Chapter Six: Aftermath
Hermione awoke to a tapping sound. Hedwig sat on the sill pecking at the window. Hermione rubbed the sleep from her eyes and let the bird in.
“Hey girl,” Hermione said as she untied the letter. Hedwig fluttered down to the bowl she knew had some treats and waited for Hermione to read the letter.
Hermione,
What is going on???
Ron came storming in here last night raving gibberish! No one knew what he was saying but I did hear your name come up when Harry arrived a few minutes later. Harry said that you had made it clear that you and Ron wouldn’t work. Of course Ron came over and yelled at Harry in gibberish.. but then Harry started yelling back in gibberish!!
What did you do to them?? The entire tower is trying to figure it out..
And where was my invitation?
Ginny.
Hermione frowned. She had thought the potion would just not allow them to talk about it but apparently when they tried talking about the situation all that came out was gibberish to everyone’s ears. Hermione read the last line. Ginny could be so impatient. After last night Hermione knew that Ginny would need to be told the next morning. Hermione sighed. She’d have to pull Ginny aside before breakfast.
She walked over to her wardrobe and chose a pair of black jeans and lavender, v-neck top. It was one of the most shape hugging outfits that Hermione owned and she hoped that it would appease Ginny enough that she would forgive her faster. She picked up a small, over the shoulder black bag and was about to walk out of the door. Hermione looked back over at her bedside table; there stood the vial of blue liquid her mother had given her. One to two drops of the liquid straight or into a drink was enough to work. Hermione opened the cupboard in the table and took out a vial. Carefully she transferred some of the liquid into the empty vial. She was about to stopper the extra vial when a thought struck her. Hermione pulled out another vial and did the same to it. She carefully put the two vials into her bag and headed down to breakfast.
The corridors were bustling with students, many in muggle clothing, all heading down to breakfast. Hermione could feel eyes on her and regretted not bringing her school robe. A squeal erupted and Hermione almost lost her footing as she was collided with from behind.
“I cannot believe what you are wearing!” Ginny’s head bobbed into view.
“Ginny, hey,” Hermione smiled.
“That colour on you, oh my gosh it’s lovely.”
“I’m glad you like it.”
Ginny linked her arm through Hermione’s and they continued down the corridor. Hermione felt tension build in her stomach. One more set of stairs and they would be in the Great Hall. ‘It’s now or never,’ Hermione thought. They rounded a corner and Hermione pulled Ginny through the next door.
“Hey!” Ginny cried.
Hermione shut the door and cast a silencing charm on the room.
“Hermione, what are we doing in here?”
“You wanted to know what was going on,” Hermione reached into her bag and pulled out a vial. “But I need you to drink this before I tell you. It’s the same secrecy potion I gave Harry and Ron last night. You won’t be able to talk about what I am about to tell you unless I give you permission.” Hermione held out the vial for Ginny.
Ginny looked from Hermione to the vial as she took it. As soon as the vial was empty Hermione launched into her story about being a Selkie, how Draco had taken her skin and the spell that followed. She explained about the marriage contract and how it couldn’t be reversed.
“I hope you aren’t too angry with me,” Hermione finished.
Ginny smiled, “I’m not. I understand about your secret. If mum and I shared a secret there’s no way I’d cross her by revealing it. And the marriage contract I also get, we still have one of the old ones laying around at home. They used to be standard in pureblood families.”
Hermione visibly relaxed, “Thank you.”
Ginny walked over to Hermione and enveloped her in a hug.
“You don’t know how much this means to me,” Hermione mumbled.
Ginny pulled away and looked Hermione in the eye, a smirk crossed her face, “So Mrs. Malfoy.” Ginny cracked into a fit of giggles.
Hermione grinned and blushed a deep red.
“I am so jealous! You get all that hotness to yourself. My mouth is watering just thinking about his hot sexy body,” Ginny made some gestures.
“Ginny!” Hermione squealed and tried to stop her friends’ hands.
“What? Oh like you haven’t thought about it!” Ginny laughed.
Hermione blushed.
“Or have you seen?” Ginny asked knowingly studying Hermione’s face.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Hermione averted her eyes.
“Oh my Merlin! You’ve seen him naked,” Ginny accused.
Hermione groaned. Ginny looked hard at Hermione. Her jaw dropped.
