Chapter 6: Meanwhile back at the ranch.
“My love, there is a Minerva McGonagall here to see you.” Derek watched Ruby come out of the trance she had been in. She had another couple in a book but for some reason she was having to keep a close eye on this pair. She was getting more and more frustrated with this couple and he was starting to worry about her.
“Should have known she would come here. I bet you she hasn’t even bothered to read what is happening to them.” Ruby stood up from her chair and accepted Derek’s arm. “No, she had to storm over here with a stick up her arse. She hasn’t changed since we went to school.”
“Well, she is definitely ticked off,” he informed her, stopping in front of the drawing room. “This is about the two you’re working with right now, isn’t it?”
“Yes, it is about those stubborn idiots in the book.” Ruby schooled her features into a mask of perfect calm as her mother had taught her. She projected calm to radiate out from her, a trick her mother had taught her to use when dealing with people who didn’t like the matches she made. She nodded to Derek and he opened the door and let her lead as was customary. “Minerva, how lovely to see you again. Would you like some tea?”
“No, Matchmaker,” Minerva spat out the title as if it were foul-tasting. She had never liked their family or the unusual powers the females seemed to have. “I have come here to discuses the situation your meddling has caused.”
“Situation? My dear Minerva, I have no idea what you are talking about,” Ruby replied sweetly.
“This is what I’m talking about!” Minerva violently swung the book around. Ruby’s eyes went wide and she grabbed the book out of the old woman’s hand.
“You must be careful with the book!” She checked the book over to make sure it was not damaged. “The spells are delicately woven through out the book. Any damage to it could hurt the spells.”
“So if I destroy the book, they will be released?” Minerva asked with a glint in her eyes.
“No, it would trap them in the alternate reality forever.” Ruby enjoyed the look of horror that washed over McGonagall’s face. “You’re just going to have to let them be for now. As soon as they do what they need to do to be free, they will return.”
“What, pray tell, do they have to do to be free?” The old woman said looking at her through narrowed eyes.
“Just admit that they love each other and get married.” Ruby informed her.
“Fall in love!” Minerva leapt to her feet, causing Derek to take a protective step forward.
“Minerva, they are already in love. Now they have to admit it; not only to themselves but also to each other. Since they are more stubborn then any other couple I’ve ever worked with and I don’t want everything I’ve done to be undone, their marriage will be legally binding.” Ruby said, sipping her tea like this was the most natural conversation in the world.
“You must be mistaken!” Minerva looked like she had just eaten one of Hagrid’s cakes.
“I am not, Minerva. I understand your concern for your student and former Potions Master. I assure you that he would not have followed her into the book if they had not been soul mates. That is what the book is designed to do. Whoever activates it has their soul mate pulled in as well. No matter who or where they are.” Ruby was starting to be tired and looked at Derek for support.
“Soul mates! He is a murderer!” Minerva exclaimed.
That was all Ruby could handle. She stood up and handed the book back to Minerva. “I suggest you read the book before you say anything else. Derek will show you out.” With a swirl of her robes, she walked out of the drawing room and headed back to her suites.

It had been a shock when Molly had stormed into her office waving a book around. Thankfully, the board of governors had just left. In all of the years of knowing Molly Weasley, she had never seen her so angry and frankly it was scary.
“Hermione has been kidnapped by that sick, perverted, murdering Slytherin!” She shouted, throwing the book on the desk. Minerva had calmly read the first page of the book and told Molly to go home and take care of the rest of the children. She had reminded the matriarch of the Weasley family what Ron and Harry were liable to do without her there to control them.
The meeting with Ruby didn’t go as planned. Instead of releasing Hermione like she should have, she told Minerva to read the book. Therefore, she was back in her office staring at the book on her desk as if it was a snake ready to strike.
She sighed heavily as she forced herself to read the annoying rag sheet posing as a book in front of her. Maybe there would be clues inside on how to get Hermione out of there. After reading chapter five, her lips had disappeared into a tight scowl as she marked her place and set the book down. Her wand came to her hand and after several complicated wrist movements a beam of light shot out and left a path for her to follow to the person she was now stalking. “I’ll get you, you meddling old fool, and your half giant too.”

Harry paced in the study of the Burrow. He and Ron were back to not being told anything. Everything he had gained the last year with Dumbledore had been lost upon his death. The Order had once again shut him out because in their eyes, he was just a kid. Even though it concerned one of his best friends, the book had been confiscated and they were told to let ‘the grown ups’ handle it.
Ginny was sitting on the sofa still sniffling from the cry she had. She was not taking Hermione’s disappearance well; then again, neither was Ron. Thankfully, Ginny had been able to repair the hole in the wall he had punched before Mrs. Weasley had returned.
“’It’s your destiny to destroy the world’s darkest wizard, Harry, but we’re not going to tell you anything.’” Harry said mockingly as he sat down next to Ginny and hid his face in his hands. When he felt her hands rubbing his back trying to comfort him, he gave into the temptation and pulled her into his lap to bury his face in her hair. Her hands wrapped around his waist and she took comfort in him as well.
“I’ll use an Unforgivable on who ever is behind this,” Ron snapped as he took over pacing where Harry left off.
“I’m sure Hermione is fine,” Ginny said softly. She knew Hermione was the glue that held the boys together; their voice of reason, and their grounding point. Neither was taking this very well; she knew she needed to reassure them. “This is Hermione we are talking about. She can out think and out hex anyone we know.”
“Yeah, we know, Ginny,” Harry’s voice was slightly muffled by her hair.
“We just hate not being able to do something,” Ron said, staring holes into the floor. “We’re supposed to be bloody heroes!”
