  • A/N: I am so sorry this has taken me so long to get out. I won’t make any excuse about schoolwork or anything like that, because if you’d noticed, I wrote a story on my own. That was taking up my mind, honestly. But now that’s it’s finished, I’ll focus on this one again. And Graballz, Aiden is a Slytherin, not a Hufflepuff. Sorry if that wasn’t clear for you! And I really have no idea where the hell Astoria Greengrass came from either, she just kind of appeared.

    Rose, Al, and Scorpius stood in front of Severus’ Head portrait. “Hello, Sir,” Rose spoke first. “Do you know that your ghost has been teaching the three of us?” She asked.

    “I have, have I? Well, why is that?”

    “We were hoping you would tell us. All your spirit says is that he’s trying to make up for past mistakes. What mistakes do you mean?” Scorpius asked.

    The portrait of their teacher sighed. “I tried to protect both of your fathers and failed. Not completely, mind you as they are both still alive last I knew, but I didn’t protect them from as much as I could have,” The portrait answered.

    “Thank you, Professor, for telling us,” Albus smiled.

    “It’s not like you gave me a choice. You know the Head’s portraits can’t lie,” Their teacher’s portrait shook his head at them.

    “That’s why we came to you,” Rose grinned. “It was intentional.”

    “Go on then, back to your school work,” The portrait shooed them out of the office. Together, the three of them descended the stairs.

    “Well, that was useful, I guess,” Scorpius shrugged.

    “Why is he still holding on to all that, I wonder? I mean, that was a long time ago, especially for a dead person,” Rose wondered aloud.

    “What was a long time ago for the dead?”

    “Hi Blaise,” Albus smiled at Professor Blaise Zabini, Potions Master and Head of Slytherin House. He also happened to be Scorpius’ godfather so the three of them were allowed to use his given name when not in class.

    “And really, everything is a long time ago for the dead, if you think about it. Either that, or time hasn’t passed for them at all. But I don’t think that’s true. I think you have some clue as to how much time has passed when you cross to the other side,” Rose answered the question without really answering it.

    “Fine, keep your secrets. Neville’s looking for you, Al. He says he could use your help in the green houses.”

    Neville Longbottom had become the Herbology professor and Al was one of the best Herbology students in the school. Rose and Albus had grown up around Neville just like they had Dean Thomas, the Muggle Studies professor. They were all on a first name basis with the two of them as well when outside of class.

    “Okay thanks. I’ll see you guys later,” Al kissed Scorp on the cheek before dashing to the Slytherin dorms for his cloak then out of the castle and to the green houses.

    “Well, that was exciting,” Rose commented as soon as he’d left.

    “Sure it was Rosie,” Scorpius rolled his eyes. “So now what?”

    “You need to finish your homework, my friend. I know you haven’t done it yet and don’t try to fool me into thinking you have,” Rose raised an eyebrow.

    “Fine, I’m going! What about you?”

    “Mine was done on Friday, as usual. And I have a really good book waiting for me in my dorm,” She answered. “Unless you needed something, Blaise?” She turned to her instructor.

    “No, not tonight Rosa; Though Pansy may have something for you to do,” He answered.

    “Point, I’ll go check. Homework, Malfoy,” Rose pushed him in the direction of the stairs to his common room. She waved to Blaise and headed toward the Hospital Wing.

    “Hello, Rose,” Pansy greeted her as she walked in. “Here we are Miss Montgomery, drink it down, and you can go,” She handed the Gryffindor a potion and turned back to Rose. Pansy was Scorpius’ godmother and, just like Blaise, Rose and Al were on first name basis with the school mediwitch. “How are you today, Rosie?”

    “Wonderful, actually. I thought I should check and see if you needed anything from me today,” Rose sat on one of the hospital beds.

    “I don’t, at least nothing I can think of. How did your shoulder heal over the summer?” Being only just after Halloween, Rose hadn’t been in the Hospital Wing yet. On the last day of last year, Rose had dislocated her left shoulder and cracked the shoulder blade.

    “Just fine, of course. Mum freaked out about it and Dad kind of just shook his head and didn’t say much,” She smiled.

    “It didn’t stay sore for very long, did it?”

    “Nope. It was back to normal by the end of the train ride.”

    “Good, let’s not do that again this year though, okay?”

