Rowling owns Harry and his wonderful world, but Marvin, the Krivdals,
and the plot are all mine and if you touch them I’ll sic Severus on you!
Chapter 6: Welcome Back, Marvin!
Marvin stumbled out of the floo in the headmaster’s office and was greeted by the
melodic trill of Fawkes. Dumbledore was already seated behind his desk
and Severus and Harry were looking anxious.
Dumbledore was smiling at them.
“Well, why don’t you two show Marvin to his new rooms and then bring him
out to the grounds? Hagrid
is looking forward to meeting our new Muggle Studies
teacher.
Marvin smiled. He’d been looking forward to meeting Hagrid but he spent a good deal of time away from Hogwarts
these days visiting Olympe Maxime
in France. He was also eager to see the rooms he would
be staying in. Severus led the way while
Harry walked beside him with an arm flung around his shoulder. They walked down into the dungeons and Marvin
recognized that they were near Severus’ own quarters. It would be nice to be so close to his
adopted brother and Harry would only be a floo
away. They came to a spot in the wall
where a sconce let off an eerie yellow light.
When Marvin looked closer he saw that the sconce was decorated with a tiny
snake and a lion.
Severus stepped up to the sconce
and looked back at him. “You touch the
snake and lion emblem and say Pons Asinorum to open the door.”
Harry was looking at Severus oddly
and Marvin glared. “What exactly does that
mean? It doesn’t sound like any spell
I’ve heard any of you use.”
Severus smirked. “I’m sure that with your admirable resources
you’ll be able to learn the meaning before the start of term. If not, you can always ask Miss Granger when
she returns for the wedding.”
“Its something insulting isn’t it,” Marvin
asked with a half smile. “Something to
get back at me for all the pranks we pulled last summer.”
Severus snorted. “Nonsense, now why don’t we step inside and
get your things settled. Hagrid is waiting for you.”
Marvin shrugged and walked through
the narrow tunnel that had appeared when Severus uttered the password. He came to a sturdy looking, wooden door and
pushed it open. A small sitting room
greeted him, decorated with a couch and cushy armchair in front of the fire and
a small table and chairs off to the side.
There were several shelves positioned throughout the two sections of the
room, each loaded with useful books on different subjects regarding the magical
world. There were two more doors
opposite the main one they had entered through.
The one on his left ended up leading to a spacious bathroom with a large
tub and shower combination, the basics of a toilet and sink, and a rack stacked
with fluffy towels. There was also a
large bin for dirty laundry.
Back outside the bathroom and
through the right hand door, Marvin found his bedroom. Inside was a large four poster covered with a
dark forest green duvet and curtains.
There was a darkly stained dresser off against the wall on the left hand
side of the room and Marvin put his suitcases in front of it. He took a third suitcase from Severus when
the wizard entered the room and opened it up to hang his robes in the closet.
Severus smirked and waved his
wand. Within moments all three suitcases
were unpacked as well as the boxes that had been flooed
into the sitting room. When he walked
back out into the siting room again he saw little
traces of himself every where. A brightly colored, knitted afghan that Mrs. Weasley
had made for him for Christmas.
Picture frames adorned the walls with different sized snapshots of him
and Severus, him and Harry, and a photo of his mother and father from before he
was born. The photo album that Harry had
given him was sitting on the coffee table in front of the couch along with the remembral that Ginger gave to him for Christmas and a stack
of papers that turned out to be the Muggle Studies
lesson plans from the past decade.
Marivn
looked over at Severus. “Where will
Ginger and Justin be staying until I’m let off my leash?”
Harry stepped up to answer the
question. “They’re going to take turns
sleeping on the couch and flooing to Justin’s flat to
stay with their mother and Wendy.”
Marvin nodded. “They mentioned something about a family get
together at some point. We’ll have to
find them replacements for that day.”
Just then Justin and Ginger
marched into the room, each carrying a small box loaded with what Marvin
recognized as various dark detectors.
Justin looked at him and laughed.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Marv! We want you to come with us. We talked the whole family into coming to England
so that we can make a big vacation of it.
Our Cousin Danny is looking forward to meeting you.”
