Secret Affair: Love and Despair
Chapter 6: It's a Love Thing
February was here causing excitement and romance to bloom amongst the students of Hogwarts. Love letters, stuttered proposals, and poorly written poems popped up everywhere. Couples displayed deeper affection and singles whined about their lack of love lives. To liven the atmosphere and give off the feelings of this time of year, the Great Hall was decorated in pinks, reds and whites. Floating pink hearts and cupids fluttered above the heads of the many students as they dinned.
Xavia pushed down a camera revealing the face of the boy she considered her brother, “guess what?”
“Um... you are mad at me,” he chuckled nervously.
“Nope, can't break my mood today,” she grinned, “I just found out that I'm free Valentine's day. I know you were complaining on having nothing to do. Now, you get to go with me to Hogsmeade!”
Colin blinked once, twice, then three times before her meaning caught up to him and he smiled, wrapping her up in a hug that lifted her from the floor and twirled with her, “you truly want to spend that day with me?”
“Your my brother, who else would I want to spend such a loving day with,” she asked with a bright smile from her spot in his arms above him.
“We will have the best day, ever,” he grinned back at her, letting her slip down to her feet before planting a kiss on her cheek.
“Don't forget me,” Ginny laughed, “Harry will be busy with Ron and Hermione!”
Colin leaned over and kissed her cheek, crushing her to his chest, “this is amazing news. It truly warms my heart.”
Xavia laughed, “you are so excitable.”
“I am excited,” he nodded eagerly, “now you guys can help me find a way to ask out the girl I like.”
“Oh, Colin,” the girls exclaimed.
“We will do our best,” Ginny vowed.
“This is the second best day ever, Valentine's will be the first,” Xavia promised.
“Well, what do we have here,” a dark voice drifted from behind them.
The three spun on their feet to see Theodore Nott standing there with a crooked grin on his face. His eyes shinned with amusement, and they knew it would be at their expense. Thankfully, he was alone, as he always tended to be. He was truly very cocky to take on three Gryffindors without any backup in sight.
“What do you want, Nott,” Ginny asked with disdain dripping from every word.
Theodore's grin spread wider and he chuckled, “never thought you would get a backbone, Weasley.”
“That doesn't answer the question,” Colin hissed.
The girls cursed their luck when they noticed Draco and Blaise cresting the dungeon stairs. It was a good thing for them that the Great Hall doors were shut, not allowing the students within know what was happening just outside in the Entrance Hall.
“Even the weak little Creevey is trying to act tough,” he out right laughed, “don't worry, I won't harm your precious girlfriends.”
Xavia scowled, “how original! Didn't you and your house try to pin something as ludicrous as this on Hermione? Just because a guy or girl shows affection for someone of the opposite sex doesn't mean they are dating!”
“Did I not just hear that you three planned to make Valentine's day the 'best day ever',” he snickered.
Ginny narrowed her eyes, “mind your own business, Nott. What we do or say has nothing to do with you.”
“It might have anything to do with me, but it gives me great rumours to start. If you don't want your precious reputation being tarnished, you shouldn't act like such a whore,” Theodore sneered.
“Ginny, no,” Xavia pushed down the arm Ginny was now holding her wand in, “he isn't worth it!”
“You better watch your mouth,” Colin snapped.
“What, Creevey, don't want anyone to know that you are shagging two girls who are already taken,” he taunted.
“Merlin,” Xavia huffed as she wrestled with a struggling Ginny, trying to keep the girl from lifting her wand, “ignore him, Gin!”
So distracted was she, she didn't notice Colin pull his wand and send off a hex. Theodore easily produced his wand and blocked the spell. It bounced harmlessly away. The Slytherin seethed in anger that such a weak muggle-born would dare draw his wand against him. His snapped a pain spell, sending it straight at the startled Gryffindor.
“DENNIS, NO,” Ginny and Xavia screamed as the younger boy raced down the stairs and jumped in front of his brother.
His small body landed hard against the ground, his scream of agony ripping through the air. Xavia's wand was out in a flash, lifting the spell and firing a binding spell at Theodore. His body tensed as all his muscled constricted and his body fell with a loud crash against the ground.
“Get out of here,” Xavia turned to her friend ,”go! The teachers will be here any minute!”
Colin knelt and picked up his whimpering brother, “what about you?”
“I'll explain what happened, get him to the infirmary,” she waved them off, “you too, Ginny, I don't need you getting angry and attacking Nott.”
