Chapter 6

I woke up late the next day, I heard dad talking to someone outside my window. There Severus and Lucius were sitting at the picnic table. They must have been waiting for me to make sure I could run away again. Wonderful, I climbed down and quickly got a bowl of cereal to eat and went outside.

            “Good Moring.” I said. “Sorry I wasn’t here to greet you; do you want anything to drink?” I was trying to be a good host even though I just wanted them to leave. I knew last night I promised myself that I would go and see them but it took a lot to convince me to do that and my courage was gone now.

            “No Mandy we just came to talk with you. Your dad said you weren’t awake yet and we began to talk. How are you?” Lucius said.

            “I’m fine thank you and you?” I said with a slight pause then “Where’s Remus?” I looked around and didn’t see him.

            “He is back at the house he wanted to make lunch for us if you wish to join us.” Lucius replied

            “I...” I didn’t know what to say. Sure I was eating cereal right now but that wouldn’t fill me when it got to lunch time. How late was it? I looked at my watch it was only 11:00. It would be an early lunch. “Not hungry” I finally finished.

            “That’s ok he won’t be done for a while now. He’s trying something new so I don’t know how edible it will be. So it’s a good think you’re not hungry.” Severus muttered.

            “Mandy you should go with them they told me that you were telling them a story that you should finish. Have fun today just be home for supper.” My dad said. I wish he didn’t I was till avoiding them though it was amazing to be around them again, it felt strange. We walked back to their cabin in silence. They knew that I’m avoiding them I didn’t know when they would demand answers

            “Mandy, we didn’t get to see you yesterday. Is everything ok?” Remus greeted me.

            “Yeah, I just went rock climbing with my mom I was late for it when I came back from the ranger station.” I said, it wasn’t a complete lie but it also wasn’t the truth.

            “Please don’t lie to us.” Severus said. I said nothing but felt a bit guilty. “Why have you been avoiding us?” I remained silence. “Mandy!” He was more forceful this time.

            “I don’t want to talk about it. It was stupid and immature of me sorry.”

            “Did we do something wrong?” Remus asked.

            “No, you didn’t do anything.” I said softly, it wasn’t quite a lie they didn’t do anything. It was there words. I was beginning to realize how stupid it was. I sighed and said “When Lucius said that he didn’t want to see me that night I felt rejected for an unknown reason and then the obvious dismissal from Severus only reinstated that I was not welcome. I told you it was stupid sorry.”

            “We didn’t want to reject you but we thought that you needed time with your family and Severus was taking your rejection this morning personally.” Lucius said. “Come here.” I went to him as his arms as he held me “I’m sorry Mandy.”

            It felt amazing to be held in his arms. It was like I was beginning to be complete.

            “I’m cooking lunch for us. I was thinking of doing garlic bread, pasta and salad.” Remus said “But I’m cooking on a stove and trying to light a fire.”

            I began to laugh and just couldn’t stop “Let… me check.” I gasped out. I looked into the wood area of the stove slowly calming down. “Did you open the flue?”

            “Floo? Traveling by fire?” He asked.

            “No, sorry we are not that fancy. The flue is a trap door that is in the back that opens up the wood stove to the outside. It’s on the fireplace as well if it’s open then the smoke can get out. If it’s closed then the house will be filed with smoke.”

            “Yeah, I found that out already.”

            “You smoked out the house, wow you got rid of it quickly.” I said looking around.

            “I used magic. Just a little bit Severus. Don’t give me that look.” He said as Severus gave him a look.

            “I’m sure that it’s ok and that no one noticed anything.” I smiled at him. “Lets see if we can get this fire set. Now if you reach back you will find a lever pull it.” I said and push him a bit to the stove. “Ok let’s just hope you got it right,” I continued “now put some wood on the bottom. Then a layer if newspaper, wood paper etc. Make sure that your final layer if newspaper with some small sticks to help start the fire. Then light the paper start at the back and work you way up to little bits in corners. Then put on a few more twigs and blow lightly to make sure it catches. Got it?”

            He got to work, it was hilarious to watch after about six matches he was about to give up. “Ok I’m just going to light it with magic.”

            “Oh no you don’t you almost go it and if you use magic I will have to leave unless you want me gone.” I said teasing.

            “No” He responded forcefully grabbing me around the waist and hugged me to him. “I didn’t see you all day yesterday and you have to tell us the rest of the story.”

            “I will have to make up for the other day, I’ll tell you two years today. One before lunch and one tonight if that is ok. You can say no I know that I was stupid last time.”

            “We would always love you to stay, maybe you can invite your parents.” Lucius said.

            “I think they would like that. Oh look you got it going. Now just check on it periodically to make sure it’s still going and you can get some things started. You have cooked Muggle style before right?”

