytherin
house. Many things were different about their Draco now. While his tongue grew
sharper and his insults more painful than ever, that was as far as he went. For
some reason he was reluctant to use Crabe and Goyle to inflict physical punishments on offending houses.
This new disturbing tendency started early in the year, but reached its peak
after the 'fall incident'. Since then not one sniveling mudblood
of a student had gotten a broken bone courtesy of the Malfoy team. Not one
sickeningly frightful Hufflepuff was taken to the Quiditch pitch to help his boys develop their beaters'
skills. Things were not as they were supposed to be.
Draco
and Josie were had a friendly banter going between them whenever they met.
This, understandably annoyed the rest of the Gryffindors, but there was nothing
they could do about it. And many noticed that Malfoy's behavior towards
Gryffindors was increasingly strange one minute he would throw insults like
nobody's business, the other he would pass them by without a word, going as far
as to ignore the slights thrown at him. The whole of Gryffindor house didn't
know how to account for the Ferret's behavior.
The
only one consistently exempt from Malfoy's rudeness was Josie and her friends.
Instead of being happy about the truce, Harry was beginning to wander if the Ferret
was trying to steal his girlfriend. He was unfamiliar with the pangs of jealousy
and found them to be an unpleasant experience. His temper, which lay mostly
dormant from the beginning of the year thanks to Josie
was now rearing its ugly head again thanks to Josie and Malfoy. He already
had a fight with his girlfriend, and he had a nagging fear that it wasn't going
to be the last one. The blessed days before Josie's fall now seemed a distant
memory.
Right
now Harry was busy trying to return things to the way they used to be, and he was
counting on Josie's birthday, which was to come in a week, to help him finally smooth
things over.
He
made an order, via owl, to a jeweler's store, asking for a gold pendant with
their initials inlaid in tiny azure gems. From the picture sample the jeweler
sent back it was a very beautiful necklace, and he imagined how it would look
with Josie's dark blue eyes and blond hair. The trinket wasn't very expensive,
but he was afraid of buying something too flamboyant, lest she think he was
trying to show off, or to placate her with money.

The
same weak, Draco received a short letter from his mother, the content of which
was less important than the paintings along its sides. There was a tea party in
a rose garden attended by all sorts of domesticated animals. A cat in the corner
of the picture was finishing off what looked like a birthday cake. Draco
counted the animals and there were 9 in all.
Two
days later the young Malfoy sent an owl to his mother's favorite clothing shop,
and another one to the jewelers.

The
happy day had finally arrived: It was November the 9th and it was
Josephine's birthday.
Harry
was in the common room, nervous and excited at the same time. Ron was watching
him with half amusement and half horror at what could become of a man once he
was in a relationship. Harry had woken up a half hour ago and went down to the
common room so that he could be ready and waiting when his girlfriend came down
from the girls' dorm. The lover boy, of course, had to drag the sleepily
protesting read head for 'moral support'.
"Harry,
mate, you need to relax a little. I'm sure she'll like the gift. How can she
not?"
"She's
been angry with me for the last two weeks, that's how!"
"Come
on, I think you're loosing your marbles a little. Everybody likes gifts, girls
especially. And you'll work that kink out soon she'll see she was wrong to be
angry with you over Malfoy, of all people."
"You
think?" The dark haired turned to his friend looking hopeful and insecure.
"God! What a girl can do to a bloke is just scary! Relax!"
By now Ron was quietly dreading what his life would be when he finally got
together with Hermione. Thankfully, he was already used to her nagging and she
probably wouldn't give him much cause for jealousy.
"You're
right, you're right."
"Good."
A few
minutes later the long awaited birthday girl finally descended the stairs.
"Harry!"
She smiled broadly, "You've been waiting for me?"
"Yes.
I wanted to be the first to give you your present and wish you a happy
birthday." His love then jumped the last two stairs and hugged him. "Happy birthday, Josie."
She
loosened her arms a bit and looked up into his eyes, "So, what did you get
me?"
"This."
He took a small box from the table next to them. "Hope you like it."
The
girl tore into the package with abandon and took out the necklace. "I love
it!" With that she put it on.
All
troubles forgotten the friends proceeded with congratulations and with getting
ready for the school day.

At
breakfast Josie received a few more presents from her father and her old
friends. All were lovely, but none could compare to the one the only unsigned
one: It was a big, light, shawl, with velvet incrustations creating the most
beautiful image of pale-gold stars, on a deep green background, with a few small
scorpions embroidered in the corners. Included with the shawl was a delicate gold scorpion broach with green emeralds, and
a gold-rimmed parchment describing the characteristics of her sign. The present
showed much consideration, but the coloring unpleasantly reminded Harry of
Slytherin colors.
Once
Josie finished fawning over the gift he took it to look for clues on the
recipient. Upon reading the parchment, he discovered that his own gift had the
flaw of being the wrong color for Josie sky blue was apparently an
unfavorable color to scorpions.
If
that wasn't enough, he noticed that his gift kept falling under Josie's robe
neckline and so it couldn't really be seen. The pendant that was supposed to
show the world that they were together was as good as non-existent. At least
the shawl wasn't going to be seen much either where could she wear it in
school?
Just
as he tried to concentrate on this comforting thought he noticed that Malfoy
was looking their way, and the comfort he was clinging to disappeared.
The
next evening, when his girlfriend brought the shawl to the common room and
snuggled in it as she was reading her History of Magic, Harry Potter snapped.
That day saw the biggest and most vocal fight between the couple, and the after
shocks were bound to last for a while.