“You didn’t!”
Hermione didn’t react.
“You did! When? How was he?” Ginny begged.
“Ginny!”
“Fine, fine.. you can just tell me later,” Ginny grinned. “Now let’s eat!”
Ginny and Hermione made their way down to the Great Hall.
“I’ll meet you over at the table,” Hermione waved Ginny away and turned to the Slytherin table.
She searched for Draco and found him sitting with Blaise. Hermione could see the tension between them. Hermione walked up behind him and cleared her throat, Draco and Blaise turned.
“Granger? Is that really you? Damn who knew you were hiding that under your robes,” Blaise chuckled.
“Malfoy, I need to speak with you, head business,” Hermione ignored Blaise.
Draco nodded and followed Hermione to just outside the doors. As soon as she made sure they were alone, Hermione slipped the potion vial into his hand.
“It’s the secrecy potion. Use it for your friends if you plan to tell them the truth. I still have enough for your parents and anyone else we may need to tell. All you need is one to two drops either straight or into a drink,” Hermione said quickly and turned to leave.
Draco caught her arm and pulled her into a kiss. Hermione pushed him away but let her lips linger.
“We’re in public!” She hissed.
“Right now I really don’t care,” Draco breathed and leaned in again.
Hermione let him kiss her one last time before pushing him away. Her stomach growled causing Draco to let out a laugh.
“Hey, unlike you I haven’t had a chance to eat,” Hermione sent a small glare.
Draco chuckled and he lead Hermione back into the hall. They separated with a small wave which did not go unnoticed. Whispers erupted from the students closest to the door and echoed down the tables. Hermione sat next to Ginny and smiled at the boys sitting across from her. Harry smiled back but Ron just scowled. Ron picked up his plate and got up from the table.
"Coming Harry? Ginny?" Ron looked from both of his friends, avoiding Hermione's eye.
"Don't be absurd Ron. Sit back down and eat with your friends," Ginny said back at her brother.
Ron snorted. Harry stood and pulled Ron further down the table away from the girls. Ginny glared at his back. Over his shoulder Harry threw an apologetic smile towards Hermione.
"Bloody boys," Ginny grumbled.
"Don't blame Harry. He's trying to keep the peace, I know that. He understands about what I am and my situation but he just needs time to adjust to who the situation is with," Hermione smiled at Ginny. "I just wish I had known how infatuated Ron is with me, maybe I could have softened the blow."
"Don't say that. Ron's got a dense skull, unless you tell him straight up it will mostly bounce right off," Ginny started to fill her plate.
Hermione looked sadly up at the boys. They were sitting with Neville and Ron had his back to her.
"What were you planning on doing today?" Ginny asked.
"Oh you know, the usual. Homework and study," Hermione shrugged and grabbed some toast.
"Well no wonder Malfoy became so interested in where you went. Unless you're studying anything you do is abnormal."
Hermione poked her tongue out at Ginny. Ginny screwed up her face in return.
"How's about we have a girls night tonight? Do each others hair and nails and I can bring over my subscription of Teen Witch," Ginny looked excitedly at Hermione.
Hermione mulled it over in her head. While she did want to be alone, she also didn't want to push away her only supportive friend.
"Ok, but just us two."
Ginny let out a squeal. Hermione screwed up her eyes and wondered what she had gotten herself into.

Draco glanced nervously at Blaise. While he was still angry at Draco, Blaise had accepted the invitation back to the head dormitories.
"So," Blaise started, "You get to share all of this with Granger." Blaise looked at his friend, "Lucky you."
Draco scoffed, "Not until you hear what's happened."
Blaise raised an eyebrow.
Draco run his hands before stuffing them into his pockets looking for the vile. "What I am about to tell you is a major secret, that's why I couldn't tell you last night. What I am about to tell you is now not just my secret but other peoples as well." Where was that blasted vile?
Blaises eyes widened, "You got the mark."
"What?" Draco's head snapped up, his hands stopped searching.
"You got the mark didn't you? What did they use against you?" Blaise sat on the edge of his seat.
"No, no, no. I haven't gotten the mark. I think father wants that to happen over the Christmas holidays," Draco's fingers twitched and they touched the cool vile. Finally!
Blaise looked confused.
