Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
MNK: This chapter has a little more humor in it than the last did...okay, it had NO humor, so this one has a LOT more. Anyway, in this chapter, Sirius makes his entrance into this story, and Iris loses her temper. We also find out that Sapphire has a fondness for peppermint taffy. (So does Linka.)
She doesn’t, however, have the rights to HP and etc. Neither do I. ‘Nuff said.
Chapter 5: Sirius Gets Serious
The six friends finally made it to Hogsmeade, and had just entered the Three Broomsticks, when Harry, Hermione, and Ron recognized the tall, burly black-haired man at the bar, staring dejectedly into a tankard of beer. “Sirius?” Harry asked in shock. The man’s long, wild black hair had grown longer and more wild, but those pain-filled blue eyes gave him away as he turned to see who’d called him.
“Oh, hey Kids.” he smiled sadly, not noticing Sapphire, who was standing in the shadows. “How are you?”
“Fine...” Harry answered. “But what about YOU? You look like someone just DIED!” Sirius’ deep blue eyes filled with pain, as he took another swig of his beer.
“It’s a long story, Harry.” he answered hoarsely.
“Well come sit with us and you can explain it.” Hermione all but ordered, dragging him off the barstool and over to a table in the corner. He sat down beside Harry and Hermione, while Sapphire went up to the front to order five Butterbeers, a water, and some coffee. Though out of earshot for a human, she could easily hear every word they said, despite the two noisy men at the bar who’d clearly had too much.
“It all started in my sixth year.” Sirius began softly. “I fell in love with a young woman who had come to visit the castle around January, but I had competition. See, that slimy ole’ git Snape fell for her, too. When school was let out, they left, but they came back the next term. Not long into the term, she started acting all depressed and stuff, and I found out on this very day nineteen years ago, that she’d been having a relationship with Snape.”
“Why didn’t you ask her out first?” Sirius blushed.
“I did.” he muttered. “For some odd reason, I was stupid enough to require it to be a ‘No-holds’ relationship.” Sapphire gasped in shock, then slapped a hand over her mouth. “In other words, neither of us were chained down.” Sirius buried his face in his hands, leaning on the table. “God, I was SUCH a MORON!” Sapphire took this moment to quickly pass out the drinks, and slip back into the shadows before he saw her. “Nineteen years ago this day, I found her in the hall late at night, and we went to her room. For once, though, we didn’t stay up late talking and enjoying one another’s company. Instead, she told me that she’d been having a relationship with him, too. She was so MISERABLE! She probably cried an ocean before she fell asleep, all because she had hurt me.”
“And what did you do?” Sapphire asked sarcastically, glaring at him as she stepped from the shadowy corner. “You broke her heart by telling her that you’d have NO MORE TO DO WITH HER!” she growled. Upon noticing that the other customers were staring, she left the bar and beckoned him to follow her. Sirius laid a bill on the table, and followed her outside. Once a good distance from the bar, Sapphire turned to him again. “You know what happened that night?” she asked quietly. “She and Peridot packed up and they LEFT! Peridot didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye to Remus, because they left before dawn. She got in worse and worse shape, even after they returned to Anirania. When she got there, the men began chasing her again, but she just stayed locked up in her rooms, not eating, not sleeping, not doing ANYTHING but MOURN!” Sapphire snarled, her tail swishing violently. “One day when Peridot brought Iris her dinner, she found her passed out on the floor. When we finally managed to wake her, all she would say were TWO THINGS:” She narrowed her eyes even further. “If only I could’ve seen my boys again. BUT...more often she said one word...SIRIUS!” Sirius felt as though someone had shot him. “She may have had feelings for Severus, but she LOVED YOU!” She growled again. “Saijins and Salzains both have a curse upon them. If they are violently separated from their soul mates, such as after a fight or death, they CAN DIE of HEARTBREAK!” Sapphire lowered her voice, her deep navy eyes burning with rage. “She nearly DIED in her sister’s arms, Sirius Black. Azalea has YET to recover from THAT!” She was about to yell at him again, when she noticed the tears welling up in his eyes. He sank down on the bench outside the pub, as though all his bones had melted into glue. “You have a choice to make, Sirius Black.” Sapphire said quietly. “One I do NOT envy you. Will you let her spend the rest of her life alone, pining for a man she cannot have? Or will you win her back?” There was silence for a moment. “Your choice.” she repeated, then headed down the road.
“Sapphire?” Harry called after her. “Aren’t you coming to Honeydukes with us?” She stopped in her tracks, and answered,
“I’m not sure that’s a good idea, Koi.”
“Can we bring you something?”
