So this story and me have a sort of love hate relationship going on at the moment lol. Just finished reading Goldhorse’s latest chapter (It seems to be one of the really good fanfics on here lol, if you haven’t checked it out go ahead lol :D). And well after reading the story I personally felt like I should write a few more chapters for this fic, as I seem to have a good idea on how to make it flow and how to end it lol :D. To all the readers who do decide on reading this story, a fair warning to you all à I am a really busy guy and usually only write to relieve some of my stress and get lost into HP’s magical world for a moment’s respite. Hence, if you choose to read on, read at your discretion as I started this story a year ago and have only posted 6 chapters so far lol. So I will ask for your forgiveness in advance and hope that you bear with me lol. Anyways on with the new chapter :D.
Chapter 6 – The trip part 2
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But before she could answer, Draco had already cast the charm and the next thing both of them knew was the weird feeling of apparition where it felt as if all your insides are being pushed in and packaged. Draco and Hermione landed at the edge of Diagon alley, just on the inside of the wall that lead towards the Leaky Cauldron and then off to Muggle London. Draco again offered her his arm and Hermione looked around nervously until she saw that Draco was dead set on not caring what anyone else thought.
“Lead by example right Draco,” smiled Hermione.
“Precisely.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I opened my eyes and stared across the room at the wall blankly. It hadn’t been too long since I had been put in here and treated like filth. Automatically a sneer sneaked up on my face. That stupid Mudblood and Potter would pay dearly with the blood traitors. It was because of them that I had fallen out of grace with the Dark Lord. If not for Potter and his merry little band I could have been at the manor sipping a nice cocktail of lime cordial and firewhiskey. My hand flexed into a C – shape as if by doing that the glass would just appear there. Oh how I would love to just toss back a cup and forget about this.
I look across the bars of my little room, if it can be called a room, the place wasn’t fit for an animal much less a wizard of his standing. I glance across at my other compatriots, many were just lolling around and staring blankly at the wall and some were having their soul almost sucked out by the Dementors. I wondered why the Dark Lord hadn’t already moved upon the Prison, it isn’t as if he is incapable of doing so. In the past the Dementors answered to the Dark Lord and so they would do so again. I am brought out of my musings as all of a sudden I feel the fear gripping cold vanishing from my bones. I look up to see a man walking towards the prison cells. Upon a closer inspection I see a death eater robe and mask in place. The man removes his mask and leans towards the cell opposite of me.
“So the Dark Lord has finally deemed that we have suffered our punishment?” I asked.
Mulciber looks across the cell at me and shakes his head in a negative manner. “No the Dark Lord has asked me to remove you all from prison so that he may punish you in person. You screwed up Malfoy Sr. You screwed up Royally!” Chuckled Mulciber.
Merlin knows what sort of humour this pathetic man had in front of me. But I still needed him to get me out of here, there can only be a certain limit to the Dark Lord’s mercy. “Well then what are you making our Lord for, Open this door so that we may get going already,” I try to stop a sneer from froming on my face but fail horribly. Merlin I hate pathetic brutes like these.
Mulciber smiled at me and I noticed that he was short a few teeth. I lean away from the bars as he waves his wand in a complex pattern and all of a sudden all the bars along the hall open up. I step out to see Crabbe Sr., Goyle Sr., Macnair, Rudolphus Lestrange and many others step out of the way. Mulciber throws us each a piece of metal, it looks like an old melted lamp post to me. I sneer at his ineloquent choice of object for a portkey. He looks at me and smirks in a knowing manner. Fool had forgotten his place! I quickly mask my emotions and tamp down my anger. It wouldn’t do to lose my temper here, after all I was heading back home. It was about time the Malfoy’s rise again to regain the favour of the Dark Lord.
“Hold on tight you louts, I am activating the portkeys.” Mulciber waved his wand and I felt a tugging sensation in my gut and before I knew it I was back in the ball room of Malfoy Manor. It was currently used as the Dark Lord’s Throne room. I let go of the melted lamppost and then looked around. The others appeared as dazed as me. I looked towards the front of the room and so the Dark Lord lounging on his throne. I quickly make my way towards my lord and kneel at his feet.