            “Yes Mandy I have just never on a wood stove.”

            “Humm yell if you need help I don’t want this cabin burning down or you chopping off a finger, or burning your hand. Now that I think about it maybe I should cook.”

            “Mandy, I will do fine and I want to cook you lunch.”

            “Awww how sweet of you, you’re willing to risk your life for me.” I joked, “fine I’ll just put a chair in the door way and tell you all about Harry’s fourth year. It started off Harry having a dream of Voldemort killing the old caretaker of the Riddle Manor which was suppose to be abandoned for a while. He wakes up and the Weasley take him to the World Quidditch Cup. Later that night death eaters came and ruin the party. Harry ran into the woods where he met up with Winky Mr. Crouches newly dismissed house elf. He sees someone cast Morsmordre spell using Harry’s wand and put his mark in the sky.

            “The new defense against the dark arts professor was Alastor Moody or Mad-Eye Moody. Hermione creates an idea about free house elves called S.P.E.W which led from the release of Dobby. Not everyone was happy with this including the house elves but she didn’t seem to care. For the first class Professor Moody teaches the class about the Unforgivable Curses. This shook up a few students.

“After the first month of school there are two new schools that came to Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament, Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. The Triwizard Tournament is a set of three dangerous tasks that one student from each school is chosen from the triwizard cup to compete. The one what completes the tournament with the best score wins money and glory. There is an age limit of 17 there was an aging line around the goblet which caused some very funny results of tested with like rapid aging. The champions are Cedric Diggory from Hogwarts, Victor Krum from Durmstrang, and Fleur Delacour from Beauxbatons. The goblet then spit out one last name Harry Potter this caused an up roar but he participated anyways after a lot of talk with the judges and other heads of the schools. Ron thinks that Harry deliberately put his name in the goblet even though it is impossible to do and Harry insisted that he didn’t. Ron stopped talking to Harry after that. An annoying reporter Rita Skeeter interviews the champions and slanders what they tell them.

“Later that month Hagrid calls Harry out for a walk in the woods and shows Harry dragons which are the first task. He warns Cedric and the race to find out how to defeat a dragon begins. It is getting close to the time for the first task and Harry still hasn’t found a way to defeated it. Sirius using the floo to warn Harry about Karkaroff, the headmaster of Durmstrang, being a death eater. Draco and Harry got into a little fight because Draco and you had a bet about how long he would last against the dragon. Professor Moody changes him into a bouncing ferret. Which I would love to see in real life I think it would be hilarious. Moody called Harry to his office to talk to him about getting past the dragon and recommends using his broom to fly. He and Hermione learn the Accio spell to call his broom.

“The first task was to capture the golden egg that the dragon was guarding. He succeeds after the dragon broke free form his chain and chased him all over Hogwarts and until he is knocked unconscious trying to get through an to small opening. They have to use the egg to figure out the next clue. Time passes and the Yule Ball is announced. Harry asks Cho Chang who is already going with someone he ends up going with the Parvati. More time passes but every time Harry tried to open the egg it only made a screaming sound. Cedric tells him to bring it to the Perfect bathroom. Myrtle helps harry by telling him to put it under the water and it sings a song with clues on what the next task is. He has to find a way to breathe underwater for an hour. He will be in the lake looking for something special to him. Neville comes up with Gillyweed a Herbology plant that worked in fresh water lakes. The second tournament came and the person he has to save was Ron. He is the first person to get to the captured people and he waits down there to make sure that everyone was saved. There was Hermione, Ron, Cho, and a girl he didn’t know. Hermione was saved and Cho but the girl never was. So he saved both of them.

“Thanks to Sirius Harry now can go to Hogsmead on the weekends and he meets up with Sirius. They get a bit more information about the death eaters through Sirius especially Mr. Crouch’s son. Harry finds Mr. Crouch in the forest dead. After having another vision from Voldemort Harry looks into Dumbledore’s Pensieve and sees Sirius trial when he gives names of known Death Eaters. One which happens to be Mr. Crouch Sr. son.

“The third task comes around which happens to be a maze that has scary deadly animals and magical events in it. The goal is to get to the center of the maze and find the Goblet of Fire, but things go wrong when Krum is under the Imperius Curse and gets rid of Delacour from the race. He almost kills Harry only to see that it is him and goes after Cedric. They both stop him and see the goblet at the same time. Harry says that they should touch it at the same time so that they both win.

“Unfortunately the goblet is a Portkey and takes them to a graveyard where Voldemort come with Wormtail or Peter Pettigrew who kills Cedric. He tarps Harry and takes some of his blood so that Voldemort can come back life. Now that he had some of Harry’s blood he could touch Harry without getting hurt. He calls his Death Eaters to him and makes his usual boring long speech then challenges Harry to a duel. Something happens that they both didn’t expect and their wands fused together. Ghost like figures of all of the people that Voldemort killed came out of his wand and talked to Harry. They also gave Harry enough time to get back to the Portkey and escape.

