Her breathing was heavy as he pressed himself closer, his trademark smirk gracing the features of his face. She was sure he could see how he affected her, but she wasn’t going to let him have the upper hand. Stephanie’s hand came up; connecting with Malfoy’s left cheek, his head whipping to the side as an angry hand print was left behind.
“Don’t think I am easy, Malfoy. I am far from easy, if you want to make a move on me – make it in a respectful manner, but don’t think you’re going to get a shag out of it. You aren’t Go –” she stopped herself – correcting “Merlin’s gift to women, at least not in my eyes.”
His eyes were wide, but a cold look replaced his earlier playfulness as his head turned – he growled, slamming her up against the wall, “You will regret laying your hands on me in such fashion, Kirchner. A Malfoy always gets what he wants, just keep that in mind.”
She gasped as she was pushed back against the hard wall, obviously forgetting there were consequences for every action. As he spoke she found herself at a loss, her mouth opening and closing – much like a fish as she tried to form a coherent sentence.
“We…wel –” Stephanie glanced away as his smirk returned.
“Cat got your tongue, Kirchner?” Malfoy chuckled darkly as his fingers threaded through her hair, fisting up as he pulled her closer to him – his lips pressed slightly against her ear as he whispered. “I expect we will not have a repeat of tonight, girl. Now go to bed before I have a change of heart.”
His voice sounded threatening as he pulled her by her hair causing her to whine at the sudden movement -- her back now facing him. His hand slowly slipped from her hair, tightening once in warning before coming to rest at his side. “Go, now – Kirchner.”
Stephanie didn’t need to be told twice, but she wasn’t about to let him have his satisfaction. “Sod off Malfoy, remember, you’re no gift – and what heart?”
She walked swiftly up the stairs to the girls’ dormitory without even a glance back. His snarl sounded throughout the common room as her steps quickened. She knew she’d come to regret the words, but she was furious. The boy needed to learn that she wasn’t like the other Slytherin girls; she wasn’t easy and wasn’t going to play it – even if he was a Malfoy. This wasn’t a fantasy world anymore, this was real – and she was going to have to accept that.
As she looked around she came upon the last room, her name scrawled across it in green letters – but it seemed to have no one else’s name on it either. She sighed in happiness, she didn’t have dorm mates – Wait, and why don’t I have any roommates? Won’t this make the other Slytherins’ pissy? Oh well, who cares? I don’t, obviously I don’t – I’m just thinking about it, she smiled at her inner sarcasm before opening the door to her room.
As she walked in she pushed the door back, letting it close as she then locked it. Stephanie allowed herself to look around the room afterward, it was pretty dim – the only light provided being a few torches. In the room there was a single four poster twin-sized bed, green sheets and pillows. To its right there was a decent sized dresser where she assumed her clothes were in and some of her personal belongings sat on top: a battery powered alarm, pictures, hair brush, hair accessories, and makeup were just a few. Finally, on the right side sat a large desk that had drawers on each side, on top she was glad to see her books, writing utensils, and laptop.
“Wonder how I’m going to charge it…” she muttered as she opened the computer, turning it on. She allowed it to set up as she heard a mewl, her cat hopping up into the bed and staking claim, “Sess… you can take up a portion of the bed once I get comfortable in a spot of my own,” she cracked a smile, petting the feline as he purred.
The computer had finally loaded as she glanced at it – the battery was 100% and it said ‘charging’ – weird, so it must have found some way to stay alive without electricity – maybe the laptop was still connected to her dimension? Meaning if she pulled up the internet and typed in – she did it and typed in ‘Harry Potter’ and got a listing of books and fansites… her jaw dropped, “Crap, I can’t have anyone find out about this. I hope Adrianna doesn’t have hers,” she quietly said to herself in disbelief.
She closed out of the browser and quickly set up her media player, soft music now playing after she double clicked on her ‘bedtime’ playlist. She disliked silence, so much she couldn’t even sleep in it – she turned away from the computer, her thoughts going elsewhere.