“Ah Ah Ah we are finally joined by my loyal supporters. Some of you I am seeing after a long time, it fills me up with joy to see you all” rasped the Dark Lord’s voice. “Rise my fellow Deatheaters. Rise and we shall conquer what was once ours. They shall pay, yes they shall, the mudbloodsss shall pay! Mudbloodsss!” Towards the end the Dark Lords voice had turned into a hiss. I rise from my kneeling position to look up at him and I see that the Dark Lord is surveying all of us who came back from Azkaban. I look up in time to see him staring at me, I quickly lower my eyes. “Ahh Lucius, dear old Lucius, How are you doing my friend?”
I answer without hesitation “I am doing fine My Lord, as fine as can be expected after Azkaban my lord.” My face turns into a grimace at that, slightly.
“Crucio!”
Before I knew it, I was on the ground writhing in pain, it felt as if my insides were being ripped out one inch at a time. I fell to my knees and then on my face. Soon my body was curled in a foetal position and whimpers were leaving my mouth no matter how hard I tried to stop them. The torture felt as if it had lasted an eternity before it ended.
“Did you really think that I would not punish you after your failure at the ministry last year Lucius. Or perhaps you forgot about it.” Said the Dark Lord in his angry voice.
I drew a breath in and pushed myself up off of the floor and pushed myself to my knees. I formed a fist with my left hand and put it in front of me while moving my left knee so that it wasn’t on the floor anymore. I bit my bottom lip inside my mouth to keep the cry of pain inside until I felt the all too familiar metallic taste fill my mouth. I lowered my eyes to the ground and spoke in a shaky voice “Forgive me my lord. I promise you I shall not fail again, the house of Malfoy shall not fail you again. My son and I shall thrive under your hand and serve you loyally till our deaths sire and even then, if it is possible.”
The Dark Lord’s hoarse wheeze was heard as he laughed at my words.
Crucio!
I saw the floor looming up and approaching me at a very quick pace. I heard the sickening crunch of my nose breaking and then felt it out of place as a few seconds went by. The cruciatus curse at this point was freely wrenching screams out of my throat. I felt the blood pool in my throat, I must have bit my lip too hard in order to stop those screams, not that it made any difference. The curse was lifted off of me and as my senses returned to me slowly I registered the sounds of laughter once again. I slowly pushed myself up again and blinked several times and shook my head a couple of times to set my sense in the correct order. As soon as I was able to focus again, I noticed that there was a loud voice emanating in the Manor’s room. The voice sounded very familiar to me. I looked up to see that all the death eater’s including my lord himself were staring at a hollow figure standing in the centre of the room behind me.
My eyes were still feeling a tad bit unfocused from all the torture that I had just endured. It took a couple of moments before I realized I was looking at Acturus Aiden Malfoy, the first Malfoy to have come to Britain and the one responsible for starting the Malfoy Legacy.
“It is ridiculous for me to see you in such state Lucius. All your preceding generations are no doubt turning in their graves as I am at the moment. Sheer words cannot even begin to voice the disappointment that I am feeling towards you. Malfoys throughout all generations have been leaders that have led their world into a new era at times, while I have noticed that since Cygnus our lineage has become a little too fascinated with blood purity and such non sense. I could care less what type of blood exists in a person, the only thing that I and your ancestors have cherished is talent and power. A person must have a persona that is charismatic yet demure, powerful but controlled, none of which exist within you. I have to say that I had lost all faith for our lineage since Cygnus and You. But now I have hope once again, for in Draco I see all the qualities that I deem fit for a Malfoy to have. He has enacted the Prima law of our family, a law that has been signed and sealed with the witches of fate itself and cannot be contested with anyone or anything. The young Malfoy has asked for his birthright, the right to the control of Malfoy finances and properties and as of this moment I give the right to him. The wards are to be altered in exactly one minute after I finish talking.
For once what was and for once what is let it be known that thou hast been duly noted as unworthy of the name Malfoy.
From this moment forth you shall not be known as Lucius the man representing the Malfoy Family but rather you shall be known as Lucius the man who was cast out of the family by his own son and his ancestors as well. You shall not have the right to join us in the afterlife as all the other Malfoy heads have had. From this moment on you shall be known as Lucius Son of None. Your right to the name Malfoy as of this moment is forfeit.