Ginny nodded in agreement and took off with Colin. Xavia turned back and ran her hand through her hair.
“You know,” she squatted next to the prone body, “it was rather stupid of you to attack three fully trained Gryffindors with no back up.”
Unable to respond his words merely came out as a grunt, his eyes glaring holes into her head.
“You got what you deserved,” she shrugged, “after all, I've seen you get worse then what I pulled on you.”
“Are you going to let him go,” Draco asked hauntingly as he sauntered over.
“No, are you,” she glanced up from the boy on the floor.
“Well, we can't let you hurt our house mate,” Blaise shrugged nonchalantly.
“I won't hurt him,” she put her wand away, “I'm merely waiting for the teachers to explain what happened.”
“And taunting him when he can't reply,” Draco raised an eyebrow.
“Well, if you rather I go, I will, but you will end up having to explain everything,” she snickered, standing up and moving a couple steps back to keep from giving him a view up her skirt.
“Don't you even think about it,” he snapped, “this is all on you two. I'm not getting expelled for either of you.”
Snape strode from the hall, a look of disapproval on his face, “what happened here?”
It was a very long evening. In the end, the Gryffindors got twenty five points taken from each and a week worth of detention. Theodore got fifty points from Slytherin and two weeks of detention for instigating a fight and using an improper spell. Their only consolation was still being allowed to attend Hogsmeade on Valentine's day. Draco and Blaise received no punishment, just a reprimanding for not stepping in and stopping their house mate.

“Valentine's,” Xavia sung happily as they entered Hogsmeade.
“It's such a beautiful day,” Ginny exclaimed appearing beside her.
“And this day is all for us,” Colin excitedly claimed, wrapping an arm around each girls' waist.
“What should we do first,” the blonde looked around with gusto.
“We need sweets,” Ginny stated, “it is the day that everyone eats a bunch of candy!”
“Chocolate,” Xavia and Colin cried out at the same time.
“Let's go,” the redhead impatiently dragged her friends toward the shop.
They walked in, staring in hungry awe at all the different confections. Splitting up, they gathered bags and filled them with whatever caught their eye. They regrouped and paid for their treats. Walking from the shop with silly smiles on their faces that spoke of true and honest happiness.
“Oh man, Gin,” Xavia moaned, “you have to try this.”
“Try what,” the redhead barely got the words out of her mouth before a piece of chocolate was placed on her tongue.
Colin laughed, “you should have warned her first instead of just shoving it in her mouth!”
“Watch it, or your next,” she grinned mischievously.
“That was amazing,” Ginny gasped after she finally swallowed, “what was that?”
“I don't know,” the blonde chuckled nervously, “I just threw whatever I could touch in the bag and went with it.”
“You are crazy,” Colin shook his head with a laugh.
“I like candy okay,” she huffed dramaticly.
“Not to worried about your womanly figure, are you Johnston,” a mirthful male voice came up behind them.
“What do I need to worry about such trivial things for,” Xavia shrugged, “mind your own business, Zabini.”
“No need to get all defensive,” Draco stated, the duo walking around the three blocking the exit of the candy shop.
Ginny rolled her eyes, “anyone with sense would know that Xavia is already self-conscious enough as it is. If you two are through being arses, we will be moving on now.”
“Don't listen to them, Vi,” Colin told her tenderly, “you are beautiful, no matter how much you do or do not weight.”
The frown was heard clearly in her voice, “if you say so.”
“Oh, no you don't,” Ginny slid up beside her, “you will not do what I know you are thinking of doing! We just spent so much money on that candy and no matter what you say, you are eating it.”
“And, before you start backing out of it, we are taking pictures today,” Colin insisted, “today is our day! No one will ruin it!”
“I didn't let Nott calling me a whore get to me,” Ginny pointed out, “even if it hurt. Just let it go.”
“Okay,” Xavia cried out, “okay! I get it! Enough being stupid, let's go do something fun!”
Colin looked around, “oh I know! Let's go see how Fred and George's new shop here is doing!”
Ginny nodded ecstatically, “I can't believe they were already able to open a second store here!”
“You think they are there,” Xavia asked, bouncing on her heels.
“I think so,” Ginny grinned.
“What are we waiting for? I haven't seen them in forever!”
“Summer wasn't that long ago,” Colin rolled his eyes, following after his friends.
“To her, even a couple days is too long,” Ginny laughed.