“I don’t think Draco will be very pleased to see me from now on, he was quite livid. She walked over to the desk and began opening up drawers, “paper, more books, ink, quills,” she kept searching through the other drawers. “Ah, here it is!” She held up the black book her parents had given her as she went and sat on the bed, scooting her cat over so she could stretch her legs out. She pulled out her book lamp and clamped it down on the back cover and turned it on before extinguishing the torches around her room.
“Really now, they look down upon muggles, but they’re way more technically advanced then wizards, how odd – they could learn a thing or two by getting electricity in. Not much of a no-light-at-night fan anyway,” she spoke softly to herself. She might’ve loved the darkness when she slept – it calmed her as well, but this darkness was unsettling, including with the knowledge she had.
As she made herself comfortable she opened the book, continuing from where she left off at her house – she read out-loud: “The Kirchner family is from a long line, hundreds of generations, mainly composed of German ancestors – completely pure-blood. One special trait amongst them is the Gift-of-the-Gods, named such because of certain ‘symptoms’ that arise,” Stephanie chewed lightly at her lower lip remembering Snape’s curiosity about her eyes.
“Gift-of-the-Gods? Sounds like some odd made-up psychotic thing if you ask me. Seriously, this is out of nowhere – then again I highly doubt my ‘family-line’ ever existed. So what is this Gift-of-the-Gods,” she read on. “The member still remains pure-blooded, not lesser and not more – How can you get any more pure then pure?” She commented, eyes rolling at the text but she continued, “this is said to only occur after five hundred years pass from the previous affected.”
“So the person has to die… then five hundred years pass and then there’s another one or after… so it could be more years then that,” she sighed – it still hadn’t explained what it was. Her eyes skimmed across the text landing on something that caught her attention as she read on from that point. “Many affected by this are killed because they’re a danger to the wizarding and muggle worlds.”
“That’s crazy –” Stephanie growled before peering over at the clock to her right reading 12:43AM, when did breakfast and class start again? She had to relook her schedule over, but she’d do that in a bit, she had to read on – “When the affected reaches close to 12 their body goes through certain changes being: eyes, shifting of colors, magical power increase – depending on what animal traits the witch or wizard takes on and how well they combine together is what usually determines many signs.” the book went on to list many more attributes to her ‘curse’ it seemed, the books text obviously holding a disgusted tone towards the existence of her ‘kind’. “Usually the one affected will be killed by an Unforgivable upon realization by parents or even siblings since keeping one could mean complete annihilation –”
“So basically I could be used as a tool to destroy both worlds, now I see why Dumbledore and Snape were so persistent that I keep things to myself. I also see why the Headmaster said what he did…” she closed the book; she had enough family history for now, she’d read more tomorrow. “Maybe this is why my parents left to America and then came back to Europe? Why am I alive if I’m supposed to be dead in the eyes of my family for the sheer fact that apparently I could turn on the world,” she mumbled irritably. “Kinda stupid if you ask me – how they put it. Wonder what animal I’m apparently combined with, must be some sort of cat – Snape did make a reference after all.”
She’d gotten up, the light from her little lamp guiding her way as she plucked it off the book and placed it into the drawer before picking up her schedule from off the desk she was at. “Breakfast at 7:30, classes at 9. Then lunch happens – then class starts again at 1PM” She read what classes she had the only thing really interesting her was Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts. “What do we only get like an hour for each class? Basically I have four classes every day… fun, fun.” She yawned tiredly.
It was time for bed, she had an exhausting day and she had to wake up by at least 8:30 if she wanted to eat anything and get to classes. She rolled over onto her side and set her alarm to wake her up at 7:30 everyday – she knew she’d sleep through it if she didn’t slam the snooze button 10 times before waking up… so setting it early was always best. She reached her arm over, placing the schedule on the desk – glad that both the dresser and desk were at least in arms reach before turning off the book light and tossing it over onto the desk hearing a soft ‘plink’ against the wood.
Stephanie snuggled under the covers and her cat stood up, stretching its body out before padding up to her to curl up right under her chin – purring away as lulling music played in the background. Hopefully she wouldn’t dream anything too weird, including anything involving certain Slytherins. Her eyes closed as she shifted somewhat, minutes later and she was passed out without a second thought.
The only thing greeting her in sleep –
were nightmares that seemed impossible to escape.