Let all that is return as it once was and let once what was become what is.”
With a puff of green smoke the figure vanished, and Lucius stared dumfounded towards the gathered people. He saw a huge timer come up above where the figure was and he could see it counting down quickly. It was a 59 and then after a few seconds at 52.
“What is the meaning of this Lucius,” roared Voldemort in his wheezy voice.
I twisted my neck around to face My Lord as the timer continued to count down. “My Lord according to the Prima Law if the people who do not have access to the property remain within the boundaries, they are literally shredded to pieces body and soul. I am afraid if we do not leave the manor before the timer is out we would all die as the magic that prevails in these lands is extremely strong, perhaps as strong as Hogwarts Founder’s magic.” I spoke quickly and noticed that there were only 20 seconds left in the timer now. I urged my body to stay still as, if I were to leave prior to My Lord’s command it would mean trouble for me, and perhaps even death right away.
“Everyone clear out of Malfoy Manor right this instant!” Snapped Voldemort. Everyone quickly made way towards the entrance of Malfoy manor and soon, a horde of people swathed in black and grey with masks were floating towards the Manor gates very quickly.
I looked around in my panic and saw Narcissa standing to the side. “Quickly Cissa! If we don’t leave now, we won’t be able to make it out of here alive!” I yelled at her. “Draco has betrayed us, from this point on he’s no son of ours, hurry up Cissa!” I quickly strode towards her and snapped my fingers around her wrist. I tugged at her and started towards the gates when all of a sudden I lost my balance as she yanked her hand out of my grip.
“Your son turned his back on you Lucius, not on me. He was never loyal to the Dark Lord’s cause and to tell you the truth neither am I. We are finally making a stand Lucius, I do not wish for the life you have led to be thrust upon my only child. Begone Lucius, I do not wish to see you again in this lifetime and the only time that I do would be to see your corpse and even that to pacify my soul that you are dead!” Screamed Narcissa.
“Cissa...please Cissa” pleaded Lucius.
“Malfoy Sr.!” Roared Voldemort. “Grab Nagini and quickly leave the manor. Hurry you goat brained fool!”
I spared one last glance at Cissa as I swiftly moved my wand and levitated Nagini over the gates. I looked one last time towards what was my home and how it had been taken from me and vowed to myself that I shall brand Draco as a blood traitor and hunt him till I die and even after death come back to haunt him as a ghost. The blood traitors and the mudblood will be killed at all costs.
“We will go to the Lestrange Manor for the time being seeing as how we need a new place.” Spoke Voldemort outside the gates. He had tried various spells and enchantments but the Manor had withstood them all without even a crack appearing. After a few more attempts, the manor even started to retaliate against them. “I hope you will be able to prepare everything on a short notice Rodolphus. I do hope your dungeons are in perfect condition as they will have their first guest in quite a few years. Bind that blood traitor’s Father!” Roared My Lord as many wands pointed in my direction and soon I found myself standing there vulnerable. My Lord pointed his wand at me and yelled “Cucio!!” It was by far the strongest curse he had felt in a long time. As blackness started to creep into my vision, I fought to stay alive and conscious. I still had to take my revenge before I died. Soon blackness covered my vision.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It had been a couple of hours since Draco and I had arrived in the Diagon Alley. We had gone around the shops and looked at little nothings while we waited for the Gringott’s bank to prepare what we had previously asked them to complete. We went to Flourish and Blott’s to look for any new books by Scholar Freud. Draco kept on making faces whenever I browsed his books.
“You do know there is no point to studying such a stupid book right, I mean whatever that bloke said in there it is either completely retarded or outdated at this point,” Said Draco while he crinkled his nose. It made him look a little funny and human, I giggled a little at this.
“Even though it is outdated, it is where our roots lie in understanding the various aspects of our mind. Who knows, if Freud hadn’t come up with such ridiculous theories then no one would have been hard pressed to prove him wrong and hence our whole evolution of this field would not have occurred. Everything is important regarding a subject, and its history is perhaps one of the most important aspects as it teaches us many things. Do you by any chance know what Electricity is? Muggles’ lives depend on it in the current era.” I asked while looking at him.
