If anyone has any suggestions on character pairings they would like to see that would be lovely. I know everyone hates o/c's but hopefully Anna isn't too annoying? Thanks for reading! Leda x
No real rude bits in this one, but a cameo from a Hogwarts student!
Anna stood up and wobbled a little on her feet but managed to stride out of the room fairly confidently. She opened the door and was met by a small wrinkled creature with a huge bulbous nose. Anna blinked a couple of times,
“uhhh, hello.” she said.
The tiny creature looked at her contemptuously. “I am dobble. You will follow me back to the staff quarters. ” He turned around and set off at an alarmingly fast pace for Anna, who was still feeling like she could do with a few more hours sleep.
“Umm, are you a house-elf?” said Anna who had heard of these creatures but never seen one herself.
“Yes, Dobble is a house elf” he said, not turning to her. He led her down several corridors and a few sets of stairs, Anna regretted not not paying more attention to the route. She wanted to get used to the layout of the house, and hopefully formulate a plan of escape for her and Claire. At this particular moment however she was transfixed by her tiny guide through Malfoy manor.
“I've never met a house elf before.” She said, “it's nice to meet you”
Dobble stopped in his tracks and span around to face her. “Dobble is not allowed to talk to muggle slaves, Dobble will get in trouble.” He looked for a second like his big eyes were getting teary, but he blinked the tears away and scowled at her. “So shut up and just follow Dobble.”
Anna was slightly taken aback. “Oh...okay, s-sorry” Dobble cleared his little throat and span back around . Anna stayed silent the rest of the way, she wondered what this 'trip' was and what exactly she would have to do. She wondered if she would see Claire again today and if she was being treated as badly. Anna's stomach knotted at the thought of her friend being hurt. She resolved herself to thinking about an escape and started to pay attention to her surroundings, only to realise they had made their way back to the staff quarters already. She managed to find the loo, realising that she was in fact desperate to relieve herself. She then returned to the shower room and stripped off. She turned on one of the showers setting the temperature lower than was comfortable, she wanted to be very alert for today's activities, whatever they might be. Halfway through her cold shower the door to the wet room opened and a man walked in. He looked to be in his late twenties , not especially good-looking and incredibly embarrassed to have walked in on Anna in the shower.
“Oh! Goodness me, I'm so sorry” He spluttered as she turned away from him. She grabbed one of the towels nearby and stepped out of the shower stream, her hair still soapy.
“Uhh, It's okay.” she said, more amused at his reaction than angry at the intrusion. He removed his hands from his face to look at her again.
“Who are you? If you don't mind me asking?” he said speaking through endearingly large teeth. He was dressed in gardening gear, his farmer's tan apparent on his arms.
Anna faltered, “Umm, my name's Anna. I'm new.”
He smiled. “I'm Neville, I am the grounds keeper.”
Anna pulled the towel up a little higher. “Are you a muggle too?”
He shook his head, “No, actually I'm not. Well I might as well be, I don't have my wand anymore. ” he looked rather sad for a second then smiled.
“Oh, I...see” said Anna, not understanding.
“So, are you working in the kitchens or something?” said Neville.
“No, to be honest I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing here.” Said Anna. “Mast...Mr Malfoy purchased me yesterday, with my friend Claire. At a...slave auction.” she coughed awkwardly.
Neville looked slightly shocked for a second. “Well, uhhh right then I best be going. Just got to wash my hands.” He quickly washed the mud from his hands and arms and left the room without looking at her again. Anna stared at the door for a few seconds then resumed her cold shower. She wished she could talk to someone that wasn't clearly keeping secrets.
When she had finished her refreshing shower she took the towel and wrapped it around herself and went about looking for something to wear. There was a row of tunics lined up on one of the walls of the slave communal rooms. She guessed they were to be used by anyone. She suddenly realised she had seen barely any other workers about the manor, which was quite clearly strange as it was huge. She closed the door of the shower room, and wondered what do do next. She didn't know the way back to Malfoy or where Dobble had gotten to so she decided to wander about a little. She knew as long as she didn't leave the house then she would not break the boundaries of her incarceration. Anna tiptoed through the corridors of the house. A couple of times a servant wandered past and even though she stopped and stared at them they never even glanced in her direction. She stumbled across a large room with several huge paintings, she moved towards the first one, it portrayed an old, silver haired man, she assumed must be an old relative, she moved to the next one. In it Draco Malfoy, apparently as a teenager scowled at her. She studied his face for a few more seconds and suddenly the expression changed, to that of unbridled disgust. The painting moved and regarded her. Anna thought she was probably going mad as the painting began to berate her.
“Filthy, disgusting mudblood, muggle scum!” she stepped back, and suddenly remembered Matthew telling her about wizard paintings and their ability to move and speak. She had seen wizard photographs move, but never a painting. Anna moved along to the next one. A devastatingly beautiful woman stared back at her, her long ice blonde hair pinned back elegantly which showed her long delicate neck and regal features, unlike the Malfoy men she possessed dark blue eyes, which regarded Anna with haughty disgust. Anna looked down at the name plate on the frame 'Narcissa Antonia Malfoy' it said.
'So this is Malfoy's wife' Anna thought. She whispered to the painting. “I wonder what you think of him keeping someone captive?" She then realised that she hadn't seen this woman on stage at Draco's birthday. The painting did not berate Anna as Draco had done but simply refused to look at her and gazed off into the distance. Anna moved to the next one, it depicted Malfoy, his imperious glare staring out of the frame. He was quite beautiful, she thought. His features while permanently in an expression of superior confidence, were striking. And his hair, silver-white and flowing down to his shoulders, while on anyone else would look completely ridiculous just finished his look perfectly. She gazed at this vision in paint which in turn gazed out of the frame imperiously. The painting did not berate her or turn away but merely ignored her very presence, he seemed to look through her as if she were nothing, a inconvenience.
She scanned down to the name plate, 'Lucius Abraxas Malfoy' She sniggered “Lucius?! Ha!” and burst out laughing.
“What exactly do you find funny about 'Lucius', Anna?”
She looked up to the painting but it was still simply staring out of the frame serenely.
She turned around to face Malfoy. Her hands flew up to her neck instinctively.
“Ummm, nothing..!” His eyes flashed a warning. “Nothing...master!” she squeaked, backing into the wall.
“Well, it is time for our trip.” With that he stepped forward and placed a hand on Anna's shoulder.