Xavia burst into WWW, startling several students milling about. She ignored them and made a beeline for the twin redheads standing behind the counter. Expertly she jumped over it and threw herself at the unsuspecting boys. With an 'umph' the three tumbled into a heap on the floor. Ginny and Colin stopped at the counter, laughing at the wiggling mass of bodies on the other side.
“It's good to see you too,” Fred squirmed his way out from under his brother and Xavia.
“You could have warned us,” George wheezed.
“Sorry,” she grunted, pulling herself off of him, “I got overly excited.”
“So,” Fred looked over the group, “what are you three doing today?”
George looked confused, “shouldn't you two be with your boyfriends?”
“They are busy today,” Ginny shrugged.
“And that doesn't bother you?”
Xavia sighed, “there isn't any use getting upset and ruining our day. Plus, we have Colin!”
Colin shook his head, “they shouldn't be alone today, they deserve to have fun and I just happened to be without a date. It couldn't have worked out better.”
“Besides the detention I heard you guys got,” Fred pinned Ginny with a stern look.
“Nott started it,” she protested, “he called me a whore! And tried to used a pain curse on Colin, which ended up hitting Dennis instead!”
“That dirty rotten,” George started to swear, cut off only by Fred's hand covering his mouth.
“Well, you handled the situation better then we or Ron would have,” Fred sighed.
“Okay,” Xavia pushed the twins gently on the shoulder, “enough of this talk. I want to have fun!”
“We can't leave the shop, but you are more then welcome to sample the products, “ George gestured to the store.
“You know what I need,” the blonde said softly, “a new spell for my hair. I'm tired of black, brown or blonde. Hey! I wanna try red hair!”
“We can certainly do that,” Fred grabbed her hand and drug her into the back room.
“Where is he taking her,” Ginny watched the two leave.
George smiled secretively, “can't tell you that Ginny-girl. Let's go check out some of our new products.”
Fifteen minutes later, Xavia returned with a proud Fred. Her hair now a brilliant shade of dark red. She tugged on the locks with a large smile.
“So, what do you think,” Fred drew their attention.
“Oh wow,” Colin gasped, “you're hair looks amazing!”
“Well the twins have some amazing potions! Sadly this will be gone by tomorrow morning, but I love it! I just have to learn the red dye spell now,” she grinned.
The trio spent the morning with the twins, only parting when they deemed it necessary for a lunch break. Laughing loudly the three entered the Three Broomsticks and took a table near the back. They ordered their food and a round of butter beer. A few tables over, Harry, Ron and Hermione were enjoying their day with Wyatt and a couple other Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs.
“We are studying tomorrow before detention, right,” Colin glanced at his friends.
“I have so much homework,” Xavia mumbled.
“I know what you mean,” Ginny groaned, “I can't believe how much they are piling on us!”
“You know something,” the blonde turned redhead piped up, “I always tend to get in trouble with Snape.”
“It's like he knows when we are doing something wrong and comes running,” Colin said ominously.
“You know what it is, it's unnatural with how often we are on his bad side,” Ginny stated.
“To think he is my favourite teacher and potions is my favourite subject,” Xavia dramaticly sighed.
“You are crazy,” the two chorused.
Their food was placed before them and they ate in comfortable silence. They cleaned their plates and leaned back in their chairs in content.
“You know,” Ginny started, “we always seem to have the best days when we are together.”
“One big family,” Colin grinned.
“Speaking of family,” Xavia turned to the brunette, “how's Dennis?”
“Better,” he stated, “the spell didn't have any lasting effects so he is completely fine now. Just a little skittish around the Slytherins.”
“He was very brave,” Ginny smiled sadly, “but he shouldn't have jumped in the way like that.”
“He is a Gryffindor after all,” Colin sighed, “mum and dad are not happy in the least. They won't ground us when we get home, but I'm sure we are in for a very long lecture.”
“What can you do,” Xavia shrugged, “things happen, people lose their tempers and wands are usually drawn. Thankfully we have adults to paddle our behinds when we let stupid things happen.”
“Or unjustly punishing us,” Ginny grumbled.
“We could have walked away you know,” Xavia pointed out.
Colin laughed, “when have Gryffindors ever walked away in the face of danger.”
“He is right,” Ginny chuckled, “we never back down when we should.”
“What a great flaw to have,” Xavia shook her head, “oh well, no point in dwelling on it. Detention shouldn't be to bad with the two of you there with me.”
“You two ready to go finish the day,” Colin asked.
“Let's go,” the girls sang happily, each grabbing one of his hands and dragging him from the diner.