He looked at me with a dubious look and asked with an innocent expression “Ele-le-le-le what?”
I quickly put a hand on my mouth to stifle my laughter, but seeing his look made me loose it. I quickly descended into a fit of laughter, he looked at me accusingly which just made me laugh again even harder. Ongoing people were staring at us and I noticed a strange red tint in Draco’s cheeks. I finally patted my cheeks form all that laughing and smiled at him and explained to him what Electricity is and the way it was pronounced. We quickly approached the counter and I put the books down that I wanted to buy. Before I could even reach my purse, the books were already paid for and we were heading out of the store. I gave Draco a dubious look and he looked at me with a serious expression and asked me to explain about that Ele-le-le thing. As we made our way out of the shop I was still chuckling here and there. This situation was too ridiculous!
“How is it that you know about stem cell research that very few people in even the muggle world know about but don’t know something so obvious and basic about them,” I said as a couple of chuckles escaped my mouth.
“I didn’t bother looking up anything that didn’t pertain to my research. And plus the journal of Nature that I ordered talked nothing about that Elele thing,” I struggled with my smile at this point again but it was a rather poor attempt at a struggle as I ended up flashing my smile at him anyways.
“Aww its ok Drakie! I shall teach you everything about the big bad muggle world,” I said while imitating at baby’s voice. Draco scowled at me and whipped his hand from mine and strolled on ahead of me. I laughed a little at his antics again and ran to catch up to him. I put my hand through his again and walked slowly to slow his pace down again. He still had a little scowl on his face. I laughed to myself again and stopped walking, pulling him to a halt too. He looked at me still feigning to look a little mad. “Stop scowling Draco, life’s too short to not be happy at all times,” I said as I reached up to his face and used my fingers and forge his face into a semblance of a smile but again it looked too forced and alien. I gave him a cross look and he finally conceded a little and allowed his face to relax. I looked up into his face with a smile on my own face. I don’t know how long we will be able to smile like this , I thought to myself. Before I could lower my heels to stand normally again, a bright flash went off next to us. We quickly pulled out our wands and were about the curse the source of the flash when we noticed that we were staring into the eyes of a portly man holding a camera. He quickly bobbed his head and rand into the crowd. “What was that about?” I wondered aloud.
“Don’t know but I don’t think we should hang around here long enough to find out, Let’s go we are getting late for our 11 o’clock appointment at Gringotts.”
Draco and I quickly made our way through the crowds, not that many people were in the street at this time. We quickly arrived at the steps leading to the bank. We were about to enter the bank when Draco asked me to wait as he quickly went down the steps. I looked on in confusion as he descended towards a flower shop. I started to feel a little happy as I saw him approach the shop, but soon it turned into disappointment as he knelt down by a little girl who was trying to reach a flower that was levitating 2 feet above her. It seems her friend who was older than her was bullying her. Draco quickly snatched the flowers and gave it to the little girl and had a stern word with the older boy who was scuffling his feet in a minute and was looking abashed. Draco nodded in a satisfactory manner and was about to turn when the little girl tugged at his pants and gave him one of her blue flowers’. It was a blue azalea. Draco took it from her thanked her and came up towards me. “Is that flower for me Draco?” I asked in a mischievous tone.
“Why would I bring you flowers Hermione,”asked Draco looking at her seriously. Hermione couldn’t help but feel that slight disappointment in the pit of her stomach.
“Never mind, let’s head in, we shouldn’t keep the goblins waiting for us.” I quickly strode in and missed the crooked smile that was hanging on his face as he walked in after me. We quickly made our way to the head goblin and soon I saw that the blue flower was pinned to the left side of his vest, it looked nice. Draco looked at me and said “When we are free some time later in the future Granger, remind me to tell you the story about the boy who gave the girl a bag of potatoes as a gift and offered her blue azaleas as well.” Draco grinned at me with a mischievous look in his eye. I just felt that a joke had been made but it made no sense whatsoever to me. I was about to inquire about his odd remark when we came upon a goblin.
“We are here regarding the Malfoy finances, could you perhaps contact the chief goblin for us, here’s the master key to the vaults and a list of all the Malfoy properties,”said Draco.
