Draco had attempted to sneak quietly back into the Seventh Year boys dormitory however he was met with the figures of the boy-who-lived and his Weasley sidekick who had evidently stayed awake waiting for his arrival.
"Coming in a little late, aren't you Malfoy?" The redhead said glaring at the blonde. While the Weasley boy looked downright angry, the green-eyed savior of the Wizarding World just stared down his rival with a look of distrust.
"I lost track of time in my... meeting with Granger." The Malfoy heir said. He did not need to answer to these two but as long as the conversation did not escalate he may have another chance to win Hermione's favor with his civility. His reply seemed to infuriate Weasley even more as the boy's face was turning red and his fists were clenched tight as his sides. Potter simply looked on the scene warily which was somewhat odd considering the history between the people involved.
"You better not corrupt her you slimy death eater-" the angered teen began before being silenced by his friend. Draco simply blinked in annoyance to prevent his eyes from narrowing and fueling the boy's anger even more.
"I can handle this, Ron" Harry Potter muttered to his best friend who made a big deal of going silent by crossing his arms and scoffing. The boy-who-lived then turned once more and skeptical green eyes gazed into grey.
"If you hurt her in any way, shape, or form I will kill you. Simple as that. So if you are serious about this then make sure you treat her right and if not back off now so I don't have more blood on my hands." With that the brunette turned away back towards the beds which him and his friends occupied with the redhead spluttering and complaining the whole way, shooting glares to the Slytherin as he went. The last Draco heard of them before Potter threw up a silencing charm was Weasley hissing his disapproval. Draco shook his head, while he couldn't change the somewhat cold man he had ended up as through his upbringing he could try to allow himself to drop his mask around the Granger girl in hopes she would be his wife.
As the weeks passed, the stress on the seventh year students grew, not only were they expected to study for the upcoming NEWTS but they also had the contract business to attend to. After some arguments, some refusals, and some happy (and surprising) matches the seventh years all appeared to have matches within a month. This ensured that there would be no punishments ordered unless one of the pairs had a severe fall out. The pairings thus far were: Draco and Hermione, Neville and Ginny, Blaise and Padma, Goyle and Daphne, Terry and Pavarti, Ernie and Susan, Ron and Luna and Harry and Tracey. The reactions in regards to the Malfoy-Granger pairing were mixed. Many girls gushed at the luck of the muggleborn to have been courted by such a rich and powerful wizard however her closest friends remained somewhat reluctant about the whole thing.
Due to classes and other duties, Hermione and Draco had yet to meet to discuss the more serious aspects of their contracts- the make it or break it requirements which had to be addressed with the lack of any other available matches for the two of them. Finally when the bushy haired girl was on her way to breakfast alone, the blonde was able to ambush her.
"You're not avoiding me, are you?" he drawled as he fell in step behind her, making her start and turn around abruptly catching Draco off guard as he nearly walked into her. Raising his hands he backed away slightly allowing the girl space for which she looked grateful.
"Oh its you, you startled me..." She said looking away awkwardly. He smirked as he retorted in amusement that he had seen the results of that. Ever to the point Granger immediately questioned Draco what it was that he wanted.
"Well since you are pretty much bound to choose me as your husband now because of my lack of competition at the moment I would find it beneficial to us both to know out expectations in both the near and far futures." Slowly the girl nodded in agreement but looked away sighing in a resigned sort of way showing her mixed emotions.
"Fine. When would work for you to talk business." She said, eyes flashing with an incomprehensible emotion. Unknowingly making the situation worse the blonde haughtily replied that since he had checked both of their schedules the best meeting time was after dinner that very night.
Hermione nodded curtly and confirmed she would meet in the tower after the evening meal before pushing past the blonde, shaking her head sadly and muttering to herself about how her only suitor seemed to care more about the legality of their match rather then her feelings. Catching some of the phrases Draco looked after her, dumbstruck.
"I never said that..." he whispered before cursing and walking towards the kitchens to eat away from the confusing woman who was now so involved in his future.
(SORRY for the late update! My computer completely broke and I had no time to use the library to upload until now. I will try to keep up to date from now on but no promises as my technology is still down. Don't worry though this story will not be abandoned, I will stick with it to the end!)