They spent the rest of the afternoon window shopping. Lucky for them not a single bad thing happened, leaving them in a state of pure bliss by the time the carriages were pulling the students back to the castle. They had just made it into the Entrance Hall when Xavia felt a presences behind her. Warm breath tickled her neck and her nose filled with the smell of sandalwood, spices and musk.
“Can we talk,” Blaise whispered in her ear.
Xavia scanned around her, making sure no one saw before she nodded in consent. Blaise headed down the stairs first and after a couple seconds she snuck off after him. The door to their usual classroom was open. As she stepped in front of it a dark hand struck out grabbing her by the wrist and dragged her in. She stumbled, slamming hard into Blaise. Groaning in mild pain, she pulled back to look up at him.
“What is wrong,” she asked softly.
“I'm sorry,” Blaise told her, helping her sit on the edge of a desk.
“What for?”
He wrapped his arms around her and crushed her to his chest, “I did not mean to hurt your feelings. I was simply teasing.”
Xavia blinked in confusion, “what are you... oh, you mean the sweets thing... It's okay. I know you didn't mean it. I'm just a little sensitive about my body, that's all.”
“I'm still sorry,” he kissed her neck softly.
She moaned, “you are forgiven.”
His hands urgently began to disrobe her, wanting to worship her body to dispel any lingering thoughts she might have about him not liking it. She groaned under the attention and returned it in kind. Their lips locked in a furious battle. They broke apart for air and pulled each other's shirts off, not bothering with the many buttons. The rest of their clothes fell off just as easily. When all skin was finally visible, their robes and other garments scattered haphazardly around them, they calmed taking their time to simply enjoy each other.

Colin turned around when Xavia stopped participating in their conversation. He swore he caught sight of her red dyed hair fleeing down the dungeon steps. Ginny didn't notice that neither of her friends weren't with her, she merely continued on heading off to the common room with her dorm mates. He shrugged and bound down into the stone hallways of the dungeon. After that fight with Nott, he was not willing to let his friends wander alone into enemy territory. Though he couldn't be certain it was her, he had to at least look for himself.
He wondered through the halls and stopped when he reached the potions classroom. Nervously, he looked around. He had never wandered pasted this point. Steeling his nerves he continued, walking at a slow and steady pace. An uneasy feeling built in his stomach, he was wondering into uncharted territories. With every new step it felt like he was one more step closer to be caught. It wasn't like he was somewhere he could get in trouble for being, but he was sure the Slytherins wouldn't hold back if they found him there, alone.
After several minutes, he deemed himself delusional and began heading back. The sound of muffled talking drifted to his ears. He strained to hear, but he couldn't quiet tell who it belonged too. Curiously he followed the sounds and pressed his ear to the door he believed them to be coming from. One voice was very feminine and the other masculine, but that was all he could tell, someone had obviously placed a very sloppy silencing charm on the room.
A moan came loud enough for him to understand the word, “Blaise.”
Colin couldn't stop the grin that spread across his face. This was too good to be true. He very slowly pushed open the door and peaked in. His smile grew when he saw the compromising position the dark skinned Slytherin was in. Quickly he pulled his camera from his cloak and turned off the flash. He snapped a picture and backed out of the room without a sound.
He might not have found his friend, but he certainly found something even better.

Blaise slumped against her, exhausted at the drawn out session of, in his opinion, love making. Xavia wrapped him up in her arms and nuzzled his neck. He smiled lovingly wanting nothing more then to be able to fall asleep here with her. Glancing nervously at the clock he was happy to find it was only six thirty, they had one and a half hours till curfew. Xavia giggled, tickling his skin with her breath.
“If this is how you will apologise every time you openly insult me in public, I think you should do it more often.”
Blaise chuckled, “how about we do this more often, without the insults.”
“Hm,” she murmured against his chest, “that works too.”
“So, I'm truly forgiven,” he asked concerned.
“I know you didn't mean it,” Xavia leaned back and caressed his lips lightly with her own, “you are more then forgiven.”
“Tomorrow is Sunday, are you spending the day with Colin?”
“Yes and my detentions start tomorrow too.”
“You have detention a lot.”
“Snape likes to catch me at the wrong time, a lot,” she dead-panned.
Blaise snickered, “you just like to be at the wrong place at the right time.”
Xavia playfully glared at him, “of course.”
