"He is Harry Potter."
A cry went up throughout the pack.
"No!"
"It can't be!"
"Why the hell would we take him in!?"
The last question came from Namile. She was on her feet, teeth gritted, her breathing erratic.
Maya ducked in to answer. "We didn't know who he was at first and then when we saw his injuries…"
"His injuries!? Who gives a fuck about his injuries?! Why haven't you killed him?! I'll fucking do it myself!"
Namile started out in a sprint across the camp but her speed was no match for Fenir. He grabbed her around the waist.
"Let go of me, you bastard!" she started to bite and claw at the Alpha. "Fucking baby-killer!" she screamed at the distant hut, her eyes alight with fury. Fenir didn't try to defend himself and slowly she began to wane, her anger stealing her energy. Ram took hold of her from Fenir, running his fingers through her blond trellises.
"Shhhh, my love, shh. It'll be okay."
"He'll take away Luc," Namile said, the tears winding the way down her face choking her words. "Please don't let him take away my baby."
"Shhh, I won't. Luc is safe, Nammy. Everyone is safe, shhh."
"Hold her head still." Maya came up behind the pair with a blue bottle in her hand. Ram eyed her up suspiciously. "It will help her calm down and sleep."
Ram took the bottle and slowly coaxed Namile to drink, holding her close as she drifted off to sleep, her chest rising and falling.
"She should be fine in the morning."
Ram gave a small nod of thanks to the healer. He knew the two of them didn't get on but he didn't doubt the small healer's care for all her patients. He cradled Namile close and sat back down on the log. Luc leaned in close to his parents and was rewarded by his father's spare arm encircling his shoulders.
"You should probably take her back…"
"I will be here to listen to this insanity and then I will take her to lie down." Ram's teeth gritted, trying to keep himself calm.
Fenir took a deep breath. It wasn't going well, which was not unexpected. "The first thing to remember is that we have no jurisdiction here. Lupin is one of us but Potter belongs to The Dark Lord. There is a standing capture order for him and graphic descriptions of what happens if someone kills him."
"Then give him to The Dark Lord, let him deal with him!" It was Tempar this time. There was a murmur of nods from the rest of the pack.
"What if the rebels come looking for him? You would bring that down on us?" Han's voice was low and calm.
Fenir had to take a second, he hadn't even thought of the rebels. He looked over the Maya who looked back at him, also desperate for an answer. "The rebels are weak, if they attack we will crush them."
"Also with the injuries they gave him I doubt they expected him to live. As far as they are concerned he is dead."
Han snorted derisively, obviously not agreeing with their appraisal of the situation.
Fenir tried a different tack, he raised his voice and addressed the whole pack again. "Lupin has asked us to grant him sanctuary, he is …" he searched for the right word "he is Lupin's pack, his child."
"He gave no mercy to our pups why should we give any to him?" The murmur of agreement became louder.
"He is weak, if we were to call The Dark Lord now he would not survive it." Maya cut in, his body language pleading with them for some compassion.
"That is for the Wizards to sort out not us. Let them take him and be done with it." Ram said, cradling his sleeping mate and child to him, glaring at the two of them.
Fenir watched as Maya sagged his head in defeat before turning back to his pack. "I have listened to you and understand your feelings but as Alpha this is my decision. I will think on it today and tell you in the morning. Right now I suggest we all finish up here and go about our day." With that Fenir turned and left the circle.
"Alpha!" a voice called after him. He turned to see Elouise chasing after him, closely followed by Evan. He stopped and allowed her to catch up. Her eyes were still red from unshed tears. "Can I see him? Can I see my Remmy?"
Fenir gave her a small smile and a comforting pat on the shoulder. "Of course, El. I'm not sure he will be awake though. Maya gave him something to make sure he rested."
She gave him a brilliant smile and clasped his large hand in her small ones. "Thank you, Alpha." she hurried off to the tent where Lupin was current asleep whilst Evan acknowledged Fenir with a smile and a nod of the head before rushing after his excited mate.

Maya left the circle at he same time Fenir, leaving the murmurs and scowls behind him. He understood their reasons but he had hoped they would show a little more compassion, perhaps that was too much to ask, after all they had suffered at the hands of wizards it wasn't surprising that they bore their leader ill will. Perhaps if he had let them they in to see his scars, his injuries perhaps they would have been able to understand but after seeing their reactions today that probably wasn't the best idea. He arrived at his hut and pushed aside the door.
"Hello." a weak voice almost whispered from the vicinity of the bed. Maya jumped backwards in shock but quickly controlled himself.
"You shouldn't be awake, you need to heal."
The shaggy haired boy on the bed smiled weakly. His face looked almost sunken, dark circles surrounding his large eyes, making his skin look almost translucent. "I heal quickly. Even quicker thanks to your potions."
Maya acknowledged his thanks with a small nod of his head before moving over to his bedside and checking his temperature. "How long have you been awake?"
He gave another lopsided smile, "Long enough. You guys are loud when you're angry."
"You heard?"
Harry nodded. "Yes, thank you for taking in Remmy. He is strong, I know he'll be okay with your help.
"I'm sorry about what they said about you. They don't know…" he gestured towards Harry's various injuries, not feeling able to list them off to him.
"It's okay, I didn't really expect anything different. If Voldemort comes before Remmy wakes up can you tell him that I love him and not to blame anyone," he shrugged lightly, "this was the way it was always going to be."
"We haven't called The Dark Lord yet, we can't avoid it forever but I am hoping the Alpha will hold off until you are a little stronger."