We were quickly escorted to an office and told to wait for chief Griphook to come in. I felt a little jittery in the office. The office itself was adorned by very shiny things all over the place, ranging from armour to swords, from gems to rubies and diamonds. Perhaps the fact that goblins liked shiny things was not exaggerated enough. I looked around the room until I saw Draco’s silhouette swathed in the fireplace’s light as he leaned a hand on the mantle and gazed into the fire. I saw his eyes staring into the fire intently as if he was going through a very difficult ordeal internally. His muscles on his back looked extremely taught as he gazed into the fire. It was a fairly big step for him I thought, because so far he hasn’t done anything that would antagonize Voldemort much, but this action is the same as declaring war against him. I got up from my seat and made my way towards him. The slight rustle of my skirt drew his attention from the fire to me. I stretched my hand towards his shoulder when he turned and looked me in the eyes. I felt as if all the heat from the room had been sucked into me, my breathing pattern started to become slightly irregular. I think I can now relate to what people mean by the heart skipping a beat.
I halted my hand in its track as I suddenly felt afraid of the intensity that lay in his eyes. I slowly lowered my arm to return it to its original position before his hand shot out and caught my hand in his. He finally broke the eye contact and looked at our combined hands. I could feel the coldness of my hands and brought my second hand up to enclose his one hand in a vain effort to warm it. I squeezed his hand tightly and then looked up at him and offered him a tentative smile in support. He gave me a slight smirk in return, this one will always be a prat no matter what, muttered the asinine part of my brain. I smiled a little more at that remark from my mischievous self.
We don’t know how long we stood there in that position but it was in that position that chief Griphook found us and he had to clear his throat twice before he regained our attention.
“Now then Mr. Malfoy, how may I help you today?” asked Griphook without any pleasantries. Guess he has business to be about.
“Hello chief Griphook, I am here to transfer all of Malfoy properties under my name and to denounce my father from our family lineage and gain control of all our properties.”
The chief leaned back in his chair and regarded us from his elevate seats. I had to cringe my neck to be able to look at his face and see past his thick grey moustaches. I guess Professor Binns was not incorrect in stating that the next chief of goblins is based upon who inherits the moustache. Quite a barbarian way to choose some as chief actually, I thought to myself. I shook my head to dispel my thoughts and focus on the conversation between Draco and chief Griphook.
“I would be correct in assuming that you are Draco Abraxus Malfoy?” said the Chief in askance over his half moon spectacles while peering at Draco. Draco gave an affirmative nod and motioned for the Chief to go on. The Chief shuffeled a few papers on his desk and came up with one which had the ministry’s symbol embossed on it. “You are currently 17 years of age Mr. Malfoy, is that correct?” Draco nodded here once again. “Well at the age of 17 you have the right to challenge your head of house and become the Lord of your house as well, however such cases are unprecedented as this never usually happens Mr. Malfoy. If you proceed to go ahead with this you can possibly lose all your claim to the property regardless of the fact that you are the heir. Is this acceptable to you?” Draco nodded his affirmative again. The Chief shuffled his papers again and addressed Draco without looking at him. “While it is true that you have the right to challenge who is to be the head of household of your house, the procedure to go through this is through the goblins, and the question I wish to ask you is this, why should we both helping you position yourself as the head of your house? We have no qualms with the way in which things are being run. The Malfoy household properties are for us to manage and while managing them we seem to be making quite a bit of gold in interest as the amount that your family holds is very large. So if we are content in our current situation, why should we go out of our way in these dangerous times Mr. Malfoy?” The Chief pinned us under his gaze. I squirmed a little in my seat and looked towards Draco nervously.
Draco stared at the Chief for a few moments neither taking a breath or moving a muscle. He reached into his vest pocket and drew out a single parchment from within. He looked at the parchment for a minute or two and then looked up at the Chief who was curiously gazing at the parchment in his hand. Draco reached over and deposited the parchment on the Chief’s desk. The Chief looked at the parchment and then back at Draco. He gingerly picked up the parchment and looked at it passively. Before he even started to read the parchment he had begun to put it down on the desk only to come to a stop haltingly. The Chief’s eyes were bugging out of his head and were about to break his half moon spectacled glasses. He took a hold of the parchment with both his hand tightly. To Hermione, he looked like a man possessed. His eyes started reading the parchment extremely quickly and towards the finish he closed them and muttered a few inaudible words. The Chief carefully placed the parchment down on the desk and looked towards Draco. Draco promptly reached forward and plucked the parchment out of the Chief’s hands and folded it again and placed it in his vest. Draco folded his hands across his chest and looked at the chief.