Comfortable silence settled over them as their hands gently touched and trailed across each other's skin. Every now and again she would giggle and twitch when his fingers hit a sensitive spot. Blaise pressed his lips against her's. She responded by opening her mouth and allowing him to deepen the kiss. He tasted of chocolate and cinnamon. She savoured his taste, moaning softly in his mouth. They pulled away, leaning their foreheads together and panting trying to fill their starving lungs.
“When will I see you if you have detention all the time?”
She grinned against his neck, “maybe I can sneak away during my free hour. Wyatt might not notice. We have been spending the time studying with a couple of his other friends and he doesn't really notice me.”
“What happened to all the romantic dates and things he use to take you on,” Blaise opened his eyes, watching her carefully.
“I think he is just enjoying his last year of school here. You know? He realizes that after this year he might not see them again and he wants to spend all the time he can with them. He always throws in some time spent with me, but not as much since we stopped having sex.”
“Wait,” his eyes widened, “when did that happen.”
“Um... five months ago,” she whispered
“But, that's when we started...”
“Yeah.”
“Why?”
“Umm... well... I,” she paused, desperately trying to figure out why her and Wyatt had stopped having sex.
Nothing between them had changed, they acted completely the same. They laughed and joked, talked and kissed just like normal. In that moment she realized that she was always the one that had instigated sex. Wyatt never asked for sex, and since she looked forward to it with Blaise at the end of the night, she never felt like starting it. He didn't seem to notice the lack of their sex life, not caring one way or another.
She just couldn't understand why. Why was she more concerned with seeing Blaise? She wasn't even concerned with the sex. They could simply lay there and talk for hours and she would leave the room completely happy, happier then she was with Wyatt. And just minutes ago they had finished making love to each other, something her and Wyatt had never done. He was always quick, and never cared if he pleasured her or not.
Her jaw dropped and her eyes widened, no. It couldn't be. This couldn't be happening. It was wrong. This all was wrong.
“I have to go,” she nudged past him and rapidly pulled her clothes on.
“Wait, Xavia,” Blaise was barely able to snag her arm before she could leave the room.
She glanced back at him for a moment, unshed tears pooling in her eyes, “I'm sorry. I really have to go.”
He had never seen her cry, not once. Sure, she got angry or upset even, but she had never once cried. The tears startled him and his hand slipped limply from her arm, falling to his side. She took her chance and bolted. Her feet slamming hard against the stone floor as she flew through the corridors. Her surroundings blurred by the salty liquid, she was surprisingly able to find her way back to her common room. She raced through, not wanting to truly be seen.
She heard a startled cry of her name, before a single pair of footsteps followed her up into the dormitories. As soon as she stopped and sat down heavily on her bed, she was wrapped in the warm familiar arms of her best friend. The redhead was looking at her with such concern her tears finally fell, landing softly on the material of Ginny's shirt. She could hear whispering, but she couldn't make out the words. Ginny's small hand rubbed gentle circles on her back, trying to calm her down.
She cried until she couldn't any more, fear and questions, concerned and worries all piled into her mind, swamping her in guilt and sadness. When she calmed down, Ginny pulled the curtains closed and silenced them. She pinned her friend with a hard stare.
“Alright, what is wrong? You haven't cried this hard since the summer between second and third year,” Ginny said pointedly.
“It's Blaise,” she whispered, afraid to say the words out loud.
“What happened?”
“I can't believe I didn't see it before,” she said in a broken voice, “I should have seen it. I should have known. I shouldn't have done this. It's all so wrong.”
Ginny placed her hands on either side of her face and forced her to look up, “talk to me.”
“I'm in love with him,” her voice cracked as more hot tears began to drip onto Ginny's fingers.
The redhead stared at her, completely stunned, “it's okay, remember what you said? Everything will work out how it's suppose to in the end.”
“Ginny, if he finds out he will leave me. He will ditch me right on the spot. He might want a relationship, but he would never lower himself to date me! I mean, come on! I'm muggle-born and I'm a Gryffindor! For him to date someone like me openly it would ruin his reputation, something he and Draco have both been adamant about keeping, despite their parents not being around to enforce it!”
“Well, then we will just have to keep him from finding out,” Ginny suggested, “but won't it hurt worse loving him till he end of the school year and then him just leaving?”
“I... I don't know,” she whispered fearfully, “I just don't know.”
“This secret is going to be a little harder to keep,” the redhead sighed, “you just have to be careful with what you say and do. You can't do anything overly love-y, you just have to keep being how you were before you realized what you felt.”
“I think I can do that,” she nodded.
“Good,” Ginny smiled, “now, that we have that settled, let's do something to get our mind off of it all.”