"Before I tell you I need you to drink this. It's a secrecy potion and without my or the other peoples permission you will not be able to utter it to another person," Draco held out the vile.
"Don't you trust me?" Blaise looked hurt.
"Of course I do mate. But there are people involved in this that don't know you and so don't know where your loyalties lay. If they found out I had told you and not given you this I would be skinned!"
Blaise quirked an eyebrow.
"Just drink the damn potion," Draco said frustrated. He needed to tell someone.
Blaise took the vile and drank the tiny amount. Draco fell back into his chair.
"Thank fuck," Draco breathed. From his bag he produced a book on mythical creatures. "Flip to the marked page." Blaise took the book and looked at the flagged page.
"Selkies, mythical beings similar to that of mermaids," Blaise trailed off as he read the passage. "Are you trying to tell me you've found a Selkie? That someone in this school is a seal?"
"Not just found one.. I'm married to her," Draco looked his friend in the eye.
Blaise's jaw dropped.
"Unfortunately, when a Selkie's skin is taken it releases a spell over the thief and the skins Selkie owner. That part is absolutely true. The bad news however is that we used one of my families marriage contracts."
"Oh Draco," Blaise put his head in his hands.
With a rustling of paper Draco pulled out the marriage certificate from his bag. He held it out to Blaise and waited for his head to lift.
Blaise took the paper without looking. "Do I want to look?" Given silence as a reply Blaise looked at the contract. "Fuck Draco!" He let the paper fall out of his hands.
Draco watched his friend jump up from the couch and start pacing around the room.
"You are so royally screwed mate. I mean of all the girls in the school it just had to be her! Have you told your father? Of course you haven't! You're still alive," Blaise continued to ramble on about how screwed Draco was.
"Thank you so much for your words of encouragement," Draco interrupted.
"I'm sorry mate," Blaise sat next to Draco and gave him a hit on the back. "At least she's hot."
Draco gave a short laugh, "You've got that right." Memories from the night before came into his mind. "What do you know about strip teases?"
Blaise looked at him shocked. "You mean.."
"Yeah, I had no clue what she was doing last night but by Merlin it was fantastic!"
"Did you guys go any further?"
Draco nodded.
Blaise elbowed Draco. "Well come on! Details!"
Draco opened his mouth to describe the mind blowing sex he had the night before but found he couldn't quite work out what to say. He remembered what happened and that it felt amazing but the rest was a blur. He couldn't even remember what she looked like naked, only that it was fantastic.
"Draco?"
"I can't remember," Draco frowned. "I remember we had foreplay, oral and then sex but I can't remember the details, like what she looked like or what she did. I can remember it feeling amazing though, but everything else is a blur. Gah! I hate this stupid spell!"
"All of that in one night? What did you do, get her drunk?"
"No. We were under the influence of the Selkie's spell the entire time. That's probably why I can hardly remember anything from last night. I get fragments but they are only very brief."
"Man that sucks. Guess that will just make round two even more exciting," Blaise nudged Draco.
Draco tried to keep calm but a tinge of pink blushed his cheeks.
"Nervous aye?" Blaise laughed.
"She is everything that my upbringing tells me to hate but then this damn spell kicks in and I want her, physically and emotionally. But the worst part isn't that," Draco sat in silence for a minute and Blaise waited patiently. "I think it's changing my feelings towards her. When we're together my mind clouds but when we're apart it clears and I think the spell is changing how I feel."
Blaise nodded, "Draco.. I don't think it's the spell."
"What?"
"I've seen how you acted around her. Your insults lessened last year and then this year to practically not at all despite your close living quarters. I think you've developed a crush on her."
"Don't be ridiculous."
"She's been everything you couldn't have. Beauitful and smart but you couldn't have her because of her blood status."
Draco just stared ahead.
"You know what I say is true. Of all the girls you've been with none of them compare with Granger. She is the only one who comes even remotely close to having the same interests as you let alone hold an intelligent conversation."
"How does this even work out in your mind?"
Blaise grinned, "I'm an outsider looking in. I can see things when you are blinded to them. Just admit it. It's not the spell and you are using it as an excuse."
"You know, from this whole conversation you seem to have forgotten that she is part magical creature."