“When he gets back he informs everyone that Voldemort is back and Professor Moody takes Harry away back to his office. He slips in his cover and asked what it was like being in front of his present when it happened and if it hurt. Sorry but I can’t see why anyone was want to follow that mad man it seem like a suicide statement and just miserable. I don’t mean to insult you or anything but ewww. Anyways Moody who ends up being Crouch Jr. tries to kill Harry. But Dumbledore and Severus come in time to stop him. They question him under the Veritaserum if I am saying that right and finds the real Moony in a chest. There is a ceremony for Cedric’s death and you find out the reporter is an anamigus.”

“Well that’s a rather interesting version of events. It’s not that wrong either. We need to explain the World Cup for start. There were Death Eaters that followed what he said without question. He was still crazy then and they were just following orders. Draco actually invited them to sit with them during the match and they all had a wonderful time since they spent most of the beginning of the summer forgiving him. I could not be happier.” Lucius said. “Only now I heard about how perfect Hermione is.”

“The bouncing ferret was actually very amusing and something that is a sore spot of his for a while now. He was only joking about the betting but Moody thought he was serious. Yet the others will always tease and joke about it. If we had a pensive here I would show it to you.” Severus added.

“Thank you I’m sure it was great. I have an odd question.”

“Yes.”

“Can I see you wands?”

“I was wondering when you would ask that.” Remus pulled his wand out of his sleeve and handed it to me.

“You mean I can touch it?” He nodded “Wow, the woods almost warm sort of alive. I never thought magic would feel like that or have any feeling at all. It seem simple yet not. Thank you, you might want to check the bread though a wood oven doesn’t heat as evenly as one I’m sure your use to using. You don’t want it to burn and you might want to move it around to get parts of the bread that’s not cooked done and part that is away from the heat. Use a hot pad to not burn yourself. Severus do you have burn stuff just in case?”

“I do the minute Remus had the crazy idea to go to a Muggle camp site I made extras of the common potions.” he said laughing as Remus pouted.

“There is one last thing about the story that is different when Harry is kidnapped that was his first attempt to tell Voldemort that he is crazy and to talk some sense into him. I do have to say that he wasn’t that successful but Voldemort did listen some to what he was saying though. It also got some of the other death eaters thinking. It was the first time that I considered contacting Harry to talk to him about his ideas. I wouldn’t do that until that summer though.” Lucius said.

Lunch was done soon after and the conversation over lunch was about Severus and his past. I found out that his dad was a Muggle and his mom a witch he lived near Lily’s house which is how they both met. He was always a quiet boy who loved to read and learn. Lucius stuck up for him in Slytherin and they became friends an soon more. They were dating before Remus came into the picture which was helpful for him. Remus didn’t have to worry about his mates not liking each other. He just had to work around jealously during the wooing processes. I was sure that it would have been funny to watch the whole processes.

After a bit of silence as I pictured how the wooing might have gone I got sad. I never was wooed by anyone and didn’t have that many boyfriends in my nineteen years. Don’t get me wrong I did date but only had a few and was one of those rare cases of still being a virgin. Not that I was ashamed of that I just would have like to experience someone who really tried to impress me and loved me. I mean I never even got flowers from anyone.

“Mandy, what’s wrong? You suddenly got quiet and seem sad.” Remus said.

“Oh I’m fine. I just realized how much fun it would be to have someone try and woo me. I never had a boyfriend who took the time to do that. Most guys don’t seem that interested for some reason.”

“I wonder why. You are a very attractive girl if I may say so without crossing any boundaries and you’re very nice and funny. It’s hard for me to imagine boys not falling over each other to be with you.” Lucius said.

“Ha, yeah that has never happened. My last boyfriend broke up with me two years ago with no explanation as to why. Boy that’s one thing I don’t think I will ever understand. Maybe you guys can help. Why do guys do that?”

“That is something that I don’t think can be explained.” Severus said, “Though if we do anything confusing tell us and we will try to clarify it.”

“Yeah, I guess not very good at that. I think girls are not suppose to understand boy and vice versa. Thanks for lunch Remus, it was surprisingly good from what Lucius was saying I was scared of what I would get.”

“Your leaving?” Remus asked

“Yes I don’t want to over stay my welcome like you said it is a family vacation. I’m sure you want sometime alone.”

“We were actually going to go swimming if you want to join us. We had all day yesterday to spend time together. Funny you were the main conversation though.”

“Oh? I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you worry. I would love to go swimming. Let me get changed.”