“What is your purpose in showing me that young Malfoy,” snarled the Chief.
“Oh my purpose was not to tempt you for no reason Chief. You were asking me what your gain is to be in helping me attain my properties and placing me as the head of our household. Well chief, this is your silver lining, or I should say that me losing this stone is a disaster for me and attaining the properties is my silver lining. You Chief stand to benefit the most from this deal, as you have evidently seen. I will provide you with a fragment, the only fragment that we as humankind have been able to salvage from Rama’s Setu, or otherwise known as Adam’s Bridge here in the west.”
I stared at Draco as he mentioned Rama’s Setu. I stared at him as a few memories floated to surface in her mind. I remembered when in our 4th year, Professor McGonagall had explained to them how a man named Rama, who was said to have existed prior to Merlin, was not actually a man but God in the form of man. I remembered how a story regarding Rama was explained where he waged a war against a country because they had kidnapped his wife. Rama was cut off from the country as the country was an island and they had no means of crossing over the sea due to the violent currents. They had no wood to build a bridge either, what they did have was a bunch of stones, but stones would sink as they are a lot denser than water. It was at that point that Rama had shown his army to write his name on the stone and then toss it into the water, at which point the stone had promptly floated in the water. Encouraged by this, the army had built a bridge out of such floating stones and crossed over the bridge to rescue Rama’s wife. I remembered how the Professor had then shown them a picture of a stone that was neither smooth nor rough at first glance. It seemed to contain many colours but none at the same time as well. Even through its various properties, the word Rama could be seen clearly due to the stark contrast difference. The professor then went on to produce an excerpt from another book and in the excerpt, Merlin’s staff was described. Hermione remembered her excitement when she had first connected the fact that the source of power in Merlin’s staff was in fact the same stone that had once been part of Rama’s Setu. The professor explained that the stone on its own is powerless but in the right hands, the owner is actually able to call forth a huge amount of power, power that has not graced the world of magic since Merlin’s time. I looked at chief Griphook and Draco again and quickly stood up and pulled out the parchment from his pocket. I read over the deed explaining how the artefact came into the first Malfoy’s possession and how it had helped him build his fortune and pave his way as a leader in the Magical Community. The deed ended with, the defined stone lies in vault 786. I looked back up at Draco who was staring at me with a little smile on his face.
“Draco, no matter what happens you cannot give up this item to anyone! Merlin such power in the wrong hands could very well imbalance the world in itself. No Draco, the whole fortune in the world is not enough to compensate for how valuable this piece of rock is!” I said while my whole being was feeling shaken slightly.
“Well Chief, you have exactly a minute before I change my mind and don’t make this deal, as the argument that my friend Hermione seems to be making is starting to seem more and more legitimate with every second that passes.” Draco was rocking on his heel with a big smile on his face while looking at the chief.
I saw the chief lick his lips and look back at the piece of parchment in my hand. He looked back at me and I instinctively pulled the parchment towards my chest. It seemed he had made up his mind. I turned towards Draco and said “Please Draco don’t do this-”
“Done!” roared Chief Griphook. “By Merlin’s wispy beard, it is done Draco Abraxus Malfoy.” The chief put his hand out for Draco to shake. I grabbed a hold of Draco’s arm and mouthed a continuous stream of no’s towards him. Draco looked at me and patted my arm once and then reached the Chief’s hand and shook it firmly to end their bargain.
“Well then chief, how about we go down to our vault that contains the document necessary to change the heads of the family.”
The chief nodded towards them and asked them to follow him. They went outside the office and into the hall that lead into the dark caves of Gringotts. We got into a carriage and were vaulted off and had to hold onto each other lest we get thrown off into the darkness. We soon came to a stop and when we stepped off the carriage, the chief was chuckling. I looked askance at him when he pointed towards the vault number. The vault number was 786. The vault in which the papers for changing the head of household were contained was the same as the one in which the stone was held. The Chief handed Draco a silver knife and asked him to cut himself and place his hand over the door. Draco took the knife from him and made an incision diagonally across his palm and put it up on the door.