"I am strong enough now. Don't risk your pack on my behalf."
Maya couldn't keep the shocked look from his face. "You can't mean that. You don't know what he'll do to you when he gets you. He'll kill you!"
"Healer," Harry voice became low, "I know exactly what he will do to me and there are worse things than death. Do you know what he will do to you where finds out that you have been keeping me from him?" Maya took a sharp in take of breath at the thought up stood firm. "Call him now, I am not worth the risk."
Maya was scandalized. How could someone be so matter of fact about someone killing them? He had seen people commit suicide before but there was always sadness or anger, some form of emotions fueling their resolve. This was different, just cool resignation that he was going to die. "No I won't. I will not have one of my patients butchered, enemy or not!"
Harry raised a eyebrow, "You have no choice. If you don't contact him by tomorrow morning I will contact him myself. Your pack is worth more than me."
"You are holed up in bed! You can barely move! How do you think you are going to contact The Dark Lord!"
"I have my ways, healer. I am very grateful to you for your efforts and apologize for any problems I have caused for you but I cannot have anymore blood on my hands." He was looking even more tired, his body flagging. Suddenly his body was wracked by a fit of coughing.
Maya poured a cup of water which was accepted gratefully. The coughing subsided and slowly the exhaustion took over his small body. Maya ran his hands through the boy's unruly mop of hair. It was sodden with sweat and dirt. "Rest now, there will be plenty of time later." Harry's eyes drifted closed against his wishes and he fell in to a light sleep. Maya waited a little while to make sure he was asleep before heading out of the hut and heading back over to the circle.
"Blue," he called out to his mate who was sitting quietly on his log with their son. Pelim got up quickly and rushed over to him with his father trailing behind, his face serious. Maya swept his son up into his arms and rubbed their noses together lightly.
"So you decided to spend some time with your family, eh?"
Maya blushed slightly. "Um, no." Pelim gave a little cry and clasped his arms around his mother's neck.
"I know, sweetie, I know. Mummy won't be much longer but right now Mummy needs to go find Alpha and he needs Daddy to go and watch little Harry."
"Come on, May, you can't be serious!"
"Yes I am, I can't trust anyone else, Blue. Please?"
"What about Pelim? Where's he going to go, hum? Elouise is busy, and everyone else is distracted at the moment."
Maya turned to his son in his arms. "You can come with Mummy if you promise to be a good boy. Can you be a good boy for Mummy?" The little boy noodled enthusiastically.
"Fine, but you owe me one," Blue grumbled.
Maya reached over to him and gave him a peck on the cheek. "I promise I will make it up to you. Come and get me if he wakes up. I shouldn't be too long. Love you." Maya turned walked quickly in the direction Fenir had walked in.
"Love you too!" Blue called after him before he slumped towards his hut shaking his head.
Maya walked towards the Alpha's small hut enjoying his time with his son. The last couple of days had been hard on his boy. His little world had been thrown for a loop, not sleeping in his own hut or seeing his mother, so he needed a little bit of comfort. He let his love for his child flow through their shared bond and had it returned with ease from the bundle in his arms, lifting the healer's heart. Soon the bond between them, one which every sub had with their pups, would weaken until it became just wisps of emotion. Already as he began to understand words it was becoming less defined, the emotions and needs more abstract, so Maya savored every moment of their unique connection whilst he could.
They moved slowly through the village, the urgency and stress Maya felt earlier began to melt as he listened to his son babble in half English, telling him all about the happenings of the past few days from his perspective, how Luc wasn't allowed to play and how French had played a happy tune for him to dance to make him smile. It was a calmer, more rational healer who knocked against the Alpha's door frame and entered at his gruff command.
Fenir looked up from his position on the floor. "What now?" There was a clipped exhaustion in his voice and a foreboding darkness in his eyes.
"Potter woke up whilst the meeting was going on." Pelim squirmed in Maya's arms, he was normally calm with Fenir but the Alpha's dark mood was obviously unnerving the child. Maya held him tight and he calmed down.
"I thought he was weak?"
"He is recovering faster than I expected him to but he is still shaky." Fenir snorted. "There's more. He has told me to contact The Dark Lord immediately."
Fenir stood, clenching his fists by his side. "What is he suicidal?! No!"
"The way he says it doesn't sound like we have much choice. He has threatened to do it himself if we don't. If we get caught sheltering Potter the wizards will come down on us without mercy."
"We'll see about this!" Fenir moved to storm out of the hut.
"He is asleep at the moment, I slipped something into his water to put him out for a couple of hours, I think, so we have some time. He gave us until tomorrow morning anyway. It was weird though. He heard everything, Namile and the rest of the pack, but he seemed almost relieved, like he was happy about dying. He thanked us for taking in Lupin, thanked me for my help and then told me he wasn't worth saving!"
Fenir took several deep breaths, calming himself to process the new information. He took a deep breath "Okay," his eyes darted from side to side as he formulated a plan, "who's watching him at the moment?"
"Blue. I didn't trust anyone else anywhere near him."
Fenir nodded, "Good. No one can know what Potter said, not even Blue if you can help it. Will Lupin be awake yet?"
"Probably, El is with him now."
"Good. If they are as close as they seem perhaps Potter will listen to him. We need to buy some time to find out what the hell is going on."
Maya nodded and exited the hut, Fenir following closely behind.
A/N Hi all! Well I am finally getting on with the story and it seems to be going to plan at the moment. Please let me know what you think.
