Being immortal, Stefan Salvatore was able to meet many people and create ties and bonds with them until their time on the earth ended. After that, he would move on, but he would never forget about them. He would check up on the descendants of his deceased friends and help them if they needed it.

It was when he met one of those families that changed his lonely life forever. He was accepted into the family and treated as kin; never being judged when he slipped and accidentally killed a human because of his raging thirst for blood.

He met the Potters, Gwenevere and Samuel, in 1889. The two were in America on their honeymoon. Unfortunately they were accosted by a group of bandits that tried to rob and kill them. Stefan had killed the bandits and saved the couple whom almost instantly welcomed him. Saying that he risked his life for theirs so he must be a good man.

While he didn't stay with them constantly, he did visit. He visited when Gwenevere gave birth to their first child in 1892 and then on their deaths in 1902. The child, a male called Jamison after Samuel's own grandfather, followed in his parents footsteps and welcomed the roaming vampire into his family.

That continued through the years until 1980 when he was called by James and Lily potter asking him to come and meet their newborn son.

When he arrived and crossed the threshold of the house he felt it instantly. The connection between him and his one and true mate.

Seeing the look in his eyes, Lily gently placed the tiny bundle in his arms, showing him how to support the baby's head.

“This is our baby Harry.” Lily said, smiling at the smitten look already on Stefan's face.

“I understand if you don't want me coming around now.” Stefan said, while gently stroking top of his mate's head.

“Nonsense. He's your mate which means his magic, when he's old enough, will recognize you as his mate as well. Just promise that you'll protect and love him and never hurt him and we'll get along just fine.” James said, from where he had been leaning in the doorway watching his wife and son.

“I swear on my life I'll protect him, keep him safe, love him, and never force him into anything he doesn't want.” Stefan said, finally looking away from the bundle to look the two parents in their eyes so they could see the truth.

A year later, when he heard of the deaths of James and Lily Potter, Stefan was both devastated and elated. While he was upset that James and Lily had died, he was happy that his mate was still alive and safe.

He decided then that he needed to be closer to his mate. So he packed up all of his things, left a note for his pesky brother Damon, then made his way to London where he'd be able to be closer to his mate and keep an eye on him, from afar, until his mate was old enough to understand their bond.