The door came alive instantly. It seemed that the door was being activated by blood magic as Draco’s arm was losing more blood as the intensity of the magic was increasing. Everything soon came to a stop and the colours on the door went stark bright before vanishing completely. An audible click was heard before the heavy door swung outwards on its own. Draco reached into his pocket and brought out a hand kerchief. I took the cloth from him and tied it tenderly around his hand. He silently mouthed thanks to me and strode into the vault with a confident gait.
Draco and I waited in the center of the vault, which looked empty at the moment until chief Griphook went to a wall and chanted something under his breath for an alcove to for m in the wall. Chief put his hands inside and brought out an old tome.
“This is the tome in which all your ancestors name’s are recorded. Your grandfather as well as your father’s names are listed in here as well. If you wish to become the next head of your household while the current house head still lives, either you need to kill him or you need to kick him out of the family. In your case you have decided to kick him out of the family, correct?”
Draco nodded his head and reached for the tome. He carried it to a stone platform in the middle of the vault and opened the dusty tomb. He ran his hands over the various names listed in the book and looked at the different pictures of all the Malfoy’s present. Under each of the dead Malfoy, their name as well as their accomplishment for which they were known was listed. Draco quickly went to his grandfather Cygnus Malfoy and was surprised to see that under accomplishments section, his grandfather had purchased Muggle Stocks. The first ever to buy anything Muggle. Draco wondered what that could be and thought that he would have to check it out. He quickly flipped a couple of pages until he was staring at his father’s picture.
I looked at the various emotions playing across Draco’s face as he flipped through his ancestors accomplishment. The emotions ranged from melancholy to sadness to downright amusement and ending with anger. I looked over to see who the current picture was and saw that it was Lucius Malfoy. The accomplishment section underneath was blank. I looked at Draco and heard him mutter, “Yep it will remain blank forever now.” Draco reached for the quill and took a deep breath. I noticed that there was no inkpot available. I looked at him with confusion he only pointed towards the parchment with his eyes. He quickly wrote down that Lucius Malfoy is denounced from the Malfoy family line due to his reckless behaviour that put the family name at risk. He then continued to cross Lucius’s picture 4 times in different directions. The ink colour that was seen on the parchment was red, it must be blood. Draco then went on to flip the page only to find himself looking at his own picture. He quickly mentioned his reasoning for taking the head position by force.
Soon enough the book was caught in a whirl of green and black smoke as the black smoke whirled and sapped into Lucius’s page and the green smoke was absorbed by Draco’s page. Draco’s dull page now mirrored his ancestor’s page, only Lucius stood out as a stork amongst crows. When the book had settled down I looked into the book again at Draco’s Picture. Beneath the picture, the listed accomplishment was “Take the head position from stupid Lucius by force.”
“Couldn’t my ancestors provide me some better accomplishments,” chuckled Draco. He looked at me and we both had big smiles on our faces. It was done. It was finally over. Draco strode over to the Chief and handed him the tome, which the chief replaced back into the alcove and backed away until nothing but the wall was seen again.
“Well that was pretty simple and straightforward,” I said.
“You want it to be simple Hermione, If my ancestors would have not abided by my situation, then they would have used every single hex and jinx they knew to make sure that we would be incapacitated for the rest of our lives. It is their way of protecting the current worthy household. And my ancestors know some pretty dark stuff.”
I laughed a little at his poor taste of humour. We were both marvelling in the moment with each other when a throat being cleared was heard from behind.
“Why don’t we move onto the next piece of business Mr. Malfoy, I would like the stone deed from you now if you would be so kind.” Said the Chief with his crooked smile.
I looked at Draco and felt a ball of dread form in my stomach, this was the moment that she wanted to avoid the most. Draco reached into his pocket and handed the deed over to the Chief. As soon as the Chief got the deed he started waving it up in the air and bounced on his two stubby legs while capering about in a circle. I watched on sullenly as he did his little happy dance.
“Tell me Chief, doesn’t Gringotts consist of all of Malfoy Properties” said Draco.