“A handful of peppermint taffy would be nice. Thanks. I’ll see you at the castle.” With that, she continued on her trek back.
“Who was she?” Sirius asked half-heartedly, still staring at the ground.
“Peridot’s younger sister.” Harry answered. “Sapphire. She’s also my girlfriend, now.” Sirius smiled slightly.
“You picked a good one, Harry.”
“You’re saying that AFTER she bites you head off, chews it up, spits it out and steps on it?” Ron asked in shock. “What are you, an emotional masochist?”
“She wasn’t doing anything that wasn’t necessary, Ron.” Sirius smiled sadly. “Thanks to her, I have a second chance...IF she’ll take me back.”
“IF?” Ron asked. “What in bloody ‘Ell do you mean ‘IF?!’ When she first arrived at Hogwarts, I heard her singing a really depressing song, begging ‘Mother Lica’ (Whoever the ‘Ell THAT is) to bring you back to her! When I asked who she was singing about, she broke down crying and said it was YOU! Of COURSE she’ll take you back!”
“Not necessarily, Ron.” Hermione warned. “She’s half Saijin, Half Salzain. Saijins are well known in their quadrant of the universe as having HORRIBLE tempers, and Salzains are far more emotional than humans, so she may very well kill him.”
“And I’d deserve it, too.” Sirius added glumly, getting to his feet, and walking down toward the school. The others didn’t follow.

Sirius followed Harry in silence, terrified as he climbed the stairs to Iris’ room. Harry didn’t say a word; he just nodded, and continued up the stairs to Sapphire’s room. Sirius finally got up the nerve and gently knocked at the door. A muffled ‘come in’ was heard, and he cautiously entered the room. Iris lay on her bed, crying into her pillow. He didn’t say a word. “Who are you and what do you want?” She didn’t recognize his chi signature? Oh yeah. She was still learning to recognize them when she left Hogwarts.
“Iris...” he murmured, combing his fingers through her hair. Her breath hitched loudly and she spun around to a sitting position.
“Sirius!” she squeaked, her eyes full of shock. He could see the rage building in her eyes and he backed away as she narrowed them and let loose a feral growl. “You...You...BASTARD!” she roared, drawing back her arm to slap him. Fortunately, he was able to apparate out of the room and down to the grounds where he started running the second his feet hit the ground. Iris leapt from her high window and landed softly on the ground in front of him. “Going somewhere?” she snarled. “I...think...NOT!” He spun on his heel and began running in the other direction, towards the front of the castle. She gave chase.”
“SHE’S GONNA KILL ME!” he screamed, trying to keep ahead of her. Suddenly, she appeared before him and he ran right smack into her.
“Damn right I’m gonna kill you!” she growled, holding her former lover by the front of his black plaid shirt. “Why did you come back?!”
“I was in Hogsmeade...Harry and his girlfriend Sapphire found me and told me what happened. I came back...” she released him, smelling the quantity of alcohol on his breath. He fell to the ground. “...to apologize.” He let out a pained sigh. “I shouldn’t have fought WITH you, Iris.” he said softly. “I should’ve fought FOR you. By the time I realized this, you had left, going God knows where, never to return.”
“And that bothered you because...” she asked, tilting her head to the right in confusion.
“I love you, Iris.” he answered, looking up at her pathetically. “I always have and I always will.” He sighed, staring at the grass. “If you want to kill me, just do it. I’d rather die at your hand knowing that I tried to make amends, than die all alone wondering what might have been.” She knelt beside him, pulling him close, crying softly into his neck.
“I love you too, Sirius.” she whimpered as he pulled her into his lap, embracing her tightly. “I’ve missed you so...Severus asked me to take him back when he found out that I was here, but...I...I just couldn’t. He wasn’t you.” Sirius felt a heavy warmth in his heart, and buried his face in her hair again, inhaling her heavenly scent.
“Well, everything’s alright now, Iris.” he said huskily, rubbing her back. “Everything’s going to be just fine. I’ve been given a second chance at your Love, and I’m NOT going to blow it this time.” Iris smiled through her tears. Despite his ‘Bad Boy’ appearance, Sirius really was a romantic at heart. He had always known just how to make her feel better, and he was so gifted with words. But one thing she remembered above all, as he apparated them back to her tower room, was that unless he was angry, he NEVER said ANYTHING he didn’t mean. His temper got a hold on him sometimes, but other than that, he’d always been honest with her. He’d told her only moments before, that he loved her...and she could tell, as he lay her on her bed and curled up beside her...he MEANT it. Soon, just like old times, they’d drifted off to sleep in one another’s arms.