"Beh, details. Who cares? Draco you've been given a chance here. You can finally get to know her. Despite the situation with her being a Selkie, it is what's giving you a chance to be with her. Even better is your father won't be able to do anything about it, the contract is binding, even he has to admit it."
"But what if our relationship crumbles? It's not like we can just break up, we're married," Draco hung his head into his hands.
Blaise put his hand on Draco's shoulder, "Stop being so negative. Enjoy the situation."
Draco looked at his best friend, "Thanks mate. You have no idea how relieved I am to have you in the loop."
The portrait door opened and in walked Hermione. She spotted the two boys on the couch and stopped.
"Oh, hi," She raised her hand and gave a small wave.
Draco stood and gave an awkward nod. Blaise smirked and stood as well.
"Granger, although from what I hear that no longer applies," Blaise gave a chuckle as Hermione blushed.
"Well mate, I'll see you later. I have a lot to think over thanks to you," Blaise smiled and left the dormitory.
"He took it rather well it seems," Hermione looked at Draco who avoided her eyes. "What did he say?"
"To not be so negative and make good of the situation."
"What on earth does that mean?"
Draco's palms became sweaty as the nerves built in his stomach. He knew Blaise had been correct in his assumptions even if he didn't want to admit they were true. He heard her footsteps come closer to him.
"Draco?" Hermione stood in front of him. "Are you ok?"
Draco looked into her chocolate brown eyes. He loved those eyes so much, they looked so warm unlike his cold blue ones.
"I know we've never gotten along but know that if you need to talk to someone about this I'm here. I'm going through this as well so we should stick together," Hermione gave him a small smile.
He loved to see her smile, especially at him. Hermione watched as his eyes softened and he seemed to be off in his own little world. Convinced he was no longer listening to her Hermione went to go to her room. Draco's hand shot out to her arm and stopped her.
"Wait," He whispered.
Startled Hermione looked at him. All the looking up at him was making her neck ache. She was sure Draco was at least six foot. Slowly he moved closer to her and enveloped her into an awkward hug. While they had hugged, and kissed, before this seemed different. Draco weaved his fingers into her hair and breathed in her scent. She smelled like the fresh ocean breeze on a sunny day. Draco brought his face back and rested his forehead on hers.
"Blaise, made something very clear to me today," Draco put a hand to the side of Hermione's face and tilted her head back. He inched his face down towards hers and their lips connected. It was soft as first until Hermione kissed him back with passion. Hermione wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. She needed him. Hermione traced her tongue along his lips and Draco eagerly opened his mouth to her. Their tongues danced and explored each other as their hands explored each others bodies. Draco's hands ran down her sides, his palms grazed the sides of her breasts causing him to moan into her mouth. Hermione's finger tips found the bottom of his shirt. They grazed against his skin and she slowly glided her hands onto his stomach. As she felt his soft skin and well toned muscles she bit her lip, breaking the kiss. Hermione opened her eyes to see his half lidded. On her hips and the small of her back she felt his hands pressing her body into his.
"Draco," Hermione started to get his attention. "The spell.."
"Has nothing to do with my actions. I want this," Draco leaned in to kiss her again.
Hermione let his lips brush hers but then she pulled away, "I..I.." She looked up into his now open eyes.
'What am I doing? He's only kissing me because of the spell! I can't do this.' Fear coursed through her body, she had to get away from him. Hermione quickly turned and ran up to her room.
"Hermione!" Draco started after her but she slammed the door.
Draco stood in the common room alone and utterly confused. Why had she run? Perhaps she didn't like him in that way yet. Draco cursed his stupidity. He had been her enemy for the past seven years, called her horrible names. How he expected her to return his feelings he had no idea. Perhaps it was the fact that they were married and had had sex. Draco went up to his room and busied himself in his homework. He decided to let the situation cool before confronting Hermione.

Sorry about the long gap between updates. As I wrote on my Tumblr my computer died, was fixed but left me with no word, only Word Pad :( However since then I have discovered the miracle of Google Documents (I love Google!!) and good thing I did. Lots of spelling mistakes. Let me know if I missed any words.
In my last Tumblr update I mentioned I got to see some seals in action on my holidays. It has given me some perspective and shown me that I may have to change part of what I was planning due to different seal physiology. Anyway. Working on Chapter 7 now, Woohoo!