    “You got it, Pansy. I’m gonna go read in my dorm now. Let me know if you need anything,” Rose waved to the nurse as she left.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Three weeks before Yule break, Al, Rose, and Scorp all wrote home about the holidays. All three letters looked similar.
    Mum and Dad,
    My friend wanted to know if I could spend Yule break with his family. I told him I’d write to ask. Please can I?
    ~Rose
    This wasn’t the first time they’d asked to spend the holidays together but they never went to each others’ house. Each reply came back frustrated that no name had yet been given for the friend whose house they’d be staying at, but with permission to go anyway. James, Lily, Fred, Roxanne, and Hugo were all going to go back home for the holidays this year instead of staying at Hogwarts.
    After Rose got the reply from her parents, she wandered down to the dungeons and knocked on Blaise’s door.
    “Hello, Rosie. What do you need today, sweetheart?” He asked, after opening the door.
    “I got the reply from my parents, they said yes. Again,” She answered, smiling.
    “Wonderful, so chances are Al’s did as well so we’re just waiting on Draco’s response,” Blaise backed up and let her into his rooms. “How are you today other than that?”
    “Great, actually. I’m mostly just bored though. What about you?”
    “Marking papers, unfortunately. Come on, sit down. Want anything?” He asked.
    “No, I’m okay right now. Thanks, though,” Rose was silent for a few minutes while Blaise went back to his marking. “Blaise, why did you never get married? I mean, Scorp’s dad has told him stories about how many girlfriends you had and how many you could’ve had when you went here and even after you left.”
    The Potions Master set his quill down and looked at Rose. “Everything at school and after was always just a fling, I guess. It was the same with the girls I dated in Italy. I suppose I just never found the right girl to settle down with. Why?”
    “Just curious, I guess. I mean, Pansy’s married, Dean’s got a husband, even Neville’s got a wife and you don’t. Not even a steady girlfriend,” Rose stated.
    “Sempre cosi quiete, (Always so curious), Rosa,” Blaise had started calling her ‘rose’ in Italian shortly after he started teaching her and Al Italian in their 2nd year. Scorpius had learned the language before he came to Hogwarts. It was useful for when the three of them spent time at Blaise’s home in Italy during their breaks, like they would be this Yule.
    “I can’t help it, it’s in my blood. Mum’s fault, really. She started me out early,” Rose grinned.
    “That really doesn’t surprise me, actually,” Blaise picked up his quill and went back to marking his papers.
    Rose wandered over to Blaise’s bookshelf and ran a finger along the spines of a few of the books. “Excellent,” She grinned and pulled one down.
    “What? Oh, that one. Just make sure I get it back, Rosa,” Blaise looked up at the book she pulled down. It was “The Count of Monte Cristo’ in Italian.
    “I always return your books, Blaise,” Rose rolled her eyes. She curled up in Blaise’s favorite armchair and started reading the book. Some time later, Rose heard the sound of china clinking down on the table next to her. “Thanks,” She muttered, not even glancing at the cup of tea he’d set down.
    “It’s hot, let it cool for a minute,” Blaise spoke up.
    “’Kay,” She didn’t once look away from the pages of the book.
    “Hey Blaise, have you seen…?” Scorpius and Al walked in. “Never mind. How long has she been reading that book?” Scorp asked.
    “A couple hours now. She hasn’t looked away from the pages yet either,” Blaise answered, not that Rose had heard any of this. She still had her nose buried in the book.
    “Yeah, sounds like Rosie. Dad wrote back, by the way. So did Al’s dad. We’re all going then, right?”
    “Yes, Rose came and told me her parents wrote her back already.”
    “I’m hungry,” Rose stated suddenly, looking away from the book. “Hey Al, hey Scorp. When did you two get here?” She asked, marking her place in the book and stretching.
    “Just a couple minutes ago. I take it that’s a good book?” Al asked.
    “The Count of Monte Cristo; it’s wonderful,” Rose answered. “Let’s go get food, guys. Tea, cool,” She picked up the cup and sipped it before realizing it was stone cold. “How long ago did you give this to me?” She asked Blaise.
    “A couple hours ago. I don’t think you actually heard me when I set it down beside you,” He answered, grinning. “Go on then, get your food,” He waved them out of his rooms and the three of them left.
    A/N: Okay so, this whole chapter was really just a filler chapter. We realized that none of the professor’s had been introduced except the Headmaster and the relationships with Pansy, Dean, Neville, and Blaise are important later on. And if you couldn’t tell by the first note, I started this chapter before we had to go to our dad’s. Our step mom is alright now though, in case you were wondering. Well, better than she was at any rate. ~Ivory
