I own nothing but this sordid little tale. All characters belong to J.K. Rowling. I am not making any money by writing it. I must be insane.

Jackie: No, it wasn’t Snape that punched her. He wasn’t born yet. That scene took part in the still early days of Voldermorts rise to power, around 1958, and it would be another year before Snape was born. I know, it’s all pretty confusing with the time jumps. I’m struggling myself, believe me. LOL
Chapter 6
This was the moment he’d been waiting for. The pensive had provided him with enough information to get a good idea as to when she would reappear. He’d only been out by two days, and now she was here. He could grab her, remove the time turner from around her neck and use the one Albus gave him to take them both to the present.
As with all best laid plans, it was almost not to be.
The building might have been deserted, but the area was not. No sooner had she dropped to the grassy earth, weak from hunger and neglect, then he managed to reach her side and act the concerned citizen. He was Polyjuice to look like a muggle that died several years ago, which was just as well since suddenly they were surrounded by several skull masked, red caped Death Eaters. The abandoned building was apparently none other than the dwelling once used by the old gardener, Frank Bryce. Now Voldemort occupied the Riddle mansion and the presence of Severus and Kathy had disturbed the protective ward, alerting the Dark Lord to intruders.
Severus pulled a robe from his satchel and covered her with it, and had just lifted Kathy, discretely removing the time turner from her neck and pocketing it when the Death Eaters appeared.
He had no time to think, he needed to act, and act quickly.
His wand was tucked into the inside pocket of his muggle jacket and he had only one hand free. He pulled at his own time turner and spun the disc quickly, a brief flash of red light barely missing his head as they spun forward in time.

1995
As soon as he was certain they were alone, he tightened his grip on the half unconscious woman in his arms and disapperated to the boundaries of Hogwarts.
He half laid, half dropped her on the ground, flopping beside her and leaning forward to catch his breath. His head was spinning and he felt as weak as a kitten.
“Ello there, can I ‘elp ye?”
Severus had never been so glad to see the grounds keeper as he was at this moment. “I will be Hagrid if you would be kind enough to lower the wards and let us in, it‘s me, Severus, I find myself rather more fatigued than usual.”
Hagrid’s beetle black eyes took in the dishevelled state of the strange man in front of him, he might not look like the Professor, but the voice was unmistakable even to him. Then noticed a young woman slumped beside him.
“Right you are Professor.” Hagrid quickly lowered the wards and reached out a hand to Severus.
“I can manage thank you Hagrid, though if you wouldn’t mind.” He indicated the cloak wrapped woman and Hagrid bent to retrieve her, lifting her as easy as one would lift a small child.
“She’s ’urt, shall I take her straight to the hospital wing?”
Severus noticed that Hagrid did not appear to be affected by the woman. “No, I would prefer you take her to your cabin for now. I will inform the Headmaster of our arrival and meet you there.”
Exhausted, Severus made his way to the castle and mounted the steps into the main entrance, he was glad to find Albus waiting for him just inside the large double doors. Together they made their way to Hagrid’s hut.
When they arrived, Kathy was propped against a mound of pillows on an overly large bed, Fang at her side as she stoke his head gently. Already she seemed to be gaining strength as the large boarhound started to droop beside her.
Albus raised his wand and lifted the dog away to its own bed.
Kathy watched warily as the whiskery giant went about his business, making tea and retrieving a tin from the pantry. When she saw Severus and Albus she did her best to squash into the corner of the bed, pulling the cloak tight about her, eyes wide with fear and darting from one to the other.
As Severus dropped into a chair at the table and began rummaging in his satchel, Albus approached her, stopping far enough away that he wasn’t too much of a threat to her.
“You have no need to fear us Mrs Ripley, we mean you no harm.”
Kathy stayed silent, still watching, waiting. Her head snapped round at the sound of a clink and she watched as the tall sandy haired man opened a small bottle and drank the contents. He seemed to perk up slightly.
Her look of wary curiosity turned to one of horror as the mans face began to bubble and change shape, his hair shortened and grew dark, the light blue eyes becoming black.
She whimpered and Fang raised a tired head. The dog trudged wearily back to her side, but she paid him no mind as the man at the table stared in her direction.
“Oh my God. Who are you people? What is this place? Please, let me go, I wont tell anyone what I’ve seen. I’m not even sure what I’ve seen.” She pleaded.
Severus raised an eyebrow at the Headmaster. There was no way he was going to offer an explanation for this. It was the old man’s idea, let him justify everything.
“All will be explained in due time Mrs Ripley, for now I ask only that you trust us.”
“Trust you? Why the hell should I trust you? Any of you? Do you know what happened to me, my family? Oh Gods, my babies, they murdered my babies. And David, they… they… Why? I don’t understand.”
Kathy broke down into racking, heart wrenching sobs as the enormity of the last… days? weeks? came flooding back. “Men, men in horrible, horrible masks. They… then they took me somewhere and… and… then he…” She pointed at Severus. “the other he, before he… changed, then they came again, in those masks, and then we were here and I don’t know what the fuck is going on but I want to go home.”
“Severus, would you happen to have a calming draught in that bag of yours?” Albus asked quietly.
Severus passed the clear phial to the Headmaster. “If you can persuade her to trust you enough to take it, go ahead. I‘ve done my part.” He hissed in reply.
Hagrid moved to stand between the bed and the Headmaster, holding a cup of tea and blocking the woman‘s view. He winked at the old wizard, who emptied the contents into the cup.
“Ere ye are lass, don’ pay them no mind. A good cuppa’s what yer need. Allus works fer me.”
Kathy looked up at the massive bulk in front of her, the multitude of hair and whiskers, the small, beetle black eyes that seemed more friendly and sincere than any she’d ever seen. “Thank you.” She said softly, taking the cup with trembling hands.
Small amounts of tea sloshed over the rim of the cup until she managed to gain a small amount of control over herself and drink. It wasn’t like the weak tea she normally drank, though right now she’d have drunk anything so long as it was wet. She stared into the steaming liquid, trying hard not to think about what was happening.
“Yer hungry lass?”
Kathy jumped, startled at being addressed again. “Err, yeah, I haven’t eaten in… I don’t know when I last ate to be honest.”
“Ah, thank you Hagrid, but I believe it is time to take Mrs Ripley up to the school. I am sure the house elves will be glad to provide her with a late supper. Besides, I think Fang needs your attention right now.
“Oh, right Headmaster, yer probably right.” He turned back to Kathy. “Well, its bin nice talkin to ye Mrs Ripley. Any time yer feel like a cuppa tea and a chat, me doors allus open.”
“Thanks, but can’t I stay here for now? I don’t want to go with them.” Kathy grabbed Hagrid’s hand, unconsciously drawing energy from him and feeling stronger by the second.
Hagrid didn‘t even seem to notice. “Ye’ll be fine lass, they won’ urt ye. Good men, Albus Dumbledore and Professor Snape. Trust ‘em both with me life I would.” He told her, patting her hand as gently as he could.
Severus and Albus eyed each other as the woman’s skin took on a more healthy glow. The bruising and scratches that until now marred her face, arms and legs, fading before their eyes.
It was fortunate that Hagrid’s lineage as a half Giant meant he was strong enough that he was not adversely affected by her.