The Chief stopped doing his dance routine and looked at Draco and said jovially “Why yes Mr. Malfoy yes it does. We hold all of Malfoy Properties in our vaults and they are as safe as they can be here.”
“Oh that is fantastic Chief, but personally I don’t like the fact that all of my eggs are kept in one basket, perhaps it would be better for me to move some of my properties into Asging’s bank in Germany.”
The Chief frowned at this and looked at Draco before saying “Mr. Malfoy, Gringotts is the safest place in all of magical nations perhaps. Your properties and gold will be the safest here, you have my word on that.”
“Oh I don’t doubt your word Chief, it’s just that what with Voldemort back on the rise in Britain and what not, I just don’t feel all secure with my money being in a place where Voldemort has some influence. You know what maybe I should move all of my properties to Asging’s bank.”
The chief was looking downright nervous at this point “But Mr. Malfoy if you do that then the economy of Britain will severely be disturbed. Malfoy properties account for upto 60% of Gringott’s total amount. If a bank were to lose 60% of all their assets, then it would be impossible for us to function properly. It is too sudden a change for us Mr. Malfoy. Please reconsider you decision.”
“I wish I could Chief, but I just don’t feel comfortable here anymore. And yes I can understand how this can impact the economy in a negative manner, but I just can’t help it now can I. After all I am only one man and as a man I have to look after my legacy. No sorry I cannot reconsider my decision Chief. And I know this will be a big loss for Gringotts, imagine the goblins in the front dealing with panicked bankers when the bankers find out through the news that Malfoy’s have pulled out of Gringotts due to safety concerns. It would be a really sad day for this bank indeed. And if rumour is to be believed than the Chief of Asging’s bank has had his eye on Gringotts for a while. I can see how it would be difficult for Gringotts to survive and the person under whose watch the bank went under, would be you. I can only sympathise with you situation.” Draco leaned down and patted the Chief’s shoulder who at this point had started sweating profusely. Perhaps that joke about Ron’s socks smelling like a sweaty goblin were true.
“It would be bad for the economy Chief. I mean think about it if Draco here pulls out of the bank, then Harry Potter my best friend will probably pull out as well and he is actually in control of both the Black and Potter household properties. How much do they account to, would you know by any chance Chief?” I looked at the chief while clapping my hand together to add a little extra effect. I don’t know what Draco was doing, but I guess playing along can’t hurt. This intuition proved spot on when Draco winked at me and gave me a slight grin.
“Mr. Malfoy you do not have to switch banks. You can place your full faith in us sir, we will protect you wealth at the cost of our lives. Is there nothing that I can do to prove it to you?”
Hook, line, and sinker. Draco had the Chief exactly where he wanted. He leaned down towards the Chief and looked him in the eye and said “Well Chief, I am willing to reconsider if you show me that you goblins at this bank are willing to sacrifice something.”
“Name it Mr. Malfoy, We are willing to even sacrifice our lives for your patronage.” Said the Chief enthusiastically as he saw that he had a chance to bring the young Malfoy about.
“No no there is no need to do something as drastic Chief. I would just like you as the chief to sacrifice something precious. Something such as the stone’s deed that you hold in your hand.” Said Draco while giving his sweetest smile possible.
I put a hand across my mouth to cover up my smile from showing through. It seems that Draco was planning this from the start and had done his research correctly. This was Draco’s slytherin manners at its finest, maybe it was something for her to watch out for in the future.
“Bu-bu-bu-t this stone is priceless, no amount of money can be enough for this stone!” yelled the Chief.
“Well Chief, the decision is yours, what’s it going to be?”
Ten minutes later Draco and I were walking out of the bank with the deed secure in our pocket. “Where are you going to lead me now my gallant slytherin sire” I asked in my most cheeky voice.
Draco reached into his pocket and pulled out a gold watch. He promptly put his hand around my waist and said “The next stop is the land where dreams are realized. America.”
The hassled Chief’s head at the top of Gringotts bank looking down at us was the last thing I saw before I was sucked into a warp hole created by the portkey.

And that is the end of the 6th chapter. Already started working on the 7th chapter, but it will take me a while to upload it as I am in the middle of preparing for my MCATs lol and the date for the exam is coming ever closer.