Marvin was quite sure that he didn’t
like the suggestive glint in Justin’s eye.
He was going to have to figure out if Danny was a witch or a wizard,
though he was pretty sure Justin wasn’t dumb enough to try and set him up with
a man. He looked over at Ginger, who was
looking stern as usual, and then sneaked a peek at Severus. The dour wizard was surreptisiously
looking at the female auror. His plan was practically completing itself,
but he knew better tan to think that Severus would make a move without a bit of
a push.
“Well,” Marvin said loudly and offering his
‘big brother’ a cheeky grin. “I suppose
we should get going. Ginger, Justin…are you coming with us?”
Both aurors
shook their heads. Ginger looked up from
digging in her box. “We need to get this
stuff set up. You’ll be okay with Harry
and Professor Snape I’m sure.”
Marvin sighed. Okay, so Ginger would need a push too. All in good time though. All in good time. “Well, we’ll be outside then when you’re
done.”
They nodded and Marvin headed out
of his rooms with Severus and Harry close behind him. Severus moved up in step with him. “Did you find your rooms adequate?”
“More than adequate,” marvin said with a smile. “They’re amazing.”
The older man looked
doubtful. “I’m glad. If you need anything changed or if you find
that you’d rather be in another location just let Albus
know.”
Marvin looked at Severus long and
hard for a moment. “You thought that I
was going to be upset about being in the dungeons….didn’t you?”
Severus sighed. “Not many people enjoy going to class down
here, let alone living. There are no
windows in any of the dungeon quarters and you do not seem like a person who
likes to lack sunshine.”
“I like the idea of being close to you,”
Marvin said as they neared the Hogwarts main doors. “You were all alone down there and now you’re
not. It will be fun!”
Severus gave him a dubious
look. “Fun? Pray tell how will it be fun?”
Marvin grinned. “You’ll see.”
They walked out into the bright
sunshine and off towards Hagrid’s hut. Marvin spotted Fang and ran ahead to greet
the boar hound. As he neared the dog,
Fang turned and dashed off behind the hut.
Marvin frowned and hurried after him, wondering if something was wrong
or if the dog was just being shy. As he
came around to the back of the hut, Marvin was assaulted by a dozen or more
shouts of “Surprise!” All the Weasleys were there and Remus and Tonks. Draco, Lucius, and Narcissa were standing together and smiling. Sirius had also made his way out there along
with Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall.
The Weasley
twins stepped forward with devilish smiles on their faces. Fred reached out and patted him on the
shoulder. “Hello there…”
“…Marvin!
We’re awfully glad….”
“…to have you back. Do you…”
“…think you’ll be…”
“…needing any of…”
“…out help…”
“…this time?”
“Er…” Marvin eyed the pair warily. Something was up. “I’m sure that Harry and I will be dropping
you a line.”
“What’s that,” George asked with a smile as he
threw his arm around his shoulder.
Marvin was trapped.
“Um…its just a muggle expression.
It means we’ll let you know.”
Marvin tried to inch away from George, but the twin held him tight.
“Did Ron tell you about the little mission we
had over the summer,” Fred asked casually.
Marvin swallowed hard. “No…no he
didn’t. What were you two up to?”
George snickered. “We thought it would be interesting to know
how Professor Snape managed to turn ickle Ronnikins into a girl last
summer.”
Marvin felt a cold sense of dread
creep into his stomach. He looked over
at Severus, Harry, and Ron for help, but the trio only smirked back at
him. Fred stood in front of him then. “The thing is, we haven’t tried it yet, but
we’re pretty sure we have it figured out.”
George released him. He considered running, but not fast
enough. Fred waved his wand and quietly
uttered an incantation. Marvin squeezed
his eyes shut. He would have liked to
have done something brave and escaped, but, unfortunately, there were no platters
nearby. He felt his body shrink and
curve. He wanted to scream at the twins,
but was afraid to hear his own altered voice.
However, it wasn’t necessary.
Someone else screamed for him.
“What the hell did you two do to him?” Apparently, Ginger and Justin had decided to
join them after all. Marvin opened his
eyes (now equipped with long, thick lashes) and smirked happily at the two
twins who now looked quite terrified.
